Palin breaks with McCain on Federal Marriage Amendment.

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has said he opposes the Federal Marriage Amendment, which would amend the Constitution to ban marriage equality, because he believes it is an issue to be left up to states. In an interview with CBN’s David Brody, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) broke with McCain and strongly supported the amendment:

PALIN: [I]n my own, state, I have voted along with the vast majority of Alaskans who had the opportunity to vote to amend our Constitution defining marriage as between one man and one woman. I wish on a federal level that that’s where we would go because I don’t support gay marriage. I’m not going to be out there judging individuals, sitting in a seat of judgment telling what they can and can’t do, should and should not do.

Watch it:

Palin’s support for the amendment reveals her inconsistency in being a “federalist.” Commenting on Roe v. Wade, Palin said, “I’m, in that sense, a federalist, where I believe that states should have more say in the laws of their lands and individual areas.”

UpdateThe Log Cabin Republicans write in a statement:
We disagree with Gov. Palin on this issue, but we're glad that Sen. McCain agrees with us. The president sets the policy for the administration. Sen. McCain twice voted against the federal marriage amendment and continues to believe the states should decide this issue.

Why do these religious people insist on shoving their particular beliefs onto the rest of us. If you don't believe in Gay marriage, then marry someone of the opposite sex. If you don't believe in abortion, then don't have one. If you believe in self flagellation with cactus, then go ahead, just don't insist on making the rest of us do it as well.

I love this line, it encapsulates the whole right wing extremist philosophy. Because we don't support "insert option here", it is WRONG and should be banned unilaterally.

I wonder why they feel so threatened...Could it be a lack of ability to support their original premises with anything other than their own soulscout guidebook, the bible? I'm all about embracing each person's chosen path to eternal peace, but I sure would appreciate a reciprocal effort. Of course we’re back to their Catch-22 inability to provide equality when their entire belief system is based in the assumption that the bible is the only word of the only God, and that they alone are capable of interpreting what it needs to mean. The alternative would be thought and learning, subjects I don’t believe are covered in the bible.

Finally, to be absolutely clear, I am not slamming all Christians, only the hypocrital bigots on the far right that attempt to hide their ignorance behind a cloak of fear and damnation.

Mark my words. Everything Palin says from here on out will be designed to increase the amount of up-front money she receives for a book deal that will surely come after the Palin/McCain ticket is trounced in November.

  90. MapleStreet Says:

I'm wondering if it may be intentional to have McCain say one thing and Palin another.

That way, they can try to have it both ways ?

  91. Buckie Boy Says:

Hey RupturedRectal - How do you feel about Shara's daughter being preggers out of wedlock?

And why won't Shara release her health records?

Could it be that the newborn is her daughters?

And again, how's that "God told me that Phuckabee is going to our next President" working out for you?

  92. The Dogfather Says:

Let's face it, my friends -- Bambi isn't "breaking with the McCain campaign" -- this is simply the opening of the "Palin 2012" campaign that all the ultra reich-wingers like ReadyforRupture are starting early...

  93. RantingTommy Says:

If you speak to a god, you are simply gullible

If a god speaks to you, you are insane

  94. Zooey Says:

I wish on a federal level that that’s where we would go because I don’t support gay marriage.

    Ok, whatever.

I’m not going to be out there judging individuals, sitting in a seat of judgment telling what they can and can’t do, should and should not do.

    So which is it, honey?

  95. RUCerious Says:

Palin must have read about some 'Federalist Papers' and figured she'd sound real smart talkin up federalist stuff.
Unfortunately, those federalist papers don't come in color in Sunday's newspaper.

Further evidence of Daryll's moral relativity. How very weak, Daryll. God hates weakness.

  97. IgnoranceIsNotBliss Says:

Notice how Daryll runs every time the logic starts to flow? His little head can't take teh logic.

  98. RantingTommy Says:

  99. pluege Says:

why would the media pretend that pork barrel palin has a serious cognitive thought in her head or that typical wingnut hypocrisy would bother her or her crank supports in the least?

  100. liberal traitor Says:

There were exceptions granted by God in the Old Testament, but our laws are in the New Testament. Follow them or prepare for torture and damnation.

No, RaptureReady, OUR (as in ALL citizens of the USA) laws are NOT in the new or old testament. OUR laws are in the Constitution of the United States, the Bill Of Rights, and on the books as far as what passes congress and the president's veto power.

The laws you refer to apply only to those who ascribe to Christianity, which is NOT everyone. There are plenty of Buddhists, Muslims (some who die in the service 'fighting for our freedoms' just like other faiths by the way), Jews, Agnostics, Atheists, Pagans, Wiccans, Shintoists, Taoists, Native American spiritual cultures, etc etc in this country too. Do they have to subjugate themselves to the will of Christianity? That kind of goes against the "no establishment of state religion" thing doesn't it? People of other faiths should no more be expected to follow the 'laws' set by Christianity than Christians should be subject to the laws of those other faiths.

The only laws we are ALL subject to are the laws that WE ALL make.

Long story short, take your religion and shove it where God tells it it's naughty.

  101. republicans hate facts Says:

Daryll telling people they shouldn't cast stones while himself passing judgment on the MORALITY of others!! ROTFL! How HYSTERICAL!!!

Hey Daryll, LYING and DISCRIMINATING against others is FAR MORE IMMORAL than anything you accuse gay people of. In fact, those gay people you're attacking want the same thing you have, a marriage, a home, and possibly children with their life partner. Wow, they're just wierd sinful people - right?

Get some counseling, and stop lying to your wife from the closet! ROTFL, you crazy x-tians are just a riot with all of your false morality, and hate disguised as 'do-goodery'. You're an evil little man...

It’s called forgiveness. Also, “HE WHO IS WITHOUT SIN, CAST THE FIRST STONE”. Keep the rocks in your pocket.

Ok, I FORGIVE YOU for being an ignorant hick hypocrite, that thinks it's moral to spread prejudice, bigotry and hatred based on outmoded ignorance that once thought you and your fellow Africans were the 'cursed' sons of Noah and therefore deserved to be slaves. It was the same ignorance then that was used to excuse the injustices and immoral persecution of your ancestors that you use today to persecute gay people. How sad it is for you to learn so little from the suffering of your own ancestors. What a pathetic little creature you are...

i think a Constitutional Amendment TAKING AWAY rights, is by definition, judging and telling people what they can and cannot do.

She's not a federalist. She's an opportunist and a bigot. On one issue she is for state's rights and the other she is for the federal government to step in. What a loser.

Well I just can’t believe I’m late to this party.

So let me understand this. The goal of marriage is to procreate, therefore marriages that don’t lead to procreation shouldn’t be allowed??? Should woman past child-bearing age be allowed to marry?

Once again, religion brings out the most stupid of humans.

    October 20th, 2008 at 1:24 pm

Whoa, slow down there! You're injecting logic into religion, and everyone knows that logic and religion just don't mix!

That's a line I used one time to a co-worker who was explaining that marriage was for a man and woman who wanted to have children. Needless to say, he didn't like logic being applied to his opinion. He also made the comment that any man who ever had sex with another man at any point in his life was automatically a homosexual. Of course, I had to respond with "Well, I've never had sex with a woman, so by your logic if I were to ever try it out, I would immediately become a heterosexual, right?"

For some reason, logic only applies to right-whiners if it supports their assertions. If it does not, then it isn't considered an acceptable argument.

    Go figure.
