Washington Post correction: O’Reilly is not a ‘right-wing pundit’; he’s an ‘independent.’
On Oct. 22, Washington Post media reporter Howard Kurtz ran a story about Bill O’Reilly’s lucrative new deal with Fox News — a four-year contract under which he will make more than $10 million annually. Accompanying the story was a picture of O’Reilly with the label “right-wing pundit.” But in today’s Corrections, the Washington Post says it was “incorrect” to use that term:

Just recently, as Kieth Olbermann pointed out yesterday, he made an utter idiot out of himself for the 50th time, by arrogantly misstating how long ago it was that Gordon Liddy explained how to properly murder federal law enforcement personnel– it was ten years ago in fact, not 20. All of this in the context of claiming some great terrorist status of Ayers, established 40 years ago. Of course that was back when people like the ugly American McCain was helping the USA kill 5000 people a week with his F4’s napalm, anti-personnel weaponry, and apparently 2.5 World War II’s worth of aerial bombs, which ultimately totaled nearly 4 million people. It’s never mentioned as the true context of Ayers.
If he wanted to talk about a time frame around 20ish years ago, he can always mention the fellow right winger Timothy McVeigh, who murdered 170 Americans, while occupying the conservative fringe, just where Ronald Reagan, Rush Limbaugh, and other right wingers pushed him with their lies. At that time, we heard numerous tender explanations of why we should have sympathized with the extremist, from such as Newt Gingrich. So much for domestic terrorists.
But in any case, he has inspired a great new sandwich, the Billo: Falafel on Loofah bread.
