This morning, the McCain campaign released a new ad blasting Joe Biden for suggesting that our enemies will “test the mettle” of the new President. With ominous music, dark overtones, and images of potential conflict, the ad overtly states another potential attack “doesn’t have to happen” if McCain is elected. But McCain’s own allies – Joe Lieberman and the Bush White House – have asserted that it is likely to happen:
Lieberman: “Our enemies will test the new president early.”
White House spokeswoman Dana Perino: “I think Senator Lieberman, unfortunately, could be right.”
Watch a compilation:
The republics want it both ways…As usual.
October 24th, 2008 at 11:08 amMore fear and smear, brought to you from the party of fear and smear.
October 24th, 2008 at 11:12 amIf our enemies *DO* test us – I fear McCain’s reaction far more…
October 24th, 2008 at 11:15 amNinety percent of the population fear a mcbush presidency far more than a terrorist attack.
October 24th, 2008 at 11:16 amLemme get this straight — we are less likely to experience a terrorist attack if McCain gets elected because…I got it!! When McCain sits in the Oval Office, he will radiate magic vibrations that effectively act as a shield around the entire country!
Wonder why he never told us about these superpowers before?
October 24th, 2008 at 11:17 amFear, fear, fear, fear…… (sung to the tune of Mpython’s “spam, spam, spam…”).
(Spooky, shaky voice) “Only the republicans can protect you. Fear, fear, fear, fear…..”
Funny… how LONG are we supposed to need this republican protection? Apparently the “protection” offered by the republicans is exactly like treating the symptoms and not the disease, thus allowing the disease to continue and fester.
Why are the republicans complete chickensh(t cowards, afraid of everything to include their own shadows? And afraid to even fight their own battles?
October 24th, 2008 at 11:17 amNo one EVER points this out, despite all his blathering, that Senator John McCain has NEVER BEEN TESTED AS A COMMANDER EITHER!!!!!!! This bears repeating, the man was a terrible student, a terrible pilot, a terrible person (according to vets who served with him), a propaganda machine for N. Vietnam while in captivity. He has never lead men into battle, much less planned military strategies either, despite his claiming that he knows how to win wars (playing Stratego with Cindy does not count)! BOTH candidates have equal experience in responding to an attack, none. Barrack Obama has shown that he has the calm, determined intelligence to handle such a situation. John McCain’s temperment should give any voter cotemplating voting for him pause for concern.
October 24th, 2008 at 11:18 amAm I alone in thinking that what Biden said was right on target? He said nothing about terrorism specifically – he just said that some kind of international crisis as likely to occur in the first six months of an Obama administration. That doesn’t necessarily have to be a terrorist attack – it could be a sectarian flareup in Lebanon, a blockade by Russia, a genocide in the DRC, economic collapse in China, or a tsunami in South Asia.
It’s McCain who’s injecting terrorism into it, and suggesting that his magic powers will somehow deflect an attack.
October 24th, 2008 at 11:18 amWhat makes them so damn confident McCain wont be tested? Because Americas enemies are oh so “afraid of McCain”? Right..
They’re not the least afraid of an old hotheaded uneducated warmongering fool like McCain and his clueless bimbo sidekick. If anything he will be much much easier to bait into making more stupid rash decisions like starting another costly war in the ME.
Its the American people that should fear a McCain presidency
October 24th, 2008 at 11:23 amJust in time for Halloween.
October 24th, 2008 at 11:23 amBOOO!
“Bush made us safer” — that’s what they’ve been telling us for 7 years now. Safer that what? Than before 9/11? Because before 9/11 even the republican base was not living in at the level of fear that they live in now. So… we’re safer because of the republicans, but we’re not safer and we should be afraid and we need the republicans to save us because they made us safer, but we’re not safer. And Biden is crazy for suggesting that the terrorists might attack to test the new president, but if you don’t elect McCain there will be an attack.
WTF?
I just want to know — is there any koolaid left in the world? Shouldn’t these guys be imploding or exploding or something?
WTF?
