Bachmann: Obama isn’t ‘anti-American,’ but his views are.

bachmannsmile.jpgStill on the defensive over her McCarthyite comments that Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) “may have anti-American views,” Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) said on Dennis Miller’s radio show today that she doesn’t believe “that Barack Obama is anti-American.” Bachmann confused her own message later in the show when she said she was “concerned he may have anti-American views.” Listen here:

Bachmann’s contradictory statement is reminiscent of when Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told CNN that she wasn’t going to call Obama a socialist, but then added that his policies “sounds like socialism.” Coincidentally, some right wingers are already contemplating a “Palin/Bachmann 2012” dream ticket.

    - - Bachmann is JUST the sort of politician that Dennis Miller used to lampoon mercilessly. How sad.

And Michele, you keep digging and you're gonna pop up in China.

  5. Bozo The Neoclown Says:

keep talking botox beyotch bachmann. the last time you opened your stinkin trap, your opponent raised almost a million dollars. the time after that, the DNC infused his campaign with huge amounts of cash. talk your way right to the unemployment line you psycho

  6. rald84 Says:

George Allen's presidential hopes were dashed by macaca in 2006, lets hope the same happens to Bachmann this year and Palin in 2010 (gov election).

  13. Bozo The Neoclown Says:

i wonder if she's gonna blame jeebus for making her lose the election. afterall, she gave him props for getting her into politics to begin with.

  14. MCMetal Says:

    Palin/Bachmann in 2012 is a "dream ticket" ?

    For whom ??????????????????????

That's like running a Goofy/Pluto fu(king ticket , and expecting something positive to come from that........

  15. blue state bob Says:

Good lord woman. You hit rock bottom, but continued to dig, got a jackhammer, rented a backhoe, and I think now bought some dynamite. Keep going, Elwyn Tinklenberg will have your job on January 20, 2009

  20. Bob Says:

I got a whole ear full of 'Obama's anti-American' today. Nothing specific, of course. Just weird. I'm fine to disagree about taxes or whatever, but that just goes over the top. People really believe that a candidate for president is anti-America. Weird. Some radical Muslim has infiltrated the US and is now poised to take over the world. Weird.

  21. 5th Estate Says:

    Palin/Bachmann in 2012 is a “dream ticket”

I was thinking actually that Palin and Bachmann should have their won talk show together where they can discuss the issues of the day.
It could be called "The Views" .

  22. Bozo The Neoclown Says:

well bob, that's what eight years of fear and smear will breed in people...stupidity

  23. MCMetal Says:

Palin/Bachmann..........Imagine hearing those 2 chuckleheads (together) , and especially their proposals , in the voices they have.

Cats fu(king in the middle of the night would sound sweeter..........

  24. Trixie Says:

I just returned from a two day conference in her area. Happily, her campaign signs are few and far between. The bad news is, the winger local radio blowhards are claiming it's the work of MN-DOT.......see, her opponent was the commissioner under Jesse. Not like people can think on their own or anything....

  25. dasm Says:

This woman is truly an idiot. She obviously doesn't even understand her own words. And she was elected??

  26. gummitch Says:

It's worth clicking on the Palin/Bachmann link, just to discover this gem: "Here’s Bachman at a debate a few years back, making more sense than any American politician since Sept 11, 2001." Oh, yeah. She makes a lot of sense; that's the debate where she blamed the unrest in France on cable tv.

  27. 5th Estate Says:

blusestatebob : "Keep going, Elwyn Tinklenberg will have your job on January 20, 2009"

Senator Tinklenberg! I like the sound of that!
I guess I'll be adding his name to my spell-check dictionary.

  28. scytherius Says:

Is there a Republican left, ANYWHERE, with a goddamned brain?

  29. Imichael Says:

A Palin/Bachmann ticket is what SNL is dreaming for. I remember seeing in a movie when the black pilot said that they had to be twice as good as their white counterpart pilots during WWII. Why is it that the Democrat candidate has to be twice as smart then his Republican counterpart. Could you imagine if Palin was running as a Democrat VP? I know that could never happen since since the DNC would have weeded her out long time ago.

  30. misshusseinmolly Says:

Bachmann appears to be absolutely terrified of "socialism" -- like it was leprosy or something. (I think we used to feel that way about communism during the Cold War).

If she would look at Obama's proposals and compare them to FDR's New Deal (um...she HAS heard of Franklin Roosevelt, hasn't she?), she would find that Obama isn't nearly as "socialist" as FDR was. Yet the New Deal lifted us out of the Great Depression, it's given us programs we still use today, and FDR is regarded by historians as one of our greatest presidents.

Right now, we are in another bad situation, and we badly need someone with real leadership to fix it.

Would Bachmann go on record claiming that FDR was evil because he was "socialist"? It wouldn't surprise me -- she seems to be saying anything these days.

  31. osage Says:

Those who lack intellectual and or emotional depth have no choice but to see the world as either black or white. It is no more anti-American to question our leaders and offer dissenting views than it is to have a two party political system and or a government with checks and balances. A one party system and or a government without checks and balances is dicatortorship. What is clearly anti-American is calling someone's views anti-American because you don't understand them.

  32. Bob Says:

The real sad thing is all the people that were bombarding me think Obama will be assassinated if elected.

  33. 5th Estate Says:

On the Andy Card-Palin post this morning I wrote:

You’ve got to be kidding me!

(I’ll be cut-and pasting that every time from now until January 20th. I don't know why I didn’t think of it sooner! )

So here we are, and the original comment applied to this different subject still works!

  34. 5th Estate Says:

Imichael... The movie is The Tuskegee Airmen (the tails of their planes were painted red and bomber crews were so impressed with their escort flying that they;d specifically request them for their missions into Europe. They never lost a bomber). Great movie, extraordinary story.

