Noonan’s message to Palin: ‘Our country is facing huge challenges. Suck it up and be serious.’

Today on The Laura Ingraham Show, Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan criticized Gov. Sarah Palin’s (R-AK) lack of gravity while the nation is experiencing a major financial crisis:

palinshurg.jpg INGRAHAM: She’s saying to people out there who don’t feel like they’re connected to this political culture, “I’m hearing you, I know how you live, I know what your values are, I’m hearing you.” I think that’s what she trying to say. [...]

NOONAN: Oh, I think they both ought to get more serious. Our country is facing huge challenges. Suck it up and be serious. And don’t be doing this cute colloquial stuff. It doesn’t sit right with me. And it doesn’t seem fitting. … She’s a spirited person, I get all that, but I would like her to be more serious.

Listen here:

Noonan’s comments represent larger conservative disenchantment with Palin. Yesterday, David Brooks said that she should “read a few more books,” and Kathleen Parker admitted that conservatives “gave her a pass up front.”

Noonan be knockin’, but there’s nobody home…

  2. whirlaway says:

Isn’t this the same Noonan who was praising Palin for her “brilliant” debate performance?!

What’s happened to Noonan now? Did she get sober over the weekend or what?!

  3. RWeSafer says:

There, not goin’ to happen, there also.

(I agree Noonan is going schizo).

  4. ralph the wonder llama says:

Yeah, yeah, she should be serious… but isn’t she so cute? And folksy?

“Noonan’s message to Palin: ‘Our country is facing huge challenges. Suck it up and be serious.’”

    – - Palin can’t. It’s not part of the beauty pageant process. Betty Boop for VP.

  6. stateofthedivision says:

Noonan just echoed the point on Chris Matthew’s Hardball. Chris broke down the Repug move to paint Obama as a risky terror linked candidate, despite two years of public vetting.

  7. sectionop92 says:

Palin can’t be serious…that goes against the hockey mom/joe sixpack code of conduct. Plus it hurts a bimbo’s brain to ponder and strain to the thought of seriousness.

  8. gummitch says:

I did a google on “noonan palin debate” and she did, in fact, claim that Palin had “killed”. The knotheads over at freerepublic fell all over themselves panting about Palin and dumping on Peggy Noonan and all her liberal elitist friends. They must be getting ready to string her up right about now.

I don’t know what Peggy Noonan, former speechwriter to their god, Ronnie, did to p!ss off the wingnuts. Must have been something really awful, like suggest that GWB was a bit thick.

  9. gummitch says:

Silly me. It was Peggy Noonan who called the Palin choice “bullsh!t” on tape. No wonder the wingers hate her.

  10. Bob says:

It’s as if after six+ years of repubs falsly accusing ds of being weak, they suddenly decide that National Security is not important and cutesy gov’t outsider is the way to go.

  11. pete says:

Bible Spice just acts cute to cover her terror of the “scary black man”. She’s “fearful” of anyone “palling around” with terrorists. And her handlers won’t let the press talk to the crowds at her events. I seriously doubt we will see any pretense of substance from her.

  12. lurker says:

Gee I wonder if she has stocks?

  13. sectionop92 says:

The only Republicans who don’t want Palin to be serious are the GOP’ers who have Viagra prescriptions and use Sarah’s “cuteness” as a source of added stimulus. It’s hard to buy porn when they think it’ll always make baby Jesus cry.

  14. jb says:

B b b but, she can gut a moose with her stiletto high heels on.

The GOP is reduced to smears and a freak show.

  15. sectionop92 says:

    lurker Says:

Gee I wonder if she has stocks?

Many male Republicans want to make her “stalk”-ings drop.

  16. Zooey says:

BTW, thanks for not using the “winky picture,” TP. :-)

  17. dae says:

Palin actually used the racist term “man-child” to describe Obama, This hearkens back to the days of public lynchings and KKK terror

  18. celtic cynic says:

Palin should be “sucking it up”????

Maybe that’s the problem – you know, like with lusty John and the witchdoctor and several others.

  19. joe cantwell says:

    sarah, stop acting

    like a boob with boobs.

  20. Uncle Ho says:

Palin is way in over her head, and many ‘conservatives’ know it. However, she should be able to get a job as a ‘fluffer’ in pornoland. Smarts are not required there.

  21. kasinca says:

Palin won’t allow the media to vet her or clear her name in the Troopergate investigation but she is out throwing dirt with issues vetted in the Democratic Primary. The economy is tanking and the McSame campaign has nothing to offer. It is time to shoot out the lights and call the law.

  22. sectionop92 says:

    dae Says:

Palin actually used the racist term “man-child” to describe Obama, This hearkens back to the days of public lynchings and KKK terror

That’s because she’s an outsider and a maverick. You know, the same token b.s. that McCain uses to get away with his incredible poor taste in jokes and anecdotes. Then again, Sarah hasn’t taken to the higher aspects of politics…so the muckraking might be her only hope now that the ballots are about to be all finalized, printed and all.