October 24th, 2008 at 11:23 amThe terrorists are afraid of McCain. He might just get all mavericky and crash an A-4 Skyhawk into their cave.
October 24th, 2008 at 11:26 amYeah, well they sure tested the Chimp and found him wanting.
They tested Clenis, attacking the WTC in ‘93. Clenis-istas caught and jailed the ones who tested him, not by going to war, but by doing police-work.
SO there’s every chance that they could be right. But that doesn’t make Mc(umstain any the better candidate. Was it Drifty yesterday or the day before ssaid: What I fear is that McCunmstain WOULDN’T sleep through the three am phone call, but would awaken all confused and blundering and blow all of us to hell in his dotage…
October 24th, 2008 at 11:28 amWhat a bunch of bedwetters the Repuglycans have become.
October 24th, 2008 at 11:30 amIt’s a setup for the next Bin Laden videotape, released just days before the election.
October 24th, 2008 at 11:32 amThe wingnut pundits have been trying to tout Biden’s remarks as a criticism of Obama and conveniently leave out the part where Biden said Obama has “steel in his spine.”
October 24th, 2008 at 11:35 amA Patriot Acting Says:
BOTH candidates have equal experience in responding to an attack, none.
Only McCain has been captured by the enemy. JM is the only one who’s put himself in a position to be manipulated by the enemy which resulted in leverage that could be used against the US. Unless you consider repubs to be the enemy, that is.
October 24th, 2008 at 11:38 amNot mentioned are all the recent attacks on Bush’s shift:
1. Chemical attack on Dayton Ohio mosque
2. Bomb in St. Louis area parking garage
3. Threatening letters & white powder sent to over 50 Chase banks
“God help them if something happens…” Frances Townsend
It’s happening now, Fran.
October 24th, 2008 at 11:38 amgummitch Says:
“…Obama has “steel in his spine.””
Whereas Senator McCain has a little poop in his diaper. And a little spittle in the corner of his mouth. And a strong desire for a nap.
October 24th, 2008 at 11:41 amI think this is now more pertinent than ever, sadly.
Liberalism is trust of the people tempered by prudence. Conservatism is distrust of the people tempered by fear.– William E. Gladstone, British Prime Minister, 1809-1898
I just wish it weren’t.
October 24th, 2008 at 11:42 amI refuse to be afraid of terrorists.
I refuse to be afraid of Republicans.
I refuse to be afraid of George W. Bush.
I refuse to be afraid of Dick Cheney.
I refuse to be afraid of McCain.
I refuse to live in fear.
October 24th, 2008 at 11:45 amMcCain says they won’t test him because he’s already been tested. How? When? Where? More of the same old BS, “I’ll catch bin Laden, I know how.”
October 24th, 2008 at 11:57 amConsidering how small the map that the Republicans consider to encompass “the real America” has become, I am not sure McPalin plans on defending much beyond the deep south and a few spots in rural Ohio and Pa. that no self-respecting terrorist would ever bother with.
Funny how the people who fall for this kind of garbage tend to live the areas least likely to get hit.

That’s the short list of just recent events — the list is a lot longer.
But, hey, it’s not a terrist attck unless Bush says it is. So, see, those things were just normal criminal stuff that happens all the time, but not terrist activity. You’re safer becasue of Bush, but you’re also in danger and only the republicans can save you. See? It’s simple.
Republicans are whiney cowards: ooohhhhh, be afraid of all the sacry dark skinned people, and anyone else not republican. be sacred…… oooohhhhhhh……..
October 24th, 2008 at 12:00 pmClinton probably would have rid the world of Bin Laden if the Republican congress wasn’t busy persecuting him for no reason and then accusing him of “wagging the dog” to change the subject every time he took action.
October 24th, 2008 at 12:01 pmAs usual McCain is a day late and a dollar short. The world economy is tanking and McCain is crying about terrorist attacks.
October 24th, 2008 at 12:02 pmShayne Says:
McCain says they won’t test him because he’s already been tested. How? When? Where?
How? “Make these films and we will give you priveledges.”
When? 70’s (?)
