Palin says McCain will end ‘abuses of power’ in Washington.

On Saturday, one day after Gov. Sarah Palin was cited by an official state investigation for unethically and unlawfully abusing her power, Sen. John McCain said he would end “abuses [of power]” in Washington as president. In another bout of irony, Palin today echoed McCain:

See as a senator, John has confronted the corrupt ways of Washington. And the wasteful spending. And the abuses of power. As president, he’s going to end those once and for all.

Watch it:

From the Troopergate report:

For the reasons explained in section IV of this report, I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 2952.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act.

Palin says McCain will end ‘abuses of power’ in Washington.

    – - So, McCain is gonna “end” Palin?

Yeah, you can take that several ways.

  2. Buckie Boy says:

And the abuses of power. As president, he’s going to end those once and for all.

….So you’re not going to be VP anymore?

And to end corruption and abuses of power, McSame would also have to resign.

  3. Sahu says:

What the hell kind of orwellian, 2+2=5, fantasy world are McWars and Bible Spice living in? I mean, for crying out loud, do they not realize that they now hold the dubious distinction of being the 1st presidential ticket in history in which both members have been cited (on a bipartisan basis, no less) for ethics violations before the election?

  4. Shayne says:

“My friends, my running mate and I are experts at abuse of power. We know how to do abuse of power. Senator Obama doesn’t have any experience at abuse of power.”

  5. shoeless says:

Sen. John McCain said he would end “abuses [of power]” by disbanding the Republican party.

    Reality, meet Sarah Palin

    Sarah Palin, meet reality.

You two really need to talk…..

  7. Daddy-O says:

They’re both saying McCain is going to end the greed and corruption on Wall Street.

I like that quote. It has ponies and everything!

And all this time I thought that Republicans claimed that greed was what DROVE that precious ‘free market’…

  8. RUCerious says:

Is she dropping out of the race?

  9. jte says:

This is all aimed at the low-information propaganda sponges that make up her base. She knows they won’t actually look at the Troopergate report and assume that MSM factchecking is in fact a vindication for poor Sarah. If Jake Tapper or the NYT says she abused power, the opposite must be true. Remember the First Rule of the Society of Wingnuttia: “To be right in everything, we ought always to hold that the white which I see, is black, if Rush Limbaugh or James Dobson so decide it…”

  10. lurker says:

    Scarah said:
“See as a senator, John has confronted the corrupt ways of Washington. And the wasteful spending…”

He may have “confronted” them, but was ineffective at
    stopping them.

  11. freeman says:

No no your all missing the point here !
Sarah and John mc Keating are here to end the real abuses of power in washington by eliminating both government regulation of their sponsors and the middle class .

  12. stewarjt says:

And to end abuses of power, you have to know how to abuse power. Both McBane and Palin know how to do that! Please see the Keating Five and troopergate for a refresher.

  13. tarazan says:

I heard Sarah talking this morning..
She started by bringing up the military record of McCain and how he served his country in the war, how he was captured and suffered as POW..and how he is a fighter..
Then she moved quickly after that to citicise Obama’s camp for bringing the past and not focusing on the future.
    It was laughable…
So to Sarah ,bring the past to help McCain, but don’t mention Bush and Republican’s record of the last 8 years….!!

  14. spencers mom says:

What a pitiful little person Palin has become. Back to Alaska you go, Sarah, to face some serious music.

Political career funeral durge, I’m thinking.

  15. Tweedster says:

    This woman is absurd!

If there was any ever concern that Cindy would relapse back to her pill-poppin’ ways, this campaign has surely pushed her over the edge.

What a trainwreck these liars have created!

  16. Bobwurst says:

“Ole Johnny McMaverick is gonna stick it to those washington characters, you bethca! And he knows where they all live, don’t cha know, cuz he’s been to their homes for cocktail parties and barbieques and such for years.” Why I bet he knows every lobbyist and their wives and children and even their dogs, so don’t you worry none, no siree, ole johnny Mcmaverick on on the job!

  17. larkohio says:

OMG! Does she realize the irony of her comment? Is she so dense that she does not get it? I don’t think McCain did himself or her any favors in selecting her. Can you imagine her as President? No, I didn’t think you could. What a disaster.

  18. A Patriot Acting says:

How do John McCain and Sarah Palin propose ending abuse of power in the White House? Are they promissing to go cold turkey?

    Apparently not.

Palin get’s her news from a Starbucks cup and the Keating 5 Scandal and her Trooperate report haven’t been printed yet. Once Starbucks prints that information Sarah will know that news.

  23. ralph the wonder llama says:

I think it’s a requirement to be a Republican to have irony-deficient blood.

  24. Who Lied Today? says:

See as a senator, John has confronted the corrupt ways of Washington. And the wasteful spending. And the abuses of power. As president, he’s going to end those once and for all.

So, he’s going to stop confronting the corrupt ways of Washington? And stop confronting the wasteful spending?

  25. upside99 says:

    Unka Ho,

But it looks like we have finally got him off here. haven’t seen any crap for a few days.

  26. Bob says:

That report from Alaska that says Palin violated ethics law should be front and center all week, and yet I haven’t come across the story at all today.

This is yet another example of the idea of a liberal media bias being wrong, yet another example of the media way skewed toward republicans. If Biden had gotten such a report issued right before the weekend, wouldn’t everyone be running with it? How many ethics violations have Obama and Biden been found guilty of?

  27. Uncle Ho says:

To think that a Republican will end ‘abuses of power’ is like asking a skunk to quit smelling like a skunk.

    IT AIN’T GONNA HAPPEN!

  28. Uncle Ho says:

upside; I’ve been off the threads for the weekend and up til now, very busy.

