Palin Forces Local Reporter To Submit Topics For Interview ‘Ahead Of Time’ For Pre-Clearance

Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) granted an interview to a local CBS affiliate in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday, much of which was filled with talking points that Palin has repeated in a number of local interviews recently.

However, after the interview, reporter Cynthia Fodor revealed that she had to submit the interview topics in order to talk to Palin, something she called “not standard procedure”:

HOST: Governor Palin, as we know, doesn’t give a lot of interviews so did you have a lot of time to chat with her?

FODOR: No, in fact this was the only one she gave today and we were limited to about five minutes of time which is not a lot of time and we had to submit which topics we wanted to discuss ahead of time which is not standard procedure.

Watch it:

Fodor’s revelations come at a particular disturbing time. Just last week, press freedom advocates Reporters Without Borders released its annual Press Freedom Index, which found that the United States ranked 36 out of 173 countries — a spot also shared by Bosnia and Herzegovina.

But this isn’t the first time the McCain-Palin campaign has attempted to control Palin’s interviews. Earlier this month, a local Bangor, Maine affiliate declined an interview when Palin’s handlers said they would grant the interview only if the McCain campaign could choose the reporter.

Palin can’t be trusted to speak even when she is told the topics in advance. Bet that “c” word is being used often in Camp McCain.

Still think you made a good pick, Johnny?

    Eight days and counting…

    PEACE

    Translation:
The governor selected the questions she would answer.

    1)
This is nothing that influences the index.

Why are so many TV news hosts blondes?

  4. Tawdry says:

Well, what a surprise! Kind of reminds you of the old USSR. And yesterday she called Barack Obama a Communist.

  5. RUCerious says:

    ImPalin ~ joke (bad), farce(tragedy), loser(in 8 days).

She’s a blight on the American Political scene.

  6. spencers mom says:

I guess knowing the topics in advance would be the requisite precondition for meeting with foreign leaders under a Palin administration.

    Now I get it.

    PEACE

  7. 5th Estate says:

And yet Fodor describes it merely as “not standard procedure.”

That’s all she’s got to say about it?

She’s just been handed a STORY, and she has no idea what to do with it! Pathetic.

“Palin Forces Local Reporter To Submit Topics For Interview ‘Ahead Of Time’ For Pre-Clearance”

    – - The REAL story here is what the hell Palin is doing campaigning in a state, Iowa, where Obama has a double-dgit lead. The Rogue Warrior Diva has jettisoned McCain and is already stumping for 2012.

  9. barfly says:

In nine days, you can bet she’ll be anxious to give unscripted interviews – to grind an axe on poor John.

She’ll have plenty of time to talk to reporters, on the plane ride back to palookaville.

  10. sectionop92 says:

Ah, I see the definition of “transparency” now.

You become the submissive to dominatrix Sarah’s whims or you’re just another clearance item at Macy’s.

Before she shot the moose, did it stomp her in the head for 15 minutes?

  11. 5th Estate says:

BTW, Palin is managing her ‘wardrobe malfunction’ by saying “once this campaign is over I’ll go back to shopping at my favorite consignment store”–which apparently is not how the campaign wanted her to address the issue.

Oh there you go again, Sarah, bein’ all mavericky and stuff!

  12. 5th Estate says:

Sarah Palin’s transparency: transparently ignorant, megalomaniacal, professionally incompetent and utterly self-serving.

  13. Nevar says:

In a couple of years Sarah will be running that consignment shop for a living.
She’ll have all kinds of handbags and glad rags, very expense stuff, totally useless in the long Alaskan winter nights.
Maybe Cindy can work part time, and bring some of her orange and yellow stuff in time for Halloween.

  14. sectionop92 says:

I’d like to see those receipts from Sarah’s “favorite” consignment store. Then we find out it’s just a front in a shell game, where Sarah has her packages sent from her other “favorite” stores…where the clothes smell “fresh and vibrant”.

Sarah doesn’t dress for less…unless she needs the publicity.

  15. getplaning says:

I guess they saw (wrote) the interview of Joe Biden on WTF TV and decided to avoid any uncomfortable moments.

If she gets away with Troopergate, and manages to get re-elected in Alaska, does she really think Mitt Romney will simply step aside in 2012 and let her have the nomination?

And even then, the radicals and Evangelicals have been marginalized, as they got John McCain in the first place.

Sarah is even more delusional than we thought.

    ““““““““““““““““““““““““
OR perhaps this is part of the strategy for the media to use after McCain steals the election? Use the Bradley effect and the fact that McCain/Palin must have really convinced people in places like Iowa to vote for them. Which States will be involved in the theft of another presidency?

And the name of that consignment store? Out of the Closet!

