Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) announced a new economic stimulus plan this morning that features a new round of tax cuts for millionaires. McCain campaign spokesperson Nancy Pfotenhauer was stumped this morning when asked how much those new tax cuts would cost and how McCain planned to pay for them. “Obviously…it’s going to cost some amount of money,” she said. Watch it:
The AP reports McCain’s plan would cost $52.5 billion.
We are all stumped Nancy. Dont worry, Stupid is what the McCain campaign is counting on.
October 14th, 2008 at 11:56 amThat’s the kind of financial planning that got us into our current mess. More of the same, McCain!
October 14th, 2008 at 11:59 amMore tax cuts for those who don’t really need them!
/sarcasm
October 14th, 2008 at 11:59 am“obviously”…
October 14th, 2008 at 11:59 amWell, it’s pretty obvious, isn’t it? McCain’s going to get that money from that Free Money From The Government guy.
October 14th, 2008 at 12:00 pmMcCain is going to need a bailout from Congress just to pay for his plan to bailout the economy….
October 14th, 2008 at 12:00 pmI liked Nancy’s Martian suit last week better.
October 14th, 2008 at 12:01 pmI think the millionaires need a break after the 8 years of Bush policies that kept them from their full potential. Geesh, what world is this guy living in ??? Planet of the paste eaters!!
October 14th, 2008 at 12:03 pmUh, guys, just a reminder, McCain does not speak for the McCain campaign.
snark
October 14th, 2008 at 12:04 pmWhat? Nancy forgot that the standard answer to ANY question having to do with how McCain plans to pay for tax cuts is “eliminate earmarks!”?
How could that have slipped her mind? Or maybe it’s that the public isn’t buying that crapola anymore?
October 14th, 2008 at 12:05 pmSoooo, the USA Government (don’t mind the other governments in the world for now), just put $750 billions, and this guy wants to cut the income of the Government? What about police, fire fighters, roads, VA, Social Security, Homeland Security, CIA, the war in Iraq and Afghanistan? What is the plan to finance all that spending? The tooth fairy? I fear McCain hasn’t (real) teeth left to pay for it.

October 14th, 2008 at 12:08 pmJust another libural media “gotcha” questin.
Is it just me, or are these McPain people always “stumped” when asked to explain their stated policy? I guess talking points don’t include expository information.
October 14th, 2008 at 12:10 pmMcCain campaign spokesperson Nancy Pfotenhauer was asked how much those new tax cuts would cost and how McCain planned to pay for them. “Obviously…it’s not going to cost McCain anything. You misunderstand. Under his plan, McCain doesn’t pay for the tax cuts, he receives the tax cuts.” she said.
October 14th, 2008 at 12:15 pm“Obviously…it’s going to cost some amount of money,” Nancy said. Then she continued to answer in her head, “But since the cuts are FOR millionares and mega-corporations, it won’t be their money spent to cover it, and we in the Republican party only consider their money relevant, so all the other people in the country will pay for it. Since they are poor and inconsequential it really won’t cost any money at all, at least not that concerns us. So we think it is a perfect solution. It won’t cost “us” a dime.”
October 14th, 2008 at 12:16 pmSorry for the O/T but this is too funny. FAUX News is aghast at what four protesters wore at a Palin appearance in Pennsylvania today. It seems they had green t-shirts on that said “Palin is a c@nt!”. Tammy Bruce and Martha MacCallum are downright flabbergasted by the audacity and blaming Obama (natch)and his campaign’s tone for what a few gutsy kids did at a Palin rally:

I know, linking to FOX made me feel a little dirty but it’s worth it for the sheer comedy of it all.
October 14th, 2008 at 12:17 pmTammy Bruce and Martha MacCallum…a couple of GOP water carrying hypocritical c@nts calling the kettle a scary black man! Keep chasing windmills FOX, just don’t dare look in a mirror.