Where? Hanoi Hilton
Tested, and failed miserably. They already KNOW that they can push ol’ “get off my lawn, American troops in Vietnam are war criminals” pappy around.
October 24th, 2008 at 12:03 pm-more abortion clinic bombings
-more doctor shootings
-more churches shot up by rightwingnuts
-more progressive politicians threatened
-more white power going through the mail
The usual right wing stuff
October 24th, 2008 at 12:11 pmBTW McCain has already been tested recently. And he has failed catastrophically. If he cant even run a campaign without panicking at the first sign of trouble in the polls, how the hell is suppose to run the entire country?
October 24th, 2008 at 12:22 pmMcCain would be tested and he would fail miserably. Look at the escalating s*** show that is Afghanistan – it is the poster-war symbolizing the failure of the neoncon doctrine of preemption. McCain would follow Bush’s idiotic lead, propping up dictators with borrowed billions and waging mindlessly violent campaigns against the wrong nations. Republicans have no credibility on any front – domestic or international. Hey up there, Proud American Liberal, check out my post Spirit of Joe McCarthy Possesses Michele Bachmann. I think you might like my comments (and it has video clips).
October 24th, 2008 at 12:25 pmCome to think of it, didn’t he have a bizzarre series of actions with the whole “financial meltdown emergency” debacle? Is that the kind of decapitated chicken reaction we can expect from him? You betcha.
October 24th, 2008 at 12:32 pmHow is electing him going to stop terrorists from trying anything? Does he have a hotline to Osama Bin Laden’s cave?

“How is electing him going to stop terrorists from trying anything? Does he have a hotline to Osama Bin Laden’s cave?”
I’m sure if McCain were to steal the election that Chimpy would give him OBL’s office/fax/cell numbers. Might come in handy for future domestic terror threats by the GOP.
October 24th, 2008 at 1:07 pmAnd don’t forget Michael Chertoff, head of Homeland Security. He said the same thing the other day.
Is there any limit to how low McCain will go? By the time he returns to the Senate he will be the most hated person in the Senate. Right now the only two Senators who will give him the time of day are Graham and Lieberman.
I predict that McCain will retire from the Senate, for health reasons, shortly after he loses the race.
October 24th, 2008 at 1:40 pmMcCain must be good against terror. Why else would Bin Laden endorse him ?
Seriously though, I don’t care which one is Prez – America’s underwear is hanging out enough that we are ripe to be a target.
Economy in the dumps. Military overextended on 2 wars. The only difference I see is that we can deal with a younger person who is willing to try diplomatic channels to stave off an attack -or- we can get a volatile old coot who sings “Bomb, Bomb, Iran”.
October 24th, 2008 at 4:04 pmLieberman added, “If no one else does, Mossad will.”
October 24th, 2008 at 4:25 pmReply to #8 hussein toasterhead:
I was thinking the same thing last night. Frankly, I think this is a non-issue. Of course, new leaders are going to be tested in international relations. Hell, they get tested by opposing party in domestic affairs. Are the right wingers suggesting that, if Biden hadn’t made the comment, the ‘bad guys’ wouldn’t have thought of it…?? WTF
October 24th, 2008 at 5:16 pmCovert terrorist attacks will continue as long as there are no real investigations into who actually did them. The destruction of the WTC on September 11, 2001 has been proven by independant US experts that they were destroyed by Demolition and not the Airliners that were put there to terrorize the People into supporting the already planned invasions into the Middle East. The real enemy was never the people in remote mountian caves of Afghanistan or Iraq.
October 24th, 2008 at 6:23 pmJust like the cold war when everyone who didn’t agree with the U.S. was either a communist or a communist sympathizer. toki This poor crazy guy spent half a decade being tortured because a bunch of stupid politicians araç sorgulama were sure the NVA was in bed with the Russians (minimal help) and/or the Chinese (ancient enemy of the vietnamese). ssk sorgulama You would think he would have learned from others’ mistakes. Guess not. Republicans need an enemy. key ödemeleri This century it apparently will be all Muslims, health all of whom must be alQaeda operatives.
