Video: Attacks on ACORN are part of a long-running right-wing campaign of voter suppression.

A new video from Brave New Films makes the case that recent fear-mongering claims of “voter fraud” are part of a long-running right-wing campaign to suppress the vote. As evidence, the video documents this statement made in 1980 by conservative activist Paul Weyrich:

They want everybody to vote! I don’t want everybody to vote. Elections are not won by a majority of people – they never have been from the beginning of our country and they are not now. As a matter of fact, our leverage in the elections, quite candidly, goes up as the voting populace goes down.

    Oh. My. F ucking. God.

Thanks for saying that right out loud, you Republican loser.

  2. Tim Vaculik says:

Whenever the left senses people are onto their schemes they cry “fear mongering” and anything that comes to mind in order to distract the public at large from what is REALLY going on.

All you have to do is look at Ohio. Busloads of “volunteers” are pouring into the state under a cover story of “getting out the vote.” They are being put up in the homes of good Democrats while they are out making their mischief.

In fact, they have been caught RED-HANDED taking advantage of Ohio’s lax voting procedures in order to register and vote at the same time via absentee ballot. They are VOTING in Ohio ILLEGALLY because they are not residents. Guess who they are voting for…

This has been brought to the attention of the state’s attorney general, but he didn’t sound too eager to prosecute in the clip I heard. He also mentioned that these people who were caught have LAWYERS already!!!

The questions that need to be answered are:
    1. Who paid the expenses of these young people to go to Ohio?
    2. Who’s paying for their lawyers?
    3. Why are they knowingly breaking the law?

    Fear mongering my ass…

Try telling that to the troll — and all his trollie friends under the bridge.

  6. Tim Vaculik says:

    ACORN.

Now here’s an organization that needs to be investigated under the R.I.C.O. act! I think the count is up to five (or possibly more) states where they are being actively investigated for organized voter fraud activities. Hell, even the FBI is investigating them.

There are so many things they are doing on a number of different levels that it’s hard to keep up. Here’s some examples:

    1. Going into prisons to register offenders who are ineligible to vote.
    2. Paying people to register and vote multiple times.
    3. Haranging sick people in hospitals!
    4. REgistering under age youth

On and on and on and ON!

There is one thing that a lot of people believe: The Democrats are out to literally throw this election.

  7. Tim Vaculik says:

“Elections are not won by a majority of people – they never have been from the beginning of our country and they are not now.”

Actually the guy in the video is correct if he is talking about the Presidential election. The President is elected by the states, specifically by electors from each state, not the “popular vote.”

    So, where’s the beef?

  8. miatch says:

    Oh Timmy,
You still seemed to be confused between the difference between registration fraud (which was conducted AGAINST ACORN) and actual voter fraud, like the kind committed by Ann Coulter last election. (She wasn’t put in jail for some twisted reason)

  9. Jim Wolf359 says:

Timmy’s as confused as the wingnuts he gets his talking points from. Also as hypocritical as his wingnut enablers in as much that the ONLY indicment brought so far is in california against a Republican. I’d also add that given whats happened in Montana, New Mexico, and Ohio among other places the people commiting Registration and Voter Fraud would be the Retuglicans. Looks like Timmy’s a LOSER.

  10. pete says:

Got any documentation for your disturbing claims, stupid troll? Arrest records? Eye witness accounts? Documents? Facts?

  11. pete says:

C’mon stupid troll. I’m sure you could Google something like this:

  12. Zooey says:

    pete,

    Trolls are fact-free.

They persist in the magical thinking that something is true simply because they have said it.

  13. spencers mom says:

Here in Pennsylvania, we have plenty of out-of-state volunteers coming from NY, CT, MA and NJ, and I’ve never witnessed anything but the most honest and above board efforts to get people registered (which closed 10/6) and now calling and canvassing. I’ve spent quite a bit of time at Obama HQ here in Bucks County, and everyone I’ve come across is of the absolute highest character with unimpeachable integrity.