I suspect that everybody on the McCain team thinks they’re entitled to “Palin Rules” now. Which means no follow-up questions. Just spew the talking point and move on.
October 14th, 2008 at 12:18 pm.
… Oh great, is McPalin gonna borrow it from Social Security?
.
October 14th, 2008 at 12:18 pmWell, the parts of his plan that will help the middle class are a direct rip off of Obama’s plan he released yesterday. The rest is just more give-aways to the very rich.
I love that they say that lowering the tax burden on the very rich will bring more money into the treasury. I’m not exactly sure how that will work. Can someone talk me down on that one?
October 14th, 2008 at 12:18 pm‘This is a time of crisis and it’s important that we lie through our teeth at this particular time so that we may attempt to save our drowning campaign.’
October 14th, 2008 at 12:24 pmThe wingnuts like to say “Tax and spend democrats”
October 14th, 2008 at 12:24 pmwhile their policy is “untax and spend”. No wonder we’re broke.
A Patriot Acting Says:
Sorry for the O/T …
They were paid by McCain. That’s HIS talking point on women. And although one was a woman, fox refered to this as a mysogynist act…. pardon me? Even absent the woman participating, explain that comment. Rude? Yes, but certainly not the level of a death threat (which is what they want to equate it to — there seems to be a LOT of, “Well, THEY do it too!!” whining from the repugs, even if they have to fabricate evidence to whine about).
October 14th, 2008 at 12:26 pmFormer basketball star and former republican, Charles Barkley said he wouldn’t mind paying more in taxes as should other rich people because they are “still going to be rich.”
October 14th, 2008 at 12:32 pmMy opinion is that if you are rich and put country first as McCain has labeled his campaign, then you need to shut up, pay up and help get this country and it’s people back on a more productive path. Giving away our money to selfish people that need it the least has the opposite affect of being destructive i.e., lower wages, lost jobs, lost pensions, lost homes, lower home values, lower productivity, decaying infrastructure, higher food costs, higher fuel costs, higher education costs, etc. All just so a tiny percentage of Americans can have it all and thumb their noses up at the rest of us. To Hell with them and to Hell with McCain!
The money could also come from Wachovia who just loaned the RNCC $8 million, some of which is probably going to the RNC which is dumping money into GOP Senate races and which will work it’s way into McCain’s election coffers because the FEC is useless and McCain already broke campaign finance laws once.
October 14th, 2008 at 12:39 pmWell, crap! Everybody knows that the Supply Side Money Fairy will bring a$ much a$ we need.
Wassamatter with you gloom-and-doomers?!?

October 14th, 2008 at 12:56 pmDarn liberal media and their “gotcha journalims”!
Don’t they know better than to ask questions? McCain should be treated with deference and his proposals should go unchallenged.

October 14th, 2008 at 1:00 pmMy friends, the oil in those dividends will pay for this, I’m certain of that.
October 14th, 2008 at 1:14 pmA typical REICH wing move to help the MOTHER!#*&#@* that got us where we are today.Mcwars is way out of touch on this as he is on all issues. He keeps forgetting about the other 95 percent of us when it comes to capital gains taxes and divedends and other taxes that are geared towards the top 5 percent of the wealthiest people.
October 14th, 2008 at 1:33 pmShe is such an idiot!
October 14th, 2008 at 2:43 pmI can’t believe she still has a job.
October 14th, 2008 at 7:59 pmLet’s see. Trillions of dollars lost in the stock market hitting people’s stock portfolios, 401ks and retirement funds. Billions of dollars in losses in the value of homes across the country. So where are the capital gains here? McCain’s plan to reduce capital gains only works if you have a capital gain. Impossible today for most Americans. But this works really well for the really rich people (top 5%).
McCain is so out of touch, it’s unbelievable! That’s why he proposed this capital gains tax reduction. Most Americans won’t benefit from it but people like himself will. Sounds more like Me First!, not Country First!
October 14th, 2008 at 9:12 pmPaul Krugman speaking of Bush administration Sept. 11, 2003:
“There is no economic policy. That’s really important to say. The general modus operandi of the Bushies is that they don’t make policies to deal with problems. They use problems to justify things they wanted to do anyway. So there is no policy to deal with the lack of jobs. There really isn’t even a policy to deal with terrorism. It’s all about how can we spin what’s happening out there to do what we want to do.
Now if you ask what do the people who keep pushing for one tax cut after another want to accomplish, the answer is they are basically aiming to create a fiscal crisis which will provide the environment in which they can basically eliminate the welfare state.”
October 14th, 2008 at 9:52 pmLet’s see. Trillions of dollars lost in the stock market hitting people’s stock portfolios, 401ks and retirement funds. Billions of dollars in losses in the value of homes across the country.
