Palin Calls For Shining ‘A Light’ On Alaskan Oil Company That Helped Propel Her Political Career

palinstevens.jpgYesterday, after Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) was found guilty by a federal jury for failing to report hundreds of thousands of dollars in gifts and services he had received from friends, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin issued a statement calling it “a sad day for Alaska.” In the statement, Palin also declared that the “verdict shines a light though on the corrupting influence of the big oil service company” whose CEO provided many of Stevens’ unreported gifts:

The verdict shines a light though on the corrupting influence of the big oil service company up there in Alaska that was allowed to control too much of our state. And that control was part of the culture of corruption that I was elected to fight. And that fight must always move forward regardless of party affiliation or seniority or even past service.

Palin’s statement neglects to mention that she also has ties to “the big oil service company,” Veco. When she ran for lieutenant governor in 2002, “she gathered $5,000 — or about 10 percent of her campaign fund — from Veco officials or their wives,” including $500 from CEO Bill Allen.

In 2006, when she ran for governor, Palin ran as a critic of Veco and said that she “didn’t want Veco money.” But her running mate, Sean Parnell, received two $500 checks from Veco officers during the campaign, including one from Allen. Last month, Palin donated to charity “more than $1,000 in campaign contributions from two Alaska politicians implicated” in the federal corruption probe surrounding Veco.

Palin had accepted the donations from the state legislators, John Cowdery and Bruce Weyhrauch, after their offices were searched by the FBI in 2006. Palin made the charitable donations only after the AP had reported that she accepted the money in 2006.

If she really is the future of the Republican Party, they will soon become extinct.

So lemme get this straight. Stevens was a moral saint who was corrupted by the evil Veco monster. And Palin is the shining knight who has vowed to slay the corrupting monster. Which she is doing by accepting campaign contributions from them, renouncing them only when she’s caught doing so.

    WTF?

  5. paleolib says:

Wait for it. By nightfall the Palin meme will be “it takes a hockey mom to reform a corrupt oil service firm”. The only down side of this publicity for Alaskan corruption is that it probably prevents Palin from surviving long enough to drag the Republicans the rest of the way into the tar pit.

Oh, I get it. See, she’s trying to bleed VECO to death by siphoning off all their money for campaign contributions.

Interesting strategy – I wonder how that’s gonna work out for her.

Alaska will be very brightly lit from now on … no more scurrilousness to while away the long winter nights.

We already have one member of the Executive Branch with speech problems. We don’t need another, even at the V.P. level.

Bring it on! Shine more light on the corruption of Alaskan lawmakers.

Me and my buddies had a saying in college: The “higher” the hair-do, the “lower” the IQ.

And that control was part of the culture of corruption that I was elected to fight. And that fight must always move forward regardless of party affiliation or seniority or even if VECO built a summer home for me down by the lake.

Veco has Sarah in their back pocket and helped her get where she is. She takes pride in talking about her relationship with Veco and let’s people know it. She started her career in Politics with Veco and with the help of convicted felon Senator Ted Stevens who trained her in how to steal and lie she is now Govenor running for VP.

Spenard Bldrs mentioned in the Steven’s trial also supplied the materials for the building in 2002 palin house. Amazing that a 3500 square foot home was built just by palin’s husband and friends. Strangely, building permits were blocked by the Mayor at the time, palin, so no checks of who did what are available. Also, the house was completed the same time the sports complex was being built down the road. Sports complex had many of the same people who provided supplies for the house. Check it out at Daily Kos.

  16. texaslady says:

Much has been made of Obama’s relationship with Rezco, how is it any different than palin’s relationship with a convicted, Allen, briber. ? I don’t believe any politician is clean just have to pick one that is less dirty than the others.

“MMMmmmm-this hand that feeds me tastes SoOOOooo GOoooOod!!”

…like she’s ever going to turn down one of those juicy checks from Alaska’s petro-welfare program.

Big-League Republicans keep their opportunism a little better camouflaged than that Barbie, and you’re about to learn why.

  18. konchster says:

Seems like Veco likes constructing homes for politicians Check out Palin’s family home and the aid received from Veco

  19. ElBruce says:

We know what happens when she invites people to investigate her and then they do. She turns around and claims the investigation was “politicized.”

#19 – Strange that some of us can find quirky things about the coincidence of palin’s house and the new sports dome but msn only keeps looking at Obama’s connection with his neighbor. Just amazing that a man and a couple of buddies can construct such a huge house and in such a short time. The “first dude” and his friends should be in construction. Wonder if the Anchorage newspaper has done any checking.

  22. qatwoman says:

Talk about biting the hand that feeds you. Palin……you are such a hypocrite!

  23. qatwoman says:

Pictured Palin being all buddy/buddy with a convicted felon! Talk about the pot callin the kettle black! :snicker: Man, payback is a ……well, ya know!
