Record 90 percent of voters say country is seriously off track.

According to a new ABC poll, 90 percent of registered voters say the country is going in the wrong direction. Only 23 percent approve of President Bush:

Given the global economic crisis, a record 90 percent of registered voters say the country is seriously off on the wrong track, the most since this question first was asked in 1973. At 23 percent, Bush’s job approval rating has fallen below Nixon’s lowest; it’s a point away from the lowest in 70 years of polling, set by Harry Truman in early 1952. Bush’s disapproval, meanwhile, is at an all-time record — 73 percent. … Reflecting these economic worries, just 44 percent of Americans are confident they’ll have enough money to carry them through retirement.

In August, a USA Today/Gallup poll found that 80 percent of the electorate said the country is headed in the wrong direction.

90% say the country is going in the wrong direction, yet only 73% disapprove of Bush. Now we know the number of complete dumbasses in this country is 17%.

  5. superid says:

And the 10% are at the McPalin rallies.

  6. Tired of being lied to says:

If our country is akin to a train, and the train is off the track, and 90% of the people think so, then why do 41% of the same people think a new conductor who agreed with the old conductor 90% of the time will ever get us back on the right track?

We need a new conductor. Not a remake of the old conductor with fresh overalls and gray hair.

  7. DRxJ says:

Now, the question to ask is, of those 90% who feel this country is heading in the wrong direction, how many will still vote for McSame because the other candidate is a socialist. An elitist socialist at that?

Or, how many refuse to break from the (R) party affiliation, even though 4 more years means “heading down the same path of deterioration, destruction, and debt”?

  8. DvlsAdvocat says:

There are some dumb people in America….how can Bush’s approval rating still be at 23%…? Mind boggling.

Even assuming that every one of the 10% who believe this country isn’t going in the wrong direction is a Bush supporter, this still leaves 13% who support Bush but believe the country is seriously off track.

Who are they blaming? Oh, right. That razor-thin majority of Dems in Congress are to blame for all our ills and Bush is doing the best he can despite those evil liberals.

Hey, John, Perhaps you could tell us precisely on what page of the PDF with the poll information that indicates that 400 of the 600 polled were Democrats? (actually, it was 1,101 at selected at random that were polled). The poll, however, did seem to indicate a “flight” from the Republican party. And as Bush “bringing up the DOW,” I give a good deal more credit to the Europeans who led with direct capital infusion with equity as payment, and that the Bush administration has only accepted reluctantly since their first (as usual “free-market solutions) obviously were not increasing confidence….the real driver of economics today. You are completely deluded.

  42. Jim Wolf359 says:

Even I know the futility of trying to reason with someone who’s hopped up on hallucinogens, but it’s a slow afternoon.

First, you allege that two thirds of the people polled are Democrats. These appear to be numbers you just pulled out of your butt, because ABC polled 1,101 people, not 600. They polled more Democrats than Republicans because there ARE more Democrats than there are Republicans, and their poll sampling is designed to be proportional to the general population. I can find no evidence anywhere in their full report that their sample of Democrats made up two thirds of all polled.

Second, you credit Bush with the stock market rally today. If Bush was capable of doing this all by himself, why didn’t he do it earlier? Why is it that after he addressed the nation, the market plummeted further? Why is it that even after his bailout package was approved, it still went down? Most conventional wisdom points to the meetings this past weekend of the G-7 with today’s rise — and the same conventional wisdom cautions that we may not be out of the woods yet.

Third — will you grace us with your presence on November 5? You’ve been showing more cowardice than usual lately — drive-by posting instead of hanging around — so I doubt we’ll hear a peep from you after Election Day.

This little old lady actually believes what she’s been told and is truly scared. She has been so flooded with lies she terrified that the US will be taken over by terrorists, that her and her families lives will be at risk, and that America will cease to exist.

I’m sure she loves and believes ,whether they be family, friends, radio and tv personalities or politicians, these horror stories they tell her. There are thousands just like them who are tricked into a state of fear. That is truly abuse and that’s shameful.

Fear has been used to manipulate the American people on many issues, with Iraq and the Patriot Act being among the most notable. Reactionary right wing radio and FOX news have participated with the government and corporate interests in getting a message out benefiting them, without regard to what’s best for the United States.

    This is what propaganda is.

    It’s illegal in this country.

