the AIG executives used your bailout money for an excursion, or an escape, at a posh spa, at $400,000 to california..
how do you like that?
where is the accountability, who is following the money to see how and when they are going to bail out the US government out of the 10 trillion dollar deficit??? The taxpayers are being screwed, royally..on bush and cheney’s way out..speaking of cheney…that guy disappeared?..out of sight, out of mind? whats he up to?

Actually, it was .5%, along with the European Central Bank, the Bank of England and the central banks of Canada and Sweden. And perhaps we can better understand the protests against globalization, including the economic power of the the WTO or the World Bank or the International Monetary Fund. Brings to mind some interesting theories about the New World Order. I’m posting a link only because I think they are interesting; not necessarily that I believe any or all of the ideas. On the other hand, who knows for sure?

The payoff is a bad plan,

paulson has the audacity to tell other countries what to do, advising other countries on “Wednesday urged intensified global cooperation to stabilize financial markets and said countries must be careful not to harm one another while they guard their own interests.”

Then this little ditty, “Paulson recited the numerous measures that members of the G7 — the United States, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Japan — and others have taken to try to halt plunging stock prices and rebuild confidence, but said more was needed.”

Is this the same as the G8?

Ahhhh. Welcome back, to one of our great friends from the ’90s. No, not Newt, but Paul Begala’s favorite example of the loose (to be charitable) relationship between Republican leaders and reality: BizarroNewt. You know, the guy who railed against gov’t regulation of the pharmaceutical industry by blaming the FDA for the deaths of thousands of Americans annually because they held up approval of a life-saving new heart pump from Europe. Two problems with this: 1) No one had ever submitted said pump for FDA approval because, 2) Studies in Europe had shown it to be totally useless, if not down-right dangerous when compared to traditional CPR.

Did this stop BizarroNewt? Of course not. Facts about lives not saved were far less important than having a shocking (and it would be…if it were in any way true) anecdote about the big, evil government stifling the life-saving and altruistic efforts of Corporate America.

Why won’t this nut just go away?

Newter is gearing himself up (again) for a run at the White House, probably fantasizing about Palin on the ticket with him in 2012. Conservatives still seem to think he’s a brainiac and all he needs to do is provide a moving target for everyone else. He can selectively quote from anything he said previously depending on the audience. And he’s not really letting anyone pin him down about whether the bailout was a good thing or not.

Heck, he’s probably fantasizing about Palin being the next Mrs. Gingrinch and running as the first married ticket. The current Mrs. G better start watching her health; if she gets sick, bam! She’s outta there, dontcha know?

Newt and Songbird Johny are cut from the same cloth. They will say whatever is necessary to win and the truth or past positions be damned. It would ordinarily take a free and fair press to inform the public and protect our democracy. However, the press has become nothing more than lap dogs to their corporate masters and incapable of fulfilling their role. Indeed, given what happened at Palin’s rally yesterday, I am sure that we will see Brown Shirts clubbing any truth out of the press.
