Ashwin Madia, a former Marine and Iraq war veteran, is running as a Democrat against Republican Erik Paulson to represent Minnesota’s third congressional district. The National Republican Congressional Committee has funded attack ads against Madia, who is Indian-American, that appear to have darkened his skin from images used in Madia’s own ads:

Watch a report on the ads from the Twin Cities’ KARE-11 here.
That was an accident in processing we are not racists.
October 30th, 2008 at 12:34 pmsigned….the republicans.
An accident in processing that seems to happen a lot…
Seriously, this guy is a fu(king VETERAN. The GOP supports the troops, my A$$. This guy fought in George’s Quagmire. Is there anyone the GOP won’t smear? Oh wait, I forgot, this guy isn’t white so he’s fair game.
Where’s Bam_Bam? Shouldn’t he be in here defending Paulson or something?
October 30th, 2008 at 12:36 pmSee Minnesota, he’s really a black man. And remember you’re supposed to be afraid of black men. This is why you should vote for Erik Paulson. He can enrich your lives with fear like no other!
Republicans just suck. This tactic is not only offensive but it is indicative of what the republicans have to do to win. They offer nothing but fear.
October 30th, 2008 at 12:37 pmDear President Obama,
As your first official act, please declare martial law and arrest all Republicans.

October 30th, 2008 at 12:37 pmSure and the Easter Bunny is coming to town. Look this was no accident. Republicans should remember we have soldiers who’s skin color is dark but they protect their fellow soldier no matter what color. Ever what a Super Bowl and see color isn’t an issue it’s a team playing together to Win. People aren’t born racist their taught racism and this is an example.
October 30th, 2008 at 12:39 pmYears of trading the markets has taught me one thing. People are motivated by two things, hope and fear. Fear is always a more powerful motivation, as markets always fall at three times the rate that they rise. (more like ten times the rate lately). Conservatives figured this out a long time ago. Democrats campaign on hope. Republicans campaign on fear. That’s the difference, and that is why Republicans still have a place in American politics, despite their disastrous policies.
October 30th, 2008 at 12:40 pmNo, no, and NO.
You have been flagged for fascism and for talking like a Neocon.
Don’t do it again.
October 30th, 2008 at 12:41 pmThere is no bottom to the Republican slime pit. None. At. All.
October 30th, 2008 at 12:42 pmMost Republicans aren’t racists but most racists are Republicans.
October 30th, 2008 at 12:44 pmOh no they di’int, no way that they wanted him to look like a terrist.

October 30th, 2008 at 12:44 pmIt is sad that these Republicans are trying to, once again, use race as THE issue rather than dealing with the issues. To me, I could care less what a person’s skin color, religion, sex, height, weight, shoe size, ect is. I want to know where they stand on the issues. Politics is shameful and the Republicans are wallowing in the cesspool now. I can only hope “REAL AMERICANS” have moved beyond the “scary black man” push by the Republicans.
October 30th, 2008 at 12:45 pmAfter watching the video on Dennis praeger and the national convention in the twin cities I’m beginning to think Texas has company.
October 30th, 2008 at 12:49 pmThe win at all costs philosophy so apparent by now from the republicans is truly a terrifying event . Yesterdays democracy now had a discussion on voter fraud , malfunctioning e voting machines , intimidation tactics towards university student voters and a serious lack of actual ballots in the swing states ! This coupled with the fact that the republicans will contest any vote possible .
Scary times in the land of sheep .
I am singling you out again because this needs to be said. I’m apologize in advance for making an example out of you, but you stuck your neck on the chopping block so DEAL WITH IT.
I have noticed a number of posters here in the past few months doing what Perry Logan just did. Calling for the arrest of all Republicans, calling for Obama to declare martial law, calling for all Republicans to be rounded up etc etc.
THIS IS WRONG.
THIS IS WHAT NEOCONS DO, SAY, AND THINK.
THIS IS THE MINDSET OF MICHELLE BACHMANN.
THIS IS THE MINDSET OF SARAH PALIN.
THIS IS THE MINDSET OF NANCY PFOTENHAUER.
THIS IS THE MINDSET OF RUSH LIMBAUGH.
THIS IS THE MINDSET OF ANN COULTER.
I am imploring my fellow progressives, liberals, socialists (snark), lefties, democrats, independents, greens et al to think before they say things like this. Are the people listed above who you want to sound like? I didn’t think so.
DO NOT LET THESE SICK, PSYCHOTIC, FASCIST CRAZIES INFECT YOUR BRAIN WITH THEIR EVIL.
If we bring them down, we will do it the RIGHT way. We will counter their lies with truth, their crimes with justice, their hate with love, and their fascism with freedom.
We will not engage in witch hunts.
