After Politico’s revealed recently that $150,000 was spent on Gov. Sarah Palin’s wardrobe, the McCain campaign and the RNC have been engaged in a blame game, trying to assign responsibility to each other for the decision. A quick recap:
“It was obviously the RNC’s call.” – McCain aide Nancy Pfotenhauer, 10/22
“They are not my property. Just like the lighting and the staging and everything else the RNC purchased.” – Palin, 10/26
“All the people I talk to say it’s Nicolle Wallace.” – Fox’s Fred Barnes, 10/26
“This was a coordinated expense that the campaign asked us to pay for.” – RNC Chairman Mike Duncan, 10/27
When asked on Meet the Press this weekend if the money spent on clothes was “a colossal mistake on the part of the RNC,” McCain did not deny that the RNC made the purchases.
But, but, but what about that consignment store back in Alaska.

October 28th, 2008 at 2:01 pmHer supporters bought her clothes, her hair do , her hateful lying rhetoric and evangelical lunacy ,wholesale !But at what cost and who will be paying for it ?
October 28th, 2008 at 2:01 pmtune in Nov. 5th to find out.
i liked how she said "i'm back to wearing my own clothes..."
October 28th, 2008 at 2:04 pm["now that we got caught..."]
I just hope that circular wingnut firing squad has plenty of ammo.
October 28th, 2008 at 2:05 pmGee Sarah, as a good christian, would'nt the 150 000 dollars have been better spent helping the needy than in stoking your vanity ?
October 28th, 2008 at 2:05 pmEver read the gospels ?
Is this really the same party that argued that the democrats are weak on terrorism? Now, a week before the national election, the arguement is about who authorized the clothing purchase?
Do you feel safer?
October 28th, 2008 at 2:05 pmWell, I think we can already see just how open and honest a McCain/Palin administration would be.
Much like the Bush/Cheney administration, me thinks. (And McCain said he's not George Bush! Hah!)
"If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything."

Next the RNC will say they did it to help stimulate the economy.
October 28th, 2008 at 2:07 pm"Who bought Palin’s clothes? McCain campaign and RNC play the blame game."
Sounds like a need for a Special Prosecutor to investigate the Palin clothes probe. ;-)
Seriously, the GOP donors are really pissed because Palin's wardrobe are being paid for on the donors' dime. No one wants to take responsibility on this but they wish to throw one another under the bus. Media should take note of the trainwreck campaign by Gramps McCain yet no chaos from the Obama camp nor use of campaign funds for wardrobes for Obama and Biden.
October 28th, 2008 at 2:08 pmAm I the only person who's not getting really worked up about Sarah Palin's clothes? At least not the money part of it -- since I contributed no money to the campaign or to the RNC, it's not my money. And the way I look at it, if the money hadn't been spent on clothes, it just would have gone to attack ads.
From an entertainment perspective it's been somewhat amusing, though. Yes, I know that in our society women are scrutinized far more for their appearance than men are (even so, did the DNC buy clothes for Ferraro in 1984?). But the clothing is only part of what this campaign has done to "invent" Sarah Palin and pass her off as a manufactured person.
We all know on some level that a good portion of what we see in politics is illusion. But this year the GOP has set new records in being so open about it.
October 28th, 2008 at 2:09 pm.
So, the GOP buys more than her lipsticked pitbullsh!t...
... That they wrap it in a $450.00 per day wardrobe?
.
October 28th, 2008 at 2:10 pmLook!
October 28th, 2008 at 2:10 pmOver there!
A terrorist!
i think the story is more fantastical because of the STORES where those clothes were purchased... a wardrobe itself was not out of line... and 150k would've bought a LOT of clothes at the macy's or even jcrew - as michelle wore last night on leno...
and even those places are out of touch for most, unless "on sale"... especially the crowd who flock to the palin rallies, from what i've seen...
October 28th, 2008 at 2:11 pmTo steal a line from Stephanie Miller...
"Thanks for playing Republicans eating their own."
I don't think the Straight Talk Express is nearly a big enough bus for all these people to throw each other under.
October 28th, 2008 at 2:11 pmMcCain explained on Face the Nation that she needed the clothes because of her modest Alaskan wardrobe. He got a pass on that BS excuse and wasn't challenged, letting the viewers think that the Governor of Alaska evidently wears moosehide clothes to work along with second hand stuff she picks up at yard sales.
That being the case, it would beg the question as to why her and Todd have not been able to buy her decent clothes on their measly $166,000.00 a year income.
October 28th, 2008 at 2:13 pmLooks like we'll have to let the IRS sort this one out.

