Boehner mocks how Barney Frank talks.

Boehner mocks how Barney Frank talks.

Speaking to the Georgia GOP’s Victory Dinner 2008 last night, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) “blamed Democrats for the nation’s financial woes.” Boehner took “particular aim” at Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA), going so far as to mock Frank’s slight speech impediment:

Boehner took particular aim at U.S. Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.), who controls a powerful House committee that deals with banking and housing and who has a slight speech impediment. My AJC colleague Jim Tharpe was there to record the action.

“You know where he’s from. He’s from Massachusetts, although he can’t say the word ‘Massachusetts,’” Boehner said.

The Crypt reports that Boehner spokesman Michael Steel downplayed the insult, saying that “Boehner and Frank have known each other a long time, and it was an off-the-cuff joke.” A spokesman for Frank did not return Politico’s call for comment.

Speech impediments are so exotic and ostentatious.

  2. RUCerious says:

This, from Boner, the crybaby? Republicans are such rude dufi.

  3. RUCerious says:

Georgia GOP’s Victory Dinner 2008??? WTF???
    Did they serve barbequed crow?

  4. RUCerious says:

Here’s a hopin that all his constituents who are afflicted with speech impediments are listening real closely to this dufus.

  5. Zooey says:

That’s rich — Boner mocking ANYONE for ANYTHING from his glass house full of tears.

  6. spencers mom says:

I’d rather listen to Frank speak than Boner cry.

But I’m just a librul, ‘mercan hatin’ commie elitist, right?

    PEACE

  7. paleolib says:

Significantly, Congressman Frank did not respond by calling Congressman Boehner “a pathetic little p*ssy who cries like a little girl at the drop of a hat” even though even Boehner’s Republican colleagues privately concede that to be the case.

  8. ralph the wonder llama says:

    Stay classy, Boner!

  9. jpopphan says:

Anyone whose surname can be pronounced “boner” should be very careful of throwing stones at others. Taking a cheap shot at how Rep. Frank speaks is childish and does nothing to bolster his false argument that Democrats are to blame for the failures of conservative economic policies that have destroyed our economy.

I must ask my Republican friends – is THIS the sort of “leader” that you want to represent your party? Really?

  10. ralph the wonder llama says:

Grampy’s losin’ it, folks. In a campaign stop today in PA, he referred to “my fellow prisoners”.

It’ll be okay, Grampy. Have a nice cup of hot cocoa… I’ll make sure those damn kids stay off the lawn.

  11. EugeneDebs says:

On his BEST DAY Boehner doesnt have one TENTH of Franks intelligence, wit or class. A political organization once did a poll among house staffers and Barney Frank was voted both MOST intelligent and FUNNIEST member of the House. Boener cant even DREAM of having Barneys talents

  12. Helga says:

Boehner is the one who couldn’t pronounce Tuskegee. He is an idiot.

  13. shoeless says:

Boehner is just showing off because it has been a long time since he was sober enough to pronounce Massachusetts.

  14. rocknerd says:

Maybe Boehner assumed that since Barney is from Mass he is Irish. And, as McCain said, Irish jokes are the only acceptable ethnic jokes in politics.

  15. JMOHR says:

But this is what the Republican party stands for: Rule of, by and for the bullies. These are the people who always picked on the little guy/girl in high school. You know, the one who was never really as bright as most others but sort of forced their way in. The Republican party loves the tough guy and is the ultimate party of might makes right. Of course, might is money and those lackeys such as Boner just want to suck at the ***** of their moneyed masters.

  16. DidHeJustSayThat says:

A guy named Boe(h)ner is cracking jokes at others expense. Seriously?

This guy is not even smart. Really, he’s not smart.

  17. Tired of being lied to says:

Looks like his overuse of hair spray is affecting his logic bucket. Hair like that can only come out of a box – or a can.

And with a name like Boner, he’s making fun of someone else?

