Lynne Cheney: Right-wing blogs are ‘centrist.’

In an interview with Newsweek’s Tammy Haddad this weekend, Lynne Cheney, the vice president’s wife, revealed that she’s a blog reader. Cheney said that during the 2000 and 2004 campaign, she got “a great sort of sustenance” from reading National Review Online, Real Clear Politics and other conservative blogs. Cheney then claimed that these sites aren’t actually conservative, but “centrist“:

CHENEY: Well, I’m a conservative and I will say that during the 2000 and 2004 campaigns, it was a great sort of sustenance for me to be able to, you know, read National Review Online. To be able to read Real Clear Politics. To be able to read some of the blogs that I’ve enjoyed over the years, that have what seems to me, centrist [views]. But I know in the whole realm of the media, it’s considered right. So, for me, it’s just been, it’s been very good to have that community there. That I didn’t find and still don’t in most of the mainstream media.

Watch it:

Cheney doesn’t name the right-wing blogs that she considers “centrist.” But the staff of National Review Online would likely be surprised to see themselves described as such, considering they describe themselves as a web site for “conservative news.” In fact, when National Review endorsed Mitt Romney last year, the editors wrote that they were looking for “the most conservative viable candidate.”

  2. stewarjt Says:

When compared to her evil husband anything less than that is "centrist."

When you only use the right half of your brain, your "center" lies in the middle of the right side.

In CheneyWorld, anything not Dick is "left."

To be fair, being married to the Prince of Darkness and Lord of the Undead probably does skew one's perspective.

I hereby promise not to do anything with the softball that Zooey just lobbed up to the plate.....

Bush-style "Conservative" Republicans can be blamed for digging the lines in the sand so deep. They don't get to tell us where our ideologies lie.

The "us" v. "them" alignment game is transparent at this point. Anyone with a conscience is not with "them."

    It is all so silly.

  12. Leftside Annie Says:

Crap. That's like saying that a serial killer is "normal" - as long as he doesn't cannibalize his victims.

    *eyeroll*

She looks a bit like Jerry Jones (Dallas Cowboys owner) in drag!

Oh, we got both kinds -- country AND western!"

  15. Zimzone Says:

Genghis Khan would have been left of Cheney.

Ms Cheney, how does if feel to be married to the most dangerous man in America?

  16. regular_joe Says:

Right wing blogs are NOT centrist. They are, by definition, RIGHT WING.

Lynne Cheney, on the other hand, is certifiably insane and probably deserves to spend the rest of her life in prison -- just like her husband.

  17. ralph the wonder llama Says:

You know, Lynn... if you're standing on the far right, everything else lies off to your left.

I wonder if she thinks there are ANY right-wing sites?

  18. ralph the wonder llama Says:

OT, but since we're talking about Newsweek here,

check out what George Will thinks of making voting more accessible to Americans:

The second problem with early voting is that one of its supposed benefits is actually a subtraction from civic health. The benefit is that it makes voting easier—indeed, essentially effortless. But surely the quality of the electoral turnout declines when the quantity is increased by "convenience voting."

That's right. He thinks the "quality" of the electorate "declines" when "the quantity is increased". I guess this is how he explains to himself the phenomenon that heavier turnout favors Democrats -- lower "quality" voters.

Nice one, George. You keep peddling that "Democrats are elitist" crap. What good is intellectual integrity anyway? Can't buy a cup of coffee with it.

  19. impeachcheneythenbush Says:

Her statement is only a reflection of how radically to the Right she is.

  20. republicans hate facts Says:

To a Nazi like Lynne, they would seem centrist ;)

Poor old TARD is too DUMB to realize how EXTREMIST this shows her to be... I'm sure under that white hood and burning cross the republican blogs look downright liberal! ;)

  21. Doc Rock Says:

What an eccentric universe L.C. must live in to see the ultra right as centrist. Her world must be an ellipse with two focii, one on the left and one on the ,and she's so cock-eyed she only sees the one on the right!

  22. McWars Says:

Right-wing blogs are the center of terrorism.

  23. zuch Says:

Einstein's theory of relativity is vindicated once again. What you see depends on where you're coming from. If you're a nutzo RWer, then such as the NRO and RCP are "centrist" (particularly to hallucinatory wingnuts that think that their view is the majority view).

