McCain addresses crowd as ‘my fellow prisoners.’

The Jed Report notes that in a rally today, Sen. John McCain referred to his audience as “my fellow prisoners“:

Across this country, this is the agenda I have set before my fellow prisoners. And the same standards of clarity and candor must now be applied to my opponent.

    Well, that was…. odd.

  2. Uncle Ho says:

A hint of things to come? After FDR won the election in 1932, he forgave his enemies. But when Hitler came to power, he shot/imprisoned his friends.

    Just an observation.

  3. paleolib says:

And Sarah didn’t even blink when he said it. Wonder which Donnie & Marie song she had running through her head to pass the time.

  4. Abu Ben Hussein Leporello says:

McWorse’s programming is breaking down under the stress. His error correction routines are being swamped and his speech centers are accessing the wrong subroutines as a result. Pity, as the animatronics seem to be working pretty well, although the programmers Really have to work on the smile subroutines.
    Impeach…..

  5. Zooey says:

Did you know he was POW…?

    Srsly, the man has dementia.

  6. hussein toasterhead says:

That’s just how McCain pronounces “Americans,” okay? It’s cute and folksy! Why are you elitist libs criticizing him for this??!?!

  7. Kay says:

Martial Law just rolls right off of McBush’s tongue and Pallid doesn’t bat an false eyelash…

  8. j swift says:

I suppose if you want to say we have all been prisoners of the imprudent policies and incompetent leadership of the Republican party for past 6 years – well I would agree with him.

  9. misshusseinmolly says:

Eh — as much as I’d like to use this as evidence that McSenile is losing it, I suspect it’s just a brain fart brought on by many speeches and too little sleep — the typical campaign lifestyle. It could happen to anyone — especially somebody recovering from too many pep pills to get through a debate the night before.

But why “prisoners”? Was it because his mind was busy trying to work his POW experience into what he was going to say next and the wires just got crossed?

  10. celtic cynic says:

He was thinking ahead to the next talking point (or was it the last one?).

Did you know that he was once a prisoner of war?

Did you know that we’re supposed to be very afraid?

  11. ralph the wonder llama says:

Completely agree, missM. He’s under a lot of stress, probably isn’t sleeping or eating well, scrambling to regain his footing…

It’s just a weird Freudian slip to make.

  12. bronzbootz says:

Cindy, I think it’s time to have that “talk” with your hubby. Bring Sarah for moral support… or as a human shield.

  13. TheDailyBanter.com says:

As Bob Cesca likes to say…the man has totally lost his shpadoinkle

  14. cvkathy says:

It’s interesting that no one – NOT ONE PERSON is reacting. That would indicate that John McCain’s own supporters don’t even listen to him.

  15. Leftside Annie says:

    Yikes. Old dude’s losing it…

  16. Tired of being lied to says:

This is what is meant when one uses the term “off his rocker.”

    Way off.

And did you notice that no one even shuddered at his utterance? Maybe they are all just happy to be getting new striped jumpsuits as soon as the old man shuts up.

  17. tom says:

He was thinking ahead to the next talking point (or was it the last one?).

I am beginning to think that McNumbNuts is well beyond “talking points”.

All he has left are “tanking points”.

  18. Kay says:

The McBush/Pallid ticket is a joke. And these next 3 weeks we are going to see some serious mudslinging. If the McBush camp released his medical entire record this man would not be the nominee. This high-heeled Rovian dream nightmare is a heartbeat away –which scares the bejezus out of me.

  19. Buckie Boy says:

Uh? Well I guess we are all prisoners to the Bush/Cheney Recession II.

Does this cancer ridden corpse make sense only occasionally?

  20. RantingTommy says:

calling dr freud ….. dr freud….

  21. DidHeJustSayThat says:

Now he is talking to Americans. Only thing is, just like in Nam, he’s working with the enemy – Bush Admin.

  22. DidHeJustSayThat says:

What a shallow attempt to introduce his POW story.

  23. 666lattes says:

    Kay Says:

Your earlier post was the first thing that came to mind… This could very well be similar to how Bush’s moments of “misspeaking” were actually where the most truth has been revealed.

“We will stand up for terror.”

