After repeatedly rejecting MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow’s invitations to appear on her show, the campaign for Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) finally sent aide Nancy Pfotenhauer to appear as a guest on Friday night. Maddow opened by saying she “could not be happier” to welcome Pfotenhauer:
Since this show started, we have been talking a lot about what’s been going wrong with he McCain campaign and what they or he the candidate could do about it. But we have yet to have the benefit of hearing directly from anyone from the McCain campaign to share with us their view of the state of the race. That all changed tonight, and I could not be happier about it.
Maddow asked Pfotenhauer about Friday’s Washington Post article detailing McCain’s Senate chief of staff’s close and lucrative ties to Freddie Mac — coupled with McCain’s campaign manager Rick Davis, who earned millions lobbying for Fannie and Freddie. Pfotenhauer brushed off the question, claiming “everybody has plenty of associations to point to.” Watch it:
I think that Rachel went a little soft on her. But, I guess she couldn't really go for the jugular and expect any conservative to come on her show again. Rachel runs rings around her conservative guests including Pat Buchanan.
October 6th, 2008 at 3:32 pmno, what's emblematic of the problem is grampy mclame raped the american people for billions during the s&l meltdown and now, twenty years later, him and his cronies are once again trying to rape the american people. for TRILLIONS this time
October 6th, 2008 at 3:36 pmWhere's Carly?
October 6th, 2008 at 3:37 pmWell, it's started folks. An unabashed racist rant by Bobby May, the McCain campaign chair in Buchanan County, Virginia
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/10/6/121316/310/814/621608
It is really ugly, so be prepared.
October 6th, 2008 at 3:37 pmSaw it. Rachel ate Nancy Faken-steiner's lunch. And breakfast and dinner too.
My guess is that they won't be sending someone from the McIdiot campaign to again have a discussion or debate with Rachel anytime soon; they can't stand being intellectually overwhelmed by a woman who happens to know a thing or two about facts and reality rather than about six-packs and snowmobiles.
October 6th, 2008 at 3:40 pmPlease do not let it be Tucker Bounds. All he can do is talk about Obama. Rachel needs a guest who can put a good face on McCain - yeah, I know, don't say it.
Tucker is even more vacuous than Palin.
October 6th, 2008 at 3:42 pmBHB @ #4: don't worry -- us sane Virginians will take care of nutjob racists like Bobby May. Anyway, Buchanan County is nothing more than cows, rednecks, and two relatively progressive Universities (VA Tech and Radford). I'll be very interested to see what the VA Tech Hokies, still reeling from the campus massacre 18 months ago, have to say about Bobby May's views on the 2nd amendment...
October 6th, 2008 at 3:45 pmPfotenhauer brushed off the question, claiming “everybody has plenty of associations to point to.” Watch it:
The issue is trivial unless Dr. Ayers is the subject.

Where’s Carly?
Busy selling off all those HP stock options she got from her Golden Parachute before the market bottoms altogether
October 6th, 2008 at 3:47 pmWhat's the difference between Failin' Palin and Nancy Pfotenhauer? Rimless glasses.
October 6th, 2008 at 3:47 pm“everybody has plenty of associations to point to.”
Okay, but is Ayers running Obama's campaign?
I saw this last night and ended up w/ the same exact smile that Rachel had at the very end. Sure, she could have been "tougher", but, as someone else already pointed out, I think she wants them to come back; however, she did not relent at the points where most interviewers give up.
Good job, Rachel!
October 6th, 2008 at 3:50 pmI saw the show Friday evening and had to mute it. Carly was on CSPAN 2 this afternoon, while Lehman's CEO was grilled. Greed played on two of the three CSPAN's.
Dogfather, Montgomery and Radford Counties house Va Tech and Radford. Buchanan County is Grundy, deep coal mining territory.
October 6th, 2008 at 3:52 pmAs is typical for Repugs, Nancy Pfotenhauer filibustered the interview. Maddow was courteous and let her go for a while, but when she tried to ask questions or state the facts, Nancy spoke right over her.
October 6th, 2008 at 3:56 pmThat's one of the most obnoxious characteristics of interviews with repugnican spokespeople -- they are so over the top and hard to take. It's hard to think anything kindly of them, much less listen to them, or take them seriously on the issues.
well, marie, as we all know, progressives have class. if someone tried to pull that happy horseshit on faux, they'd cut the microphone.
October 6th, 2008 at 3:58 pmThis interview was a joke. Pfotenhauer has NOTHING to say expect what Rove's folks tell her after her KoolAide injection.
What a HACK!!
October 6th, 2008 at 3:59 pmThe rant by Bobby Lee May of Grundy, VA is an attempt to change the topic from the ever tanking economy.
Maria Bartiromo just said, "Lack of trust, panic and fear are driving this market."
Ignore Bobby May, ask McCain what he'll do about the economy.

