Remember everyone. Clinton raised the top marginal rate by 3.5%. Republicans warned that this would cause a serious recession or possibly a depression – and, of course, they were right – we all had to go through the great depression of the 90’s with its booming employment, decreasing poverty, decreasing abortion rates and exploding markets.

I also love the way conservatives pretend not to notice payroll taxes with their “how can you give a tax break to someone who pays no taxes” mantra… especially now that they took the Social Security money paid into the system by working people and literally gave it to the top 1% in tax cuts.

Evidently, if redistribution of wealth is upward and concentrated in a small percentage of wealthy people, it’s okay with conservatives.

If a 36% top marginal rate represents “socialism” while a 33% top marginal rate is “capitalism,” I’d like to know where the cutoff was. Somewhere between 33 and 36 we went socialist and we should find out exactly where the number is and, evidently, avoid it at all costs.

Since the only capital gains are in dividends this year, why should the wealthy be concerned about the capital gains taz rate at all? Shouldn’t they be more concerned that 40% of all equity in the world has vanished in the last fortythree days? That has drained more value from their portfolios then all taxes they will ever pay in their lifetimes.

It always mystifies me that rich folks are happy get vastly overcharged for luxury cars, dresses, hotels, private schools for their kids, country club fees, personal trainers fees, interiior decorators–and scream bloody murder if their tax bill goes up.
I think it’s because we don’t do it while telling them how wonderful they are.
I have a great idea:
Instead of calling it a ‘tax bracket’, let’s tell them they now have an “World-Class Executive Platinum IRS Membership”!
They get

• their own ”Personal IRS Liaison”

It’s just the latest buzz word from the McCain camp to denigrate anything that would help the middle class and the poor.

A solid government takes care of all of its people. Those who make more must pay more into the system in order for all people to thrive. Why that is anathema to the RNC and the McCain group should be appalling to anyone who believes in keeping a nation strong and cohesive.

They continue to believe that welfare for the multi-millionaire CEOs, WallStreet brokers and Bankers is not socialism, but Medicare and Social Security which benefit the poor and middle class are the dreaded “socialism.”

McCain has become a soulless man now, lying, hypocritical and mean-spirited.
