Americans’ satisfaction drops to all-time low of 9 percent.

A new Gallup poll finds that just nine percent of the American public are “satisfied with the way things are going in the United States — the lowest such reading in Gallup Poll history. … The previous low point for Gallup’s measure of satisfaction had been 12%, recorded back in 1979, in the midst of rising prices and gas shortages when Jimmy Carter was president.”

Sixty-nine percent of Americans named the economy as the top issue affecting their outlook, far ahead of the second most important issue — the war in Iraq (11 percent).

But a 72-year-old white guy, who embraces the same policies as the President who got us to this point, is the one to change things.

    Riiiiiiiight.

  3. Shayne Says:

We need to round up that 9% and at the very least take away their voting privileges.

  4. Zooey Says:

The satisfied 9%: The top 1% and all their friends.

  5. paleolib Says:

Yup, those people really want to hear about Bill Ayers for the next four weeks. Good luck changing the discussion to something other than the economy Johnny.

  6. Taguba Says:

But more GOP leadershio is exactly what this country needs.

    DUH !!!

I think Obama should start the debate with a DEMAND that McCain apologize for the smears and to the American people for what he and his party have done to our country. DEMAND IT !!!

  7. Taguba Says:

Can the GOP say with a straight face that Bush is better than carter?? Just hink if we listened to Carter we would already be off foriegn oil. We all know the JOKE is the GOP and the punch line is that they are now the party of the Whigs. See you in the history books republican party. I wonder if Rove will still be called the architect ?? the architect of the demise of the GOP.

  8. Zimzone Says:

Meanwhile, back at the Mansion, Johnny McBush is talking about how Obama didn't respect or support 'The Surge'.

Senator, I believe that talking point has not only been hammered to death, it's also offensive. When real Americans are unsure where their next meal is coming from, how dare you pretend that an illegal invasion stratergery is somehow more relevant than our own citizen's welfare.

McKeating, you're not going to win the debate, the race or the White House. Go live in one of Cindy's 9 homes...if you have 'permission'.

  9. tom Says:

This absolutely defines the field on which the presidential race will be fought for the next four weeks. So what are Unstable/Unable offering? They are sitting out-of-bounds in the stands trying to work the refs and insulting the opposing team.

I don't know about you but that sure doesn't look like a winning strategy to me. McNumbNuts will have to come back down on the field this evening in the "townhall meeting" -- I hope Tom Brokaw will throw the yellow flag every time the assclown lies, conflates and runs out-of-bounds.

And just in time for tonight's debate! McGeritol will try to tie Ayres & ACORN together as 'radical elements' supporting Obama.

    Same Shit, Different Pile

Check out the chart and tell me what do the years 1992 and 2008 have in common?

We're finally at the one thing that could've turned the campaign positive, Town Hall meetings.

Count on that being another false promise. Here are just a few:

    1. Bush "I'll fire the leaker"
    2. Appointment of Palin will bring down gas prices overnight
    3. Can safely drill and extract oil, Ike caused spills of over 500,000 gallons, Katrina spilled 20 times that amount.

  16. misshusseinmolly Says:

    Hmmm...let's look at the scorecard:

91% of Americans aren't satisfied with the way things are going.

69% of Americans cite the economy as the biggest factor affecting their outlook.

75% of Americans don't approve of Bush's performance as President.

Somehow, I doubt Americans are going to care about Ayers, 9/11 boogeymen, scary black preachers, flag pins, or gay marriage. I suspect they are going to care more about the price of gas, the price of health care, whether they can afford to stay in their home, whether they will qualify for a loan, whether they get laid off from their jobs or not, and whether their loved ones will make it home safely from fighting overseas.

Both candidates would do well to address the issues Americans care about. Obama is doing that.

You're damn right he will...Once he gets in, the satisfaction rate will drop to under 5%...

Mary, I'll take a wild stab at your challenge...could it possibly have anything to do with the end of a Bush term?

  19. mary Says:

Zimzone - ding, ding, ding! Now Bush Jr. can say that he was better than his father at something - putting the country into the crapper!

  20. krazeeinjun Says:

Must be the same 9% who are showing up at Palin and McCain gatherings screaming that Obama is a terrorist and and needs to be killed.

    Just saying ...

And the start of a Dem government.

  23. RUCerious Says:

Zooey, those really aren't their friends, just hangers on wannabe's the 1% uses to wash their cars and lick their boots.

  24. Wayne Says:

Just who are the 9% that think things are just peachy?
They are the the ones that benefitted from the Bush/Republican years of fascism. They are the ones laughing at the rest of us as they dine in one of their 7 mansions.

  25. dfletcher Says:

It's looking like the DOW is going to close below 10,000 today. I'm no expert, but AFAIK this hasn't happened since 2003. Back then it was climbing after a big drop in 02.

Interesting timing. Debates will surely center around it.

  26. RUCerious Says:

  33. Shayne Says:

The 9% are the people shoving $700 billion plus into their pockets and their kids who will inherit our money.

  34. drago Says:

McCain a "Reformer"? Get real - KEATING FIVE, heard of it?

    And in case you forgot...

    Bush = REPUBLICAN
    McCain = REPUBLICAN

    McCain voted 90% WITH Bush

Why is that so hard for so many Republicans to understand? Are they stupid or ignorant - or both? sheesh.

  35. Shayne Says:

The question is what are we going to do if they steal this election too?

  36. MapleStreet Says:

I wonder how being the 9% correlates with household income ?

  37. shoeless Says:

In other news, the number of Americans who possess 95% of all the wealth in the country also dropped to an all time low of 9%.

  38. Alejandro Says:

Only 9% said on a poll that they are satisfied?
That will certainly lead to mass dissatisfaction.
    I hope they're satisfied.

  39. jarob Says:

Note the Preamble to the Constitution, which all Americans are
supposed to agree with if they live within its sovereignty:

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union,

    (1) establish Justice,
    (2) insure domestic Tranquility,
    (3) provide for the common defence,
    (4) promote the general Welfare,
    (5) and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves
    (6) AND our Posterity,

do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Question: Because of the acts of some 70 members of congress, subprime mortgages were given to 7 million households that couldn’t afford them, costing the other 97 million households $1.8 trillion dollars all together or about $17,000 each. If a congressman, no matter what his constituency, carries out acts that cover up or aid a process that is an ‘irreparable act of harm to the nation’, such as those that allowed Fannie May to sell much for nothing, has he violated any of the six covenants of the Preamble to the point that he has committed treason?
