Audio of Rev. Arnold Conrad.»

We’ve posted the audio of Rev. Conrad’s invocation at McCain’s rally in Davenport earlier today.

UpdateMarc Ambinder reports this response from the McCain camp: "While we understand the important role that faith plays in informing the votes of Iowans, questions about the religious background of the candidates only serve to distract from the real questions in this race about Barack Obama's judgment, policies and readiness to lead as commander in chief."

Are you sure he is talking about who’s God is bigger, when I listened I though it sounded like he was mumbling about his little pee pee.

  2. Another Joe Says:

Funny how when they get away with grand-theft, bamboozles, treason, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, these folks proclaim it is the will of God.

And when anything doesn’t go their way, they whine and complain about what, according to their earlier proclamations about the Lord , must be the will of God.

  3. miatch Says:

He thinks people pray to “Hindu”.

Mr. Conrad, you are not smart.

  4. Crusty Old Bastard Says:

The fool forgot to mention Moo Moo Mau Mau the Witch Doctor preacher that blessed Nailed Palin. That is an interesting conflict of interest.

    CONGRATULATIONS, PRESIDENT OBAMA!

Heh… I like it… McPain is now forced to pay defense wherever he goes, and whenever his supporters shoot off their mouths.

First John had to put his audience in their place the other night, and now this.

You KNOW he hates having to do this.

Here’s a web site with the pastor’s email address should any of you care to leave him a note. I just sent this to him:

    “Sir

As a person of faith (yes, your faith) I found your invocation today to represent the worst of what religion can do. You should be ashamed to judge that McCain is the “Christian” candidate. I assure you that many Christians are supporting Sen. Obama.

Sen. McCain supported an unjust war costing over 100,000 lives
Sen. McCain supported a loophole allowing torture by the US military
Sen. McCain has shown in the past four weeks that he does not take the commandment “thou shalt not lie” seriously. He has shamelessly defamed Sen. Obama
Sen. McCain has repeatedly shown that he is in favor of taking care of the few instead of “the least of us”, as jesus taught.

Faith- any faith- has the power to bring out the best in humanity. However, as history has shown, it can be divisive and bring out the worst in us. Surely you know that. I urge you to reconsider your words today and issue an HONEST public apology. To claim that your prayer was not slanted towards one of the candidates is simply not credible. And it is just another black mark against people of faith in a world that surely needs unity, peace, and forgiveness more than ever.

    Most sincerely yours,

    Mark Landry”

That was a pretty weak response by the McCain campaign. They should have repudiated that insulting prayer, emphasizing that the Constitution recognizes freedom of religion. But I guess the only part of the Constitution that conservatives care about is the Second Amendment.

  9. MrSquirrel Says:

Maybe we should email Pastor Conrad and inform him what we think of his divisive sacrilege.

Does he really believe that God needs his advice on how to protect His honor and reputation? How thoroughly arrogant is that? Pastor Conrad is apparently of the belief that he is wiser than God?

  10. MrSquirrel Says:

    Here’s mine:

    Dear Pastor Conrad,

I must say that as a Christian, I found your invocation in Davenport today offensive.

What did you mean, when you said, “There are plenty of people around the world who are praying to their god, be they Hindu, Buddah, or Allah, that his opponent wins. I pray that you step forward and honor your own name.”?

It seems to imply that you think God is, or should be, on the side of Mr. McCain, while only people of other religions think otherwise. Your words make it sound as if the non-Christian world is praying to their god for Mr. Obama to win, against God’s wishes.

Your words not only insult millions of devout and faithful Christians, including Mr. Obama and myself, but they insult Christianity as a whole. They make God seem like some petty arbiter of your personal wishes. Your appeals to God’s “reputation” (?) , and the honor of His name, clearly imply that you believe that these are questions upon which He would need your advice.

The concept that God would need your urging to protect His own honor and reputation by bestowing victory upon your chosen political candidate borders on sacrilege. Perhaps I have misinterpreted your words, but those are the strong impressions they convey, even upon serious reflection. I without doubt would be ashamed to be associated with any sect of Christianity that would impel me to endorse such words.

    Sincerely,
    A fellow Christian

I wonder if that sets a new world record for most hypocrisy in a single sentence?

  13. ennealogic Says:

Contrary to what Marc Ambinder suggests, it would be of great benefit to the country if someone would expose for us, in detail, Sarah Palin’s closely-held religious beliefs. After all, Barack Obama has been vetted quite thoroughly in this regard.

We’ve had enough of GW types who think God talks to him. I wonder what we’d discover if we peeked behind Sarah’s curtain a little?

most of these quotes are sick! Obama will be the worst president this country will ever see Yes even worst then Bush or Carter He will raise taxes and drive us into a depression then you all can be happy as you all stand in the soup lines because there will be no one working to pay taxes so no help from the feds will be there. So you all vote for him and I will sit here and laugh at you as you stand in line begging for food.