Oh, the clothes will go to charity, where the poor will have the chance to pretend to be rich. "See, homeless people don't need any government aid, that bum over there is wearing a dress from Saks Fifth!"
October 28th, 2008 at 2:15 pmI don't care if she donates the clothes. No amount of drycleaning can get the stench of Republican desperation out of those outfits. Prospective future owners of the Palin wardrobe should be concerned that wearing the clothes could give you teh stoopid.
October 28th, 2008 at 2:20 pmSo if Sarah is back to wearing her own clothes.....we should be seeing her in camo or wrapped up in the stars and stripes.
October 28th, 2008 at 2:21 pmSarah's the winner in this War of blame. Republicans who gave their money for the McCain/Palin campaign now know both McCain/RNC brought Sarah and her family clothes and other gifts that she will take home when she loses. Sarah has been spending taxpayers money since she became Mayor and Govenor and sees this as normal. Even as we speak Sarah is still buying clothers in Neveda and other States she visits. Sarah looks at this as a free vacation and shopping spree for the Palin Family.
October 28th, 2008 at 2:21 pmThe money that the k street lobby firms dole out is not your money either but it should still be illegal.
Same with palens wardrobe......I think laws were broken. That doesn't even seem to be the issue.

The point is that if a cash strapped campaign cannot control its own spending, how can we allow a McSame/Palin Administration to handle the US Treasury for the next 4 years. They would just be the same old kind of tired Republican that would add uncontrolled spending and trillions more to our National Debt.
October 28th, 2008 at 2:25 pmThe question is who knew best how to get around the issue of McCain-Feingold? Or were they in violation?
October 28th, 2008 at 2:25 pmRNC buys Palin's clothes while the NRCC paid for Chris Ward's home reonvations. Republican donors must be horrified by the lack of care shown their political donations.
October 28th, 2008 at 2:27 pmAnd republicans claimed a $400 haircut was excessive and irresponsible!! ROTFL!! Yet they have no problem with 150k IN CLOTHES!!! Once again, GOP Hypocrisy at it's finest from the CULTURE OF CORRUPTION!!!
October 28th, 2008 at 2:29 pmLook, I don't care what they spend their $150K on, as long as it's legal. The real point here is that their "authentic" image is in fact completely manufactured. They've been crafting this illusion of being about helping "regular folk" and then turning on them once it's time to actually govern. They've been doing the same thing with evangelical Christians too.
October 28th, 2008 at 2:36 pmspending compaign money on clothes is a violation of the law...will BibleBeatingBarbie lay her hand on the bible and sear to her vengeful witchhunting god that she will give the clothes back when the campaign is (mercifully) over..
does anyone think that this white trash corporate welfare mom isnt milking the mccain campaign for everythign and anything she can possibly get her hands on?

Of course she is CJ. And I don't believe for one second that any of the clothing purchases will be donated to charity. I mean, seriously, how do you tell a cute little seven year old girl that she has to give away her brand new shiny clothes? That's a pretty shitty thing to have to do.
October 28th, 2008 at 2:46 pmGessuz , just call it an expensive RENTAL .
October 28th, 2008 at 2:50 pmIf train A starts at point B and travels west at 120 mph carrying Palin's new Wardrobe, and train C starts at point D and travels east at 69 mph carrying all the pissed off RNC donors, given that points A and C are 1200 miles apart, when will the two trains collide and put us out of their misery?

