McCain: I never supported renegotiating Colorado River water-sharing agreement.

Yesterday during an interview with the Denver Post, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) claimed, “I will not and have never supported renegotiating the Colorado River Compact,” an agreement that “governs how seven Western states, including Colorado and Arizona, share the Colorado River“:

MCCAIN: And by the way, whatever misinterpretation there may have been, I will not and have never supported renegotiating the Colorado River Compact. … Never, Never would I support a renegotiation of the Colorado River Compact. Please. No. Got it?

But in August, McCain did exactly that. He told the Pueblo Chieftain that the compact “obviously, needs to be renegotiated“:

MCCAIN: I don’t think there’s any doubt the major, major issue is water and can be as important as oil. So the compact that is in effect, obviously, needs to be renegotiated over time amongst the interested parties.

Update At the Wonk Room, Majority Leader of the Colorado General Assembly Alice Madden recommends, "McCain should spend less time inside the DC beltway and more time with real Coloradans."

  3. MapleStreet says:

Is there a way to tie this around McCain’s neck.

In some western states, the water compacts are their lifeblood. No one dares tread on that territory.

I truly hope someone far more technically capable than I will compile a video of all of McCain’s clear flip flops on issue such as these.

Granted, such a venture could take days, but I’d love to see it!

Idiot. Dangerous idiot. Dangerous lying idiot.

    PEACE

Don’t worry Alice. After November 4th, Senator Johnny McCrappedhimself will have plenty of time on his hands. You may have a hard time pulling him away from the craps tables though.

  6. scytherius says:

OK. Debate is over. Time to go back and beat McCain to death, again, as a liar.

    Double-U Tee EFF???

While it is true that I am no biologist, I am fairly certain that crude oil is not a requirement for life, whereas water most definitely is.

Either McCain is suffering from demetia and can’t remember what he says from day to day or he thinks that the American public is stupid enought to believe his lies.

I’ve been saying this for a while now.

Any thoughts on which you think is worse? I honestly can’t decide.

Where has John McCain been all these years ? Has he learned to lie so often he can’t remember his lies or thinks no one else will remember? Poor palin in her comment that John never goes back on his words, she even shows how uninformed she is. Do we want Jeb Clampett to sit down with International leaders who have been educated at Oxford ?

He really needs to see a neurologist to get all the proper testing. He could very well be in the early stages of Alzheimer’s, Lewy Body Disease and or Parkinsons. The drooping eyelid is a tell-tale sign.

  25. wmhogg says:

Obviously, McCain should not use words like “always”, “never”, and “100%”. He mistakenly believes that we have no ability to fact-check him.

What is the saying, “Never say never”?

  26. DidHeJustSayThat says:

Here you go again Think! Conflating what the candidate said to appear to be the campaigns official position. That is entirely unfair. John McCain may be out there saying reckless things like Colorado needs to give its water to Arizona, but as the unofficial spokesperson, come on. ‘How long has be been at this? Like 30 years.’

Grampy is reminding me more and more of Stig O’Tracy:

Interviewer: I’ve been told Dinsdale Piranha nailed your head to the floor.

Stig: No. Never. He was a smashing bloke. He used to buy his mother flowers and that. He was like a brother to me.

Interviewer: But the police have film of Dinsdale actually nailing your head to the floor.

Stig: (pause) Oh yeah, he did that.

Whatever McWars says, he has already contradicted or will be contradicting in the future. The old man is yelling at the clouds and doesn’t have a clue about what he is talking.

  29. pithaughn says:

This is a huge issue in Colorado. We are very attuned to the raging thirst and desire for our upstream water rights from our lower basin partners,AZ NV and CA. The more this comment get’s spread in CO the more votes for Obama. Even the most die hard anti-abortionist will not vote for McGramps if there is even a hint that AZ would get preferential treatment with regards to water rights. Huuuge issue, especially in super conservative western CO where the KKK was the main political party well into the 1950’s.

Im wondering does john mccain own a pair of asbestos pants or does he like the warmth givin off by his pants being on fire
