Anchorage Daily News: Palin’s response to Troopergate report is ‘downright Orwellian.’

palin434.jpg Over the weekend, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) reacted to the Troopergate report by claiming that she did “nothing unlawful or unethical.” “I’m very very pleased to be cleared of any legal wrongdoing…any hint of any kind of unethical activity there,” Palin said on Saturday. Today, Palin’s home state paper, the Anchorage Daily News, calls out her lie:

Sarah Palin’s reaction to the Legislature’s Troopergate report is an embarrassment to Alaskans and the nation. … Her response is either astoundingly ignorant or downright Orwellian.

Page 8, Finding Number One of the report says: “I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act.”

In plain English, she did something “unlawful.” She broke the state ethics law. [...]

Palin’s response is the kind of political “big lie” that George Orwell warned against. War is peace. Black is white. Up is down.

Sarah Palin = Ah snap, Liar.

  2. raynman says:

She might be able to see Russia from her office, but we now know that she can’t see the truth from anywhere.

  3. Zimzone says:

It’s time to start field dressing Republicans, not Moose.

Does America need another liar in the White House?

Or, as Bush would say, ethics is just another four letter word…

  4. Abu Ben Hussein Leporello says:

Will someone Please tell this woman that a lie remains a lie, no matter how many time it’s told? Keeping George Orwell in mind, here’s a pertinent quote of his:
In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.
Impeach Pelosi, Cheney and Bush (While there’s Still Time) and Save the Constitution!

  5. Tahut says:

The real big question is … what are the Alaskan’s gonna do about her? So far, all I’ve heard is she’s going skating when she returns.

  6. A Patriot Acting says:

I think Sarah Palin’s political aspirations are in for a world of hurt when she slinks back to Alaska after a resounding defeat November 4th! The GOP touted her as the future of their Party when she was first introduced to the world, hoping that if McStinky loses that they have someone for 2012. After realizing that she is more transparent than a pane of glass the world has given a resounding, “Thanks but no thanks” to the Saraccuda! All that’s left is for the good people of Alaska to impeach their ethically challenged Governor. After she reimburses the state for all those nights spent at home that the tax payers paid for of course.

    Or both…

  8. Kass says:

I wonder if this is one of the MANY papers she reads. If so, I bet she won’t anymore. On account of liberal bias, of course.

  9. rastaman says:

    WELCOME TO AMERICA ALASKA.

WE’VE LIVED WITH IT FOR 8 YEARS NOW

  10. Fritz says:

It’s the usual republican trick that has worked so well the last eight years – repeat a lie, any lie, enough times and a large percentage of voters will eventually believe the lie. It seems that the more bald-faced the lie is, the more successful the tactic is.

  11. Abu Ben Hussein Leporello says:

Yet another Pertinent quote, this one’s from Franklin D. Roosevelt:
Repetition does not tranform a lien into a truth.
    Impeach, while there’s Still Time!

  12. unbelievable says:

There’s just something mentally off there.

Something in her blank, vapid stare while she utters her gibberish and lies that truly is alarming.

I think even Sarah Palin would have frightened George Orwell. At least his 1984 characters were mostly fictious.

  13. paleolib says:

Anybody foolish enough to vote for Palin for governor probably alas does not know what “Orwellian” means.
Good thing the ADN offered “ignorant” as an alternative although as a three syllable word that probably still brands the paper as part of the “liberal media”.

  14. misshusseinmolly says:

Sarah Palin somehow felt that by issuing her own “report” of her innocence, it would trump the official report of the investigation. She believed that people would take her at her word and not do any digging for themselves.

In other words, she thinks people are stupid. Unfortunately, she’s right about quite a few of them. But that number may be shrinking. I have yet to see a troll come in here and cite Sarah’s “report” as evidence to debunk the official Troopergate report.

  15. Badmoodman says:

“I’m very very pleased to be cleared of any legal wrongdoing…any hint of any kind of unethical activity there,” Palin said.