I'm sorry missmolly, but you may be wrong on this one. If the McCain campaign paid for the clothes (which is what I suspect is true), then some of your money did go into purchasing the clothing if you checked the box on your tax form to donate to campaign financing.
I makes me mad as hell that McCain is using all that public money to run such a nasty and destructive campaign. It almost makes me want to never check that box again.
October 28th, 2008 at 3:07 pmAt least not the money part of it — since I contributed no money to the campaign or to the RNC, it’s not my money.
McCain took public campaign funds. Taxpayers definitely bought Sarah's duds. And I'm not buying the "donation" story, either. A VP needs a wardrobe, doesn't she? The donation concept came up after she got caught.
October 28th, 2008 at 3:08 pmre #5 - Who says she's a good christian? Not by my standards.

And both are a violation of campaign finance law. But, nothing will happen because of it. Bush won't fill the empty seats on the commission that oversee's campaign finance spending, so there's no one there to find them guilty of violating the law.
October 28th, 2008 at 3:10 pmYou can just smell the fear each time Unstable and Unable are asked a question.

I could care less if she wore blue overalls.
What strikes me is the purchase of the clothes by either the campaign or the RNC directly violates the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 or McCain-Feingold campaign reform act which McCain cosponsored and supposedly helped write.

Everybody knows that.
October 28th, 2008 at 3:31 pmThe problem with the Neiman-Marcus wardrobe and Gucci bag for a 7 year old is this bunch of liars pretend to be one of the average taxpayers. So repubs are panicked because Obama might raise their taxes, well at least Obama is planning to put the money into social programs not on Michelle's back.
Who do you think will be paying for palin and family's wardrobe?
October 28th, 2008 at 3:32 pmThe donors must love what their hard earned money was used for.

October 28th, 2008 at 5:16 pmSo, let me get this straight.
Palin's wardrobe is a major concern with you folks?
Obama's ties to Rashid Khalidi and William Ayers are not a major concern with you folks?
Obama and Biden want social justice and to enforce this justice they propose raising taxes on working people and business. However, despite the millions that both have raked in, both of their personal charitable contributions are under 1 percent combined. Bidens was a paltry 3000+
Those two love to help the poor but only when it is with other people's money.
Who are the other people? You.
October 28th, 2008 at 5:31 pmFred Barns said that Nicolle Wallace made the purchase and put it on her credit card. ?Who has a $150,000 credit limit?
He said Sarah never went into the stores. So will no fittings, everything fit well. Who are these prople!

October 28th, 2008 at 5:46 pmI wonder what the rental value of 150,000 $ worth of clothes she claims shes just "borrorowing" is? And I wonder if shes going to list that rental value on her income tax next year? Letting someone rent you something something for free is considered income equal to the rental value of the item in question....bloggers and accountants of TP, start digging...
October 28th, 2008 at 5:48 pmNice rack!..
October 28th, 2008 at 5:50 pmSorry. I sort of couldn't help myself. Still I don't see why some have claimed her a "hottie"
>Palin’s wardrobe is a major concern with you folks?
she claims shes white trash just like the votes of the peple shes desparately seeking. most white trash dont spend ever see 150,000 $ thier entire life, let alone spend it on clothes...kinda torpedoes her "sarah sixpack" argument dont you think?
>Obama’s ties to Rashid Khalidi and William Ayers are not a >major concern with you folks?
Does Palins husbands membership in a group that despises america and advocates violent succession bother you? Does it bother you that Palin recorded a political message for that same group?
Does Palin attnending a church whose pastor hunts "witches" and has them murdered in africa, and who and tells his flock that "suicide bombings are the jews are being punished by god for trying to make peace" bother you?
Does Donald Rumsfeld ties to Saddam Hussien bother you?
Does McCain's support for a man who gave domestic terrorists advice on how to kill federal agennts bother you?
