Philadelphia Flyers fans boo ‘hockey mom’ Palin.

Watch Sarah Palin get booed in Philadelphia before the Flyers’ hockey game tonight:

The AP reports it as “a mixture of boos and cheers.” The Wilmington News Journal describes it as “an avalanche of boos.”

UpdatePalin had hoped her daughter would shield her from the boos. Fox reports, "The GOP Vice-Presidential nominee said at an earlier fundraiser that she would stop some of the booing from the rowdy Philadelphia fans by putting her seven year old daughter, Piper in a Flyers jersey. She said, 'How dare they boo Piper!'"

About 90% boo. lol Oh well. There goes PA to the Dems.

AP is totally wrong. You can hear the boos overwhelmingly. That is, until the music drowns out the crowd. Ed Snyder is such a Republican whore. The AP, too.

"Philadelphia Flyers fans boo ‘hockey mom’ Palin"

lol And Philadelphians will let you know if they do or don't like you. And what is ironic is that Obama has spoken in Philadelphia today at 3 separate rallies today.

Memo to Palin: Don't make a trip to the baseball playoffs between Philles and Dodgers. You might jinx them.

  5. thomthum Says:

No it was mostly boos...and they're still booing, It's 4-1 Rangers. I think Willow had a moose pelt around her neck.

  6. noonan Says:

Forget the boos - look at the gestures in the crowd!

  7. ralph the wonder llama Says:

Let's keep it in perspective, folk, this is Philadelphia. They've booed Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. Jay johnstone once said if the ballgame was rained out, they'd go down to the airport and boo landings. At a Phillies game, they once booed a wheelchair-bound kid who threw out the first pitch because he got it to the catcher on one hop.

It would have been news if they hadn't booed her.

  8. ralph the wonder llama Says:

Maybe they're not really booing. Maybe they're chanting "Mooooooose burgers."

    Maybe?

  9. hanshiro Says:

The biggest problem: when Palin came out onto the Wachovia Center ice Saturday night — greeted by resounding (almost deafening) boos from the Flyers crowd...

How ironically appropriate; two bankrupt failures on thin ice...

  10. Jim Wolf359 Says:

I haveta agree with Ralph. I used to live in South Jersey and always thought the Philly Fans were the most classless fans I'd ever seen. They CHEERED when Michal Irvin almost broke his neck against the Eagles some years back.

  11. tablogloid Says:

I got really bad speakers. It sounded cacaphonious to me but my young son told me it was definitely mostly boos.

  12. Wayne A. Schneider Says:

I wonder if there would have been even more boos if she hadn't brought her daughters out on the ice with her.

    Interesting observation...

At this point, it seems like GOOPer Women, as represented by Palin, or Malkin, or Coulter, are actually manlier and tougher, than GOOPer Men, as represented by, oh, say, KKKarl Rove, or Hans Von Spankovsky (heh... LUV that name, Hans...), or Glen Beck... just pointing it out...

'Course, it's actually kinda hard to pin down an actual gender fer Coulter, huh?

  15. Another Joe Says:

    maybe they are yelling:

    pooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooontang!

ew! That is really gross - gotta bleach my brain.

  16. thomthum Says:

Ralph, don't know if you've ever been through PHL. You'd boo too! Last year I had a flight land 15 minutes early and by the time we got to the gate we were 20 minutes late! :-)

  17. moondancer Says:

Several Kossack buddies at the game told me the booing was well over half the crowd, Bush pioneer Ed Snyder(team owner) masked it with the Pa system.

  18. SP Biloxi Says:

Wow! Thanks for the pic, Nat. When Philly folks show up, they show up in droves.

I think Palin may have hexed the Flyers...or, at the very least, completely demoralized the team by the incessant booing of the crowd.

Rangers are up 4-2 at the end of the 2nd...didn't think i'd ever have to say this, but...thank you, Sarah Palin

  26. Gary Herstein Says:

This seems inappropriate to me. Palin is a braying jackass, but what value comes from revelling in the reaction of a mob? This kind of shite helps license RW "pundits" in their claims that the left is as vicious as the right. A bald-faced lie, of course -- for example Glenn Greenwald's comment in Salon from today/Saturday:
    http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2008/10/11/crowley/
But why give them a leg up on such lies? How does it advance progressive causes by wallowing in puerile vituperation?

