The Virginia Pilot reports today that a phony Virginia Board of Elections flier is being distributed in Hamption Roads, VA telling Democrats that they are now scheduled to vote on November 5. The flier falsely claims that “an emergency session of the General Assembly” adopted a new voting schedule to “ease the load” at polling places on election day:

As the Pilot explains, “no emergency action has been take by the General Assembly, which isn’t in session, and furthermore, doesn’t have the authority to change the date of a federal election.” Along with the rest of the nation, Virginians in all parties vote on November 4.
Who ever posted this should be locked up for at least 10 years…that would put an end to this shit.
October 27th, 2008 at 7:53 pmFind who produced this, who handed it out, and throw their horrible asses in jail for as long as possible.
And I would honestly say that if the Democrats pulled this (though they wouldn’t)

October 27th, 2008 at 7:54 pmWasn’t this same thing done in Wisconsin and perhaps other places in 2004? Meanwhile, McCain and Palin complain about ACORN.
October 27th, 2008 at 7:55 pmCalling AG Mukasey…
October 27th, 2008 at 7:55 pmThe very fabric of our democracy is being being destroyed by Republicans perpetrating one of the greatest frauds in voter history in this country.
We’re being Weyrich’d!
Those responsible for this should be prosecuted as felons. There is no excuse for attempts to deprive citizens of their right to vote.
October 27th, 2008 at 7:56 pmWhy do the hate America?
October 27th, 2008 at 7:57 pmDesperate times apparently foster desperate measures I agree this should be a serious offense Wait and see it will all be swept under the rug and when the repugs responsible are found out It will all be found to be just a joke instead of the election fraud it is
October 27th, 2008 at 7:57 pmYes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus and he grants election wishes!
October 27th, 2008 at 7:57 pmI’m sure the Republicans of Virginia, in all their self-righteousness indignation and banter over alleged voter fraud, will vocally denounce this act and castrate any of their flock if they were involved in crap.
October 27th, 2008 at 7:58 pmi am sure this flier was produced and funded by the RNC. scumbags, one and all who truly DO hate us for freedoms. for example, the free election process

October 27th, 2008 at 8:10 pmThey do something like this every year. And why is this always done in black neighborhoods? I wonder how the Republicans would react if we did something like this in their working class neighborhoods? I can just hear Hannity now.
Oh well, just more work for the Obama supporters. It’s too bad they will have to be wasting their time countering the Republican lies.
October 27th, 2008 at 8:15 pmFrom the State of Virginia:
Dear Democrat Friends,
In order to allow you to vote, we’ve moved election day to November 5th! So what should you do on November 4th, you ask? Well, there is a Nigerian businessman who is stuck with several million dollars, and he needs your help getting this money out of his country. If you can help him, $1 mil will be yours!
God Bless You!

October 27th, 2008 at 8:18 pmapparently, this isn’t the only state this type of happy horseshit this is going on in. i saw a newsbrief how in colorado the state supreme court is holding a hearing on if the purge of the voters in that state was legal. meanwhile, randi rhodes was talking about the republicans hiring private investigators to go to hispanic households and pretty much threatening them with calling immigration.
October 27th, 2008 at 8:24 pmHmmm…. one could say the same thing about predatory lending. So I guess all those stupid poor people are gettin’ what’s comin’ to ‘em now. It’s a good thing our capitalistic president and Treasury department took steps to save all the virtuous victimized bankers.
I feel so much better about the economic meltdown now. Thanks, Sven!

October 27th, 2008 at 8:34 pmNow if we could just get these criminal ingenious Wingnuts to work on the economy, and a fair and workable plan for universal health care, or a cure for AIDS, America would be a great nation once again!

Charles McGee, James Tobin, Allen Raymond. All were tried in connection to the infamous 2002 NH Senate phone jamming scam.
McGee and Raymond served time.
It’s unlikely, but whatever vile operative put out the phony fliers could wind up in prison. Particularly if the Commonwealth of Virginia presses fraud charges.

Steaming fetid poo…you win the imagery contest for this evening.
I did not and do not condone this or any other voter fraud. If this is illegal (and it looks like it is) the people who did it should be prosecuted.
As to the substance of your point, okay, maybe you are right. But I would presume that if you are going to vote you should at least know what day it is and understand the system well enough to know there is NO WAY this flyer could be legit. Perhaps I overestimate the American voter…again, I cannot imagine that anyone will fall for this. The elderly and virgin voters I know are plenty tuned in to the process and would likely laugh their buns off at this.

