Update Palin had hoped her daughter would shield her from the boos. Fox reports, "The GOP Vice-Presidential nominee said at an earlier fundraiser that she would stop some of the booing from the rowdy Philadelphia fans by putting her seven year old daughter, Piper in a Flyers jersey. She said, 'How dare they boo Piper!'"
AP is totally wrong. You can hear the boos overwhelmingly. That is, until the music drowns out the crowd. Ed Snyder is such a Republican whore. The AP, too.
lol And Philadelphians will let you know if they do or don’t like you. And what is ironic is that Obama has spoken in Philadelphia today at 3 separate rallies today.
Memo to Palin: Don’t make a trip to the baseball playoffs between Philles and Dodgers. You might jinx them.
Let’s keep it in perspective, folk, this is Philadelphia. They’ve booed Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. Jay johnstone once said if the ballgame was rained out, they’d go down to the airport and boo landings. At a Phillies game, they once booed a wheelchair-bound kid who threw out the first pitch because he got it to the catcher on one hop.
The biggest problem: when Palin came out onto the Wachovia Center ice Saturday night — greeted by resounding (almost deafening) boos from the Flyers crowd…
How ironically appropriate; two bankrupt failures on thin ice…
I haveta agree with Ralph. I used to live in South Jersey and always thought the Philly Fans were the most classless fans I’d ever seen. They CHEERED when Michal Irvin almost broke his neck against the Eagles some years back.

Here’s a picture from one of the events in Philly.
At this point, it seems like GOOPer Women, as represented by Palin, or Malkin, or Coulter, are actually manlier and tougher, than GOOPer Men, as represented by, oh, say, KKKarl Rove, or Hans Von Spankovsky (heh… LUV that name, Hans…), or Glen Beck… just pointing it out…
‘Course, it’s actually kinda hard to pin down an actual gender fer Coulter, huh?
Ralph, don’t know if you’ve ever been through PHL. You’d boo too! Last year I had a flight land 15 minutes early and by the time we got to the gate we were 20 minutes late! :-)
This seems inappropriate to me. Palin is a braying jackass, but what value comes from revelling in the reaction of a mob? This kind of shite helps license RW “pundits” in their claims that the left is as vicious as the right. A bald-faced lie, of course — for example Glenn Greenwald’s comment in Salon from today/Saturday: http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2008/10/11/crowley/
But why give them a leg up on such lies? How does it advance progressive causes by wallowing in puerile vituperation?
I wonder if shes gonna drag her 7 year old daughter around as protection from now on. She could have her sitting in her lap in her next interviews with those pesky MSM journalists
I can’t believe this. Sarah Palin is actually admitting that she intentionally and deliberately used her 7-year old daughter as a human shield? OK, so its maybe not as bad using Piper to shield against boos, as the “Dead Zone” scene of Greg Stillson grabbing a child to use as a human shield against an assassin’s bullet. But I must confess, the similarities between real-life Sarah and fictional Greg Stillson are getting more numerous, and more scary, every day.
If you haven’t seen it yet here is a picture of palin little girl flippin off a little boy at one of her rallies. Look
at the “sneer” on her face as she doing it. Ha
“The GOP Vice-Presidential nominee said at an earlier fundraiser that she would stop some of the booing from the rowdy Philadelphia fans by putting her seven year old daughter, Piper in a Flyers jersey. She said, ‘How dare they boo Piper!’“
How dare you USE your child like that, you clueless b!tch?
Hey, don’t be dissing Philly! We’re going to deliver PA for Obama!
I was at an event in Philly last Saturday where the booing was overwhelming, from 50,000+ people. Oh, that’s right, they weren’t saying “boo”, WE were saying “BRUUUUUUCE”!
Guess we should be glad she didn’t haul Trig out onto the ice.
She has no shame Zooey. She’s like a soap-opera character. The one who makes all the sympathetic characters say, “god I hate that awful woman” when she leaves a room. Though she’s taken it to a level where she gets that response entering a room.
Hiding behind your kids is so shameful. At least the part of the crowd I saw wasn’t flipping her off in front of her children, which, I have to admit, is probably something I would do if they kids weren’t there.
Speaking of vile women. I happened to notice that the 6th Congressional District (Mn) debate was on a second string station. The incumbent, Michele Bachmann, elected not to participate.
She trots those poor kids out every chance she gets. We get it, Moose Lips, you’re fertile. How are these kids supposed to have any normalcy in their lives when they are propped around all the time–and isn’t school in session in Alaska right now?
WaltTheMan–got it. Sheesh!! where did she learn that from if they’re such a clean wholesome family? I would have broke my kid’s finger off for doing that. My seventeen year-old doesn’t do that!
And who’s the old gal looking so proud at little Piper’s flippin the bird- Grandma? My mom and M-I-L would have been smacking my kid upside the head for that and I would have told them to.
Did they fake the sneer? You’re right, I don’t want to be as nasty as they are, but it wasn’t too far off an idea that I wouldn’t have believed it from Palin’s brood. But that has nothing to do with politics and Piper is just a child being used by her mother for political reasons. My apologies for dissing the child.
Well I don’t know that its a “hoax”. If you zoom into the
“flippin one” it is sure more “crisp” and you can clearly
see her other finger folded. In the other one when you zoom
in it’s a lot more “fuzzy”. Plus the “sneer” says a lot.

