CNN’s Ed Henry reports that Gov. Charlie Crist (R-FL) quickly bolted after Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) sparsely attended rally today:
John McCain’s first rally of the day, in Tampa outside Raymond James Stadium, only drew about 1,100 people. Local reporters noting that at almost the same spot just before the 2004 election, President Bush drew about 15,000 people. Two weeks ago, Obama drew an estimated 8,000.
Republican Gov. Crist, who had previously agreed to do interviews with CNN and various local affiliates, bolted right after the rally with no explanation.
Earlier this month, Crist came under fire for skipping several McCain campaign events. When questioned by Fox and Friends on whether he had “a little bit of a problem” with the campaign, Crist insisted, “I’m proud to stand with John McCain.”
VOLUNTEER TODAY. IT ONLY TAKES A BIT OF YOUR TIME AND IS AS EASY AS PUTTING OUT DOOR HANGERS.
IT’S IMPORTANT TO NOT LET UP AND KEEP THE MOVEMENT GOING.
CONTACT YOUR LOCAL OFFICE AND SEE WHAT YOU CAN DO. THEY PROVIDE ALL THE INFO, YOU JUST DO A LITTLE LEG WORK.
That said, I’m out the door to get back to it. Good luck to us all and let’s vote these S*Bs out of office tommorow!!!
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:04 pmThe first rat off the sinking ship always gets the better seat….
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:04 pm‘We are the quiet majority that goes out and gets things done. … I smell victory,’ said state Rep. Kevin Ambler
That’s because the voting machine memory cards already contain all the votes they’ll need. Right Homer Simpson?
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:07 pmCrist probably had to run out to make plans for his wedding. Or was he only getting married when he had a shot at the VP slot?
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:08 pm.
You know how Bush is like poison…?
McCain = Bush
.
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:08 pmI don’t blame Gov Crist at all.
As evidenced by the attendance, few people find enjoyment in listening to an angry, erratic old white guy slamming his fist & shouting empty promises.
Credibility: Something McCain just can’t buy…
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:09 pmThat’s not victory they’re smelling. They better check their shoes.
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:09 pmI love the smell of stupidity in the morning! It smells like…victory?
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:11 pmShayne Says: That’s not victory they’re smelling. They better check their shoes.
What? Was Dick Morris at the rally? If he was, he’d lick their toes clean & even pay them to do it!
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:12 pm“…I smell victory,’ said state Rep. Kevin Ambler.”
Sorry sir, that’s just the breeze off the gulf, that fine aroma of oil platform, red tide, and dead fish.
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:12 pm“I smell victory,’ said state Rep. Kevin Ambler.”
Amber,
What you smell is McGramps. He’s in need of a Depends change.
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:14 pmWhere’s Joe?
Crist has always looked uncomfortable on the stage with McCain, IMHO.
1100 in the crowd — that is frickin’ hilarious.
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:14 pmNo arms and no legs
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:15 pmWe have you where we want you
Only a flesh wound
Good thing he smells it, because it’s hard to see it with this crowd.
Now that’s teh funny!
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:17 pmSeems to be just the opposite problem that President Obama is having.
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:17 pmMcCain: performing a “verbal odyssey” before a “festival crowd”.
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:20 pmCharlie had a wax and tanning appointment.
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:20 pmLooks like Crist is doing his best not to laugh in that picture.
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:22 pmFor his, um, wedding?
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:24 pmZimzone, Dick Morris, ick. Although David Vitter would probably be happy to change McCain’s diapers. We know Palin can’t be bothered changing diapers.
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:24 pmGood thing he smells it, because it’s hard to see it with this crowd.
You have to be a Diebold programmer to see it.
