Former IRI President: McCain personally supported grants for mainstream Khalidi group.

Harper’s Ken Silverstein reports today that former International Republican Institute (IRI) President Bruce McColm revealed to him that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), as chairman of the IRI board, directly supported funding for Professor Rashid Khalidi’s Center for Palestine Research and Studies in the early 1990s. McColm explained to Silverstein:

All our [grant] proposals had to be approved at board meetings with John McCain in attendance and in agreement. John did think highly of these grants. … Ironically, it was Khalidi’s academic background and his known coolness to the PLO that attracted our interest. How strange to see the McCain campaign use Khalidi as a “type of terrorist” with whom Obama hangs around.

Over the last week, the McCain campaign has attempted to smear Khalidi as a radical and link him to Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL).

McCain’s apology to Professor Khalidi and Sen Obama in 3…2…1…

    Nevermind.

It’s the roving list of Obama smears:

    1. Rev. Wright
    2. Bill Ayers
    3. Rashid Khalidi

Having cycled through once, Repugs returned to Rev. Wright the day before the election. They did so through the National Republican Trust.

Trust them to lie and twist the narrative to their advantage. A pox on the Republican House.

    Beware the scary black man!

    – - I’m sure Gov. Palin will inform one of her adoring mobs of this fact out on the stump today. Herein lies the problem; the Obama campaign won’t stoop to tactics that will trick ignorant voters while that’s the McPalin base these days.

  4. dasm says:

Once again, The McCain campaign, caught in a blatant lie, smear, & a coverup of McCain’s own involvement, will say nothing whatsoever to correct the dishonesty they spew. It really is time to remove the lies, deceit, hate-mongering of the Republicans. The U.S. deserves better.

  5. stateofthedivision says:

Holding the McCain/Palin/Wurzlebacher narrative together for 24 more hours, that’s Sargent Schmidt’s aim.

Then it can implode into the black hole of hate, rage, and ignorance that the Republican Party now represents.

Thomas Jefferson would call for revolution under today’s America.

    McCain’s bumper sticker: IOKIYAR

BTW, The rightwingers like to assert that Obama didn’t stand up to Rev. Wright for those inflammatory words in his sermons. In looking at the videos, those were two sermons.
ALL his sermons are on video. If there were more than that why hasn’t the RNC found them? The quote about the chickens was actually a repetition of the words of our own Iraq Ambassador. The words about GD America were taken out of context.
I have been spending time on a local newspaper blog and I am disgusted with the racism, the lies, the ad hominem attacks and the degree of nastiness that prevails in this part of Illinois.

  8. Nevar says:

    Maybe McCain just forgot…
    sarc/off

  9. Marie says:

Doesn’t the fact that McCain has used Joe the Plumber for the past two weeks indicate that he is totally out of ideas for his campaign.

  10. Chuck Feney says:

    The old double standard:
If a Democrat does something, it is “Radical.” But, if a Republican does the same thing, it is “mavericky.”

  11. Nevar says:

    or just plain -icky

  12. DutchHenry says:

Here is the question ,why can’t Professor Rashid Khalidi sue McCain & his campaign for defamation of character ?Same goes for Bill Ayers.McCain & his campaign or some GOP shills are running around saying Ayers murdered Americans. Can anyone who is an attorney address this.

One more time just for fun!

    ‘Twas the night before elections
    And all through the town
    Tempers were flaring
    Emotions all up and down!

    I, in my bathrobe
With a cat in my lap
    Had cut off the TV
    Tired of political crap.

    When all of a sudden
    There arose such a noise
I peered out of my window
    Saw McCain and his boys

They had come for my wallet
    They wanted my pay
    To give to the CEO’s
Who had not worked a day!

    He snatched up my money
    And quick as a wink
    Jumped back on his bandwagon
As I gagged from the stink

    He then rallied his henchmen
    Who were pulling his cart
I could tell they were out
    To tear my country apart!

    ” On Fannie, on Freddie,
    On Cheney and Palin!
    On Exxon and Enron”
    He screamed at his failin’.

They took off for his cause
And as he flew out of sight
I heard him laugh at the Nation
Who wouldn’t stand up and fight!

So I leave you to think
    On this one final note-
IF YOU DONT WANT MORE BUSH
    GET OUT AND VOTE!!!!

  14. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

When this is all said and done, I hope that Khalidi sues the RNC and McBush personally for slander. I’d like to see Ayres do it too. Just for once I would like to see them shown that they can’t ruin the reputations of upstanding citizens in an attempt to smear a political opponent.

I was just wishing that the US had UK-style libel laws. There would be so much they simply wouldn’t get away with!

  17. Max-1 says:

    .

    So,
The GOP seems to have themselves a Candidate that financially supports a terrorist and a running mate who sleeps with a separatist.

    Talk about McC*nt(R)y first!

The video linked below has additional information on McCains’s terrorist associations.

Please take some time to share this video with your undecided friends on this election eve. Watch this explosive new video on John McCain. It is in the style of Obama attack videos and those of The MouthPiece. It is fast paced and has an excellent soundtrack.

  19. ElBruce says:

Khalibi’s a working academic in the U.S. and isn’t running for anything. Therefore, these accusations cross the border into legal slander. He should sue.

So should Ayers, in fact. As he hasn’t been convicted of a crime, it’s slander to call him a criminal.
