"As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their hearts desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."

The McWorse/Pain campaign owes me a television set. Why? Because, although I survived the debate, my TV suffered a fatal boot through the picture tube when the Automette was 'speaking'. I heard one too many cutseyism and, bam, there went the set. Lord, let November 4th come and End This Idiocy! At least it looks like, knock on wood, the American people are Finally waking up. At least there may be hope now.
Impeach Pelosi, Cheney and Bush and Save the Consitution!

Thanks for not disappointing me with your horseshit comments…always true to form…

Horseshit? Sarah Palin hogged all of the horseshit during the debate, right alongside her notes and glass of water.

Where's the horseshit, white boy?

Aren't you ashamed of the GOP standard - be able convince your democratic opponent that it's OK to go onto the 1st grade?

I almost forgot -- the GOP bar is set very low. They run for office not out of respect for the office, but to serve as trash compactors of the noble intention of government.

Only answering the questions you want is not debating–and that winking crap is too GDumbya.

“Well gosh darn, slap my knee, wink wink.”

I’ve had enough of ‘gee shucks’ politics-it’s time for someone intelligent to step in

I agree Lone Voice. Who says "gosh darn"? I mean is "Gosh Darn" not something you say instead of God Damn? She basically has to swear all the time but can't because of her religion so she uses these retarded replacement words. It makes her look even more stupid than the lack of substance in her other words.

Where to start?

A team of mavericks?

I cringed for one reason during night's debate, not because of anything Joe Biden was or was not doing, but because of how the average American would remember and react to the debate. Palin was low on facts (she could be fact-checked across the board, as TP has dutifully done) but style has seemed to make an immediate impression over substance. NBC's post-debate commentary has Ferraro and Swift immediately praising Palin --probably by reason of her stiff confidence and well-recited talking points. Will the average American independent voter do the research and overlook the bad acting?

By any standard of a U.S. Vice Presidential debate, Biden won. Palin referenced her notes too frequently, and she "held her own" by giving only the illusion to millions of Americans that she didn't belong in remedial grammar courses - not convincing of a readiness to serve as Vice President. A pretty low bar was set here because of ridiculously crappy previous interviews, and the pundits were initially very eager to call her a success.

The great news: Major polls did not come anywhere near favoring her performance. Her canned act will not likely survive the wave of scrutiny before next Tuesday's second presidential debate. The fact that she suddenly comes off as competent on some issues will draw the consensus that she was heavily coached, while Biden's knowledge was ingrained.

She also exhibited poor personal qualities -- openly announcing her intent to stray from the moderator, insulting the pundits and the MSM. Very unprofessional.

Ifill's moderation: Grade: D

Joe Biden: B+

Sarah Palin: D-

A little late in the game, but my two cents:

Palin attempted to turn the debate into a 90 minute long stump speech. She had no substantive answers, avoided questions, and generally bucked the format (I guess that would be the mavericky thing to do). In the beginning, her recitation of republican talking points seemed to demonstrate that she does have the ability to speak rather coherently and stay on message (after all, she IS a politician). As the debate wore on, her knee jerk repetition of talking points, catch phrases, and attempted sound bites, began to ring hollow, leaving an impression in my mind of some sort of programmed robot. On top of that, her grammar was atrocious, and her 'folksy' charm began to look too packaged to be genuine.

All she managed to do was 1) prove she isn't a complete buffoon, and 2) stroke her base (pun intended). This debate will have virtually no impact in terms of a boost for the McCain camp.

Biden, as expected, demonstrated a mastery of the issues, and refused to let Palin frame the debate. On virtually every jab Palin threw at Biden or Obama, he was right there counter punching, refuting her claims with facts. When Palin tried to criticize Obama's record in the Senate on key bills, Biden pointed out that McCain voted the same way on the same bills she was critiquing Obama for. He explained the core of important issues in laymen terms, which is key to a lot of undecided voters. He attacked McCain consistently, and in doing so, managed to relegate Palin to a mere commentator, not an opponent.

Biden won hands down to the people that matter. The republican base is pleased, but the republican base is not going to win this election for McCain.

I liken the race at this stage to a basketball game where the 1st half is close, at halftime the outcome is still undecided, and in the 2nd half the stronger team with more talent begins to pull away. Last night was the 10:00 mark of the 2nd half, and all Palin could do was score 1 point to Biden's 5. McCain's team can't afford to trade baskets at this point, much less cede any.

My prediction:
Obama/Biden = 84
McCain/Palin = 62.

We now know what Sarah Palin's Achilles heel is. She had her "potatoe" moment when she didn't know what an Achilles heel is. How did she ever get a college degree?

If McCain, when elected, would be the leader of his party, who EXACTLY would he be "MAVRICKING" [sic] against? His party should be "with him" like they have been with the psychopath boooosh, so his "MAVRICKING" ways would be what...MAVRICKING against US, the People? So, we would have a leader who is AGAINST US, the people.

McMAVRICK is a danger to AMERICA.

Frederick the Great said his horse was with him through seven campaigns, but knew no more about military strategy when he finished than before he began.

sectionop92 Says:

I know. I just presented it in a present/past sort of way to show her waffling on the subject.

Doesn’t waffling mean doing the opposite?

Well, she said she was for it then proved to be against it. You're making me sound Biden-esque here. :)

Robt Says:
Gov Palin states this in the VP debate, ” John McCain knows how to win wars, John has won wars and he has been there”.
Can anyone tell me what war or wars John McCain has won?

You know, the one with General McClellan and Abe and USG and William T. The War of Northern Agression.
