I mean, really, what you are admitting to is that you are kind of slow and/or stupid in that you can’t recognize a so called “trap” that you think has been laid out for you, and maneuver away from it. Not a real confidence builder with your constituents.

As an elected representative I think most people think you should be more alert, aware, and professional, and watch yourself so you don’t get into a foolish looking position. Or did the turnip truck just let you fall out and then kept on driving down the road?

It is one thing to say you misspoke and said something you did not mean, regret it, apologize for it, and move on. People can understand that. It is altogether different to keep on saying, “Yup, I’m kind of a stupid person and got tricked – again.”

We’ll have to agree to disagree about Russert. I think if you check the tape you’ll find he was far more likely to accept sound bites from republicans than dems. Think about his last debate performance with Repubs – he let McCain look him right in the eye and say, “I don’t know where you got that quote,” knowing full well that McCain had actually said he didn’t know much about economics on Russert’s own show. And, Russert just let it go. He would have come right back with a tape of the remark itself if he were grilling Hillary Clinton and you know it.