“We hold dear what our Declaration of Independence says, that all have got uninalienable rights, endowed by a Creator.”

    etc…

  24. Bozo The Neoclown says:

It’s pretty sad when caribou barbie gives you the “what the fu*k are you talking about” look that she gave grampy mclame at 13 seconds in this clip. Dementia set in

  25. larkohio says:

  26. mongo says:

The needle’s starting to slip out of the groove.

    Some sort of freudian slip?

Clearly the pressure of Teh Fail is getting to him.

Reminds me of Stockdale’s “Who am I? Why am I here?” moment.

  27. RUCerious says:

I really DO know that senility is nothing to laugh about…

    But…

    BUHWAWAWAWAWAWAWWAWAWAH!

  28. shoeless says:

I guess this means he wants to expand the facilities at Guantanamo Bay.

  29. upside99 says:

Where have all the trollies gone? Have they finally realized how futile this has become?

Watching the S.S McDepends/Flailin sink, bow-first, is an awesome sight!

    My favorite:

“Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.”

  31. judyinnm says:

After eight years of Bush/Cheney, I think “my fellow prisoners” is a wholy appropriate term. Have you seen the fence?

  32. RUCerious says:

And the same standards of clarity and candor must now be applied to my opponent.

In other words Obama is free to call himself a POW?

  33. squidbilly says:

    Dang.

When the wheels come off, the wheels really come off…the brain gets unplugged, words mangled and psychic collapse.

When mccan’t speaks the crowd hears “bla bla bla Obama bla bla unamerican bla bla terrorist bla bla not like us bla bla.

  35. RUCerious says:

LURKER, nice point, spot on. Like rabid dogs, just waiting for the attack command…

  36. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

I agree that it is pretty amazing that no one behind McCain reacted to what he said in any way. I imagine they are so tired of his boring rhetoric they were all off daydreaming somewhere. He puts his supporters to sleep the same way he puts us to sleep. That’s why they all like Sarah Barracuda. At least she keeps them awake.

  37. dbadass says:

I could have sworn I saw that big weird ball thing following me on my way to work this morning…

  38. lurker says:

As Obama said last night “I think the straight talk express
lost a wheel on that one”

  39. shoeless says:

    upside99 Says:

Where have all the trollies gone? Have they finally realized how futile this has become?

Obviously. They have endured more humiliation than any human could endure.

They were crushed when Katrina exposed their Bushgod as an emperor with no clothes, and the public finally began to realize his entire administration was based on lies.

They were shocked when the sheer incompetence, sexual perversion, and vast corruption of the Republicans in Congress led to a devastating defeat in 2006.

They were demoralized when their field of presidential candidates turned out to be so pathetic that a senile old man they have hated for years won the GOP nomination by default.

Now they have been forced into the realization that the ticket of McGrampy and Vampy is a national laughing stock.

  40. Marie says:

Someone just commented on the radio that at the end of the debate, McCain was again confused about which way to walk off the stage and you can see Obama gently placing his hand on his back and steering him (so that he wouldn’t be left alone standing where he shouldn’t?) and that was when Brokaw said they were blocking his teleprompter.
McCain shook a few hands and left — The Obamas stayed long and visited with every one on the panel, including the former petty officer.
    Cindy ignored Michelle.

  41. Marie says:

McCain continues to display evidence that he is not mentally fit enough to be president with all that the job involves.

  42. Marie says:

Anyone count how many times McCain said “my friends” last night. Is that a nervous tic?
Did he ever mention the middle class?

  43. Marie says:

No one is talking about Iraq these days: 4180

  44. RantingTommy says:

    Marie Says:

I don’t think he’s fit to be in charge of the lunch line at the retirement home.

  45. judyinnm says:

McCain also seems to have not lost his affection for those brave “Afghan freedom fighters” (i.e. Osama bin Laden and his band of merry men) who drove Russia out of Afghanistan, despite all that’s gone down, since…. Short term memory loss?

  46. ScrewBush says:

McCain: “My bad. Sometimes I get the little blue pill confused with the little pink pill, and that’s why I just called you all prisoners.”

  47. Doc Rock says:

Looked like Palin almost bit her tongue off when he said that! Even she noticed?

