McCain campaign refuses to let Carly Fiorina debate tech policy.

fiorina.jpgLast week after it published a Technology Policy Scorecard, Wired contacted the Obama and McCain campaigns for a debate on tech policy. After the Obama campaign offered former FCC chair Reed Hundt, Wired requested former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina for the McCain campaign. Fiorina’s people said she’d be happy to participate, but the McCain campaign “vetoed her.” Wired’s Nicholas Thompson writes:

I was told she’d [Fiorina] be happy to participate and her people were extremely accomodating and helpful. But she is controversial and the McCain people vetoed her — claiming that they wanted someone with policy expertise, not just general wisdom about technology. [...]

Finally, after some begging, approval appeared to come in for Ms. Fiorina to participate. It looked like the debate would happen: 12:30pm, on Thursday October 30th: Fiorina v. Hundt. But then: kaboom. Word comes again this morning that the McCain camp must, must have someone with policy expertise. And, since there’s no one else, the debate’s off.

Thompson notes that Fiorina “does know about policy issues.” It appears that the McCain campaign is still trying to keep Fiorina in hiding after she said that neither McCain nor Sarah Palin could run a major business.

How is it under the bus Carly?

    So…
    McCain doesn’t trust Fiorina
McCain doesn’t have anyone else with technology/policy expertise.
McCain doesn’t have a technology policy

So what is the point of having Carly Fiorina?

  3. the Lone Voice of Reason says:

McBlinky has no one else? How pathetic this campaign is becoming for them.

5th Estate, maybe they just like the sounds she makes when the bus rolls over her.

  4. Jim Wolf359 says:

    Paranoia will destroy ya.

  5. lurker says:

Why doesn’t she take her 40 plus millions and go away?

  6. miatch says:

So, McCain is like, look I only know one person who knows how to use a computer, and I’m mad at her.

  7. MapleStreet says:

Oooh – having one’s expertise dissed by Palin. That’s gotta hurt.

And as 5. 5th estate said, McCain doesn’t trust anyone with expertise.

    LVOReason…

    ROFL!

  10. 5th Estate says:

    Nevar… also funny!

    The choice is clear.

Palin needs to explain McCain’s technology policy.

  11. 5th Estate says:

    miatch! ROFL!

    you guys are killing me!

  12. LibertyLover says:

Poor Carly, One true statement and boom, out on her butt…

  13. the Lone Voice of Reason says:

No, seriously, they can’t get anyone else to do this? What about the people who read McBlinky’s emails for him?

  14. Coloradan says:

    Which is more sad/funny:

    * that McCain is throwing his strongest Silicon Valley asset under a bus? or that

    * he apparently has NO ONE ELSE who can talk about tech policy?

Talk about a campaign in its death throes.

  15. spencers mom says:

Why couldn’t they have sent the guy who hacked Palin’s Double Super Secret Yahoo! e-mail account? He seems like he’d be as ethically qualified as anyone else on the campaign, and clearly has more tech expertise than Palin ever imagined.

    PEACE

  16. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

It’s a sad state of affairs for the McCain campaign that they have zero people who can debate tech policy.

I think they are all going to crawl in a hole and bring the dirt over their heads and hide until November 4.

  17. ElBruce says:

So, just let it be a one sided “debate.”

I remember in 2004 when Bush refused to fill out AARP’s questionnaire, they ran all of Kerry’s answers next to “Bush declined to answer” for each question.

If they forfeit, show up and win anyways.

  18. MrSquirrel says:

They’re more afraid that Fiorina will get asked the 42 million dollar question again, about her golden parachute for ruining Hewlett-Packard.

  19. LiberalVoter says:

Fiorina discussing technology would be like Palin discussing what the Vice President does. Both are totally clueless. They might be able to mouth the words but have no idea what they mean.
