Last Friday, WFTV’s Barbara West spent the entirety of her five minute interview with Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) spouting right-wing smears. In response to significant criticism of her conduct, West appeared on the O’Reilly Factor last night where Bill O’Reilly gave West the “Factor Stamp of Approval,” saying “good for you.” “You did your job, I didn’t have any problem with it,” O’Reilly said.
West noted that she had interviewed McCain for the second time yesterday and claimed that she was “just as probing” with him as she was with Biden. When O’Reilly asked her what the “toughest question” was that she posed to McCain, West responded:
I think the toughest question I asked him was asking him about his own campaign and his management of his own campaign.
Watch it:
West’s “toughest question” wasn’t tough at all (watch her recent interview with McCain here). West simply asked McCain to compare the management of his campaign to that of Obama’s:
How can you convince the American public that you’re ready to lead when the thing you’re in charge of, your campaign, appears to be lacking the same fine tuned coordination as Sen. Obama’s?
McCain responded by saying, “I don’t know what, frankly, you’re talking about.” West’s other “probing” questions for McCain focused on pet causes of the far right:
– “Barney Frank has proposed a 25 percent reduction in defense spending. What do you think about that?”
– “Let’s get back to that radio interview that Sen. Obama did several years ago in Chicago when he debated not whether or not it was right to spread the wealth, but what was the best way to achieve that — legislatively or through the judicial system. What does this tell you about how long he’s been thinking about this?”
In keeping with her “probing” style, West did not ask McCain a single follow-up question, challenge any of his responses, or liken his policies to any incendiary political philosophies.
McCain responded by saying, “I don’t know what, frankly, you’re talking about.”
We know, John, we know…

The clock is ticking. She could likely get in two or three more Faux News interviews before fading back to obscurity. You just not wacko enough for the prime time sweetheart!
October 28th, 2008 at 1:04 pmi didn’t see it, but are you sure she didn’t ask McCain if he is a Fascist?
October 28th, 2008 at 1:06 pmAnother right-wing shill suckling at the teat of the neocon breast. Of course we all know what that looks like. Ewwww!
October 28th, 2008 at 1:09 pmPlease… continue to muck around knee-deep in trivial, artificially-inflated “controversies” like this one, Dild O’ and Company. I’m SURE you’re convincing more than enough people to abandon Obama and vote GOOP at this late date w/ such searing, probing, insightful commentary like this.
Especially the “probing” part, huh, Dild? Deep, forceful, over and over and over again, until you cry out in release…
October 28th, 2008 at 1:12 pmWell, we know who has the inside track on getting the ‘exclusive’ interview with Sarah Palin, don’t we?
October 28th, 2008 at 1:13 pmWhat’s with Babs West and all this “probing” business?
October 28th, 2008 at 1:15 pmBillO is absolutely correct: “You did your job, I didn’t have any problem with it,” O’Reilly said.
Because her “job” was to inject as many Right Wing slurs as possible. Just like his job.
October 28th, 2008 at 1:15 pmHer words are now certified to be 100% bullshit.
October 28th, 2008 at 1:19 pmIf stupid were a crime she’d be number one on the Most Wanted list.
October 28th, 2008 at 1:19 pmSo she passed her first interview to be a FauxScmooze bimbo.
So what.
October 28th, 2008 at 1:20 pmWhy didn’t she ask him when he plans to die from recurrance of cancer?
October 28th, 2008 at 1:20 pm“Factor Stamp of Approval”?
====>> lifetime subscription to the Paris Business Review and complimentary falafel.
October 28th, 2008 at 1:21 pmBildo was on Letterman last night and he’s such a wimp he was hyperventilating. At one point Dave asked him if he was alright because he sounded so scared.
I watched McCain’s interview with her on the link and she seemed like a different woman. The first thing McCain said was “don’t be mean to me” mocking the response after Biden’s interview. It doesn’t matter who interviews McCain though because he is such a habitual liar that he’ll say anything. Of course he’s so senile he can’t remember he said something else last week.
October 28th, 2008 at 1:21 pmThis is why something must be done about the media:It really needs to be broken up not allowing anyone person to own 30 to 40 stations. It really has damaged our democracy.