Wasn't it at Virginia Tech where the Republicans started sending notices to college students lying to them by telling them if they vote at their college address, their parents couldn't claim them on their income tax? I hope the school got that lie put down and cleared up.
October 6th, 2008 at 4:04 pmIt will probably be the last time too considering that Rachel was armed with the facts and all Nancy Pfotenhauer had were talking points.
When Rachel was talking up having a spokes person from the McCain campaign on all I kept thinking was, "Please please don't let it be Pfotenhauer".
October 6th, 2008 at 4:06 pmRachel Maddow had a live audience they would be egging and rotten fruit tossing this lying POS from the McCancerGonnaDie&PutPalinInTheWhiteHouse campaign.
October 6th, 2008 at 4:09 pmstateofthedivision: thanks; was reading my VA map wrong! I guess that shows my NoVA bias -- you know, up here in "communist country" as McMoron's brother told a gathering in Loudoun County over the weekend...

Ironic, ain't it Bilbo, considering that the repukies are now trying to do the exact opposite at Liberty "University"? At this "college" founded by Jerry Fallwell, they're running voter registration drives for the students so they can register in Virginia and try to stem off the impending blue wave that's sweeping our Commonwealth...
Prediction: those 10,000 brainwashed kids at Liberty won't be able to overcome the over 300,000 newly registered democrats throughout Virginia...
October 6th, 2008 at 4:12 pmYou're right stateofthe division: keep hammering away on the economy and McCain has no chance of winning the election.
October 6th, 2008 at 4:12 pmRachel was too soft. She should have asked about Frau Pfotenhauer's hubby and his ties to Freddy and Fanny.
October 6th, 2008 at 4:14 pmBoy, they sure dont get treated like the lying scum they are on Faux News. i doubt that they will be back. much safer with Sean or O'lielly kissing their bad place during the interview.

This is, of course, all they have. Their own candidate doesn't have much in the way of selling points, and they don't have any real arrows left in the quiver, so they are reduced to hurling mud and dirt clods.
I happened to see Ann Coulter's most recent column and it's obvious she has no real ammunition either -- she's reduced to silliness about Biden's misspeaks.
However, McCain has made a big thing about how he's not going to condone garbage such as has come from Bobby May. Will he act on that? Will Bobby May be fired (quickly and publicly) from ANY entity bearing McCain's name?
It's pretty obvious what Bobby May is. What I'm waiting to see is a demonstration of what McCain really is. If there is no firing (or at least repudiation), I'll know. We all will.

I was listening to this story on NPR this morning on my way to work, and they gave a quote from one of the Liberty students. She was saying that she was from North Carolina, but she was switching her registration to Virginia because she was convinced NC would vote red anyway and she felt her "vote would do more" in Virginia.
Apparently she hasn't seen the latest polls. Obama is leading here in NC.
October 6th, 2008 at 4:23 pmthe whole interview was great...
October 6th, 2008 at 4:24 pmbest of all - rachel got in the last word, shut her down...
make sure you catch that part.

_______
Be sure to tell as many people as you can to vote absentee. If you work in DC or outside your county, you can vote by absentee ballot in Virginia.
October 6th, 2008 at 4:35 pmI heard that NPR story too, MissHusseinMolly. The quote that made my blood boil was when they actually found an Obama supporter at that "college" who said that when some of his classmates found out he was supporting Obama, they asked him "aren't you a Christian"?
Like there's some connection (or needs to be) between the two...
October 6th, 2008 at 4:37 pm"McMoron’s brother told a gathering in Loudoun County over the weekend…"
That must have been in western Loudoun...
October 6th, 2008 at 5:00 pmFO ClusterTim, your pimping is getting old.
October 6th, 2008 at 5:06 pmDear Nancy, yes, some people's ties to banks and lobbyists go back into ancient history even as far as theKeating five and farther!
October 6th, 2008 at 5:10 pmMs. Pfotenauer is a spokesperson for the Independent Womens Forum on loan to the McCain Campaign.
Some Background...
The Independent Women’s Forum (IWF), originally an ad hoc organization called Women for Clarence Thomas, was founded in 1991. Barbara Ledeen, wife of Michael Ledeen, was its first executive director. The IWF is the neoconservative counterweight to the progressive National Organization for Women (NOW). IWF is fighting the culture war against the inroads of the women’s liberation movement by challenging efforts to establish women’s equity in sports and by opposing the Violence Against Women Act and the Women’s Educational Equity Act. Its mission statement states that the IWF “is dedicated to advancing the spirit of enterprise and self-reliance among women, and supporting the principles of political freedom, economic liberty, and personal responsibility.”
October 6th, 2008 at 5:12 pmChris Matthews just talked about how Repugs are trying to connect the dots to make Barack dangerous:
1. Palin talks about ties to Ayers, domestic terrorist
October 6th, 2008 at 5:13 pm2. Had Florida Sheriff call him "Barack Hussein Obama" from stump podium
3. Repugs are scrubbing Democratic donor lists looking for an Arab name.
Isnt there an olsd sayin if you dont have nothin you dont have nothin ta lose that should be pressed at every turn as far as booby may is concerned ( yeah I spelled it right) the mccain campaine is counting on the watchers of jerry springer and hee haw thats there base isnt it?
October 6th, 2008 at 6:40 pmI've been away for a while, and I just noticed we have a lot of new Husseins here - can I play?
October 6th, 2008 at 9:46 pmSomeone needs to tell Nancy that wearing she was wearing bought from the local auto parts store(seat covers),went out of style in the late 50's!
