Palin: Stevens verdict ‘shines a light on the corrupting influence of the big oil service company.’

Hotline reports that Sarah Palin issued a statement about the guilty decision in the Ted Stevens corruption case:

Thanks for your patience there. It’s a sad day for Alaska, and a sad day for Senator Stevens and his family. The verdict shines a light though on the corrupting influence of the big oil service company up there in Alaska that was allowed to control too much of our state. And that control was part of the culture of corruption that I was elected to fight. And that fight must always move forward regardless of party affiliation or seniority or even past service. And as governor of the state of Alaska, I’ll carefully monitor now the situation, and I’ll take any appropriate action as needed. In the meantime, I do ask that the people of Alaska join me in respecting the workings of our judicial system, and I’m confident that Senator Stevens, from this point on, will do the right thing for the state of Alaska.

CNN reports, “Palin did not respond when asked if she will vote for Sen. Stevens and promptly boarded the campaign plane.”

Update Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) reacts:

This verdict is a personal tragedy for our colleague Ted Stevens, but it is an important reminder that no man is above the law. Senator Stevens must now respect the outcome of the judicial process and the dignity of the United States Senate.

Umm, Sarah, does this mean you would take on Halliburton if you somehow managed to gain national office?

  2. paleolib says:

Big Ted’s conviction isn’t the only thing shining a light on Alaskan corruption Sarah. Shall we talk about your house next?

  3. misshusseinmolly says:

Sarah — are we expected to believe that Stevens was just an innocent lamb who would have been a saint had he not been “corrupted” by the big bad oil machine?

Shouldn’t we be concerned that YOU come from the same state containing the same monster?

  4. southrnbelle says:

Stevens – a corrupt politician Palin has aggreesively supported since DAY 1!!!

  5. RUCerious says:

Ummmm, weren’t those the companies ImPalin was pallin around with?

  6. RUCerious says:

I’m confident that Senator Stevens, from this point on, will do the right thing for the state of Alaska.

No, no he’s not going to hang himself…

  8. rastaman says:

HAHAHAHAHA……OH DEAR GOD……CAN IT GET ANY BETTER?

SAVE THESE WORDS…..THEY’LL BE HELPFUL WHEN SARAH IS CONVICTED OF THE SAME CRIMES AS TEDDY.

  9. spencers mom says:

Any bets on whether or not Stevens has dirt on Princess Bobblehead? I’m guess yes, and when he realizes that she’s throwing him under a bus to make herself look good, I’m also guessing he’d be willing to sing.

Can you say “reduction in sentencing for fingering others” Sarah?

    PEACE

  10. LiberalVoter says:

spencers mom, that would be great. Hopefully Stevens has a tight grip on Palin;s ankle as he goes under the bus.

  11. 666lattes says:

So, I guess we’re putting the “partisan witch-hunt” schtick to bed for the moment…

By the way, is the corrupting influence that of God’s “big oil service company” for which you asked people to pray or is this the one that the Devil owns?

Something tells me that the 2nd biggest reason she was chosen as McCain’s VP pick was for a fast-track to ANWR drilling… But, maybe I’m giving them too much credit.

  12. RobertSeattle says:

By Sarah Palin’s own defintion of “pal’ing around with”, She “pal’d around with” someone who is a convicted criminal.

  13. impeachcheneythenbush says:

Hmmm…the “devil made him do it” defense. What b.s. In all cases of corruption, it takes TWO to tango.

  14. paleolib says:

Surprisingly, Fox “News” actually has Big Ted identified as a Republican on the screen graphic. They look so sad when they talk about the conviction [giggle].

  15. Marie says:

Sarah, You will now be branded as you have branded — you associate with convicted felons.

  16. Wayne says:

Shorter Palin –”Its all the fault of that corrupting, big mean oil company. Its their fault they fooled Stevens into being a crook.”

    Yeah, right.

Personal responsibility, unless you are Republican, then its everyone elses fault.

Wow. They actually reported it? I’m amazed. I figured they’d wait until two in the morning and slip it by on a chyron.

Rollins: Palin to be most popular Republican
    CNN - 5 hours ago
(CNN) — Republican strategist and CNN contributor Ed Rollins spoke with “American Morning” anchor John Roberts on Monday on the status of the presidential campaigns and the weekend’s events leading up to the November 4 vote.

    who knew?