I love the Obama/Biden sign in the crowd above Willow's head, and the thumbs down gestures.

    I don't think I would call it a "mob".
Her rallies are more "mob" like. IMO

  32. Yikes Says:

I can't believe this. Sarah Palin is actually admitting that she intentionally and deliberately used her 7-year old daughter as a human shield? OK, so its maybe not as bad using Piper to shield against boos, as the "Dead Zone" scene of Greg Stillson grabbing a child to use as a human shield against an assassin's bullet. But I must confess, the similarities between real-life Sarah and fictional Greg Stillson are getting more numerous, and more scary, every day.

I was at an event in Philly last Saturday where the booing was overwhelming, from 50,000+ people. Oh, that's right, they weren't saying "boo", WE were saying "BRUUUUUUCE"!

Guess we should be glad she didn't haul Trig out onto the ice.

She has no shame Zooey. She's like a soap-opera character. The one who makes all the sympathetic characters say, "god I hate that awful woman" when she leaves a room. Though she's taken it to a level where she gets that response entering a room.

Did they fake the sneer? You're right, I don't want to be as nasty as they are, but it wasn't too far off an idea that I wouldn't have believed it from Palin's brood. But that has nothing to do with politics and Piper is just a child being used by her mother for political reasons. My apologies for dissing the child.

  65. lurker Says:

Well I don't know that its a "hoax". If you zoom into the
"flippin one" it is sure more "crisp" and you can clearly

Besides yourself, is there anyone out there so monstrously incapable of understanding simple English sentences as to be confused about the explicitly state nature of the explicitly stated questions that I posed?

    Those poor kids.

  68. the Lone Voice of Reason Says:

detepe is right, let's leave the child out of it. Poor baby's got enough to worry about with her freaky religious nutjob mom trotting her out in public all the time. (Though I thought the second photo was fuzzier as well it doesn't matter.) The bigger picture is really her mother using the kids for shameful political purposes.

  69. detepe Says:

Oh lurker, wishing it just won't make it so.

I've got a wonderful daughter just about Piper's age. If I dragged her to endless "official"functions, I bet even she would be able to develop a prize winning sneer too.

I can't like Piper Palin but I am determined to try and be fair about her. She's a seven year old girl being raised by a power mad narcissist who doesn't value intellect or honesty. The kid has enough strikes against her.

I absolutely agree with you, and it was my intention to be clear on that point in my comment (hence, my link to Greenwald's comment at Salon). What conerns me here is how the TP highlight of this incident -- as well as the incident itself -- will be manipulated by the RW propaganda machine. Wallowing in such behavior as this incident is frankly a childish form of gratification. I am not saying that I am above it. I am only asking if it really serves progressive purposes to do it.

  75. RUCerious Says:

Gary, you're right in that there are so many more important things to bring up concerning McIIIrd and his hockeymomwannabeveep.

Gary Herstein Says:I am not saying that I am above it. I am only asking if it really serves progressive purposes to do it.

Yes but the average hockey fan in Philadelphia is a fey, latte-sipping, Prius-driving elitist with flowers in his hair and always saying, "peace, man." In fact, Flyers is actually short for Flower Children, and the team has always had a reputation for good sportsmanship and fair play and values winning the beloved Lady Byng trophy above all. Their fans throw rose petals on the ice after losses as a show of support and devotion. Natural Obama supporters every one, who would of course boo the other candidate, their lone boorish excess.

No, wait. Flyers fans view those brothers from Slapshot as role models and boo Santa Claus. You know, what the GOP calls it's base. Uh-oh, bad news for John Bush.

Yeah maybe it's was completely without political calculation that Palin brought her out on to the rink. But it was pretty well telegraphed in advance that she was going to get booed.
Politicians are routinely booed at sporting events. She and the campaign knew it was coming. So did they send her daughter out despite the impending boos or because of them?

It should be apparent by her repeated stump speeches, that she's the "horse-hockey" mom.

  111. AMacPill Says:

Ahhh...proud to be from Philly today!!! Anyone else notice that Scoot Gomez, the NHL's first (only?) player from Alaska, took the face off for the Rangers...

As for Gary Herstein...the people at this game are supposed to be her people...you know, Hockey Moms/Dads and Joe Six Pack, "regular" Americans...yet she was resoundingly booed. To me, this speaks volumes.

