Confirmed: McCain To Appear With Virginia GOP Chairman Who Compared Obama To Osama Bin Laden

Earlier this week, Time magazine’s Karen Tumulty reported on how Jeffrey Frederick, the chairman of the Virginia Republican party, gave GOP volunteers talking points on “the connection between Barack Obama and Osama bin Laden.” “Both have friends that bombed the Pentagon,” Frederick told 30 volunteers. “That is scary.”

Though McCain campaign spokesperson Gail Gitchoo told the Washington Post that “the McCain campaign disagrees with the comparison that Jeff Frederick made,” McCain himself refused to denounce Frederick’s comments. Asked by Virginia television station WSLS if Frederick’s comparison was “appropriate,” McCain said, “I have to look at the context of his remarks.” Watch it:

Frederick, for his part, is standing by his words. “It is just the hard facts,” he told the Washington Post. Despite Frederick’s outrageous comments, McCain is set to appear with him in Virginia on Saturday:

The McCain/Palin campaign announced today that Senator John McCain will visit Virginia once again this week. The Republican Presidential nominee will hold a campaign rally at the Prince William County Complex here in Woodbridge on Saturday, October 18th.

Prince William is the key to Senator McCain winning Virginia, and his visit here will only reinforce that Prince William is McCain country,” said Delegate Jeffrey M. Frederick, Chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia and a member of the Virginia General Assembly from Woodbridge.

Contacted by ThinkProgress today, the Virginia Republican Party said that Frederick is “expected to be there on Saturday.” During the debate last night, McCain said that “every time there’s been an out-of-bounds remark made by a Republican, no matter where they are, I have repudiated them.”

Instead of repudiating Frederick, McCain is set to appear with him.

Now didn’t McNasty say in last night’s debate that he has “repudiated every person who has said something nasty about Obama” (excepting himself, of course).

So that’s how he “reputes” people, campaigning with him.

Republicans – hypocrites one and all.

  2. ralph the wonder llama says:

I think McSame should keep pushing the “friends with terrorists” theme. Sooner or later, the American people will care about it, my friends.

Sooner or later. We just have to keep hammering it home, my friends.

  5. tom says:

McNumbNuts has no alternative but to campaign with idiots like Frederick.

If his poll numbers keep tanking at this rate, he will probably have to appear with GDumbya and Darth Cheney on the stage with him. That’s just how desperate he’s getting.

Yeah? Well, we all know just how proud Johnny McNasty is of his frothing, ranting, screeching, hate-spewing supporters!
He told us so last night.

I burst out laughing last night when he said this. Guess Sarah isn’t listening to him? I envision the conversation perhaps like this, McCain; “Sarah, we really should try to tone it down a smidge.” Sarah: “Oh shut up, you old far*. I’M the popular one and without ME you’d have about 12 people at your rallies.”

  9. gummitch says:

I wonder if McBush has repudiated this.

That really could be the slogan for the entire McCain/Palin campaign.

  11. the Lone Voice of Reason says:

gunnitch 10- Boy that’s real nice of them. Shows their infantile racist emotions full swing :(

Blinky is never going to change his style, he just says so for the debate to make it look like he’s taking the high road when he’s really mucking through a swamp. By the way, did you see him wipe his hand off on his jacket after he shook hands with Obama–like he got cooties or something?

  12. 666lattes says:

I posted this a little while ago, but seems all the more relevant for this… A couple of weeks ago, I was driving through Prince William County and stopped at a CVS.

I noticed that they had (only) McCain baseball caps for sale at the front counter and I felt a little like picking a fight, so I asked “What’s with only selling John McCain hats” to the guy behind the counter.

He seemed a bit confused and asked “huh?”

and I thought… here we go.

Then he looked over there himself and said “Oooooohhh, I guess we sold out of the Obama hats. Those are the only one’s people are buying.”

So, take it for what it’s worth, but I walked away with a smile.

  13. paleolib says:

The fallout from the racist bilge that results from Saturday’s McPalin rally should be enough to turn off the remaining undecided moderates in that state. Watch the Old Dominion turn bright blue this year.

  14. MrSquirrel says:

Very clever, Mr. McCain! Repudiating him by appearing with him should be the most effective repudiation possible.

    I applaud your integrity, sir!

  15. galmud says:

Next week Frederick will defend his coming remarks about the connection between Obama and Hitler:

“It is just the hard facts. It’s terrible that it can be said, but it can. It’s shocking. Here is a guy who is one step away from the presidency, who is one step away from being commander in chief, who once spoke in Berlin in front of a huge crowd in what was not too long ago the heart of Nazi Germany. It’s just shocking to me. And there is no denying that Hitler leader of Nazi Germany responsible for the Holocaust the killing of 6 million Jews, also spoke in Berlin in front of large crowds.”