So, do tell, Timmy! Names? Links to arrest records or newspaper reports?

The ‘pubs have lost this election and are already out crying foul and making excuses. That sucking sound you hear is the death rattle from a fatal chest wound. Loser.

    PEACE

Must not be as illegal as the gop operative who was actually arrested, handcuffed and perpwalked to jail. Where is your concern about an actual arrested criminal.

We had the acorn thing out with tracy5, he finally managed to prove that acorn had been dealing with problems within their organization in a very reasonable and just way.

the gop want to suppress the vote because the more people who are involved in the process, the worse their chances of manipulating and outright stealing votes becomes.

note that this thread is also about gop and voter suppression, not acorn.

This is too funny, no one thinks any such of a thing. re Jim Baker Fla. 2000.

Just because it is a crime you are familiar with committing doesn’t mean that democrats would ever stoop so low.

Tim, why are you still defending what you know is a failed effort, who used and turned the US into a criminal organization for thier own greed?

The conservative movement is spinning it’s wheels and is digging a hole that they won’t be able to dig out of for many years, if ever.

remember the gop was the fairly silent minority opposition party for 40 or more years…..you know the years when we moved our country forward.

Why do you desire to live in the comfort of the past?

  16. pete says:

I know, Zooey. I just figured I would try the “put up or shut up” approach. I love the sound of crickets chirping.

Yeah sure, that’s why there were 175 thousand people in St. Louis to see Obama.

when cornered about the domestic terrorists in his rallies mccain complained that it’s hard to know what everyone is doing when you have 10 or 15 thousand people at a rally.

see the problem with your logic timmy.

It’s much more soothing than the gnashing teeth sounds and dripping piss smell emanating from the short and warty ones.

  19. pete says:

I guess the stupid troll didn’t get the memo about the GOP throwing the election so they can blame Chimpy’s wars, depression, and overall criminal incompetence on President Obama.

The senile Flippy, and moronic Chippy, have only one goal: keep the 20%er, bottom feeding, sheeple in a flock for future exploitation. Neither one would be nominees if the GOP had any desire to really contest the election. And the best part is that the idiots don’t know they’ve been had.

Seriously, haven’t any of the idiots wondered why so many GOP legislators are retiring? Why they didn’t nominate people who are not gimmicks? I’ve been watching elections for about 40 years and I’ve never seen a more dysfunctional, inept, and divisive, campaign. And I’ve sure as Hell haven’t ever heard a candidate for national office talk about “Real Americans”(TM). It’s political suicide.

  20. Left Coast Mike says:

Republicans should all be castrated or fixed and never allowed to reproduce. EVER!!!

  21. RUCerious says:

I just can’t wait to see Minnie, Mickey, Donald and Goofy show up at the polling stations.

They got nothing, these repukes. They’re gonna be crying foul on Wednesday morning after the election. I’d really like to see how Goofy voted.

  22. pete says:

Speaking of political suicide, it looks like Crazy Shelly (Bachamnn) is sucking a tailpipe. Her Dem opponent has raised nearly $1,000,000 in four days when he’s been averaging $63,000 a week. The local paper has received hundreds of letters, all but two of which implore them to come down on her even harder than they have. One of the local TV stations ran a poll that shows her going from a 6% lead to a 4% deficit. And, her Rep primary opponent has launched a write in campaign and expressly said he doesn’t want Dems or Independents to vote for him, just Reps that have realized she’s an extremist nut-case.

It looks like we may just manage to remove a radical loon from the House.

  23. ucsbclassics53 says:

People like Tim are okay with voter suppression as long as it helps their cause. So AMERICAN, So Patriotic of them! After all, they are the members of real America because we liberals while plotting to terrorize churches and eat fetuses hate America so much we want the terrorists to win!

  24. Arctic Ghetto says:

Why in the world should the Republicans not try to steal this election? They stole the last two and were not called on it. They project many of their intentions. When they raise concerns of voter fraud it is because they are busy doing it.

