Pfotenhauer Insults Virginians: ‘Real Virginia’ Is Only Where McCain Is Winning
On MSNBC this morning, McCain adviser Nancy Pfotenhauer asserted that “real Virginia” does not include Northern Virginia:
I certainly agree that Northern Virginia has gone more Democratic. … But the rest of the state — real Virginia if you will — I think will be very responsive to Senator McCain’s message.
MSNBC host Kevin Corke gave Pfotenhauer a chance to revise her answer, telling her: “Nancy, I’m going to give you a chance to climb back off that ledge — Did you say ‘real Virginia’?”
But Pfotenhauer didn’t budge, and instead dug a deeper hole.
Real Virginia, I take to be, this part of the state that’s more Southern in nature, if you will.
Corke ended the segment noting that Pfotenhauer was appearing via satellite from Northern Virginia. “Nancy Pfotenhauer, senior policy adviser for the McCain campaign, joining us from Arlington, not really Virginia.” “Alright, I’m just gonna let ya– you’ll wear that one,” Corke responded. Watch it:
The McCain campaign’s hostility towards progressive areas of the country was also witnessed by recent remarks from Sarah Palin. The Washington Post reported this week that Palin told a crowd in North Carolina that she “loved to visit the ‘pro-America‘ areas of the country.” “No word on which states she views as unpatriotic,” wrote Juliet Eilperin.
FLASHBACK: During his 2006 campaign, former Sen. George Allen called an Indian-American staffer working for his opponent “macaca,” a racial slur. Allen then told him, “Welcome to America and the real world of Virginia!“
An early October Times-Dispatch poll by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research Inc. showed voters in Southwest Virginia preferred McCain to Obama, 54 percent to 39 percent, with 7 percent undecided. Statewide, recent polls have shown Obama running anywhere from statistically even with McCain to 10 points ahead.

For every inch or two of ground the campiagn might gain, she opens her mouth and sets everything back an age or two. She is Ms. Alienation. Is this why Osama has been allowed to go free year after year, and the Bush Administration has said that Osama no longer matters? Because he only killed people who weren’t Real Americans?
Is this why McCain says he knows how to catch Osama but he hasn’t bothered to let anyone else know how so we could do it? Because Osama only killed East Coast Liberal Elitists, therefore if it doesn’t personally profit McCain, he can’t be bothered doing something with the knowedge he claims he has?
Is this why largely Democratic New Orleans was allowed first to drown and then to rot, because New Orleaneans aren’t “real Americans”?? strong>
This on top of the idiot Congresswoman who just declared she wants her fellow members of Congress investigated to see just how “American” they really are. I’m sure she feels equal to the task of being judge and jury on that show trial.
One good thing about all this hate coming to the surface is that it’s in plain sight now, and “real” America is rejecting it. The racists and hatemongers are becoming more desperate by the day, and the more they freak out, the more they try to scare and intimidate with their lies and racism, and they are the only ones who don’t get just how bad they look to the rest of us.

however, the headline of this post is misleading. she was attempting to say that, because southern virginia is not rich and wealthy, it is the “real virginia” (meaning: where the normal, working people live, and not where the cosmopolitan political and business class reside up north near d.c.

What planet is she on. I had heard they were making a serious play for this area (I live here, I grew up here) with the whole NRA/Guns message but they (the Repubs) do this every 4 years and it never pans out. We have strong Democratic roots and I don’t think it is working this year either. In fact, I feel like many people, especially younger people, are a little more fired up this year than in the past. I know people who are volunteering and putting signs (yes, I know signs don’t vote) in their yard who never would have in the past. Not buying it Nancy Pf-whatever. I’m sick of them saying they are making a play for the Iron Range of Minnesota. Not gonna happen.