  23. tarazan says:

How can McCain think that ‘Country First’ slogan is a sellable one when chose Sarah Palin as his VP running mate?

  24. katy says:

so, the “pitbull” joke was scripted, sounds like…
    she’s just doing her job.

randi was reading part of a matt tiabi piece about her:

    Mad Dog Palin

The scariest thing about John McCain’s running mate isn’t how unqualified she is – it’s what her candidacy says about America

    http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/23318320/mad_dog_palin/print

“what her candidacy says about America”

that hurts me the most… my family is included…

  25. barracks9 says:

    Uncle Ho Says @ 22:

Palin is way in over her head, and many ‘conservatives’ know it.

Or as David Letterman so nicely put it, Gov. Palin is in over her hair.

  26. sectionop92 says:

    tarazan Says:

How can McCain think that ‘Country First’ slogan is a sellable one when chose Sarah Palin as his VP running mate?

Because McCain is an idiot who hasn’t had a good thought since sometime in 2000.

  27. paleolib says:

The snowbilly seems to have found her “serious” niche: making seriously racist and/or untrue comments about Obama (or having the person introducing her in Florida do so).

  28. tokin librul says:

peggy Nooner…ummm Noonan, complaining that somebody ELSE is not ’serious’? What the phoque? Her idolatry of the Gipper utterly disqualifies her from any consideration as a “public intellectual” or anyone worth paying attention to…I’m betting he was boffing her, or she was blowing him. Anyway, she’s still narcotized by the taste of Raygun-Kum…

  29. judyinnm says:

Sarah Palin is proudly running for vice president as “joe sixpack”, with a guy whose (wife’s) fortune is derived from Anheuser Busch, makers of Budweiser beer – now, really, how serious can they expected to be?

  30. gummitch says:

    katy Says:

    Mad Dog Palin

Ouch. Great piece, dripping with cynicism. I could quote from it, but it hangs together too well and should be read in its entirety.

  31. pete says:

How can McCain think that ‘Country First’ slogan is a sellable one when chose Sarah Palin as his VP running mate?

He drops the o,r and y.

  32. Bozo The Neoclown says:

laura, laura, laura, how hard it must be to defend someone who would call you a filthy dyke once you’ve left the room and deny you the rights guaranteed you in the constitution.

  33. MCMetal says:

I’m serious ; Palin is a fu(king clown and Noonan is not much different than she ………..

  34. Oval12345678 aka James K. Sayre says:

Palin’s puttin’ on her lipstick… She must be gettin’ ready to be doin’ some more slimin’, lyin’ and smearin’…

  35. MrSquirrel says:

On the flip side, when required, Peggy Noonan will say whatever someone pays her to say.

    A thousand point of bullsh*t.

  36. Another Joe says:

Anyone (dem, repug, indie, whatever) that thinks palin was added to add any intellect, integrity, or ideas to this ticket just isn’t payin’ attention.

Noonan – this is what the criminal cabal you helped usher in is all about.

  37. katy says:

from a link at the end of the tiabi piece – another must read:

    The Truth About Sarah Palin
Sarah Palin’s credentials as a “reformer” are nothing but spin. She has sided with Big Oil, lobbied to increase pork spending and abused her public power to carry out personal vendettas. Here’s a guide to separating myth from fact.

    http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/23140513/the_truth_about_sarah_palin

#8 is proof that this snowbilly (love it) was a complete make-over.

  38. Doc Rock says:

The Republican have fiddled while the economy has burned. The Democrats have been disinterested spectators.

  39. vat694848 says:

Imagine, one loon (Noonan), giving advice too another (Palin). This could be a great segment on SNL?

  40. JaneaneTheAcerbicGoblin says:

    That’s “minus 200 euros”…

  41. JaneaneTheAcerbicGoblin says:

I thought being stupid was a good thing, Peggy? It’s hilarious to see conservatives all of a sudden find out reading is GOOD. I thought books were for ‘dem elitists?

7 years ago, these were the same people screaming on how Bush’s lack of curiosity was good for him.

I guess Peggy looked at her 401K and found it’s down to 40 cents (which is -200 euros now).

That’s why they’re turning. It’s not that they are having ephiphanies. Bush and company is screwing with their money, and they don’t like it.

  42. wiley says:

“Suck it up” was a strange choice of words. Reminds me of the Jenna Jameson line in “Zombie Strippers”.

  43. GL2814 says:

I could make a joke about Palin “sucking it up”, but I’ll resist the temptation!

  44. DaTruth says:

She must think she’s Britney Spears running for vice-president. How old is this Palin chick? I wonder.
