Norm Coleman’s ’solution’ to the economic crisis? The Hoover agenda.

A new campaign ad from Sen. Norm Coleman (R-MN) titled “Solutions” says that Coleman’s “plan” to tackle the economic crisis includes a proposal to “balance the budget in 5 years.” Watch it:

With his balanced budget pledge, which would require the most severe spending cuts, Coleman has adopted the neo-Hooverism agenda. As Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman explained today, “What we need right now is more government spending,” including investment in unemployment benefits, mortgage restructuring, emergency aid to states, and infrastructure.

In the ad, Coleman says he supports “freezing congressional pay,” But last month, he “said public servants, including members of Congress, deserve a reasonable pay raise but not special treatment.”

Norm Coleman is an idiot (maybe not a big fat one, but still an idiot), and is going to lose to Al Franken in three weeks. Hopefully, Norm can help Bachman also pack up her office.

“Norm Coleman’s ’solution’ to the economic crisis? The Hoover agenda.” Thanks, Norm. You have just handed Al Franken the keys to the Senate office. What a buffoon.

  3. paleolib says:

Norm will be in favor of extending unemployment benefits starting November 5.

  4. Above the Clouds says:

Every time you see Norm Coleman’s face–just remember he is sitting in Paul Wellstone’s MN Senate seat.

Two in one day? I’m soooooooooooo proud to be a Minnesotan.

For the record, I didn’t vote for Norm or Crazy Shelly.

  6. Jane E. Schneider says:

Above the Clouds, thanks for the reminder. Coleman dishonors everything that Wellstone stood for.

At least Coleman has some sort of plan. Maybe he could loan it to McCain…

Well, Normie, that’s a good way for everyone to know your name (sorry Cheers for the ripoff). Too bad-not-everyone will probably add “You big dumb idiot” to the end of it.

    I bet Franken loves it.

This is an example of what little Americans know about US History. First most Americans don’t know Hoover was a President. Those who do know realize why FDR won the election and had so many terms. Yes those were the years of the Great Depression and Hoover was clueless so FDR won big. Now we face the perfect storm and again we have to choose between McCain who knows nothing and might not make it for 4 years with Sarah Palin who is a bimbo. Or we have Obama who has a plan and can explain it with Biden who will be honest with Obama.

Yeah, this guy needs to be working on a solution for where he is going to be working after this cycle……he’s officially out of a job.

I feel your pain, pete. I didn’t vote for Tappy McWideStance or Abortion Causes Breast Cancer Sali.

At least mine are keeping quiet. Thank you, thank you…

Thanks Zooey. Whenever anyone goes too far I just remind them that “we” “elected” the Chimp in Chief.

Here’s an OT story about threats and vandalism directed at ACORN officials and offices. Funny. They occurred a day after Flippy McSpin passed out the “voter fraud” line in the last debate.

This is one Minnesotan that is ready to see Norm the Bush lackey shown the door. Franken has slipped ahead, but barely.

I’m crossing my fingers and casting my vote for Franken, who would be a progressive and thoughtful Senator. One who would likely make the late Senator Wellstone proud.

C-SPAN 2 viewership is going to skyrocket with Al Franken as a Senator. He’ll be the true “maverick” of the Senate within minutes of his first speech from the floor.

  17. krazeeinjun says:

If Norm Coleman had a brain, Al Franken could develop an instantaneous SNL skit for it.

    Just saying . . .

Perhaps after the election you could go back to makign tents and lanterns, Norm.

The Puke playbook cals for using the economic ‘crisis’ to pare federal spending on everything not either military or ’security’ related to the bone, or eliminated it completely, thereby honoring Grover Norquist’s yen to drwon social spending in the bathtub of greed, mismanagement and corruption.

You’ll notice he never specified how it was to be done, only that it should be…

  21. DallasNE says:

McCain’s across the board freeze proposal is pretty much just a varation of this. He proposes no stimulive spending on things like infrastructure so McCain also proposes prolonging the recession. Thanks for your compassion guys.

  22. impeachcheneythenbush says:

The “Presidential line item veto” keeps coming up as an “idea” in solving economic problems. What do these people not understand about the FACT that the Supreme Court ruled it as unconstitutional back in the Clinton era?

  23. impeachcheneythenbush says:

More detail on the Presidential line item veto:

Line Item Veto Act of 1996

Presidents have repeatedly asked Congress to give them a line item veto power. According to Louis Fisher in The Politics of Shared Power, Ronald Reagan said to Congress in his 1986 State of the Union address, “Tonight I ask you to give me what forty-three governors have: Give me a line-item veto this year. Give me the authority to veto waste, and I’ll take the responsibility, I’ll make the cuts, I’ll take the heat.” Bill Clinton echoed the request in his State of the Union address in 1995.

The President was briefly granted this power by the Line Item Veto Act of 1996, passed by Congress in order to control “pork barrel spending” that favors a particular region rather than the nation as a whole. The line-item veto was used 11 times to strike 82 items from the federal budget by President Bill Clinton. [3][4]

However, U.S. District Court Judge Thomas F. Hogan ruled on February 12, 1998, that unilateral amendment or repeal of only parts of statutes violated the U.S. Constitution. This ruling was subsequently affirmed on June 25, 1998, by a 6-3 decision of the Supreme Court of the United States in the case Clinton v. City of New York. The case was brought by the then New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani.

A constitutional amendment to give the President line item veto power has been considered periodically since the Court ruled the 1996 act unconstitutional. Some scholars, including Louis Fisher, believe the line item veto would give presidents too much power over government spending compared with the power of Congress.[

  24. tokin librul says:

More detail on the Presidential line item veto:

No President since Washington has EVER ceded powers they assumed for a particular purpose or crisis back to those institutions from which they took that power.

    Not one.

And there is NO REASON to believe this will start with EITHER of the current candidates. Neither of these guys could carry Washington’s soiled linen…

“… believe the line item veto would give presidents too much power over government spending…”???

Well, shucks… Botch sure has shite all over that quaint little idea, huh?

BTW… does the Hoover Doctrine mean that Norm will get down, roll around on the floor, and suck?

  27. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

Ok, what in the hell is happening here. I just looked at Research 2000 (my favorite poll) and it now looks like Obama is only ahead by 7. McCain has gone up 2 points since the last debate. Are there really 43% of the people in this country that can’t see the danger in McCain/Palin? Do these people not care about health care, women’s rights, the economy? I just can’t believe there are that many stupid people in this country.

  29. sectionop92 says:

If Joe had hoped creditors had finally gone away, Gollum McCain didn’t do him any favors.