  48. Jackie says:

Soon McCain will not be able to hide the fact he’s really ill. Watching a speech given by McCain showed he is really out of control and medically he needs help. Cancer and pain is what McCain is suffering from. The medication he’s taking causes him to have memory lost and not being able to think quickly. His movement is slow and it’s harder to hide all that with a smile. My biggest fear is he will pass out in front of people during a speech. This campaign is to much for him and if he doesn’t do something about it no only will he lose the race but maybe his life. Please pray for John McCain even if your not voting for him.

  49. lurker says:

    Marie Says:
Obama gently placing his hand on his back and steering him…

As a Naval Aviation veteran myself (74-79) and a resident of AZ I sometimes feel sorry for him. (I’m a softy at heart)
He is well past his prime and he sold his soul to the wingnuts. If he were a true mavrick he would fire his whole
staff send Sarah packing. Apoligize to the american public
and put together a small team to finish out the race. Then
I would have some respect for him.

  50. Michael Lafferty says:

‘My friends, I am 72 years old and sharp as a marble.’

The one standing stage right—the brunette with the antlers—is clearly Governor Palin. Is the little blond tart behind and to his left his daughter Meghan?

What’s with the ‘moose in the headlights’ look that each of them wears?

  51. wiley says:

    “My fellow prisoners.”

Whoa. Sure it’s just a slip of the lip, but WHOA.

How terribly effing creepy does it get?

  52. livelongandprosper says:

I just hope McCain doesn’t die before the election. The pace of campaigning seems to be taking a toll on him.

  53. greenpagan says:

Okay. He’s nuts…Or maybe just up past his bedtime. Poor old guy. Give him some milk and cookies and his teddy…

  54. livelongandprosper says:

    Cindy ignored Michelle.

Cindy is a whole basket case in her own right.

  55. tarazan says:

    Is McCain hinting? !

  56. lurker says:

    Jackie Says:
Your right and I have taken my shots at him, but he does my
true sympathy. Even if he doesn’t deserve it.

  57. gummitch says:

You know, even without the “prisoners” gaffe nothing he said made any sense.

  58. swcraig says:

He is losing it, she has lost it.

Come on what more can you say.

  59. impeachcheneythenbush says:

Several commentators above said the audience (or Palin) didn’t react. Look at the link to Jed’s video which has a slightly wider look. To me, at least, Palin looked like she was trying her best to NOT react. The young girl to McCain’s left I think is a granddaughter. She kind of crooked her mouth but tried not to react otherwise. Several people behind him in the audience looked at each other and started talking. This didn’t go unnoticed.

  60. Shayne says:

The scary thing is he didn’t catch himself after he said it.

  61. LividLib says:

It just a matter of time before his staff find him in the bathroom on the floor in the fetal position wearing only his Depends, sucking his thumb and mumbling, “Mommy! Mommy! I want my Mommy!”

  62. whosbarmynow says:

    Jackie Says:
“Soon McCain will not be able to hide the fact he’s really ill” and too much other whacko nonsense to bother with. C’mon, Jackie, McCain’s got plenty of manifestly obvious problems. Give us an indication where you get your evidence that is practically dying of cancer. You’re as bad as the Republicans if you regurgitate this swill without the facts.

Not that this isn’t the Interwebtubes. And Palin noticed.

  63. whosbarmynow says:

Crap, I meant “your evidence that HE is practically dying of cancer.”

  64. celtic cynic says:

Did anyone notice McCain’s little dance/shuffle around the stage last night?

Nothing but little baby steps, couldn’t stay in one place at all, a sign of insecurity?

Or maybe he wet his pants or took an unscheduled dump?

  65. wiley says:

Actually, whosbarmynow, it is McCain who should be giving evidence. The way he has handled the release of his very limited records, and limited exposure to a few journalists who couldn’t take notes is reminiscent of Bush and the 9/11 investigation.

The public has every right to full disclosure of his physical and mental health. It’s a national security issue, and the danger is NOT giving the public accurate information.

  66. Max-1 says:

    .

    “My fellow prisoners…?”

Funny, most distinguished people would address the American public as, “My fellow countrymen.”

    .

  67. republicanSScareme says:

    Idiot. More idiot. Irrepressible idiot.

  68. krdaddy says:

That’s one of the scariest things I’ve ever seen.