  35. dbadass Says:

I'd say something intelligent but I always get all flustered by that whole pearl necklace thing and that meth crazed visage...

misshusseinmolly: Would Bachmann go on record claiming that FDR was evil because he was “socialist”? It wouldn’t surprise me — she seems to be saying anything these days.

She wouldn't understand what you were talking about. I mean look, she's claiming that a person;s views are distinct from the person! Cognitive dissonance at it's most extreme.

  37. I. B. Leary Says:

Palin/Bachmann in 2012? I guess they have given up on this election. That will give us 2 terms.

  38. Bob Says:

They only have a few day to tie Obama to 9/11. How are they going to do that?

  39. republicans hate facts Says:

Bachmann isn't an insane fascist, but her views are! ROTFL!!!

  40. LiberalVoter Says:

Bob Says: They only have a few day to tie Obama to 9/11. How are they going to do that?

Bob, they are already doing it in a future way. They are springing off a Biden statement that the next president will be tested saying we will get hit again if Obama becomes president. Of course, if SENATOR McCain knows how to stop it and doesn't because he is not president does that make him anti-American? Hmmm

  41. MrSquirrel Says:

This has cost her dearly in the polls... we can only hope that will translate into reality. :crossing fingers:

The more she opens her mouth, the better. She picked the wrong time to go for some national attention with her wacko ideology.

Her opponent was deluged with a million dollars of contributions within a week, out of nowhere, because so many people were revolted by her airhead views.

Woohoo! And Franken is pulling ahead of Norm Coleman! I as a Minnesotan am just loving this down-ticket backlash from the McCain/Palin campaign train wreck!

  42. Coloradan Says:

Pray that we don't have Michele Barfman to kick around for much longer!

  43. The Republic of Stupidity Says:

Nice to see she's traded in her shovel for a back hoe.

You just keep right on digging, Michele... you'll get to China yet.

  45. ctrotter Says:

When I was a pup, one of my favorite persons was a teacher who had spent eighteen months as a German prisoner of war. He assisted the victims of a Gulag after Patton’s forces overwhelmed his special corner of Germany. In reality, he had to escape from Patton’s people by bribing a GI guard. His descriptions of what he saw left a scar in my mind until this day. Over the years, I’ve wondered about the psychological make-up of those German soldiers who performed such atrocities on their prisoners. What was the man who injected the Zyklon B into the gas chambers thinking? What force would drive any human to carry-out such an act? Over the years I’ve studied every type of personality. As I’ve sifted through personality types, I think I’ve identified the Zyklon B profile. Hitler, Stalin, and a host of other historically significant tyrants. But, there are lesser players with the same capacities…so many of them are die-hard Republicans!

I wonder how the people in her district could possibly vote for her and what kind of people they are. Then I think about nearby Rep. Jean Schmidt and I understand...a little.

  47. Max-1 Says:

    .

    Dear Michelle,
I won't call you a Fascist, just your views...
The fact that you went there with the "bait" from the "trap" that was set and ran with it is symptomatic of a deeper belief that on some intrinsic level, the assumption of "Anti-American" was correct, otherwise you would have corrected the "baiter" and refused to step into that "trap". However, in your pitiful attempt to clear your name and correct your statement, you still haven't denounced the insinuation of "Anti-American" sentiments, rather just the opposite, you're still running with the "bait" and NOT closing that "trap" of yours.

  49. Abu Ben Hussein Leporello Says:

Astonishing to watch the Bachmann Stupid Overdrive in action! The only positive about this is the huge positive she's been for Tinklenburg. Here's hoping she's gennerated a wave he'll ride all the way to the House.

  55. kasinca Says:

It is fairly clear in the Bible that when Jesus comes back to earth he will not know people like this Michelle Bachmann. And she claims to be some holier than thou. She should read that book she totes around all the time.

The woman looks crazy. Her eyes are always big as saucers and bulging out of her head. She looks like she is about to expode out of her skin and run away at 100mph. Reminds me a bit of Richard Lewis only Bachmann is just plain mean. I wonder if she has heard of Ativan or Xanax!

  61. Bad Eye Says:

All I remember is Bachmann standing at the podium at the Republican Convention and speaking a few lines and then smiling that goofy smile and looking around at the crowd waiting for a response -- any response -- and then getting nothing. She did this over and over, and the crowd seemed rather bored with her.

Many republikkkans despise FDR and his socialist programs. Since Ronny Raygun was president the republikkkans have tried to get rid of his *socialist* programs like social security, etc.

My very republikkkan sister calls him a socialist but then she thinks the whole democratic party are unChristian and socialists or communists. Of course she and others do not realize that these *socialist* programs helped put Americans back to work during the depression and also built our countries highways, dams and other infrastructure.

  69. biggreenpea Says:

I wonder...it seems I recall a point when right Christians who hate gays did this neat trick where they separated being gay, or homosexual as a natural occurring human experience, from the act. I should say they created a distinction between the act and the person so they can hate the act not the person, forcing a false, dogmatic definition onto human sexuality.

Separating Barack-the-socialist from Barack with socialist beliefs seems to be another trick they are playing. First she can deny her personal attack is personal, then she adds to the fear Americans have of the word socialism. Personally I do not think most Americans could discourse on socialism, Bachmann included. We have been lulled into accepting specific economic models, which incidentally also embrace greed. Profit motive in health care, just fine. Free health care never! Calling Obama's tax plan socialist is just another way for selfish rich folk to to say "get your hands off my stinkin' money", without having to actually have a discussion about fair policy.