Palin attorney Thomas Van Flein said Monday that Branchflower’s conclusion that Palin had violated state ethics law was wrong, because no financial interest was involved.

    WTF?

  16. Tweedster says:

Anybody foolish enough to vote for Palin for governor probably alas does not know what “Orwellian” means.

I doubt she does either. Although after attending 6 colleges, she may have had a couple of attempts at reading 1984.

  17. spencers mom says:

Now that the rest of the country has fully vetted Alaska’s governor, it is doubtful that she will see the end of her term before she sees impeachment.

Just a few weeks ago, the GOP pundits were proclaiming Princess Wasilla as the future face of the Republican party. If by that they mean elected officials facing myriad criminal charges, I guess I’d have to agree.

    PEACE

Is ‘The Sarahorrist’ using Orwellian ‘newspeak’?

    I don’t think so.

It sounds more like trailer trash talk there, don’tchaknow…

  22. CageyCretin says:

Her campaign already investigated the incident in question and reported it was all “okey dokey”. Well, gosh darn it, who knows her better than her own pr people? This was the prepared speech that they had for when the report came out. She has not actually read the report herself (she shied away from responding to that very question (”Have you read it?” from a reporter).

Would Sarah Palin ever lie to the public?

    You betcha!

  23. CageyCretin says:

Gawd told Sarah that she did not break any laws. She is just passing along the Good News!

I suspect that the McCain campaign can’t afford to pay them anymore. Either that, or they’ve just run out of ammunition. Or maybe a combination of both.

I even went to Trajan’s pathetic excuse of a website to see if he was still at it. He isn’t. He managed a post yesterday that said, “I haven’t posted recently due to various reasons. Think Progress really bores me and just atatcks (sic) everyday. Why bother with those clowns.” And this was his first post since September 18th. Looks like he’s thrown in the towel.

  28. RUCerious says:

Can I get a pair of those glasses too?

They are just amazing! You get to see everything through this prism of invincibility that doesn’t really exist.

I can screw up at work, and go tell my boss that everything is A-OK, that database works just fine. No, there’s no data in it, nobody can access it, but it’s fine! Wow!

    That’ll really work…

  29. RUCerious says:

Tweedster, methinks the McIIIrd vouchers they were racking up for banging their heads against the TP screen were no longer being redeemed at McIIIrd HQ. No checkee, no blogee.

  30. RUCerious says:

Or, maybe she considers the entire state legislature a coven of witches and warlocks, and isn’t injured by them due to the spell her pastor protected her with>>>???

    Honestly,

Why SHOULD the “Blessed Sarah” see herself any differently than the myriad Christian right Republicans that she is surrounded & supported by who for 8 years have blown off Congressional subpoenas, refuse to testify and when they do, lie bold faced to the American people. There has never been a scrap of accountability for this bunch of jack-booted thugs. They laugh at the rule of law and they have gotten away with it.

Sarah is simply upholding the very BEST traditions of her party and her faith.

  34. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

Palin is in bigger trouble that the Troopergate scandal. Apparently the Personnel Board she thinks she can control has hired a Democrat as their investigator and they are widening the probe to include her house in Wasilla that Todd claims he and a friend built. Coincidentally it was built while Sarah was pushing through the sports center that ended up in putting Wasilla 20 million in debt. There is a rumor going around that the contractor who built the sports center also helped build her house, gratis. Sound like someone else in Alaska we know?

  35. dasm says:

I’d say Palin is more Notwellian.

  36. Kass says:

But gee gosh golly darn it, Sarah is just an average joe six pack hockey mom, and that gosh darn evil liberal media just don’t understand us common folks.

That’s what I love about Rachel Maddow. She is not afraid to call a lie a lie, like she did last night. I wish the remainder of the MSM would follow suit.

I read somewhere yesterday where one of the MSM said that she told “the opposite of the truth”. Now how dumb is that?

I saw that too MHM. I’m afraid to say it though…I kinda miss the little bugger. At least, I miss him being contained over there at that website there, sorta on display there for me to mess with there. That there Trajan there, you betcha, he was a lot of fun there (ok, really, I’m DONE with the Palin impression).