“Republic of Stupidity” … how appropriate. Tell me, was there a special school you had to go to to learn to be such a drooling imbecile?
I realize that actually reading what I posted poses some really heroic difficulties. Nevertheless, it is beyond rational comprehension how anyone could be as confused as you evidently are about matters that require not significant level of thought whatsoever.
Besides yourself, is there anyone out there so monstrously stupid as to imagine that I was trolling for Palin or any of the RW cronies? Besides yourself, is there anyone out there so monstrously incapable of understanding simple English sentences as to be confused about the explicitly state nature of the explicitly stated questions that I posed?
Unlike you, I am not some gutless coward hiding behind a pseudonym. So unless you can actually lift yourself to some level that is distinguishable from that of a braying jackass, please do not address your infantile nonsense to me. If you’re looking for a troll, look in a mirror.
detepe is right, let’s leave the child out of it. Poor baby’s got enough to worry about with her freaky religious nutjob mom trotting her out in public all the time. (Though I thought the second photo was fuzzier as well it doesn’t matter.) The bigger picture is really her mother using the kids for shameful political purposes.
I’ve got a wonderful daughter just about Piper’s age. If I dragged her to endless “official”functions, I bet even she would be able to develop a prize winning sneer too.
I can’t like Piper Palin but I am determined to try and be fair about her. She’s a seven year old girl being raised by a power mad narcissist who doesn’t value intellect or honesty. The kid has enough strikes against her.
So, Piper is a mutant. Five fingers and an opposed thumb on her right hand. Also, her first finger is the same length as her index finger in the second pix.
This seems inappropriate to me. Palin is a braying jackass, but what value comes from revelling in the reaction of a mob?
You make a good point. On balance though, at least we didn’t hear anyone scream “kill her” or “traitor” or some such.

I absolutely agree with you, and it was my intention to be clear on that point in my comment (hence, my link to Greenwald’s comment at Salon). What conerns me here is how the TP highlight of this incident — as well as the incident itself — will be manipulated by the RW propaganda machine. Wallowing in such behavior as this incident is frankly a childish form of gratification. I am not saying that I am above it. I am only asking if it really serves progressive purposes to do it.
Gary, you’re right in that there are so many more important things to bring up concerning McIIIrd and his hockeymomwannabeveep.
But occasionally watching her get her just desserts after the nasty crap she’s been spouting seems karmatic to me.
But I’m curious… what the heck is that V for Victory sign she’s giving (in the real pic) with such an angry face? Does that mean something special nowadays? Is that some kind of gang salute, or what’s the deal?
I find it absolutely astounding that Palin brought her 7 year old daughter out with her knowing that the crowd was likely to boo her (Palin). Let me rephrase, I can’t imagine her using her 7 year old daughter as a shield against a likely bad reception. Great motherly instincts – way to go, Sarah.
I’m not wishing for anything. I looked at the evidence
that the “flippin” one was more crisp. When pictures are
“modified” they become more “fuzzy”. Did you look at them
closely?

