McCain: ‘When I’m President, we’re not gonna let’ Exxon reap record profits.

Today, ExxonMobil shattered records by reporting a $14.83 billion profit, just in the third quarter. Campaigning in Ohio, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) declared that when he’s President, “we’re not gonna let that happen.” Watch it:

McCain must have forgotten about his multi-billion-dollar corporate tax cut, which would give $4 billion in tax breaks to the five biggest oil companies — including more than $1.2 billion to ExxonMobil alone:

Well, it won’t be ‘record profits’ if its $1 less than this year’s profits.

Isn’t a promise to limit corporate profits disturbingly close to socialism Johnny?

  4. stateofthedivision says:

No, he’s going to “Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less”. McCain cites supply & demand as the reason. Guess what? That relationship is fiction.

ExxonMobile made record profits on less production volume as drivers cut their mileage. Demand raced downward the whole 3rd quarter, yet Exxon made nearly $1 billion a week.

“Drive Less, Pay More” is John McCain’s plan. Exxon enjoyed a record quarter courtesy of Bush/Republican Corporafornication.

  7. Chuck Feney says:

Don’t they have to keep making record profits so something can trickle down to us eventually? Obviously, their cup hasn’t overflowth yet.

Is McCain still pushing his gas tax holiday to help lower prices at the pump? Oh, wait, you say that GWB’s economic meltdown was a catastrophic success? Well, never mind.

I’m sure that what Grampy McSame meant to say was “We’re not gonna let that happen. I’m gonna give them a tax cut of over a billion dollars so they can make more profit than this paltry amount.”

  9. stateofthedivision says:

Exxon produced less oil than the third quarter last year, but profits were $4 billion higher.

They sold less oil and made 40% more in profits? Of course, Republicans would say it’s supply and demand. Horse Hockey!

The first week of October saw demand for gas 9.5% lower than last year.

September demand for oil dropped 7%
    –gas up .91 a gallon

    August citizens drove 5.7% less
    –gasoline rose $1.00

July consumers drove 3.6% fewer miles
    –fuel up by $1.13

June miles driven were 4.7% lower
    –gas higher by .30

    May auto use fell 3.8%
    –fuel up .32

    April miles driven dropped 1.8%
    —gas up .18

    March miles dropped 4.3%
    –gasoline up .65 per gallon

This is rather telling, isn’t it? Fox has made a habit of putting “D” next to Republicans’ names instead of “R”, but they generally only do it to disgraced Republicans they are trying to disassociate themselves from (Mark Foley and Ted Stevens have both received the “D” from Fox News, and both when their downfall was being reported).

Does this mean that McCain has now fallen into the category of disgraced Republicans as far as Fox News is concerned?

  27. lurker says:

I guess McCan’t got all the money from the oil companies
that he could, so it’s save for him to say this now.

  28. SP Biloxi says:

“McCain: ‘When I’m President, we’re not gonna let’ Exxon reap record profits.”

And Grandpappy McSame missed the memo on today’s story of Exxon Mobil’s earnings. MsSame’s pixy dust promises of ending cronyism among big business as President have turned to saw dust.

  29. dbadass says:

Did Flippy forget that he claims raising corporate taxes will kill the economy? And how is Bible Spice gonna receive the news that her running mate is proposing such a thing?

  32. Nevar says:

    McCain rally today in Ohio:
“A local school district official confirmed after the event that of the 6,000 people estimated by the fire marshal to be in attendance this morning, more than 4,000 were bused in from schools in the area. The entire 2,500-student Defiance School District was in attendance, the official said, in addition to at least three other schools from neighboring districts, one of which sent 14 buses.”

I find this disturbing. How many of the 6,000 people in attendance were under the age of 18? How many were under the age of 16? How many had no choice whether they wanted to attend this rally ?
This smacks of exploitation and indoctrination. Every school child there is going to scream and cheer when prompted to do so. For McCain to employ this blatantly manipulative tactic just to pull a crowd together is disgusting and even a little scary.

As a point of reference, when Obama and McCain both came to Albuquerque last Saturday, McCain made 3,000 tickets available. 1,500 people showed up.
Obama’s rally was open to the public, no tickets required. Organizers were hoping for 40,000, planning on 30,000, and 45,000 showed up, some folks getting in line 12 hours early.
    Heh.

  33. Keith H. says:

No, I’m sure a McCain administration would carry on the Bush administration policy of accepting sex and drugs from oil company employees in exchange for non-payment of oil drilling royalties.

  37. the Lone Voice of Reason says:

Nevar #32–that was deeply disturbing to hear and pathetic on the part of Blinky’s campaign.

I guess it must have been very liberating for McCain when he finally realized that he had no chance of winning. Since then, he has been free to say anything he wants, so he just spouts whatever comes to mind at any given moment.

  39. MCMetal says:

“My under-age friends who don’t know what in the hell I’m talking about because you were bused in against you will , and can’t vote anyway……”

I’d like to spend the rest of the day knocking on doors and asking this question: Do you really believe McCain when he says ““we’re not gonna let that happen.” regarding record profits for the largest oil company in the world.

If I found someone, I’d ask them why they believe that.
I’d be completely astounded if even one person could give me any type of rationale for believing him.