It’s also why Rush, Sean and the rest of hate radio and FOX news are guilty of crimes against the American people along with complacency in war crimes.

Honestly, this had everything to do with the economy melting down and nothing to do with tactics of either man. Hell, McCain is getting booed at his own rallies by his own supporters for not being mean enough.

A month ago gas prices and Iraq were going to decide the election and McCain was up. Now…pure economy. And the worst thing is, no matter who wins I see no cavalry riding to the rescue on that one.

  58. pete says:

The GOP has held the White House for 20 of the last 28 years. They have had a majority in the House and/or Senate for 22 of those years. Add a dollop of control of the Supreme Court and one is left with the inescapable conclusion that the GOP has driven policy for most of the last three decades.

Oddly enough, many of the best times our country has enjoyed in those decades occurred when the GOP held one or less of the “big three”. And the GOP is squarely to blame for, arguably, the biggest blunders in U.S. history. No internal force has damaged our country so much since the Civil War.

Politics, philosophy, and ideology need not be considered. The horrendous results of the GOP, combined with the blind faith adherence to failed policy, disqualifies them from serious consideration as “leaders”.

And until such time as the keynote speaker at their National Convention says, “we’re sorry about the Bush Administration, the guilty have been purged and it won’t happen again” they are worthy of nothing but our contempt and derision.

Dubya inherited it at 10,700. Do the math, John Kerry.

These trillions of dollars for the wars and for the finanacial bailouts—–we do not have this money. It is just piled onto a mountain of debt that can only be paid off by raising taxes. And the Repubs say we can never do that!

I can only presume that a significant majority of these same people get their “news” from CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, PMSNBC ad nauseum. Garbage in – garbage out, as they say.

Here’s a newsflash for you doom and gloomers – the U.S. ECONOMY was doing pretty good up until the recent financial crisis. Remember, the economy and the financial sector, while linked are NOT the same thing.

You ought to be asking yourselves this: Who benefits politically at this particular moment in history if the economy tanks?

Obama is actually about to gget his third strike, then he’s OUTTA there! Her’s how it may go for him:

STRIKE 1 – Obama railed against the war in Iraq and eclared the surge could not work. He was counting on the U.S. to fail and fail miserably, then he could coast to victory in November. TOO BAD! this didn’t come to pass as we all know.

STRIKE 2 – Obama was more than happy to see the surge in gasoline prices work! His only regret was that it HAPPENED TOO FAST! He and his allies cried hallelujah, because the increases looked like they would go on forever! People would be mad and blame the Republicans, and Obama could cruise to victory. NOT! How’s that workin for ya, Obama?

STRIKE 3 – The stock market would not start recovering from it’s worst week in history for months and certainly AFTER Nov. 4th! After two disappointing swings of the bat, here was the home run just sailing across home plate! It’s, it’s… Ah Nooooo, the stock market had it’s biggest one day gain in HISTORY today. The polls are starting to tighten again!

    He’s outta there!

  68. Keith says:

    Tim Vacuous,
If you could comprehend this study, you could realize that 90% of Americans think you are wrong. That puts you in the lunatic fringe.

Here’s a newsflash for you doom and gloomers – the U.S. ECONOMY was doing pretty good up until the recent financial crisis.

22 million jobs created under Clinton. 4 million created under Bush. Middle class wages have dropped the past eight years when adjusted for inflation. First time that has happened since the Great Depression. Clinton did it while going from record deficits to record surpluses. Dubya did it while going from record surpluses to new record deficits.

Nobel-winning economist Krugman was warning about a coming financial crisis for at least two years. It was caused by conservative de-regulation.

    (via Sadly, No!)

“While all the polls suggest that Obama could win the election, I’ve interviewed several GOP operatives who shockingly say that he’s going to lose big-time.”

Karl Rove resigned from the Bush administration for a reason…to go undercover before this presidential election, keeping his extensive travels off the public records, while he scurries around our nation in the shadows, working on “the math,” which is Republican “code” for trying to steal another election, by whatever means possible.

Which means that if Rove’s “math” involves gaming the electoral college in some way, disenfranchising enough Democratic Party-leaning voters and “fixing” enough electronic voting machines, then McCain and Palin will win by a landslide…and civil war will break out in America the day after the election in November…especially if Obama and Biden enter election day with a commanding lead in the polls…and if exit polling indicates that they won handily.

