A local California GOP women’s organization’s most recent newsletter claims that if Obama is elected, his face will appear on food stamps, rather than dollar bills like other presidents. The group then included a picture of “Obama Bucks” — a phony $10 bill with Obama surrounded by racist imagery:

The president of the organization, Diane Fedele, didn’t understand the charges of racism: “I didn’t see it the way that it’s being taken. I never connected. It was just food to me.” One African-American member of the club said that upon seeing the newsletter, she “cried for 45 minutes.” “This is what keeps African-Americans from joining the Republican Party,” she added. (HT: TPM and Oliver Willis)
pathetic.
October 16th, 2008 at 2:46 pmYassa Massah! We gots us some watermelon and buckets o’ chicken, finger likkkin good!
October 16th, 2008 at 2:49 pmThe Republican Party needs to be flat eliminated. It must not exist anymore. We can never again skip ANY election, especially locally even if we think it is useless. From school boards to state senate and all the federal races. We must turn out in droves for every, single solitary election and drive these people from the planet. If you know anyone that even remotely thinks, “I don’t need to vote for Obama he is going to win anyway”, kick them dead in the ass, grab them by the hair, and drag them to the polls. I was a lifelong Republican until around 2002-2003. I will always and forever vote against these people until they are gone for good.
October 16th, 2008 at 2:49 pmFirst the Sacramento GOP and now a women’s group in Callie – how is racism stronger among West Coast Rethuglicans than in the South?
Or is it willingness to be open about your racism?

October 16th, 2008 at 2:52 pmAre WE (decent Americans) supposed to be shocked, horrified, or suprised by this? What took so long for McCain supporters to start using Chicken and Watermelon references in the campaign. I know when I go to KFC there are always alot of White people inside enjoying chicken. Not once have I heard one yell out “Hey where’s the m-f’in watermelon and iced tea!” (get it).

My sister, a resident of California a RN nurse and a gopper sent me and about 100 others via email
this nasty video concerning Obama. My respect for her has dropped a few decibels.
Obama is leading in double digits in California, but there are some pockets in the valley, Orange county and in rural areas that are richly gopper.

October 16th, 2008 at 3:12 pmWhite racism in America: three hundred and eighty years old and goin’ strong. Why, gasp, white racism is even older than old man McCain… Take that, John, white racism has seniority…

The young black man’s name is TIGER WOODS

Will Mike Huckabee suddenly become “President-elect Huckabee”?
That WOULD be a surprise.
Either way, Daryll, we hope you’re here that morning to share the surprise with us. Will you be here?
October 16th, 2008 at 3:33 pmRemember those old cartoons, depicting African Americans as big lipped, slow talking, uneducated folks?
Well, it appears we’ve returned (or never left).
I hang my head in shame. There was, at one time, when I was younger (and not as wise), a belief inside of me that we would end racism and bigotry in my lifetime.
Sadly, we won’t.
I am reminded of an incident back in 1992. I was on a cruise, and some of my table mates were senior ladies, rich and white, from Louisiana. Now, my neck of the woods (southwest Michigan) sees little racism. Well, at least I didn’t.
October 16th, 2008 at 3:34 pmAnyway, back to story. It was during the Rodney King vs LAPD verdict. A passenger at our table announced that the police officers were acquitted. I remember being disgusted. What happened next was almost surreal.
The ladies, all dressed up with fancy hats and gloves, clapped their hands and yelled…”Goody” and “Good for them”.
I was appalled.
But it was that day, April 26th, (my golden birthday), that I realized our country was not color blind.
These (R) ladies from California remind me of those table mates 16 years ago.
And yes indeed, we are still not color blind.
Daryl, President Obama is going to cut contractor spending by at least 10%. I, therefore, can see why you’re eager to throw shit at the wall.
October 16th, 2008 at 3:35 pmNope, can’t help stupid! I am amazed any person of color would be a GOP member.