October 28th, 2008 at 1:22 pmAre you still a Communist or have you not stopped beating your wife?
October 28th, 2008 at 1:22 pmMcCain’s plan has a top rate of 33%. Obama’s has a top rate of 36%. I would like to know at what point these plans morph from “America First!” (33%) to “socialism” (36%). Is it 33.5% or is it 35.5%? Where is this bright line that separates “America first” from “socialism?”
October 28th, 2008 at 1:23 pmO’Reilly guest: “Good question, Bill. I’ll answer it as soon as you tell me the difference between a falafel and a loofa.
O’Reilly: “Cut his mike! Cut his mike!”
October 28th, 2008 at 1:24 pmIs McCain the new Mussolini? The media is certainly marching in lockstep for these fascists.
October 28th, 2008 at 1:29 pmH-A-C-K
October 28th, 2008 at 1:29 pmStraight from the horse’s ass mouth of Bill “I’m an Independent” O’Falafel.
Just saying . . .
October 28th, 2008 at 1:30 pmOh gawd, I though all the PUMAs went away. Tell you what, call up this Lynn Samuels, and simply ask her to state the policy differences between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama and listen to her trip over her own tongue.
October 28th, 2008 at 1:35 pmBillous o really and the wicked witch of the west are propagandists second only to Goebels …… NOT !
October 28th, 2008 at 1:35 pm‘Free Press’ used to be a source of pride. It’s amazing how low the bar has gotten and how partisan the ‘reporting’ has become. This is a good example of why we’re #36, (tied with who?) and not at least in the top five.
October 28th, 2008 at 1:35 pmAll her so-called “probing questions” for McCain had to do with Obama and not McCain. Kind of like McCain’s entire campaign being about Obama and not about the candidate himself. Very sad.
Also, I notice that O’Reilly didn’t mention the fact that Biden wiped the floor with this a$$hat. I wonder when her offer from Faux Noise will come through.
October 28th, 2008 at 1:41 pmShe has the kind of obtuseness that could propel her into
October 28th, 2008 at 1:42 pmthe Fox News stratosphere.
In my mind, it’s an argument for nationalizing the media. Despite what its apologists say, capitalism has utterly failed in the task of giving us reliable news. If we had something like the BBC, maybe our democracy would be in better shape right now.

October 28th, 2008 at 1:42 pmI actually joined the PUMA forum before the convention, just to see what was with these people. They are nuts. When I told them that Hillary was asking them to support Obama, theygot all pissed off and told me, “We don’t have to do what Hillary says!”
October 28th, 2008 at 1:44 pmThis election sure has brought out the shooting stars.
October 28th, 2008 at 1:52 pmYou’re kidding, right? Is this a joke or something?
Thank you, Senator Biden. That’s all you needed to say.
October 28th, 2008 at 1:52 pmGo West young man; and then take a Right…
Well, that would explain why they don’t give a rat’s ass about anything Hillary Clinton actually says.
October 28th, 2008 at 1:53 pmI vow to protect the constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic . HELLO ?
October 28th, 2008 at 1:54 pmTime to hold the American Media and their corporate overlords responsible ….say perhaps……for the deaths of a million and a half Iraqi’s in their lies running up to this war!
Lying to acomplish immoral ends is not free speech ! Hold these people responsible for their parts in the most treasonous acts in our history as a nation. Prosecute purposeful dishonesty after redistributing the ridiculous wealth of the top 1 percent of our aristocracy , who have profitted beyond their wildest dreams and had every opportunity to put the breaks on facsism and the destruction of our constitution during the last several years!!!
If the law isn’t enough to protect our democracy from such desparities of wealth than the obvious alternative is to put an end to the disparity itself .
Let the free market compete to provide a better automobile but leave democracy to it’s living citizenry , regulate greed.
GOT JUSTICE ?
I think this dumb beeotch needs her orifices probed. With a flaming cactus.
October 28th, 2008 at 1:55 pmOf course Bill O’Lieley didn’t mention that Barbara West’s husband is a Republican strategist, who contributed several thousand bucks to Republican candidates. And did Bill’O point out that West herself is also a registered Republican?
And why is the Main Steam Media, whatever that is, not pointing that out?
