Speaking at an Atlantic luncheon Monday, New York Times columnist David Brooks said Gov. Sarah Palin “represents a fatal cancer to the Republican party” because of her tendency to “scorn ideas entirely,” comparing her to President Bush:
[Sarah Palin] represents a fatal cancer to the Republican party. . … Reagan had an immense faith in the power of ideas. But there has been a counter, more populist tradition, which is not only to scorn liberal ideas but to scorn ideas entirely. And I’m afraid that Sarah Palin has those prejudices. I think President Bush has those prejudices.
Watch it:
So why is it that the Right loves her? Other than they can jerk off to her? she has locked up the brain dead vote.
October 8th, 2008 at 4:41 pmIt’s not just “thoughts” that Bush and Palin scorn, but thinking, the use of the brain.
October 8th, 2008 at 4:43 pmI just finished reading about this over at HuffPo. Brooks is going to be strung up by the short and curlies over this, even though the “real conservatives” have always dismissed him anyway. He’ll be hanging there with Peggy Noonan — piñatas for the wingers.
October 8th, 2008 at 4:43 pmWorse than a fatal cancer….
October 8th, 2008 at 4:47 pm
He’s gonna get Kathleen Parkered.
October 8th, 2008 at 4:47 pmBeing a left of center person, I’m usually able to find common ground with true conservatives. But these Rove-Christianist Republicans are a total different, extreme breed. And they’re genuinely ignorant which is why they vilify people who are the polar opposite or dare to be pragmatic.

There has always been a significant voting bloc that simply fears smart people and wants to elect someone “just like us.” On some level, they sense the reality that most of the people inside the Beltway despise “regular folks”, which allows them to be suckered by fake “regular folks” like Bush. Palin really does seem to be just the small-town person she portrays herself to be, and not in a good way. She’s got the pettiness and shallowness of small-town life, but not the friendliness and hospitality.
October 8th, 2008 at 4:50 pmHey folks, the Palin Porn hasn’t been titled yet. I see a great opportunity here. Any suggested titles?
October 8th, 2008 at 4:50 pmHeh. TheZoo has just posted one of Wayne’s famous song parodies dedicated to Palin.

October 8th, 2008 at 4:51 pmAnd in this case I hope there is no chemotherapy that works.
October 8th, 2008 at 4:53 pmAs with everything else, the repubs are merely looking for their scapegoat. They’re already in ‘blame mode’ because of being behind in the polls. They’ll ignore the fact that the majority of the country is fed up with the entire party and blame an individual that actually had very little to do with their situation.
October 8th, 2008 at 4:55 pmYes, it is all Palin’s fault. That’s right! Let’s blame her. Let’s ignore eight years of buffoonery as the cause the republicans are doing poorly…
October 8th, 2008 at 5:00 pmWhatever Brooks… “Conservative ideas” extend no further than creative ways of wording dismantling the New Deal… and that includes Reagan.
Look closely. It’s all they have and after years in power while growing the Federal Government to it’s largest incarnation ever, not to mention the bailout bill, so they don’t even have that anymore.
Oh, I guess that’s what he was saying.
October 8th, 2008 at 5:00 pmWow. The short epic journey of Sarah Palin–from pitbull Hockey Mom that will save the GOP to fatal cancer(representative).
She does seem like one of those moms who warns her children “Don’t go gettin’ any ideas in your head!”
October 8th, 2008 at 5:01 pmAnd the brain-dead voter is always receptive to the idea of a “Washington outsider”, never grasping the idea that once elected, that outsider becomes an insider. Reagan, Clinton, and Dubya ALL ran as “outsiders”.
I think the only president or vice-president we’ve had during my lifetime that came closest to remaining an “outsider” throughout his term was probably Jimmy Carter. And we all saw how effective he was, even though he was an intelligent man with good ideas.

Bare A Cootie?
October 8th, 2008 at 5:07 pmThe Republican Party itself IS a fatal cancer to America.
October 8th, 2008 at 5:09 pmIsn’t it just adorable how conservatives refuse to admit anything until the complete catastrophic implosion of our country. How refreshing…
October 8th, 2008 at 5:14 pmThe real cancer is bush. If they had gone through chemo (impeachment) at the right time, they may have been well enough now to run a decent campaign and have a shot.

Kathleen has learned her lesson. She is back on board the GOP sinking ship.

October 8th, 2008 at 5:18 pmOl’ Chimpy said it himself: “Knowledge is dangerous“.
October 8th, 2008 at 5:18 pmHow would he know?
October 8th, 2008 at 5:20 pmScorn ideas? They are like kryptonite to them. Also, as the 9-11 Commission pointed out, the Bush gang lacked imagination, too. What’s left but fear and force? Doesn’t sound like a foundation for an open society.
October 8th, 2008 at 5:21 pmPalin’s Porn: “Drill Me Baby, Drill”
October 8th, 2008 at 5:24 pmPalin Porn titles:
“Field-dress My Moose”
“Nailin’ Palin”
“The Devil in Miss Heath”
“Sarah Does Beauty Pageants”
“Play My (Meat) Flute”
October 8th, 2008 at 5:24 pmWell, that makes two candidates that are Fatal Cancer – McGonnaDie and McMoose are not McCancer and Fatal Cancer….but in reality, republicans are a cancer on America, and we need to rid ourselves of this disease.

October 8th, 2008 at 5:32 pmIs Brooks implying that Bush is a fatal cancer to the GOP?
If so, I agree.
I’d add he is a cancer to the rest of us too.
Where can we get treatment to remove the tumor(s)?
October 8th, 2008 at 5:33 pmAnd David Brooks, like the little girl in the “Shake ‘n’ Bake” commercials is qualified to say, “. . . and I helped!”
October 8th, 2008 at 5:37 pm“Fatal cancer”?
October 8th, 2008 at 6:17 pmThat’s a bit harsh. A rectal abscess is a more apt description.
Meanwhile, Cindy McCain says Obama is waging the “dirtiest campaign in American history”.
Thought you all might want a little comic relief.
October 8th, 2008 at 6:25 pmWho does David Brooks think he’s fooling. David was so excited that Bush gave him a private meeting he had an orgasm while reporting it on PBS. When Sarah aka Betty Boop was announced David couldn’t stop talking about how great she was even saying she was a better candidate then Joe Biden. When Sarah gave the wink David was all over it and just wouldn’t stop talking and drulling every time he said her name. I guess now David is looking to keep his job as he wont be invited to the White House by the next President.
October 8th, 2008 at 7:05 pmBecause, shoeless, even though he’s never personally had to wrestle with the demon called “knowledge”, he’s seen the damage it’s wrought on some of the best minds of his generation.
And he’s steered well clear of it his whole life.
October 8th, 2008 at 7:44 pmGood! I hope it kills you!
October 8th, 2008 at 7:48 pmMy, my, my. Brooks turned on Betty Boop Palin. Palin turns on NYT and Brooks turns on Palin since NYT is Brooks’ employer. With friends like Betty Boop Palin, who needs enemies?
October 8th, 2008 at 8:07 pmwhere have all the trolls gone?
long time passing.