October 16th, 2008 at 3:36 pmThere you have it, missmolly.
Daryll is unwilling or incapable of addressing the inherent racism in the caricature. He continues to cling to the tired right-wing mantra of blaming the victim, as it allows him to pretend that his party doesn’t secretly despise and distrust “good ones” like himself.
As John Kenneth Galbraith said, “The modern conservative is engaged in one of man’s oldest exercises in moral philosophy: that is the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.”
October 16th, 2008 at 3:37 pmpsst, it’s pronounced “African American”, not “dark-toned”.
Shit man, you haven’t even embraced your own Nubian roots, which explains A LOT about your incredible insecurities!
October 16th, 2008 at 3:41 pmFirst of all, Daryll, you and I clearly have different concepts of the term “holy people”. I don’t really think of “holy people” as “conquerors”. I’m pretty sure Jesus didn’t, either. At least, not in the way you present here.
Second, I see that you’re counting on teh GOP’s “Suppress the Vote” campaign, huh? Why do you hate democracy, Daryll? Is it because you know that, in a fair election, you guys lose?
I could see that being a sticking point for you.
October 16th, 2008 at 3:41 pmWhen a white person states, “Obama still hasn’t given me facts and figures to make me vote for him.” I consider that racist because I hear the facts, the figures. Mccain just blows hot air with NO numbers, NO facts. So the only reason the white person can’t hear is the racism in their head.
October 16th, 2008 at 3:42 pmCRapture Ready (aka Parodyll) says:

You are always being criticized for not capitalizing God, or when quoting, not capitalizing He.
Yet you capitalize government?
Man, Freud would have a field day with you! And that’s not even dwelving into your closeted homosexual tendencies, as well as your enjoyment of shooting baby animals.
Good day!
October 16th, 2008 at 3:43 pmYou forgot to mention “and the government’s largess”.
Funny how the folks who shriek the loudest about government spending always seem to be the ones whose livelihoods are built around it.
And that must give you some security, knowing that the contract is “legally binding”, huh? Just like the people who had their money invested in Lehman Brothers.
October 16th, 2008 at 3:43 pmThis food stamp is an example of how Hussein wants to take from those who worked hard to become extremely successful and give to those who refuse to use the same method to get out of poverty.
October 16th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
What about those who worked hard and got laid off? Are they not successful? The food stamp program is one of the most efficient in government, and today you see a lot of people using it for themselves and their families until some new jobs (industries) come along.
Also, am I right in recalling that you work for a private contractor doing business with the government? If so, remember that strategic government spending provides your employment and, in turn, puts food in your cupboard.
October 16th, 2008 at 3:43 pmYeah, like the sub-prime lenders who worked oh so very hard. Maybe the enron smart guys, those kind of people rr?

October 16th, 2008 at 3:45 pmDaryll,
I find it interesting that you aren’t offended by this blatant racism. Is that because you are a typical Repug; “Screw the rest of the African-Americans and other stereotypes, I got mine”.

You post about welfare and the successful giving to the unsuccessful. Obama is outperforming McCain. He is successful. Why, therefore, are you attempting to penalize his success with personal attacks? What is wrong with your party?
October 16th, 2008 at 3:59 pmIt is Gods plan to elect Barack Obama because Obama is a good christian man, with morals and integrity unlike Johnny McAdulterer or his sidekick who parades her pregnant, unwedded teenage daughter all across America.

These projects cost money. The American people agree. You are just along for the ride now so enjoy.

October 16th, 2008 at 4:07 pmYou seem confident that the vast majority of these non-counted votes will be Democratic.
Why is that? Just curious. I would think that, if the problem was a s widespread as Republicans say, then the percentages of Democratic and Republican votes discounted should mirror the percentages in the general voting population, right? For example, voters like Joe the Plumber, whose name is misspelled on his Republican voter registration form.

