Loyal Bushies refuse to screen ‘W.’
Yesterday, Oliver Stone’s movie “W.” opened in theaters nationwide, taking a look at President Bush’s rise to power. However, former Bush administration staffers are in no rush to see the film, according to ABC News:
ABCNews.com contacted about 25 Republicans and former Bush administration staffers and found only one — former Press Secretary Scott McClellan — who would preview the film and comment on its accuracy. And even he was sqeamish. [...]
“I have no plans to see it,” said Mark McKinnon, who advised Bush’s two presidential campaigns. “And I really don’t even want to do anything that brings any more publicity to the movie.” [...]
Paul Wolfowitz, former deputy secretary of defense and the major architect of the Iraq War, told ABCNews.com, “Sorry, no thanks.”
A secretary in the office of Wolfowitz, who was portrayed by Dennis Boutsikaris as the Machiavellian mastermind who beat the war drum, told ABCNews.com, “Don’t hold your breath.”
Both Ari Fleischer and John Ashcroft also declined to see the film.

October 18th, 2008 at 4:34 pmI saw “W” yesterday. The theatre, which is an area of Florida which is Republican land, was actually pretty full. As for the movie, I thought it was more than fair to Bush and showed him as a human being, which we’ve lost in translation over the years. Those who refuse to see this movie have obviously prejudged it as being totally anti-Bush. It isn’t. One of the things I thought was interesting was the view of the Bush family dynamics and the affect that had on GW.

I even watched a flock of sandhill cranes pass over, which is a bit unusual for this neck of the woods.
Oh yeah, you had mentioned sturgeon in the beluga thread. One of the great thrills of my life was catching a sturgeon, considerably larger than me, when I was 10 or 11. It damn near sank our boat!
Very cool fish but, they can’t hold a candle to paddlefish for sheer weirdness. I used to snag one every so often when I did a LOT of fishing on the river.

I enjoyed Salvador, Born on 4th of July, JFK, Doors, Nixon, Wall Street, U-Turn, Natural Born Killers, etc. Talked to quite a few conservatives who liked Platoon.

We were always seeing things that were not supposed to be there. Bobcats, Timber Rattlers, Peregrine falcons, even a bear. Plus we had an acre and a half of lawn that kept the rabbits close and well fed.
That’s why the owls liked to hang out along the boarders of the yard. We even had one kill a rabbit in the glare of the yard light and she was joined by three “chicks” who were nearly grown. But the really neat thing was when one would miss a rabbit. Between the bunny and the pissed off owl, it sounded like a bunch of kids being tortured. It’s, literally, a hair-raising sound.