I doubt that she had any inkling she’d be booed. Remember, she thinks she’s the chosen one. Gotta wonder if the kids will ever recover from this experience.
I think she was caught in the middle of the “I’m keepin’ an eye on you” jesture where you point to your own eyes then point to the other guy.
That could be it. Seems kind of weirdly arrogant for such a little kid to do, though.
I was kidding about the gang sign, btw. But it does look weird, so I was just curious. She might be asking an off-camera vendor for two hotdogs, for all I know.
Yeah, Gary. Fortunately my parents were sane. But the dinner table political conversations tended to be one way…

Yes but the average hockey fan in Philadelphia is a fey, latte-sipping, Prius-driving elitist with flowers in his hair and always saying, “peace, man.” In fact, Flyers is actually short for Flower Children, and the team has always had a reputation for good sportsmanship and fair play and values winning the beloved Lady Byng trophy above all. Their fans throw rose petals on the ice after losses as a show of support and devotion. Natural Obama supporters every one, who would of course boo the other candidate, their lone boorish excess.
No, wait. Flyers fans view those brothers from Slapshot as role models and boo Santa Claus. You know, what the GOP calls it’s base. Uh-oh, bad news for John Bush.
Ok I am going to drop the puck in front of the people who booed Santa I bet if I bring my daughter dress her up in Flyers gear they won’t boo me. Woman if you would have had Dick Vermeil, Julius Irving and the ghost of Norm Van Brocklin with you they would have booed your ass.
Okay. She established her “hockey” credentials. But I don’t know how she scored as a “mom”, bringing her daughter as a prop to hockey game.
Yeah maybe it’s was completely without political calculation that Palin brought her out on to the rink. But it was pretty well telegraphed in advance that she was going to get booed.
Politicians are routinely booed at sporting events. She and the campaign knew it was coming. So did they send her daughter out despite the impending boos or because of them?
Fox News edited the tape, cutting out the parts where the boos were loudest, and adjusting the sound to mitigate the boos in the rest of it. This just two days after they broadcast a segment where Palin’s campaign was complaining about an unretouched photo of her on the cover of Newsweek.
I looked at the evidence
that the “flippin” one was more crisp. When pictures are

I downloaded 4 versions of that picture onto my harddrive. The clearest of the so-called “fakes” downloaded at 402kb. The “original” on the Alaska State Website, file name, “2dscs1254_large” downloaded at 69kb. There’s no possible way to change a low-resolution original into a high-resolution copy.
Ahhh…proud to be from Philly today!!! Anyone else notice that Scoot Gomez, the NHL’s first (only?) player from Alaska, took the face off for the Rangers…
As for Gary Herstein…the people at this game are supposed to be her people…you know, Hockey Moms/Dads and Joe Six Pack, “regular” Americans…yet she was resoundingly booed. To me, this speaks volumes.
Well, it’s official. Exley is dead! (Figuratively, of course. As in dead from posting here).
If there ever was a thread to antagonize the left, this was it.
But no. No post from him. No post at all stating there were more cheers then boos, or that there were only a handful of jeers.
Yep. Maybe he wised up. As in no longer supporting a failed administration and it’s policies.
That, or he was laid off!
How dizzy is it for her to make an appearance on snl 10/25?