Slate ran a great article recently
http://www.slate.com/id/2202774/
discussing the history of voter fraud in America. Does 1740 do anything for you? And while there is hanky-panky galore committed on both sides, the political machines of the urban Democratic party (notably in Chicago where you know who hails from) and the vicious racist voter suppression done by the KKK in the South during the 75 years following the Civil War are both in the Dem dossier.
Both parties are populated by unscrupulous power hungry whores, is all I am saying. And if you don’t believe that, well, your voting day has been moved to the 5th.
October 27th, 2008 at 9:26 pmTaking Democracy into your own hands defeats the whole idea, doesn’t it? You can’t believe in Democracy and engage in this sort of behavior. Therefore, it should be outlawed to the level of terrorism. Since the whole idea of things like the patriot act and violating the Bill of Rights with retro-active immunity and invading countries et al is to defend Democracy, attempts to keep a vote from happening ought to rank right up there with conspiracy to commit terrorism. Being found in possession of such fraudulent information should be akin to having bomb materials.

October 27th, 2008 at 9:28 pmIt is a disgraceful act, one to be condemned by both sides as immoral and illegal. Regardless of the intellectual capacity of the people who would fall prey to this type of tactic, they have rights here in American and should not be criminally defrauded from them by any means. There is absolutely no defense, even jokingly, for this type of crime. The punishment should be a felony and the price high in years and made very public. I also feel that if the perpetrator is found to be working on behalf of any campaign organization, that organization should be heavily fined, whether they tacitly approved or not.

I use a “special place in hell” as a metaphor. And I don’t “hate” you, I simply have no respect for you and people like you. That makes me very sad because I have always prided myself on being able to tolerate just about anything. But after what you and your ilk have done to my beloved country, my disrespect now knows no bounds. Your day of reckoning is just around the corner, and you deserve everything that happens to you from that day forth. On occasion you do try to convince us that you are not a right wing a$$hole, but truth always wins and sooner or later you expose yourself.

The Royal “We” – a trifecta, Ladies and Gentlemen!
You say you don’t hate but your words belie you, speaking of the truth always winning. You ooze hate, but in your vision of yourself you are just too darn decent and tolerant to hate, so therefore it has to be my fault because of what “I” have done to “your” country.
It is okay Bilbo; BE the hate. You will live longer if you don’t keep it bottled up. Take a page from RHF’s playbook. I am here for you.

October 28th, 2008 at 8:15 amThis type of fraud has been tried before. Check out http://www.snopes.com/politics/humor/voting.asp
While this is the sort of thing that theoretically could be done by pranksters of either party, the only examples that hit the Snopes radar are ones obviously designed to disenfranchise uninformed Democrats. (I don’t know why some misguided Democrats haven’t tried the same thing — maybe they have, but it just didn’t make a splash anywhere.)
This latest example is the first time we’ve seen a flyer with “official” looking logos and designed to look like an authentic directive. This is obviously criminal fraud, and the perpetrators are subject to prosecution and imprisonment if convicted (and they MUST be caught — this kind of stuff must not be tolerated).
I wouldn’t automatically assume that McCain himself ordered this activity. In the first place, we’ve all seen that McCain has little or no control over his campaign, but even I think that McCain would be more honorable than that (this IS awfully low).
We also need to remember that there are many Republicans who disagree with us on issues and ideology, but fervently believe as we do that the game must be played within the rules. We must not make the mistake of thinking that there can’t be any Republicans who are just as appalled at this as we are.
I sincerely hope there is enough publicity surrounding this in the affected area that everybody who has received one of these flyers knows they are fake.
October 28th, 2008 at 9:06 amHummm… suppressing the vote, attempting to take away first amendment rights of other Americans. Why do these Americans hate other Americans? They yap about “let freedom ring” for Iraqis but don’t want freedom for Americans.
October 28th, 2008 at 9:26 amThis is hilarious on some level. I’ve spent almost the entire election running around the internet trying to get people to go out and vote because I think it’s important. And then you get these yahoos who come along and try to convince people to vote without being registered? That is stunning in its genius, and yet terribly, terribly sad at the same time.