    Cheers,

  24. Zimzone Says:

Have you noticed 'The Big Dick' hasn't been in public view?

No, he's not hunting Terrorists in Pakistan or Moose from an airplane. He's quietly helping his friends make sure their money isn't a part of the meltdown.

Yes, Swiss banks are having a heyday with our money. In fact, if one was able to track accounts of Halliburton, KBR, Bechtel, et al, you'd probably find furious activity involving fund transfers from here to Switzerland by the 'no bid / no bullshit contractors.

'Wall St. is a great place to make money, but don't KEEP it there'.

I guess they still haven't figured out how to transfer their accounts to hell so they can be with their money forever.

Ah, yes. I heard about this last week. Not to worry - The Colbert Report has a good strategy for combatting this tragic cycle of increased voter turnout - voter abstenance education...

Has anyone ever seen Dick and scarah in the same place at the same time?

  30. IgnoranceIsNotBliss Says:

No friggin' way she's gonna make me believe that Coulter is a centerist.

  31. regular_joe Says:

With all due respect to ralph the wonder llama, "conservatives" like George Will long ago pawned their dwindling intellectual integrity in the service of King George, the lesser.

Of course, King George laid one huge egg after another eventually exposing these "conservative intellectuals" for what they are: a craven group of anti-democratic, authoritarian cult worshipers.

While Will can still wax eloquently about what a great preznit "Red Ink" Ronnie was, the bottom line is that only the kind of chuckleheads who believe what they read in Pravda, er, I mean Newsweak, believe him.

  32. lurker Says:

Yea and when Dick shot that guy in the face he was just doing

    RUCerious Says:

well... I don't know about "pinko" but she's definitely left-of-center from where Lynn Cheney sits.

  34. Bilbo Hussein Baggins Says:

If she finds the right wing blogs to be "centrist" she must be so far to the right that she has fallen off the cliff.

  35. 1984 Says:

Bull. Not even the democratic party is really leftist.

  36. jpopphan Says:

This is part and parcel of the Big Lie. The fringe, radical and extremist part of the Republican base has pushed the meme that they are "centrist" for a long time. The result is that they portray Democratic and liberal views as "far left". By making the far right "centrist", it makes it easier to confuse people.

People like Dick and Lynne Cheney are NOT centrist, do not represent the views of most Americans, and to assert otherwise is utter nonsense.

  37. FunMe Says:

    Ugh! Is SHE still around?

This is another woman who has done everything in her power to destroy DEMOCRACY in our country. I think she, like her SOB husband, are NAZIS REINCARNATED.

Closet lesbian Lynne went around colleges trying to censure free speech there. She too deserves to be sent to prison with the rest of the neoCON corrupt pieces of trash that they are.

  38. bonzo 1958 Says:

For sure, for sure they are.

And I'm puff the magic dragon.

Anyone who would marry - and stay married - to mr. evil, is a half-wit. What she thinks should therefore be regarded as meanderings by a person with a half-functioning brain.

  40. Oval12345678 aka James K. Sayre Says:

Wrong again, Lady Cheney. Right-wing blogs are by and large fascist, not so-called "centrist."

  41. republicanSScareme Says:

Hey, Lynn, what's it like being married to the biggest thug in American history? Just curious.

  42. sectionop92 Says:

Lynne can never walk away from the Vice Emperor...she knows too much and no place on Earth can be considered safe as long as he or his apprentices live.

She has to keep up the appearance of the loving, loyal wife or she'll get the force lightning.

Could they be one in the same?

  44. sectionop92 Says:

Maybe Jerry Jones has a twin sister he does not know of. That they had to be separated at birth or the world would suffer a cruel fate.

Jerry does have traits that some could describe as "Anti-Christ-ian".

  45. lthuedk Says:

Her husband violated the trust of the country and committed treason. Wipe that phucking smile off that two-bit AEI face.

  46. squidbilly Says:

Maybe Lynn is holed up with her hubcap in the bunker (hell itself???) and thinks so because she doesn't have a clue as to what is going on in the world.

  47. chascates Says:

To the Cheneys Joe McCarthy was a centrist and Barry Goldwater a leftist.