Which may explain why the Bush/Cheney administration has been putting a police state in place, in preparation for the outrage of American citizens at so blatant a stealing of the White House occurring.

Hopefully, I’m wrong, but since Karl Rove and so many other “non-reality based community” Republicans are certifiably insane, I wouldn’t put anything past these corrupt, anti-American election stealers and neo-fascist police state pushers.

  71. Keith says:

wizard, if that happens, they wil say it was due to “the Bradley effect”. They are already talking this up. I believe that the opposite might be true: a lot of conservative rednecks who would never admit to voting for an African-American might vote for Obama because the Democrats are so obviously better on the economy.

Elections were stolen in 2000, ‘02, ‘04, and ‘06 (knocked down from a 11% margin to a 7% margin). I’m sure it will be attempted again.

There STILL isnt much political legitimacy in Iraq and they are just holding till we leave. Your delusions do not define reality. Strike ONE

Let ME do that I think YOU post as a conservative because you HATE America and want to see it destroyed economically. Wow thats easy just pick a motive out of thin air and claim its yours let me try again I think you hate Obama because you are a homosexual that has a crush on McThusela having a THING for older men. Yeah its stupid and worthless just like YOUR stupid worthless jibe. Stike TWO

The stock market went up because of the bailout that Obama voted for and that is a bad thing for Obama because you are a moron and just said it is. No one wants this financial crisis to go on any longer than it has to. Again you just assign a venal motive to Obama because you are too stupid to make an ACTUAL argument or because this is what you were instruted to say by those who pay you to troll here or because it is in the interest of your masters from Zeta Reticuli its all so stupid pretty much like YOU. Strike three I would say you are out of here but you were never in the reality based universe to begin with so its more like you are STILL out of here.

    Tim Vaculik Says:

Keith,,Wake up! The only people trying to swing the election are Democrats, specifically ACORN and it’s blatant attempts at voter fraud.

Unlike the unfounded and bogus accusations you throw out, ACORN is actually under criminal investigation in a number of states as we speak.
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Ya just spew out the stupidity no matter WHAT the facts are dont ya Timmeh nutsack? I guess an ignorant hivemind moron like you has to do what an ignorant hivemind moron like you has to do.

Hey EugeneDebs-come play on the top link, that’s where everyone else seems to be and you’re a lot of fun and everyone else seems to be in bed now :)

  79. DaTruth says:

We’re paying a horrendous price for allowing the idiot’s rise to power. Bush turned out to be way too costly for America. We simply can’t afford the luxury of letting a despot run this country. As we speak this country is teetering on the edge of fascism.

A ruler that rises to power by stealing elections and denying voters their right to vote is a failed ruler. 8yrs of failure have been hard to endure.

  80. the Lone Voice of Reason says:

The GOP has taken a step backwards (or a back flip) to the racist mindset of the fifties, DaTruth, that is, if they were ever out of that infantile stage. I think it started with the McCarthy-ist phrase “If you’re not with us you’re with the terrorists”.

I wish you guys would go to the Kristol link-I’m skipping back and forth a lot here and pretty soon I’ve got to get to bed.

    Tim Vaculik Says:

the repubs attacking acorn is like mccain and palin saying they are going to clean up corruption.

the guilty ones going after someone else, anyone they can blame for it.

  82. the Lone Voice of Reason says:

McDepends and Moose Lips saying they are going to clean up corruption–who says Repugs can’t make a joke ;)

  83. Keith says:

    T.V.,
Apparently there has been some ficticious registrations turned in by some working for ACORN—because workers get paid by how many new registrations they turn in. But ficticious people DO NOT VOTE. Mary Poppins does not vote.

US Attorney David Iglesias was fired for not prosecuting a crime that did not exist. Greg Palast asked for info on fradulent voting in New Mexico. He was given only six names and all six were legal voters.

  84. Tim Vaculik says:

    EugeneDebs,

Only someone totally divorced from reality would say that the surge in Iraq didn’t work! What an astoundingly ignorant statement.

You’re gonna have to come to table with a better argument than that!

  85. Tim Vaculik says:

    EugeneDebs,

I guess you don’t care how pathetic you look trying to counter a well-made argument with gutter talk.

    Get a life.