We will not engage in McCarthyite practices of demonizing those who disagree with us to the point where simple party affiliation is tantamount to GUILT.
Not all Republicans are evil. Think Chuck Hagel. His social policies are abhorrent but he is no neocon criminal.
My father is a Republican. His political beliefs are abhorrent to me but he is inherently a GOOD man, a GOOD husband, a GREAT father.
Do not let these sick people take you with them over the abyss of violence, fascism, and hate.
Don’t let them do it.

October 30th, 2008 at 12:53 pmliberal traitor Says:
We’re not liberal traitor, but you have to understand the frustration of all progressives in the absence of any justice for the last 8 years…..actually longer.
It’s just a little of “in your face with your own methods rhetoric”. Republicans should die by the sword they live by.
October 30th, 2008 at 1:00 pmAh yes, the ole it is better to be feared than loved when one of the two are lacking.
I really do not like the repug mindset.
October 30th, 2008 at 1:01 pmThe best thing to do about republikkkans is ignore them, avoid giving them any power, and deride them at every opportunity.
Like now:
“McCain/Palin” as viable candidates…. BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Republicans are desperate bottom feeders who’ve had their shame gene removed.
October 30th, 2008 at 1:02 pmThis tactic has been used by Republican operatives all over, even on a white Democrat.
The Republicans are just plain disgusting.
October 30th, 2008 at 1:04 pmGOP operatives are despicable; they might have to be euthanized if the cannot be perfected.
October 30th, 2008 at 1:07 pmThis act shows me one of two things; either they have become so desparate they will stoop this low, knowing they will eventually have to own up. Or, this kind of thing works in the white demographic area of Minnesota and they are playing to win.
Either way, it say as much about the target of the ads (the Distirct’s people) as it does about the scumbags runing them.
October 30th, 2008 at 1:08 pmGross Old Pharts (GOP). The Republicans in the 21st century never miss a chance to slime, smear and lie, do they? Flush four four-flushers down the chute on November Fourth: flush once for Cheney. Flush again for McCain. Flush again for Bush. Flush again for Palin. Now you will have a truly “Tidy Bowl.”
October 30th, 2008 at 1:09 pmThe darker skinned, the scarier? Maybe there is a direct correlation, but are there really shades of racism? I imagine the people this works on are already maxed out on bigotry.
October 30th, 2008 at 1:10 pmRacist republicans have screwed up royally and they are white. Starting off with the idiot and these 8 years of shame this country and the world has gone through. Now colored people get an opportunity to rule and the white supremacists are going bonkers! They’ll do whatever trick it takes to knock them down. Make them look like terrorists, make their skin darker, whatever it takes to knock them off the race.
October 30th, 2008 at 1:13 pmAny appearance of a close race will be decided by diebold .The lack a close race may well be decided by martial law , assassination or the sea smurfs . If you are willing to disenfranchise legitimate voters , tell total lies or stir up hate and racism to achieve your ends , where do you draw the line ?
October 30th, 2008 at 1:15 pmThe opponent in this contest has no scruples andf has alot to fear from a democratic congress , having committed a host of obvious crimes .
Fascism !
liberal traitor Says: #13
Very well said.
Kill them with kindness.
Trump them with the truth.
October 30th, 2008 at 1:16 pmever meet a republican
who wasn’t a racist?
^
neither have i.
^
October 30th, 2008 at 1:16 pmRepublican Louisiana Governor, Jindal, should be soooooo proud of his party!
October 30th, 2008 at 1:23 pmI totally understand the frustration, I myself am a VERY frustrated progressive.
I simply get worried when I start seeing fellow progressives echoing neocon sentiments with an absence of the qualifier.
Words have just as much of an effect on the person saything them as they do the person spoken to. Be careful of what you say, I will try to do the same, I am by no means perfect and I’m sure a search of TP’s past threads will yield a multitude of my own comments that smack of being a little too neocon in nature, and I regret all them if they’re there.
As far as letting the Republicans die by the sword they live by, they already are as evidenced by B.O.’s lead in the polls that went up the more McCain’s campaign went the racist and scaremongering road. We don’t need to emulate them. If we do we are no longer an alternative, but rather “more of the same.”
October 30th, 2008 at 1:32 pmOne of the Republican golden children and probable Pres. candidates for 2012, LA Gov. Bobby Jindal, is also Indian American. Imagine the reaction the from the RNC, Hannity, etc. if something like that was to happen to his image; “You just can’t trust those angry, socialist, racist, fear-mongers!!!!!!!”