John McCain and Sarah “my god can beat up your god” Palin represent more of the same mindless Bush bullshit, light on brains, heavy on bombs. From the sounds of it, the people are starting to wake up. Please, everyone, vote.
Are you a republican? You seem to want your message out there about your product but you don’t seem to be willing to pay for it…..you want it for free so you spam.
My theory is that all spammers are republicans. Why don’t you contact TP and pay them to advertise your product instead of spamming our threads?
How dare you hide like a coward behind your daughter.
How dare you use your children for political gain while attacking those who point out the hypocrisy of your party’s stance on teen pregancy and the state of our society.
How dare you think you are the right choice for anything, much less Vice-President.
Okay, so from now on, we don’t refer to her as a “hockey mom”, we refer to her as a “hockey puck”. That’s just what this election cycle needed – Don Rickles.

OMG, that’s awesome. It’s such a shame that the MSM is in the bag for the Republicans. I’m quite sure that picture didn’t end up in many newspapers or on many news websites. But they always over estimate the crowds at Palin events. I wonder what the polling would be like if the MSM wasn’t in the bag for the Republicans?
Oh, I read somewhere yesterday that many of the big wigs in the Republican party are recommending they use their money (separate from McCain’s public financing) not to try to pull this out of the gutter for McCain but to try to save some of the Senatorial and House seats they are now set to lose. I think it’s way too late for that, but, hey, let them do it.

That saying doesn’t really apply in politics. It applies to those who wish to gain exposure and fame, but don’t mind notoriety. Bad publicity can certainly hurt a politician running for office.
It would be awfully surprising if SNL doesn’t find at least one way to make her look foolish. Sure, she’ll get points for being a “good sport”, but it’s the foolish part that will stick in their minds as they fill out the ballot.

October 11th, 2008 at 10:35 pmThe names that Osarah bin Palin gives her kids are so much like the ones the hillbilly guy in the Simpsons gave his kids…

What an amazing picture…. lol.
But it might be a preemptive strike on that little boy telling him to keep back… The Palins don’t need another pregnant female.
(yeah, yeah, I know 7 year olds can’t get pregnant… it was a joke)
October 11th, 2008 at 10:41 pmAnd who’s the old gal looking so proud at little Piper’s flippin the bird- Grandma? My mom and M-I-L would have been smacking my kid upside the head for that and I would have told them to.

October 11th, 2008 at 10:48 pmDid they fake the sneer? You’re right, I don’t want to be as nasty as they are, but it wasn’t too far off an idea that I wouldn’t have believed it from Palin’s brood. But that has nothing to do with politics and Piper is just a child being used by her mother for political reasons. My apologies for dissing the child.
October 11th, 2008 at 10:54 pmWell I don’t know that its a “hoax”. If you zoom into the

October 11th, 2008 at 11:04 pmYeah, Mom. Put your daughter in a home town uniform to shield you from the crowd.
What kind of a mucking fom would do that? Using your daughter as a human mockery shield.
Those poor kids.
October 11th, 2008 at 11:07 pmdetepe is right, let’s leave the child out of it. Poor baby’s got enough to worry about with her freaky religious nutjob mom trotting her out in public all the time. (Though I thought the second photo was fuzzier as well it doesn’t matter.) The bigger picture is really her mother using the kids for shameful political purposes.
October 11th, 2008 at 11:07 pmOh lurker, wishing it just won’t make it so.
October 11th, 2008 at 11:08 pmis the coat a hoax too? jeeziz…

October 11th, 2008 at 11:12 pmSo, Piper is a mutant. Five fingers and an opposed thumb on her right hand. Also, her first finger is the same length as her index finger in the second pix.