October 28th, 2008 at 2:00 pmPerry logan Says:

No thanks. The real problem has been the result of government meddling in what had been a system loaded with options and opinions. At one time there were thousands of radio stations, newspapers and television stations, owned by thousands of people — because no one was allowed to assemble an aggregate of media outlets, particularly in one region. If you owned a newspaper in City A, you could not also own a radio station. Thanks to the steady erosion of this control, we ended up with a tiny number of media corporations (often part of much larger corporations) that control virtually all the standard outlets. How many cities still have more than one daily newspaper — especially under separate owners and (ha! fat chance) locally-owned?
October 28th, 2008 at 2:06 pmI wonder where O’Reilly is going to be working after the election? Burger King?
October 28th, 2008 at 2:07 pmThis is simply further evidence of how far removed from reality the Repignofascist Party and its followers are in this country. When can we expect a job off for this clown to join the losing line up at Fixed Noise?
October 28th, 2008 at 2:07 pmJoe six
And why is the Main Steam Media, whatever that is, not pointing that out?
The propaganda machine is owned by the people who profit the most from the republicans and theie attempts to destroy American democracy ?
October 28th, 2008 at 2:09 pmDr. Matt, switch to XM radio and you can listen to Air America. Tom Hartman is incredible.
October 28th, 2008 at 2:13 pm“If we had something like the BBC, maybe our democracy would be in better shape right now.”
This is a good point which is counter-intuitive to most Americans. If we had a network like BBC, it would be accountable to the people as a government agency. The corporations who run our mainstream media are not in any way accountable. They’ve not even accountable to the marketplace. If they were they wouldn’t cancel top-rated shows like Donohue just because he was against the Iraq invasion. In fact, in the runup to the war, BBC was much more reliable than any of our corporate-owned networks in spite of the fact that Britain was an ally in the war.
October 28th, 2008 at 2:16 pmThere is absolutely no reason to listen to a PUMA a-hole like Lynn Samuels. She’s just an old racist.
October 28th, 2008 at 2:17 pm49erDem Says:
“…in the runup to the war, BBC was much more reliable than any of our corporate-owned networks in spite of the fact that Britain was an ally in the war.”
It still is. There’s a lot of news in the BBC that somehow never manage to reach the USian networks.
October 28th, 2008 at 2:23 pmYes Bill I do think we would be a bad country if we invaded Iraq inorder to control world oil supplies , it;s called growing Bill and learning through our mistakes !
October 28th, 2008 at 2:30 pmYou should try it .
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmsVtxuXhmw
Barbara West should be careful. Billo doesn’t give high praise to any woman without some deviant means behind it. She might want to register to carry a concealed firearm or a blowtorch.
October 28th, 2008 at 3:15 pmIsn’t it just a bit ironic that McCain himself suggested we reduce defense spending during the last debate? It was one of the few things he has said this year that made any sense!
October 28th, 2008 at 3:21 pmAmen, finally someone has the guts to ask tough questions. For the last year, the liberal media has given Obama a free pass.
Seems that it is more important that Palin is wearing a 150k wardrobe than Obama’s ties to terrorists.
Seems that it is more important that Palin’s daughter is pregnant, than Obama’s communistic beliefs.
Just saying.
October 28th, 2008 at 5:36 pmYou are a liar a fool and a hypocrite. If a biased lefty questioner asked McCain if he had been broken by the North Vietnamese and was a Manchurian candidate and if he had REALLY had sex with his captors the screaming by you ignorant wingnuts would knock the Earth off its orbit
October 28th, 2008 at 5:56 pmhttp://www.wftv.com/video/17810719/index.html
She asks a few tough questions. Also she points out that Joe The Plumber would be better off under Obama’s tax plan.
p.s. only in America could JTP be the media’s focus during a campaign
October 28th, 2008 at 6:42 pmShe also says that McCain’s plan has tax cuts for the wealthy (at 3:40) and then asks if the wealthy really need tax cuts.
October 28th, 2008 at 6:47 pmTim43 Says: ..has become a hit and run troll. He damned sure won’t stick around and try to defend his ignorant remarks.
Pure coward is what I call it.
October 28th, 2008 at 7:31 pmHey Babs, Obama took Florida: How do ya like them oranges?