I believe that they’ll steal enough votes to make the election much closer than it should be so that they can try to pin voter fraud and ACORN on OBAMA thus making him the “ACORN President.” They’re going to trash his legitimacy and then start blaming him for the hell to pay over their screwups and destroying the country for all these years. You’ll hear things like the “OBAMA Depression” the Obama Effect, whatever…

  26. GeorgeM says:

ACORN! The cause of ALL EVIL!! A THREAT TO THE VERY FABRIC OF DEMOCRACY!! That’s what mcSame said so it gotta be true since he’s like an important, credible fellow in a suit and tie, just like Dumbya! So it’s ALL ACORN’S FAULT!

now…look what’s happening in West Virginia:
    http://wvgazette.com/News/200810170676
“When I touched the screen for Barack Obama, the check mark moved from his box to the box indicating a vote for John McCain,” said Matheney, who lives in Kenna.

  27. GL2814 says:

Those f(uks didn’t suppress me from voting early yesterday. Straight Democratic ticket, and one Libertarian! If I have anything to say about it, the GOP will pay for the last eight, extremely f’d up years.

No wonder the Fox Noise Channel is in overdrive with Acorn every day.

  29. dbadass says:

    Morning John Kerry.
Plan to stick around a bit or are you gonna stick with the dump and run approach. Why is it that you are so so afraid of conversation?

  32. mk3872 says:

Amazing how ditto-heads like Tim and the other right wing nuts calmly confuse voter registration fraud allegations with voter fraud allegations.

There are almost never ANY convictions of VOTER fraud.

Several improperly filled-out registration cards are flagged, disposed of and ACORN actually NOTIFIED authorities when they found them.

What a crock and faux issue.

  33. 1Watt says:

According to the attorneys, Rove’s goal with this strategy is to establish a unitary Executive Branch with a supportive judiciary, a weak legislature and a fearful press. Corporate sponsors of this strategy, such as tobacco, energy, telecom, and pharmaceutical companies are rewarded with hands off government: deregulated oversight, stringent limits on class-action damages, the stacking of high courts with pro-business/anti-consumer Justices etc. http://www.velvetrevolution.us/images/Mukasey.pdf

VR’s campaign is in support of the Ohio attorneys’ use of a federal civil lawsuit in a new legal strategy of taking targeted discovery and depositions of those who have been identified as being involved with or having knowledge of Rove’s CyberGate, including Rove, Michael Connell, Jack Abramoff, Michael Scanlon, Bob Ney, Brett Rapp, Ken Blackwell and others. The attorneys intend to file a racketeering RICO lawsuit against those identified in this case and will refer any proof of criminal activity to both state and federal authorities for criminal prosecution.

  34. ucsbclassics53 says:

Such patriotism from John Kerry the troll! Way to parrot the GOP talking point while ignoring electronic voting machines and election fraud…

  35. Tim Vaculik says:

Keep drinking the Koolaid, kids. I WAS talking about voter fraud as well as voter registration fraud for those of you who can read.

Arrest records? You people make me laugh. A complaint was filed in Ohio over volunteers VOTING who were not residents of the state. I heard their Attorney General on the radio WITH MY OWN EARS. Go look the stuff up, morons.

    Geez

  36. EugeneDebs says:

    Tim Vaculik Says:

YOU are the stupidest piece of garbage to post on this site. I just read a couple of your posts to my HOUSEPLANT and he told me MAN that guy is stupid. So spare us you MORON version about who is a moron. On the day my IQ only DOUBLES yours I will immediatly commit supuku out of sheer embarassment

  37. Tim Vaculik says:

    EugeneDebs,

I’m going to make a wild-ass guess here – you are a Woman named Debra or “debs” from Eugene, OR. Am I right. If you are a woman, shame on you for being so foul-mouthed!

Anyway, your response is typical of those who cannot refute the truth and must therefor resort to personal attacks. How PATHETIC.

There’s more on the blatant VOTER FRAUD in Ohio, but you obviously don’t care about the truth, now do you kool-aid drinker?
