Despite the bailout package, credit shrinkage is spreading to the stock exchanges. They're worried about the other party making good on the trade.

None of the root causes of the financial mess have changed.

The WSJ reported on the government's use of satellite surveillance for domestic purposes.
"An American Carol" is wowing the critics:

David Zucker, who delights in slaughtering sacred cinematic cows, has been involved in some memorable comic spoofs.

"An American Carol" is not one of them. Not even close.

The veteran filmmaker partially responsible (along with brother Jerry Zucker and Jim Abrahams) for "Airplane!" (1980), the greatest silly lampoon of all time, rolls out an absolute, sad-to-experience dud.

Word-of-mouth may get a round a bit on this stinker. But not to the benefit of Voight, Zucker, et al....

Rotten Tomatoes gives it a big splat (although there seems to be some Freeping by the wingers in the reader ratings tab). Director David Zucker seems to have lost his marbles post-9/11 (and his sense of humour in the process, but given the shallowness, not too surprising that dried up....)

Cheers,

We are being robbed America, right in front of our eyes and we watch in silence. Our new Great Depression will be like nothing we have ever seen, brought to us by the Bu$hCo criminal cabal. They are stealing the silver while walking out the door with smiles on their faces. Take care --- and be good to each other.

>>>>>>>So, are all these banks in Europe and elsewhere having problems today because they hitched their financial wagon to our star?

I'm an expatriate, living in the Lao P.D.R. They started dumping dollars here about 1 1/2 years ago, later than I myself dumped all of mine, except a couple I held on to for souvenirs. The Lao kip is going up, up, up. When I first arrived here about a month after the 2004 election, the exchange rate was about 10,800 to 1, and now it's 8,600 to 1.
The Thai baht has been about staying even with the dollar.
A student of mine, from S. Korea, told me that the dollar is going up, in South Korea. He gets his pay in dollars, here, and he says he kind of wishes he was getting paid in dollars in S. Korea, instead.

Over the weekend, both Bill Maher’s film “Religulous” and David Zucker’s right-wing “An American Carol” opened up at the box office. Although “An American Carol” was playing on three times as many screens as “Religulous,” three times as many people went to see Maher’s film, and box office receipts were roughly the same.

Which only goes to show that “rightwing humor” is virtually an oxymoron…

Freedom Rebel Says:

EPA: Rocket Fuel Contaminant Safe for Nation’s Drinking Water

I have to tell ya, Freb, there’s an out-of-control Department of Defense that needs to be reigned in. There’s massive waste, human & environmental abuse, too many contractors, and a budget far out of proportion with the other 14 executive departments. There’s a difference between putting on a strong defense and maintaining efficiency and accountability.

The rest of the government is forced to make do with less. Why shouldn’t DoD do the same?

Good morning and have a great day.

Good Morning McWars :) Sad to say but true about the DOD. Obama is going to have his work cut out for him when it comes to all the departments that need an overhaul.. Bush has put his stamp on everything and none of it is good..

You have a good day also!!

Now that Sarahcudda's halo effect is wearing thin, it'll be good to see McKeating flounder, randomize & forget his point in tomorrow night's debate.

Obama needs to nail this one hard. Here in MN, Obama is showing as high as a 15 point lead. This is a huge swing from the numbers shortly after the RNC Convention in early Sept.

Obama needs to clarify details about McKeating's health plan, some of which is addressed by posters above on this thread.

When McKeating claims credit for the Wall St fiasco, Obama needs to portray the fact McKeating sat silent in the 'summit meeting' for over 40 minutes, while claiming he suspended his campaign while at least 5 of his staff were doing interviews.

John Sidney McCain III: Ready to lie on day one

Obama needs to nail this one hard. Here in MN, Obama is showing as high as a 15 point lead. This is a huge swing from the numbers shortly after the RNC Convention in early Sept.

Obama needs to clarify details about McKeating’s health plan, some of which is addressed by posters above on this thread.

When McKeating claims credit for the Wall St fiasco, Obama needs to portray the fact McKeating sat silent in the ’summit meeting’ for over 40 minutes, while claiming he suspended his campaign while at least 5 of his staff were doing interviews.

Katy,
I just checked in to that video at MSNBC.com and Cramer is not his usual bombastic self -- he is very serious and very worried.
The market is down another 300 points now.

Paul Krugman did a nice job in his column today discussing the McCain "health plan." It is, in fact, the exact opposite of what we need. Personally. I don't think Obama's plan goes far enough to create Universal Health Care (I'm in favor of nationalized health care as in Finland, Sweden, etc.) But it is a positive step in protecting Americans access to medical care. McCain's, on the other hand, will bring further woes.

Doc Rock Says:
If you have insurance, doctors accept pay for their bills at steep discounts, but if you have no insurance, you are saddled with the full bill! Now what genius worked that system out? Must have been Hood Robbin’ riding to the rescue of the well-heeled!

I discovered that scam when I was without health insurance for a short while. I take three prescriptions on a regular basis. Under my health plan I pay $27.00 for all three. Since my plan has a copay of $20.00 for prescriptions and each of my prescriptions is under that amount, that means I am paying what they cost the pharmacy. But, when I had no health insurance those three prescriptions cost me $67.00. It is ridiculous that they charge the people who can least afford it more for pharmaceuticals and doctor's visits.

missmolly..There is still voter caging, Diebold mischief, and other election-stealing dirty tricks to worry about. That — and the Rove smear machine will be working overtime for the next four weeks.

This worries me greatly because according to Brad Friedman (bradblog.com) the Democrats are doing pretty much nothing to prevent this from happening.

I like the idea of some independent organization offering a large reward to anyone who turns in evidence of voting machine mischief. The caging is already a done deal and there isn't much we can do about it now since most states have closed voter registration. I'm betting there are right wing operatives who would be happy to make some money for reporting on the people who will be programming the voting machines to flip elections. I would be happy to contribute to a fund for rewards.

McCain is shaping up to wear the mantle of Hood Robbin'--robbing the poor to give to the middle class and rich. Plundering Medicare and Medicaid to fund his health care plan is genius unless you're sick and can't afford health care! By the way, ever pay attention to your medical bills? If you have insurance, doctors accept pay for their bills at steep discounts, but if you have no insurance, you are saddled with the full bill! Now what genius worked that system out? Must have been Hood Robbin' riding to the rescue of the well-heeled!