That said, I got work to do…

    _______

I don’t know if I’d go that far as to call it exploitation or indoctrination. Presidents as well as presidential candidates, of both parties, use kids as props all the time. And I don’t imagine too many school-age kids would mind getting a day off from classes for a field trip to watch a guy speak who’s running for President of the United States.

Whoever the candidate is, however you feel about him, it’s still a chance to be an eyewitness to a part of history. And I’d like to think that the teachers in all those schools used the opportunity to work the trip into their civics lessons (assuming they still have the ability to make lesson plans under NCLB).

Now, if the reason these kids were being bused in is because they couldn’t fill the crowd otherwise, that’s certainly comical. But it doesn’t strike me as evil per se.

The fact the economy is a worry on everyones mind should we really trust what the canidates are telling us about their tax policies. 47. ElBruce says:

Wow, that’s about as Socialist as it gets – just a blanket refusal to allow corporations to profit over a certain amount. I believe the term involved there is “price fixing.” And it’s waaaay further off the deep end than closing tax loopholes, increasing industry regulation or even shifting the tax burden upwards, in terms of just how Socialist that is.

This is just sad. It would be one thing if he was an economic conservative who I could disagree with and vote against, but still have a sliver of respect for. But he isn’t an anything. He’s a piss-poor Democrat and an even worse Republican whenever he careens back and forth between side to side for another day of nonsensical ranting.

  48. Gregor Samsa says:

I would like to know how McCain is not “gonna let that happen”.

Does he mean that he is going to -gasp!- tax oil companies?

I thought taxing was a bad thing, because it is socialism and forces businesses to hire less people -maybe even fire some.

    Oh, that’s right: IOKIYAR.

  49. ObamaIsOur44thpres says:

McCain you are lying. Your tax policy is specificly geared to benefit Exxon and many more wealth machines, while leaving the bulk of the middle and lower class out in the cold. You are more of the same and have nothing fundamental to offer the American people that would be different from Bush where the economy is concern. You are NOT the chosen one to be president of the U.S. at this critical time. So, I rebuke your misguided assumptions in the name and blood of Jesus and send all of them back to the pit of hell where they belong ! I plead the blood of Jesus for Barack, Joe, their family, his presidency, and his campaign this day and forever !

Sen. Obama IS the chosen leader for this country. He will be vindicated in all areas of his life. His national and electoral numbers will increase and he will ultimately win this 2008 election !

No weapon forged against you [ Barack Obama] will prevail, and you [ Barack Obama] will refute every tongue that accuses you [ Barack Obama] . This is the heritage of the servants [ Barack Obama] of the LORD, and this is their [ Barack Obama] vindication from me,” declares the LORD. – Isaiah 54:17

” I [ God ] will send my terror ahead of you [ Barack Obama] and throw into confusion every nation you [ Barack Obama] encounter. I [ God ] will make all your [ Barack Obama] enemies turn their backs and run.” – Exodus 23:27

They will fight against you [ Barack Obama] but will not overcome you, for I [God ] am with you [ Barack Obama] and will rescue you,” declares the LORD. – Jeremiah 1:19
The Lord will rescue me [ Barack Obama] from every evil attack and will bring me [ Barack Obama] safely to his heavenly kingdom. – 2 Timothy 4:18

11 For he will command his angels concerning you [ Barack Obama] to guard you [ Barack Obama ] in all your ways; 12 they will lift you [ Barack Obama ] up in their hands, so that you [ Barack Obama ] will not strike your [his] foot against a stone. 13 You [ Barack Obama ] will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you [ Barack Obama ] will trample the great lion and the serpent. – Psalm 91:11-13

I have given you [ Barack Obama ] authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you [ Barack Obama ]. – Luke 10:19

It’s time for the American people to get it right and NOT vote for McCain-Palin, instead vote for change. It’s time for this country to turn the page and seek a new and better future for ourselves and our children. It’s time for REAL change in Washington, it’s time to elect Barack Obama for president !

Obama-Biden are the wiser and stronger team to solve the crucial challenges we have in this nation and abroad !

    Amen.

I am so starting to hate Lying John McCain. How many lies can this man spew? Please, someone, save all the clips, the articles, all these smears & lies– what an amazing university course this will become!

  51. clarky says:

wow, its amazing that out of 50 comments not one person actually listened to the video. he never said anything about ending profits. he said he would end the corporate handouts that he voted against and obama for. its really handy to just take words out of a quote and make it sound like you want it to.

  52. EugeneDebs says:

    clarky Says:

Questionable he DID begin the statement talking about Exxons record profits. He then talked about the subsidies. (It is more complicated than that of course since there were also a lot of subsidies for renewable energy. THOSE may have been the reason McDoormat voted against it and Obama for it but I digress) After that foray he says when he is president he WONT LET THAT HAPPEN? It is pretty poor grammer to say it that way if he meant the subsidies since he REALLY talked about HIS vote compared to Obamas vote and the President obviously cant do ANYTHING about how a Senator votes. So the syntax of saying he WONT LET THAT HAPPEN about the voting is pretty wierd but it makes sense IF he is talking about the record profits since he could push a windfall profits tax. You MAY be right McDepends isnt the brightest crayon in the box but its FAR from certain it makes at LEAST as much sense to say he was talking about the profits not the votes on subsidies.