What – you didn’t know that Negro is CONTAGIOUS?!?!

In fact, some pundits are already arguing that McCain has already caught secondhand blackness

  18. Zimzone says:

    John McCain:
    -Smiles at the wrong times

-Inserts grunts & hisses, out of turn, at a debate

-Can’t look Obama in the eye

    -Eyes darting around incessantly

-Laughs like a little maniac / bully

-Likes the term ‘my friends’ when he doesn’t have any

-Claims Chicago’s Man of the Year ‘07 is a terrorist

    -Picked a snowbilly for VP

-Lies about the lies he’s told

Why wouldn’t we vote for this man?

    See above…

  19. VerbalKint says:

Gotta keep appealing to the racist, xenophobic, intolerant, 24-7 hatred crowd, just to make sure McLoser reaches three figures in the Electoral College.

  20. Anonymouse says:

    This will get much worse.

I suspect that win or lose, the Republican party will not recover from this campaign anytime soon.

  21. ralph the wonder llama says:

Can anyone explain why Frederick’s comments about Obama are any less “beyond the pale” than the comments of John Lewis for which Grampy demanded a repudiation from Obama last night?

  22. RUCerious says:

McIIIrd said, “I have to look at the context of his remarks.”

    He’ll get back to you.

    Right.

  24. A Patriot Acting says:

Well with friends like John Sidney McCain we can only hope that Jeffrey Frederick’s re-election fairs just as well as McGrumpy’s. It seems the delegate / Virginia GOP head is trying to save his delegate seat. With Obama way ahead in the Virgina polls (a state that hasn’t been blue since 1964) I now understand Mr. Frederick’s desperation.

There’s no comparison between the two.

Lewis warned that the atmosphere being stirred up by the McCain/Palin hate machine is very similar to the atmosphere stirred up by the worst elements of American society during the civil rights movement.

Frederick equated a relatively pacifist Presiential candidate with a wanted, megalomaniacal terrorist.

There’s nothing for Obama or Lewis to repudiate.

  26. Buckie Boy says:

McCain said that “every time there’s been an out-of-bounds remark made by a Republican, no matter where they are, I have repudiated them.”

    Say what? Liar.

Then he went on to say that “some things that have been said at Obama rallies”

What things are those John? (crickets) Oh, I thought so…you are a LIAR, you’ve got nothing, because there has been nothing.

John you a POS. Just like your PLUMBER PLANT.

  27. A Patriot Acting says:

Why not let Delegate Frederick know what you think of his campaign style and how you feel he is handling his job as head of the Virginia RNC:

  28. the Lone Voice of Reason says:

The Plumber won’t declare who is voting for, which I think is admirable since he won’t at least publicly declare that he MIGHT vote for McBlinky. At least the dude has some ethics that way. Frankly, if I were him I would not like it for the Repugs to say they have anything to do with me on national tv, might be bad for business.

  29. MapleStreet says:

Don’t forget how deeply hurt McCain was by people criticizing his fear and hate mongering. He made that clear last night.

  30. The Dogfather says:

Frederick’s right; Prince William County, VA is McSame country — full of bigots who have been trying (and largely succeeding) for three years to drive out non-white (mainly Latino) citizens so they can have their lilly-white enclave in the heart of NoVA. Only problem for them — they’re surrounded by OBAMA COUNTRY — Fairfax County, Fairfax City, Loudoun County, Stafford County, Arlington County, Alexandria City…

Trust me, my friends (to coin a phrase): we will complete the job of turning Virginia blue this year, even with the lone red holdout of Prince William County in NoVA. And on November 5, we’ll all watch little Jeffy Frederick crawl back under his rock…

  31. ralph the wonder llama says:

Thanks, HTH. I knew it was something like that, yet Grampy threw a hissy fit over a reasonable comparison, and campaigns alongside a guy who confirms a bogus and inflammatory one.

    Go figger.

  32. oldtree says:

and more not really news; ….. a tailor in Richmond is making a new suit for the candidate out of a confederate flag pattern. specifics given the tailor include hiding the colostomy bag, diapers and electronic devices the candidate must wear….

this is the one way to destroy the gop, just let them do what they do best. Hate and steal. Steal is important to the insiders, hate is important to their constituents

  33. paleolib says:

Let’s also keep in mind how the rocket scientists in the Virginia GOP once thought that running Ollie North for the senate was a good idea. I still lived in Virginia in those days and will never forget the “I don’t vote for felons” bumper stickers the Dems handed out. Sounds like the good ol’ boys in Virginia are just trying to keep their KKKrown from being swiped by the California Republicans this year.

  34. drago says:

    Still true…

McCain-Palin are LIARS, HYPOCRITES and FRAUDS.