  19. texaslady says:

Uhmmmmmm and what about the reported Viking stove among other trinkets you gave Stevens, Ms.Palin ?

  20. Zooey says:

Um, Ms Palin, that light shining in YOUR eyes is not the sun.

    Just sayin’…

  21. freeman says:

Don’t worry Ted ,with your connections I’m sure you will be given a cell you can see Russia from .

  22. gummitch says:

    Zooey Says:

Um, Ms Palin, that light shining in YOUR eyes is not the sun.

    It’s Putin’s steel gaze!

  23. Gregor Samsa says:

So, would it be fair to say Sara Palin has been “pallin’ around” with corrupt politicians and convicted felons?

Maybe we should also ask her to fully disclose her ties to this culture of corruption -after all, it wasn’t long ago she was happily endorsing Stevens and having her picture taken with him.

  24. Nevar says:

Palin: “As Governor of the State of Alaska, I will carefully now monitor the situation and I’ll take any appropriate action as needed. In the meantime, I ask the people of Alaska to join me in respecting the workings of our judicial system and I’m confident that Senator Stevens from this point on will do the right thing for the people of Alaska,” she also said.”

Kinda sounds like she wants to keep her day job… just in case things don’t work out to well for her next week.

  25. SP Biloxi says:

Palin: “The verdict shines a light though on the corrupting influence of the big oil service company up there in Alaska that was allowed to control too much of our state.”

lol She threw Uncle Ted under the bus.

Memo to Palin: Will your Alaska lawmakers feel the same about you if you get indicted for Troopergate or any other crime?

  26. Zooey says:

Looks like Sen Stevens got thrown under the Straight Jacket Express ™.

  27. gummitch says:

“As Governor of the State of Alaska, I will carefully now monitor the situation and I’ll take any appropriate action as needed.”

Oooh, I get shivers. She’s locked and loaded. Except she apparently knows as much about being governor as she does about being VP. You don’t get no action, Sarah!

  28. texaslady says:

Poor mccain, his tiny brain got the best of him and he will fall under palin’s high heel like all the rest that gave her a boost up. Thank you Sarah for regressing about 10 years the progress educated females have made breaking the glass ceiling.

  29. texaslady says:

I agree with the poster at the beginning, just how does one afford a huge home on a paved road by a lake while raising 4 kids on a combined income of $160,000 a year ? Funny how that home was built the same time the money pit stadium was built. All politicians cheat but some are more honest about it than others, don’t play the common person when you are using taxpayers’s money.

  30. pete says:

Would those be the same “corrupting oil interests” who pay the “first dude”?

  31. Bob says:

She’s a p.a.l. to stevens and she’s campaining that only her ‘mavrick’ teIam can end corruption in DC. It’s ironic in an anti-American sort of way.

  32. Bozo The Neoclown says:

hey flailin palin! you forgot to mention this greed and corruption was from your own party which, seems to either a) breed these characteristics in people or b) attracts people to it’s ranks with these characteristics.

  33. tombaker says:

She shouldn’t dis on her Sugar Daddies that way.

Silly girl, the big, national-league righties don’t operate that way. If you’re lucky, you’ll only get shipped down to Heather Wilson’s ranch for re-orientation – if you really tick them off then you’d best get used to the idea of becoming the Tonya Harding of politics.

  34. oldtree says:

Those quotes are phonies, right? Palin didn’t really say that? Reid didn’t really say that? Only criminals would back up their pals, Have Palin and Reid both taken Veco money too?
It seems very disgusting not to call for his immediate resignation. But that is what you get when it is all about corruption on the inside, and lying to the populace on the other. 40 years of taking bribes, do you think?

  35. ElBruce says:

    Thanks for your patience there.

Clearly she wrote this joke herself.

  36. MapleStreet says:

and I’m confident that Senator Stevens, from this point on, will do the right thing for the state of Alaska.

And everyone clap if you believe in fairies. Come on clap louder. Shout I DO believe in fairies. I DO I DO I DO!

And is this the big oil that your are an expert on Sarah ?

  37. Max-1 says:

    .

    Well…
… We know she sleeps with separatists and now we know she palls around with felons.

    .

  38. Tawdry says:

    With a there there here
    And a there there there
    Everywhere a there there
    Old McPalin has a problem
    Yes she has.
Her over use of the word there drives me up a wall. Shouldn’t the person running for president or vice president use the English language properly? So many other intelligent, qualified people out there….