October 16th, 2008 at 4:08 pmSure, you revolting racist– you just happened to pick those particular food items at random. Not only are you a racist, you lie as well. And yes, this is why so many people shun the hateful Republican party. Blatantly racist GOP attacks reveal over & over that the vast majority of Republicans revile people of color.
They’re doing it wrong. Why Kool-Aid? Why not a 40-oz bottle of Colt 45? Now THAT’S racist.
October 16th, 2008 at 4:08 pmDaryll; for an explanation of racism, see my alma mater, Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan. They operate a jim crow museum.

October 16th, 2008 at 4:09 pmThis happened in CALIFORNIA? Man, and they say that the South is bad.
Any white person over the age of 30 who does not know that watermelon, fried chicken and kool-aid are stereotypically associated with African-Americans is just plain ignorant. There is no doubt whatsoever that the person who designed and created the graphic knew…. there is literally no way that someone would randomly select these food items by accident.
Is this really all that the GOP has to offer America? After all this time, is that really all there is?
To hell with the GOP and those who support it.

A christian man with strong christian values, a family man who is faithful to his wife and is a devoted father to his children and a man who has compassion for those less fortunate then him. A man who supports peace
OR
An admitted adulterer, who dropped bombs on thousands of innocent victims, is a serial liar, worships Mammon and is full of hate for those skin color is different then his? A man who supports war?
You decide.
October 16th, 2008 at 4:10 pmSo daryll, if the republicans show a picture of Obama with a noose around his neck would you consider that racist or would you just equate that with your image of a german eating sausage as not being racist.
Where is the line between decency and evil. You must have an opinion.
October 16th, 2008 at 4:10 pm“I never connected. It was just food to me.”
This denial sounds so hollow, it’s not even funny.
Had it been “just food”, the group could have picked any food -hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza… but they picked a very specific type of food. On top of that, they included food stamps.
Their intent is clear. And they obviously never intended their audience to include African-Americans.

Mark 7:6
Matthew 23:14-15
You are the perfect definition of a hypocrite, as defined by the one you claim to honor, Jesus. Or are you just a liar?

If Jesus were walking among us today many of these so called christians on the radical right would attack and smear him for being against war, helping the old, the sick and the needy and most likely want to crucify him all over again.
I’m glad Darryl that you’ll separate yourself from this blatant racism. Perhaps you might even denounce the GOP, after all you said so yourself…
The bible says to separate yourself from sin.
October 16th, 2008 at 4:19 pmUncle Fester Lurks, well said. Jesus was a LIBERAL! And liberal is not a dirty word.

I know when I go to KFC there are always alot of White people inside enjoying chicken. Not once have I heard one yell out “Hey where’s the m-f’in watermelon and iced tea!” (get it).
Actually, given Harlan Saunders’s political career, I wouldn’t think that KFC is the favourite chicken emporium of African-Americans (my experience is that Popeye’s seems to be more popular).
My hat’s off to you for your service to the country … and I’ll do everything I can to get you home safely and soon.

Wonderful. I never understood how ignorance of American history allowed the Republican Party to co-opt the patriotism mantle. I generally equate love of country with some knowledge of broad American ideals. Instead, all we get are ugly and embarrassing stunts like this one.

October 16th, 2008 at 4:34 pmNot to go off topic from my faux brown sugar’s derailment, but I just wanted to share this with all.
October 16th, 2008 at 4:34 pmOne of my (R) friends, who is usually not argumentative, just sent an email wishing that McCain would have addressed certain issues about Obama (like character, and lack of experience) instead of attacking. It’s a move of desperation as he even admitted it was hopefully to sway the fence voters. I, of course, couldn’t keep silent, so I replied, albeit in kind, knowing well that the majority of addresses were Republicans.
well, lo and behold, another response, this time from a right voter, basically calling McCain an A-hole, and that his POW status does not make him qualified for president. It also stated that we need change now from the mess Bush has created. He concluded by stating he, too, was voting Obama/Biden!
Again, this from a conservative.
I am grinning ear from ear right now!

October 17th, 2008 at 9:12 pmThat “thing” is totally unacceptable, however, it doesn’t make Obama any more electable. Most comments are correct: the neocon-hijacked GOP is a disgrace.