It’s funny how he’s made no mention of the fact that “The Great Enemy” known as Thinkprogress is still up and running while the great defenders of liberty and the “New Right” know as thinkprogresswatch haven’t had a new thread or comment in over a month.

  40. thinksforself says:

Palin appears to be one of those Christians who thinks the only laws she has to obey are God’s Laws. However “God’s Laws” are just laws she makes up as she goes along to suit her purposes. Ignorance and arrogance with a dash of religion – always a bad mix.

Looks like Sarah has learned well from the master.

  42. tarazan says:

Sarah is a governor, and she should have respected the findings, and if she objects to some of the findings, then she should go thru legal channels to remedy them.
But to deny findings conclusions and the work these people in her state did for months does not show a good character.
She should have said that I accept the findings, and let’s move on.
She is hurting herself politically now,and in the future.
Nothing is wrong about being stubborn,if one is right, but to be stubborn while being wrong is madness .
She is also showing disrespect to the public who read the findings and in total disageement with her.

  43. Barry De Jasu says:

As long as the media remains in the hands of the few, who are committed to the status right-winged quo, politicians of the right will be able to utter any lies they wish with little fear that they will be shown to be liars by the print and broadcast media. unfortunately most of the undecided and many others see only these media outlets at best.

  44. DaTruth says:

What was McCain thinking when he picked this cur to be his running mate?

It goes to show how dysfunctional the neocon mentality has become in these last 8 years.

  45. Zimzone says:

    DaTruth Says:
What was McCain thinking when he picked this cur to be his running mate?

I think KKKarl Rove picked the Sarahorrist. He expected to have her replace McFriends within a year and they would have another Bushie in office to ‘puppet as they please’.

Alas, KKKarl’s plan didn’t include a Wall St meltdown and ‘dumber than a stump’ recognition of both McCain & Palin.

  46. pbg says:

Just a bit OT, but it is officially too late to talk about impeaching Dubya, guys. The House has adjourned until January.

It would never have worked anyway, since the Democrat’s majority in the Senate was dependent on Joe Lieberman–and if W was impeached and not convicted, he would have been found innocent–and exonerated. I never understood the call myself.

But now it really is off the table. All that’s left is the landslide–and the criminal prosecutions of private citizens George W. Bush and Dick Cheney.

  47. Max-1 says:

    pdg,
    Impeachment comes from the House.
The Senate doesn’t have to take it up.
If the Senate doesn’t take impeachment up from the House, does that impeachment from the House stay on record?

eg, Clinton WAS impeached in the House and acquitted in the Senate, yet the House docket still stands as the official record. Funny how facts have weight… NO?

I don’t disagree about the Senate votes and LIARman. I just find it sad that America coulnd’t be exposed to the debate about how being lied to is principled, how manipulating evidence so as to initiate a war of aggression is morally ethical, how conspiring to commit torture and other crimes against humanity are redeeming qualities to the Office of the President of the U.S.A. Or how warrantless spying on Americans in contravention to the law is commendable or how exposing the identity of a covert agent isn’t TREASON!

    That’s all….

    .

  48. Max-1 says:

    .

    Palin = Falin’ LIAR!

  49. Ladona says:

In a desperate attempt to spin this mess, Palin is now claiming that the Troopergate investigation clears her of any wrongdoing, which it does not. The Branchflower (Troopergate) report found that she violated Alaska’s Executive Branch Ethics Law in firing Public Safety Commisioner Walter Monegan to settle a family vendetta. We can’t afford eight more years of another administration that abuses their power. Sign this petition urging Palin to stop the lies and walk the ethics reform talk by removing herself from the presidential ticket now: http://go.care2.com/17292327

  50. MrSquirrel says:

I suppose if you’re going to habitually tell lies, they may as well be big ones.

But try to at least tell good lies, Sarah. Try to tell lies that take more than five minutes to prove false. It’ll be more effective that way.