I’m guessing the irony is totally lost on Princess Bobblehead.

    PEACE

Seems we’re both going to be disappointed.

Better yet she will become a drunken bar whore seen hanging out at the local bars in Wasilla going home with a different man each night while Todd is away on his snowmachine and 6 year old Piper is forced to raise Trig while her two older sisters whore around like mommy.

  21. Nevar says:

    Contest! Name that consignment shop!

  23. stateofthedivision says:

Is this how she got through one of those six colleges? Pick the right professor, one who’ll take her poor performance and give Sarah a passing grade.

  24. Tawdry says:

The AIDs Healthcare Foundation in California and Florida has raised the issue of trademark infringement by the for-profit resale store in Anchorage where Palin says she frugally buys her clothes. They have suggested that she donate her $150,000 wardrobe to the foundation.

  25. liberalinaredstate says:

I was happy to hear that the Anchorage Daily News is endorsing Obama. I wonder if AK will want her back. My guess is she’s thinking she’s above it all……I’m guessing she’ll move to FOX News…..Sean Hannity is already fantasizing about it……I like what Tina Fey about her…”If she’s in the white house, I’m leaving earth” My sentiments exactly

  26. progressive homeschooler says:

Contrast that with Biden’s Orlando interview. One can’t talk to reporters without pre-approved questions; the other can mop the floor with any question a shill reporter asks him.

  27. IgnoranceIsNotBliss says:

I’ve said it time and time again – don’t cover her. No press conference, no coverage what-so-ever. Force her to have an unscripted press conference.

  28. misshusseinmolly says:

In order for the media to maintain any kind of journalistic integrity at all and not become mere mindless mouthpieces, they need to state their interview policies and abide by them.

When Sarah Palin makes an absurd demand like this one, the station should say, “thanks but no thanks”, refuse to interview under those conditions, and do their story on Palin without the actual interview (instead, include a statement of exactly why Palin was not being interviewed directly).

Two things would happen here. First, Palin wouldn’t get the exposure her interview would otherwise bring. Second, she would be shown for the coward she is. If this happened with EVERY station who wanted to interview her, she would be toast.

Unfortunately, so many media outlets (particularly broadcast media) have already allowed themselves to be pushed around — so much that “journalistic integrity” should be on the endangered list.

  29. liberal traitor says:

She just wanted to make sure that this interview would be held with the same level of poise, decorum, respect, and neutrality as West’s interview of Biden.

  30. MapleStreet says:

Since several mentioned Wardrobe-Gate. Did anyone else hear her say that afterwards she would either donate them to charity or return them?

At best, she is used to buying a lot of stuff and then returning it (bad for the merchant).

But dare I suggest that she hinted that she wore clothes and still returned them ?

  31. flex says:

McCain-Palin are now Communists! Next you arrest the reporter if the question offends McCain-Palin.

    “Off with their heads!”

  32. unbelievable says:

liberal traitor Says: She just wanted to make sure that this interview would be held with the same level of poise, decorum, respect, and neutrality as West’s interview of Biden.

Impossible. What Biden has that Sarah lacks is knowledge. No amount of pre-scripting will change that.

  33. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

And, lacking integrity, that news station agreed to those conditions. It is disgusting the things our MSM is doing to try to court Ms. Palin’s attention. They follow her around like a puppy dog even though she won’t talk to them. And they allow her to control the interviews. Why are they doing that? Because they know if she makes a gaffe while they are interviewing, the station will get a lot of publicity because other stations will play the gaffe.

I hope that the internet eventually puts print and TV news out of business.

  34. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

I also suspect that Brian Williams gave Sarah the questions before he interviewed her too. But he’s to chicken to admit it.

    _______

Even if it is, with the way this administration has gutted the Endangered Species Act, journalistic integrity has no hope for survival.

  38. the Lone Voice of Reason says:

The media needs to grow a pair–like Amy Pohler said when she imitated Hillary on SNL–if you can’t grow a pair I’ll lend you mine.

Good Lord, other countries would not put up with this crap, why are we? I have friends from other countries that can’t believe that ANYONE would even consider her as a Veep. We are a joke to the world if she gets elected with Blinky. You think that statement about being tested in the first few months of the new administration was a gaffe? You could count on it if the M/P ticket makes it that far

  39. bigeugene says:

If those reporters had any balls, they’d submit the topics and then just ask whatever questions they wanted when they sat down for the interview.

How stupid are these media people?

  40. DallasNE says:

The honorable thing for the CBS affiliate in Des Moines would have been to decline the interview. While after the fact disclosure of the conditions helps it still doesn’t get them off the hook. What they agreed to was shameful.
