Fey: Conservative complaint that my Palin impression is sexist ‘is just crazy.’

In an appearance on David Letterman’s show (taped this afternoon and airing tonight), Tina Fey talked about how she developed her pitch-perfect Sarah Palin impersonation. She also mentioned that some conservatives — such as McCain campaign adviser Carly Fiorina — have called the sketches “sexist.” Fey said such charges were “crazy”:

FEY: That is just crazy because you have to be able to goof on the female politicians just as much otherwise you really are treating them like they’re weaker or something.

Watch it:

On Lars Larson’s radio show yesterday, Palin gave a semi-endorsement of Fey’s impression: “She’s funnier than heck when you turn the volume down, because she’s spot on in the mannerisms and everything else.”

    Who’s Lars Larsen?

    And why should I care?

  2. Leftside Annie says:

Hear, hear, Tina!! You go, girl!

  3. raynman says:

How can Palin be ready to face the terrorists if she can’t face Tina Fey??

Man, this is just too easy, isn’t it?

  4. shoeless says:

Hey Sarah, Tina is even funnier when you can hear her.

    Dumbass.

  5. Winski says:

That clearly means we should turn HER volume off..already done…and can’t hear carly scream from under the bus either…teehee…

  6. radiodujour says:

She may be president. Bush is our president and he’s an idiot who never won an election. Actually everything he’s ever touched has turned to shit. I’m looking forward to the movie tonight.

  7. tombaker says:

that’s funny, but i can’t remember hearing any conservative complaints that weren’t crazy (except for those few who complain about mccain and palin)

  8. DidHeJustSayThat says:

The level of volume makes no difference. Half of the time she’s directly quoting this wacknut – that is what makes it so hilarious!!!!!

  9. RUCerious says:

Heat, kitchen, can’t stand the, stay out of…

  10. robbez_92107 says:

….and you are much less likely to incite a riot “as heck” when we turn the volume down on you, lady.

We still can’t stand to see you drag that poor little Down’s Syndrome kid around as a campaign prop, though.

    Oh, yah – you betcha.

  11. BrianFL says:

Palin didn’t even bother to listen to the Presidential debates with the sound turned on either, which is why she contradicts so many of McCain’s debate positions, such as taking out Bin Laden if we have specific intelligence of his location in Pakistan.

Note to the McCain-Palin camp: time to start “palling around” with the volume button and turn it up a little.

  12. MCMetal says:

I love you Tina , but show me one conservative that isn’t crazy to begin with before I bother ………..

  13. Leftside Annie says:

Heh. The Moosinator is stupid – on steroids.

That is even more reason for Palin to listen to Fey. Sarah obviously never knows what she is saying.

  15. McWars says:

    Sarah’s mental activity is mute.

  16. Shayne says:

Palin would probably be less offensive if we turned her volume off.

  17. radiodujour says:

What’s crazy is believing that there are two sides, the liberals and conservatives, and that anything you see on mainstream corporate controlled media is true.

This is a mental play pen we’ve been placed in and we need to break out of it if we are going to survive as a democracy.

Information is the life blood of a free people. We have become soft/lazy and are about to pay an extreme prize for not being vigilant.

  18. shoeless says:

Is Carly suggesting that females are typically stupid?

  19. radiodujour says:

Americans are typically stupid. Females are less so.

    I am an American male.

  20. McWars says:

Sexist? Tina Fey’s Palin was (is) a dim wit, sure, but Amy Poehler’s Clinton was substantive. It’s no different than a skit portraying Quayle vs. Benson.

  21. RUCerious says:

How’d that running HP into the ground thing go for you, Carly?
You really must be a role model for businesswomen ~ er, nowhere…

  22. Jackie says:

Sarah got where she is by using what she has beauty and flirting. After losing the Miss Alaska Contest she knew what worked for her. She does her Mae West/Betty Boop show and men follow. She knows were aren’t her stronger points but using them with her children and now her special needs child. For those who questioned if the child is her daughrer’s baby it could be check out Jamie Lyn Spears. Sarah will do what it takes to get what she wants and after going nation wide as a candidate anyone with a brain can see how she moved up the old fashion way. She’s not the first nor will she be the last. This is the first time a bimbo has been running for one of the highest offices in the USA. Yes if Sarah were elected and McCain was unable to complete his term Sarah would be flirting with every World Leader and God’s knows what else as Todd would be running the country as he does in Alaska.