October 30th, 2008 at 1:39 pm“GOP ads in Minnesota darken Democratic candidate’s skin.” The racist hounds are certainly been released. Notice that the GOP distorts Democratic candidate Madia but if the Democrats distorted Jindal’s skin in an ad, the GOP lawmaker in Louisiana and who happens to be Indian-American, the Demcorats would be tarred and feathered by the public and media.
Desperate people do desperate things. And the GOP are just desperate.
October 30th, 2008 at 1:45 pmI agree with you liberal traitor. I have been letting things like this slide when I shouldn’t. It makes us just as bad.
I just have this hope that the whole attitude of Americans is about to change to somthing positive for a change. It is something that my kids don’t remember…they are in their 20’s so this is the first time they have really been paying attention….the last 8 years or so.
I want them to see the way it can be and I have hope that they may.
tokin liberal considers me to be a low brow dreamer….sae la vie
October 30th, 2008 at 1:47 pmThink how much darker they could have made Mr. Madia if NRCC Treasurer hadn’t absconded with over $500,000 in Republican donations.
The same folks who distorted Madia’s picture couldn’t meet the standard of your local nonprofit in governing the NRCC. And they were all Republican Congressmen!
Imagine them being incompetent in governance. They deserve to be charged with negligence at a minimum for not having a financial audit for over 5 years.
Now with the picture darkening, the NRCC shows it’s meanly unethical as well as incompetent. Rep. Mike Conaway, good Christian and NRCC Audit Chair, are you proud?
October 30th, 2008 at 2:01 pmNot only that, but it is a terrible job of colorizing. He looks more cyanotic than black.
Please make sure he’s breathing !
October 30th, 2008 at 2:12 pmUtterly reprehensible.
October 30th, 2008 at 2:13 pmIn school they teach my children to use and enjoy color to express themselves. They don’t withold the purple because it is an EVIL color. They do not withold the black because it is an inferior color.
So what the hell is wrong with the so called Adults and the fear of colors anyway? I wonder how they would feel about Fuschia or off white!
October 30th, 2008 at 2:44 pmGeez, MinnRepukes just want lily white (good) candidates, instead of darkie (bad) candidates. What in the Grand Dragon is wrong with that?
October 30th, 2008 at 2:53 pmWhy the equivocation in this report? It does not “appear” that the skin tone was darkened: THE SKIN TONE WAS DARKENED! This is NOT accidental.
Is it so difficult to get reporters to report the truth without these false equivalencies? “Some would say the skin is darker” might work if the evidence weren’t right there.
October 30th, 2008 at 3:19 pmWar hero and Native-American, hell its a shoe in. Oops RNC wants him to be more American. Get WHITE dude. RNC is a front for racists. I hope it goes down in flames in my life-time.
October 30th, 2008 at 3:46 pmThe “accident” is getting caught red-handed!
October 30th, 2008 at 4:45 pmjust dont stay too long, darkie!
October 30th, 2008 at 6:20 pmThis is stunning to me. But I I can tell you right now, that is EXACTLY EXACTLY the kinda stuff that works on the conservative-minded folk. They don’t vote on the issues, they almost never do, you darken a guy’s skin that’s what gets their attention.
October 30th, 2008 at 7:19 pm“Ashwin Madia, a former Marine and Iraq war veteran”
Republicans show no respect for veterans. They pretend they do, then they attack, smear & humiliate them. And, of course, provide no support or funding for them. Republicans hate the troops, apparently. This is just more proof.
October 30th, 2008 at 7:45 pmTo Liberal Traitor
It’s not just people of color who are fair game to Republiscum but all Democrats. Don’t forget what they did to Caucasian veterans like Max Cleland and John Kerry.
Liberal Traitor says:
October 30th, 2008 at 9:14 pmSeriously, this guy is a fu(king VETERAN. The GOP supports the troops, my A$$. This guy fought in George’s Quagmire. Is there anyone the GOP won’t smear? Oh wait, I forgot, this guy isn’t white so he’s fair game.
The GOP is arrogant, petty, and stupid. They’re replacing a Republican in a fiscally conservative district, but they’re not far-right or viciously racist (for the most part). They hurt themselves by not simply running a fiscal conservative (though Madia is touting that) who isn’t loathesome.
Negative campaigning is foolish now but for desperation (i.e. Colorado now).
October 30th, 2008 at 11:58 pmRepublicans are darksided evil and demonic.
Republicans hate America and freedom.
October 31st, 2008 at 12:05 amThis goes right into my file of republiscum snake-belly politics. The Mariana Trench has nothing on the depths these swine will sink to in their utter wretchedness.
October 31st, 2008 at 1:29 amJust like the cold war when everyone who didn’t agree with the U.S. was either a communist or a communist sympathizer. toki This poor crazy guy spent half a decade being tortured because a bunch
of stupid politicians araç sorgulama were sure the NVA