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:25 pmCrist waited, his eyes darting between the crowd and McCain. He saw his opportunity when McCain finished his speech and leaned over the podium to get a better look at some front row cleavage. Cristacted swiftly and decisively as he bolted for stage left, narrowly escaping the most humiliating debacle of his life.
Then he realized that his fly had been open the whole time. DOH!!!!!!!!!!!
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:26 pmTheir base is so stupid that more of them show up to see Palin than McCain. She makes me want to poke my eardrums out.
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:26 pmWhy we vote….
Okay ladies and gentlemen. Let me explain a couple of very important facts about presidential elections. In spite of what you hear in the MSM, this is not a popularity contest. We’re not voting for Prom Queen or Head Cheerleader or Dog Catcher.
We’re voting for the next Justices of the Supreme Court, we are voting for the individual that will sign into law Bills that will either favor the large MultiNational Corporations or favor “We the People“. We are voting for the individual that will become the next Commander In Chief of our military and will have complete control over how our military is deployed and what their missions will be. We are voting for whether we want to continue to lose young American lives to protect oil fields for favored BIG OIL companies for the next 100 years, or bring our troops home to recuperate and be ready for the DEFENSE of our country.
We are voting for the individual who will be the custodian of our Liberties and our Freedom. We are voting for the individual who will be the leader of the free world and exemplify what America stands for for the rest of the world to see.
We can elect an individual that stands with the American people or one that stands with the favored, we can vote for one that believes we become stronger from the bottom up, or we can vote for one who is on the top and wants to continue to support those on top.
It’s up to us. To vote for a party or candidate that doesn’t support your interest because you don’t like the cut of their opponent’s hair or the sound of their opponent’s laugh or the color of their opponent’s skin is to cut off your nose to spite you face. Many of you did that in 2000 and 2004 and we’re not better off for it. Please think about your vote. It’s not a popularity vote. I know you’re all smarter than that.
“We only want, we only ask, that when we stand up and talk about one nation under God, liberty, justice for everybody, we only want to be able to look at the flag, put our right hand over our heats, repeat those words, and know that they are true.” – Barbara Jordan
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:27 pmCrist bolts from McCain rally.
He knows that he had better get down to the local voting precinct and cast his vote for Obama today ’cause there’ll be some long lines tomorrow.
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:27 pmThe only cleavage Crist is interested in is Joe Not the Plumber’s crack. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:27 pmi wonder how McGramps addressed this “rally”?
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:28 pm“my fellow crickets”?
“The Borgen Project has some good info on the cost of addressing global poverty.
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:29 pm$30 billion: Annual shortfall to end world hunger.
$540 billion: Annual U.S. Defense Budget.”
Shayne Says:
The only cleavage Crist is interested in is Joe Not the Plumber’s crack. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
I believe that there is not anything wrong with that, either….
however, THANKS BUNCHES for putting that image in MY head. I think I need to go pour some drain cleaner in my ears to flush my brain now.
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:31 pmI voted last Saturday for Obama. Here’s one reason why I did: My husband just walked in the door and told me he was layed off today.
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:33 pmOf course he had to leave – Hurricane Obama is going to hit in 24 hours…
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:35 pmI’m donating three hours of my time towards canvassing the neighborhood on behalf of the Dems. It’s the NJ-7th…as close to a swing district as one can find in Jersey
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:37 pmWait, why didn’t McCain just bus in a few thousand elementary school students?
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:39 pm“We only want, we only ask, that when we stand up and talk about