    What a jerque.

  18. Buckie Boy says:

I bet Barney didn’t “CRY” about it, now did he “BONER”.

Typical repubuscum, no ethics, no morals, just filled with hate and contempt for anyone not the Criminal Mafia.

  19. Gimme a Break says:

Where did the Jesuits who taught him go wrong? What a sophomoric, mean-spirited man he must be.

But if Barney and the Boner came to fisticuffs, my money would be on the boy from Bayonne; not the hayseed from Ohio who still uses Brylcreem.

  20. squidbilly says:

He spoke at the GOP Victory Dinner….one problem, where is the victory????

  21. liberal traitor says:

Where did the Jesuits who taught him go wrong?

Let’s leave the Jesuits out of this, because I’m sure they would like to be. He’s an embarrassment to St. Ignatius.

    Moving right along…

I can’t say anything else about Frank v. Boehner that hasn’t already been said.

  22. LibertyLover says:

With a name like Boehner … I don’t think he should talk.

  23. livelongandprosper says:

Boehner had better stock up on Kleenex!

  24. Doc Rock says:

The question is how Boehner talks with so many lobbyists’ hand up his . . .?

  25. vat694848 says:

What was on the menu at this GOP victory dinner, bread and water? Hey Boenher can you pass me a Marlboro?

  26. IBTunion4obama says:

Frank has more intelligence than Boehner will ever have. There’s a reason why Boehner is in the minority of the House and not the majority.

  27. whosbarmynow says:

It’s funny to me that my right-wing dad, who’s has voted Republican since Nixon (though he hates the current Bush) thinks Barney is the smartest Congressman in the House. Dad watches C-SPAN a lot and has heard from most of ‘em, if not all of them.

    Respect!

  28. Keith says:

To be fair, Boner must also criticize JulieAnnie who not only has a lisp, but likes to dress up as Marilyn Monroe on national tv. And he’s an adulterer who was parading down Broadway in the St. Patrick Day’s Parade with his mistress, got kicked out of his Governor’s Mansion for bringing his mistress home in front of the kids. So, he moved in with a same-sex couple and slept on their floor. And he tried to get his Buddy the Bouncer Bernie head of Homeland Security.

Boner must also criticize Romney for being the governor of Massachusetts.

I generally like Barney Frank but I’m opposed to the recent bailout. I side with Kucinich, Sanders, Sherman, and Feingold.

  29. sectionop92 says:

Boehner really needs to watch the M*A*S*H episode where Winchester teaches us all that speech impediments are not only linked to some of histories finest individuals, but they do not impede intellectual development and grace.

Then again, some of the “finest” Republicans make me think intelligence is more of a courtesy title and not a fact of the matter.

  31. A Patriot Acting says:

I’m not concerned about this hack’s mocking of Rep. Frank. I am certain that Frank, being the bigger man, can take whatever bullshit spews from the mouths of bottom feeding Republicans. What I am concerned about is that this perpetually tanned and shelacked crybaby and his party of obstructionist deregulators take personal potshots at their political rivals while trying to place the blame for this financial meltdown on the Democrats. Face it Republicans…YOU OWN THIS RECESSION! No amount of mudslinging and deflection will change the FACTS that years of deregulation and acquiescence to corporate interests over the desires of their constituents have dangerously hobbled our economy. Bowing to their masters Bush and Cheney (the same duo that these Reps looking for re-election are trying to distancing themselves from) on the war in Iraq and aiding the WH with their obstructionism has squandered our military and our Treasury. Their penchants for doing the bidding of their lobbyist buddies over what is right for the Nation is what has lead to America’s awakening to some of the problems in Washington. And yet they continue to blame Democrats despite the overwhelming opinions of economists that this debacle could have been avoided by simply enforcing existing regulation and implementing the oversight that the Dems have long fought for. Laugh it up Boehner, your Party is passe. A relic of the 20th Century.