  112. DRxJ Says:

Well, it's official. Exley is dead! (Figuratively, of course. As in dead from posting here).
If there ever was a thread to antagonize the left, this was it.
But no. No post from him. No post at all stating there were more cheers then boos, or that there were only a handful of jeers.
Yep. Maybe he wised up. As in no longer supporting a failed administration and it's policies.
That, or he was laid off!

    Good day, all!

  113. tokin librul Says:

    "wallowing in puerile vituperation?"

    Moi?

Oui. Because I can't get close enough to land a crippling kick to the nads...

Palin is SUCH a parvenu. She is SO out of her class...The Wal-Mart dollie who fellates the asst. manager in the stock-room to get extra OT...

  114. tokin librul Says:

How dizzy is it for her to make an appearance on snl 10/25?

What I wanna know is WHAT THE PHUQUE is NBC doing, giving the parvenu princess so prominent a spot the week before the 'election?'

You've heard the old PR wheeze: There is no such thing as "bad" publicity?

Even if the fuukin HUMILIATE the bint, strip her down to bra and thong, she STILL gets a million dollars worth of free air, and a chance to be a martyr.

It seems to me to be a HUGE phookin sell-out...

  115. blogoffanddie Says:

John McCain and Sarah “my god can beat up your god” Palin represent more of the same mindless Bush bullshit, light on brains, heavy on bombs. From the sounds of it, the people are starting to wake up. Please, everyone, vote.

I would never hit someone with a hockey stick, unless of course, we were playing hockey. Then I swing at anything that moves.

    ClusterTim Says:

Are you a republican? You seem to want your message out there about your product but you don't seem to be willing to pay for it.....you want it for free so you spam.

My theory is that all spammers are republicans. Why don't you contact TP and pay them to advertise your product instead of spamming our threads?

    flagged for spamming.

  117. buma Says:

I am proud to be a Philadelphian. Sarah can spend all the time she wants in PA. It would mean less time for her to spend in the swing states.

  118. Technodaoist Says:

    "How dare they boo Piper?"

    ???????

How dare you hide like a coward behind your daughter.

How dare you use your children for political gain while attacking those who point out the hypocrisy of your party's stance on teen pregancy and the state of our society.

How dare you think you are the right choice for anything, much less Vice-President.

How dare you, Ms. "hockey-mom", how dare you...

  119. Wayne A. Schneider Says:

Okay, so from now on, we don't refer to her as a "hockey mom", we refer to her as a "hockey puck". That's just what this election cycle needed - Don Rickles.

  120. greenpagan Says:

Let's face it...They were booing Sarah's kid! WHAAAT...?

lol And Philadelphians will let you know if they do or don’t like you. And what is ironic is that Obama has spoken in Philadelphia today at 3 separate rallies today.

Here’s a picture from one of the events in Philly.

OMG, that's awesome. It's such a shame that the MSM is in the bag for the Republicans. I'm quite sure that picture didn't end up in many newspapers or on many news websites. But they always over estimate the crowds at Palin events. I wonder what the polling would be like if the MSM wasn't in the bag for the Republicans?

Oh, I read somewhere yesterday that many of the big wigs in the Republican party are recommending they use their money (separate from McCain's public financing) not to try to pull this out of the gutter for McCain but to try to save some of the Senatorial and House seats they are now set to lose. I think it's way too late for that, but, hey, let them do it.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. The kind of people who watch SNL are NOT the kind of people who are going to be voting for Sarah Barracuda and the Old Man.

  123. MrSquirrel Says:

You’ve heard the old PR wheeze: There is no such thing as “bad” publicity?

Even if the fuukin HUMILIATE the bint, strip her down to bra and thong, she STILL gets a million dollars worth of free air, and a chance to be a martyr.

That saying doesn't really apply in politics. It applies to those who wish to gain exposure and fame, but don't mind notoriety. Bad publicity can certainly hurt a politician running for office.

It would be awfully surprising if SNL doesn't find at least one way to make her look foolish. Sure, she'll get points for being a "good sport", but it's the foolish part that will stick in their minds as they fill out the ballot.

Sarah Palin booed by Flyers fans in Philly...without the music drowning out the boos.

    One thing for sure:

    She IS a HACKEY, ma'am!!!