That’s not something he’d be able to get away with in Hillborough county.
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:41 pm‘We are the quiet majority that goes out and gets things done,’ said state Rep. Kevin Ambler.
“QUIET” Majority?
Since when?
Point one, they’re not a majority, as we’ll discover tomorrow.
Point two, they’re about the loudest, whiniest, screchiest “quiet majority” I’ve ever heard.
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:43 pmI misread that headline, thought it said “Christ bolts from McCain rally.” I’m sure he’s pi$$ed at McCain too.

“Thanks for being “inclusive,” Barbara…Let’s just keep the “god” garbage out of the issue, okay?”
Amen to that!
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:50 pm“Crist, I’ve got to get outa here!”
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:50 pmIt’s those slow Republican reflexes. Anyone can see he should have bolted before the rally.

November 3rd, 2008 at 2:55 pmNM-1 is close. The Bushevik, Joe-Arpaio-wannabe, Sheriff Darren White is tied with or only just a little behind ‘community organizer’ and peace activist Matrin Heinrich, an “effete” Nob Hiller. White is much beloved by Bush and the rest of the Pukes. The ABQ Urinal, the local fish-wrap, endorsed McShameful and White (a “lawman”). I think the margin’s pretty close now between White and Heinrich, though the D has an advantage outside the MOE.
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:58 pmInteresting: “A total of 192,229 (NM voters) have cast their ballots for the election already, either via in person early voting or returned absentee ballots. That’s right, nearly 200,000 people — or 74 percent of 2004’s total turnout.”
I love the sound of crickets chirping in the morning.

November 3rd, 2008 at 3:02 pmAny word on Udall vs. Pearce?
November 3rd, 2008 at 3:03 pmIf we can only get both Senate seats…
Let’s see, McDepends chose Gov. Flailin (AK = 3EV) as VP candidate, Did not choose Gov. Crist (FL = 27EV).
HMMM, how’s that workin’ out for ya, Johnny Boy?
November 3rd, 2008 at 3:06 pmSorry for the O/T but news has just hit the wire that Senator McCain is suspending his campaign again! It seems the GOP is nervous about the pending tsunami about to hit America tomorrow. News agencies are calling it “the Obama ‘08 Tsunami” and all hardcore Republicans are being advised to stay indoors tomorrow until further instructions are posted. The storm is expected to effect the entire Nation and is expected to subside some time after 8p.m. pacific time tomorrow nigth. Hardcore republicans may want to continue hunkering down for at least a day or two after the storm due to anticipated dancing in the streets all around the free world. They are also being advised to not watch television from late November 4th through the 5th as psychiatric professionals have determined that this can cause severe depression and anxiety. These complexes may be unavoidable in most circumstances, particularly among neo-conservatives and christian fundamentalists and are expected to last through the forseeable future. Now back to your regular scheduled entertainment…
November 3rd, 2008 at 3:07 pmNevar (Raven?)says;
Any word on Udall vs. Pearce?
If we can only get both Senate seats…
As of yesterday, Udall was up by over 13 points, so looks very safe.
November 3rd, 2008 at 3:09 pmAnd Crist nearly got married this summer when it was a possibility that he would be the VP choice!
November 3rd, 2008 at 3:10 pmI will be very happy to see Pearce sent back to his gas wells in the southeast. Awwwk.
November 3rd, 2008 at 3:15 pmOne can’t help but wonder how many GOoPers will decide to become Dems in the next few months/years. Heck! I wouldn’t want to be associated with the worst President ever and the idiotic Flippy McSpin has done nothing to strengthen the GOP brand. We could see the GOP reduced to nothing but the screeching insanity coming from Bible Spice by the next national election.
November 3rd, 2008 at 3:49 pmI’m glad Crist didn’t make it on the ticket:
1. I like Crist, he seems like a smart, decent guy. I don’t want the Republicans to win and he would have helped guarantee a Florida win.
2. I like Crist, he seems like a smart, decent guy and I’d hate to see him dragged down on the McCain/Titanic sinking ship.
November 3rd, 2008 at 4:02 pmHey, Governor Crist didn’t bolt, he….remembered he’d left the water running, yeah that’s it! He’d left the water running!
November 3rd, 2008 at 4:17 pmCome on 23:59, November 4th and Stop The Insanity!
Impeach, while There’s Still Time!
Conservatives are too busy with their family and with their work. No time for rallies.
November 3rd, 2008 at 4:20 pmIs there only one conservative family? So those rumors of inbreeding have some foundation in fact?
November 3rd, 2008 at 4:26 pmLooks like the McCain camp’s 72 Hour Strategy is working like a charm…

HA HA. More like conservatives are too stupid to FIND any rallies. Only the ones that wander in becuase they are in the neighborhood come to them. While Dems TAKE their families and go AFTER work. You are a joke but a funny one.
November 4th, 2008 at 12:06 amCrist probably just wanted to cruise the mens room before everyone left…