If Todd is running the country, would he secede the United States from the Union?

  24. RUCerious says:

SHOELESS, he’d probably come up with something more like ‘The Separate States of Amurika’

  25. Gregor Samsa says:

Only in Conservaland can a dead-on impersonation of a woman by another woman be considered sexist.

Specially when you consider that Fey’s spoof of the Couric-Palin interview used Palin’s babble verbatim.

By the way, I do believe Palin would make a great comedian if hers were an act (”I have foreign policy experience! Russia can be seen from Alaska!”). Too bad it isn’t.

  26. Keith H. says:

    The Republic of Stupidity Says:

He’s a guy that wants to be like his hero rush.
If I’m not mistaken they gave him a local tv spot which died before it got out of the gates.
I don’t even see or hear ads for his bush loving radio program anymore.
That leaves me thinking that if they’re going on his radio show they must really be struggling.

Palin gave a semi-endorsement of Fey’s impression: “She’s funnier than heck when you turn the volume down, because she’s spot on in the mannerisms and everything else.”

She continued, “but when I’m some place where people insist on listening as well as watching, then I find that it’s still hilarious as long as I stick my fingers in my ears”.

  28. Gregor Samsa says:

“She’s funnier than heck when you turn the volume down”

Obviously Palin’s idiocy is too much even for Palin.

Someone should remind her that ’tis better to remain silent and be thought a fool…

  29. wwew says:

the “genius” of the sketches is the SNL writers dont have to write any jokes. they just have to steal from Palin’s actual words. Her lines are far funnier and absurd than anything they could ever come up with on purpose.

  30. Perry logan says:

Everybody knows sexists can’t do impersonations.

  31. MapleStreet says:

It is easy to tell the difference:

Guy says that seeing Palin wink sends him into ecstacy – NOT sexist

Fey kidding Palin for obvious flaws – sexist

Obama not wearing flag pin – Anti – USA
Obama wearing flag pin – neutral

Repub not wearing flag pin – patriotic
Repub wearing flag pin – patriotic

Attack Ads and pundits calling Obama a Muslim Arab Terrorist who attended a Madras – acceptable

Pundits saying McCain is flaming hate – racist and personal comment which is below the belt

  32. bigeugene says:

Again, how creepy/weird is it that Palin has to watch it w/ no volume?! You know they sequester her from negative press about herself. She goes to her rallies and thinks everyone in America loves her. (Reminds me of Sally Field in Soapdish, “You like me! You really, really like me!).

This woman has the thinnest skin ever and the mentality/behavior of a junior high girl.

    Pathetic.

  33. ralph the wonder llama says:

    bigeugene Says:
Again, how creepy/weird is it that Palin has to watch it w/ no volume?!

    it’s not creepy, bigeugene — it’s cowardly.

She knows that she can’t say she didn’t watch it, because that would indicate that she doesn’t have a sense a humor about herself.

But she doesn’t want to own up to the fact that the content of the skits is dead-on, either. She doesn’t want to deal with the content at all.

Her chickenshit solution? Claim that she watches it, but with the sound off.

Now, is that cowardice, or what?

    The Republic of Stupidity Says:

It will come as no surprise to hear that Lars Larsen is a rightwing radio talkshow “host”, who happens to be based in my hometown , Portland, Oregon. Just the sort of “interviewer” that would be approved by the McStain campaign.

  35. Imichael says:

Here is something sexist, Tina Fey is hot and she makes me laugh.

  36. palinode says:

This hilarious video of Palin’s VP debate footage shows who clearly is the sexist one: the McCain campaign. IT’s truly worth checking out. She didn’t behave this way when running for Governor

  37. JaneaneTheAcerbicGoblin says:

Tina Fey sexist! That’s hilarious, funnier than most SNL sketches…