October 11th, 2008 at 11:14 pmGary, you’re right in that there are so many more important things to bring up concerning McIIIrd and his hockeymomwannabeveep.
October 11th, 2008 at 11:16 pmBut occasionally watching her get her just desserts after the nasty crap she’s been spouting seems karmatic to me.
Gary Herstein Says:I am not saying that I am above it. I am only asking if it really serves progressive purposes to do it.
Nah, it doesn’t serve progressive purposes, it’s just fun. The bigger issue is that Moose Lips deliberately hides behind her little girl.

Yeah it’s a fake.
But I’m curious… what the heck is that V for Victory sign she’s giving (in the real pic) with such an angry face? Does that mean something special nowadays? Is that some kind of gang salute, or what’s the deal?
October 11th, 2008 at 11:19 pmI find it absolutely astounding that Palin brought her 7 year old daughter out with her knowing that the crowd was likely to boo her (Palin). Let me rephrase, I can’t imagine her using her 7 year old daughter as a shield against a likely bad reception. Great motherly instincts – way to go, Sarah.

October 11th, 2008 at 11:25 pmI doubt that she had any inkling she’d be booed. Remember, she thinks she’s the chosen one. Gotta wonder if the kids will ever recover from this experience.
October 11th, 2008 at 11:26 pmI think she was caught in the middle of the “I’m keepin’ an eye on you” jesture where you point to your own eyes then point to the other guy.

That could be it. Seems kind of weirdly arrogant for such a little kid to do, though.
I was kidding about the gang sign, btw. But it does look weird, so I was just curious. She might be asking an off-camera vendor for two hotdogs, for all I know.

I didn’t hear anyone call her a terrorist.
I saw the man in the background doing the double thumbs down gesture. The music was too loud to hear boos.

October 12th, 2008 at 1:21 amYes but the average hockey fan in Philadelphia is a fey, latte-sipping, Prius-driving elitist with flowers in his hair and always saying, “peace, man.” In fact, Flyers is actually short for Flower Children, and the team has always had a reputation for good sportsmanship and fair play and values winning the beloved Lady Byng trophy above all.
October 12th, 2008 at 1:41 amDamn. It’s ain’t a good year for the PTA mom.
October 12th, 2008 at 1:54 amOk I am going to drop the puck in front of the people who booed Santa I bet if I bring my daughter dress her up in Flyers gear they won’t boo me. Woman if you would have had Dick Vermeil, Julius Irving and the ghost of Norm Van Brocklin with you they would have booed your ass.
October 12th, 2008 at 1:56 amRoosters are doing what?
October 12th, 2008 at 2:21 amOkay. She established her “hockey” credentials. But I don’t know how she scored as a “mom”, bringing her daughter as a prop to hockey game.
October 12th, 2008 at 2:23 amYeah maybe it’s was completely without political calculation that Palin brought her out on to the rink. But it was pretty well telegraphed in advance that she was going to get booed.
Politicians are routinely booed at sporting events. She and the campaign knew it was coming. So did they send her daughter out despite the impending boos or because of them?
they’re weren’t booing.
they were yelling
“bruce! bruce!”

October 12th, 2008 at 2:42 amFox News edited the tape, cutting out the parts where the boos were loudest, and adjusting the sound to mitigate the boos in the rest of it. This just two days after they broadcast a segment where Palin’s campaign was complaining about an unretouched photo of her on the cover of Newsweek.

October 12th, 2008 at 5:57 amIt should be apparent by her repeated stump speeches, that she’s the “horse-hockey” mom.
October 12th, 2008 at 5:59 amAhhh…proud to be from Philly today!!!
October 12th, 2008 at 7:44 amWell, it’s official.
Good day, all!

How dare you hide like a coward behind your daughter.
How dare you use your children for political gain while attacking those who point out the hypocrisy of your party’s stance on teen pregancy and the state of our society.
How dare you think you are the right choice for anything, much less Vice-President.
How dare you, Ms. “hockey-mom”, how dare you…
October 12th, 2008 at 10:08 amOkay, so from now on, we don’t refer to her as a “hockey mom”, we refer to her as a “hockey puck”.