There was actually a delay of over a second between the Snowbilly’s incredible display of cognitive dissonance and the obligatory cheer. Not sure if the crowd was dozing or actually had a “did she just say that” moment. Egad. Cindy must be supplying the vicodin for the entire campaign entourage.

  31. Anonymouse says:

This was easily predicted. It’s the classic Rove strategy — attack your opponent on your own greatest weaknesses.

Next thing, I’ll bet she attacks Obama for being menopausal (or incontinent).

  32. Wayne says:

Palin says McCain will end ‘abuses of power’ in Washington.

And while he is at it, he will ban all lobbyists, balance the budget on his nose and stop everyone from cheating on their spouses.

Have some cotton candy, balloons and ride the pony while you are here.

  33. RUCerious says:

Well, Wayne, on the cheating on the spouse thing, he’s got that down cold…

  34. impeachcheneythenbush says:

I suspect her definition of “abuse of power,” is either or both of Congressional oversight over the Executive Branch or judicial decisions (Supreme or otherwise) that are counter to decisions made by the Executive Branch. McCain will pander to the far right in order to get elected, but she would willingly carry out these extreme and radical ideas…because she is a true believer in maximum power by the Executive, including up to a dictatorship. I have no doubt about this woman’s absolute disregard for the U.S. Constitution and the basic principles upon which this country was founded. If the Alaska Independence Party favored overthrowing the U.S. government, I guess she believes she’s found an avenue to do it within that very form of government.

  35. DRxJ says:

To paraphrase a great line from “Grumpier Old Men”:

I’d like to know what part of Never Neverland you’re from, so if ever I need a break from reality, I’ll make sure to come visit.

  36. Bob says:

If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. John knows how to fix everything and end corruption and end abuse of power and his running mate knows more about energy than anyone in the world. There is no ‘probably’ about it.

  37. MapleStreet says:

    Guys, Guys, Guys,

In your criticism of Palin’s abuses of power in Alaska, you are looking to the past. Don’t we want someone who looks to the future.

  38. SP Biloxi says:

Palin doesn’t get the word “abuse of power.” After all Betty Boop Palin gets her news and information from a Starbucks cup.

  39. tom says:

Slightly off-topic, here is the text of the latest Unstable/Unable fund request email. They are really going after Obama and ACORN and raising the vote fraud boogey-man:

    Dear Supporter,

We’re coming down to the final stretch of the campaign. Each day leading up to November 4th plays a critical role in securing a Victory for our team of reformers. And I’ll get straight to my point – if we’re going to win we need your immediate support.

Will you join the McCain-Palin Victory 2008 team today during these critical final days?

The Obama-Biden Democrats and their liberal, allied interest groups are spending more than $1 billion to defeat our ticket in critical races across the country. They’re flooding the airwaves and stuffing mailboxes with misleading information, and in some cases flat out lies about us.

The truth is that far-left groups in this country will do anything to help the Obama-Biden Democrats win the White House and maintain their majorities in Congress. And last week, we found out they’re going even further to win.

The left-wing activist group, ACORN, is now under investigation for voter registration fraud in a number of battleground states. ACORN’s political action committee has endorsed Barack Obama and Senator Obama himself has said, “I have been fighting alongside ACORN on issues you care about my entire career.” The Obama Campaign even paid more than $800,000 to an ACORN affiliate for “get out the vote activity.” And now we find out that ACORN is suspected of voter registration fraud.

But, the Obama-Biden Democrats would rather sweep these facts under the rug and use their mainstream media allies to bury this story. But we can’t let that happen. We can’t allow leftist groups like ACORN to steal this election.

That’s why McCain-Palin Victory 2008 has set out to ensure a fair election and I’m asking you to join us today. Will you follow this link immediately to give $25, $50, $100, $250, $500, $1,000 or more to our effort?

McCain-Palin Victory 2008 helps fund our get-out-the-vote efforts in states across the country. We’re working day and night to ensure this election is fair and we’re working to elect the ticket that has a record of reform leadership.

Our team of reformers is ready to lead. We’re ready to tackle issues affecting your family. But we’ll get never get there without your support. Will you join our team in the final stretch before Election Day? With your help, I know we’ll ensure this election is conducted in a fair manner. Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    Governor Sarah Palin

P.S. We’ve always known the Obama-Biden Democrats will do anything to win this November, but we didn’t know how far their allies would go. The Obama-supported, far-left group, ACORN, has been accused of voter registration fraud in a number of battleground states. Our team, through McCain-Palin Victory 2008 is working to ensure that this election is conducted fairly. With your immediate financial support, we’ll be successful. Please join our team for a fair election today. Thank you.

    ————————————————————–

Because the McCain-Palin Campaign is participating in the presidential public funding system, it may not receive contributions for any candidate’s election. However, federal law allows the McCain-Palin Campaign’s Compliance Fund to defray legal and accounting compliance costs and preserve the Campaign’s public grant for media, mail, phones, and get-out-the-vote programs. Contributions to McCain-Palin Victory 2008 will go to the Compliance Fund, and to participating party committees for Victory 2008 programs.

I think your credibility suffers when you make a big show about doing away with earmarks and then name the Earmark Queen to your ticket.

I think your credibility suffers when you claim you’re going to end the abuses of power in Washington and your running mate is being found culpable in abuse of power at that very moment.

I think your credibility suffers when you claim to be a maverick, yet morph every one of your positions to match the current status quo.

I think your credibility suffers when you accuse your opponent of “palling around” with enemies of America while you’re doing palling around of your own with special interest lobbyists, people who were responsible for the S&L crisis, and people who actively want to secede from this country.

McCain and Palin have run out of credibility. All they have left is the choir they preach to.
