Kristol: Palin ‘reminds me a lot of FDR.’

Yesterday on Fox News Channel, Weekly Standard Editor Bill Kristol predicted that Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) has a bright future in American politics even if her ticket does not win today’s election. Kristol noted that Franklin Delano Roosevelt lost his bid for vice president in 1920 only to be elected president twelve years later:

KRISTOL: She has a future, she may not run in four years if McCain loses. Franklin Roosevelt, as a 38 year old, lost the vice presidential race. He became governor of New York and then was elected twelve years from [then]. … She reminds me a lot of FDR. I just said that so that can go — so the left wing blogs can go crazy.

FDR could have had a flatline EEG and would still be more intelligent than Caribou Barbie.

I voted early this morn, the turnout was quite heavy.

    Thanks, Bill
We basically owe this Obama win to you, yaknow.

Without your behind the scene wrangling & insisting Palin be the VP pick, we may have been looking at a Republic as President.

Thanks again, Billy, you really know how to pick ‘em…

I find the results of her investigation into her own ethical lapses to be rather chilling. It concludes that she cannot be held responsible for the actions of a non-elected citizen, even if that citizen is her own husband who made phone calls from a table in her office.

I arrived to my polling place before 7:00 and was shocked at the line. I’ve never been more than 20 spaces from the ballot table so being 200th was a bit surprising. Sadly, I live in Alabama and I’m sure 90% of the people in line with me were voting for McCain. It was nice to see the turnout though.

  20. Dumb_Hussein_Fox says:

Well, Palin and FDR are/were both carbon-based life forms, but the parallels don’t go too far beyond that.

    I’m missing something here.

When I look at Palin, I register a lot of really dumb quotes. The lady didn’t even know what the VP does. Seeing Russia is foreign policy experience, etc.

Yet, on an NPR interview this AM, one guy actually said that he was a conservative and would vote for McCain/Palin but he’d rather be voting for Palin/McCain.

  38. shoeless says:

The first order of business for the new Congress next January should be to pass a law forbidding fascist neocons from comparing either themselves or other extremist right-wing Republicans to FDR.

Kristol is delusional. The “…left wing blogs…” could give a rat’s ass if/when Bill Kristol spews his obvious BS rhetoric. It’s old news, Kristol is a joke, and he and the rest of the miserable scum like Hannity, Limbaugh, Savage, etc. should go crawl back into the cesspool they share.

This is his schtick now. He pulled it like three times on John Stewart. This is highly annoying. The only way for a rightie to have any fun at all when his pov is being repudiated by the American people.

  43. 49erDem says:

Actually, Obama is FDR. In 1930, after great economic turmoil, Democrats swept to a considerable majority in the House and a small majority in the Senate. Republicans spent ‘31 and ‘32 blocking Democratic legislation to help with the economic crisis. As we all know, in ‘32, Democrats continued sweeping the House and Senate to margins that would keep them in power for 4 decades. With the Executive and Legislative branches under Democratic control, FDR proceeded to enact policy which created the strongest middle class in the history of civilization. In 1980, republicans began dismantling it again. That’s over now. Time to rebuild.

This folks is a truly great man. A man who would sacrifice his self-respect, professionalism, and credibility just to tweak leftwing bloggers.

It’s not a joke if what regularly comes out of your yakker is baseless nonsense and predictions that consistently are disproven time and time again. When you take your job seriously occasionally instead of being the worst political salesman in the country and actually get a call right for once in your life, you can joke a little. But being the biggest tool on television and an utter embarrassment to people who actually have some pride, you ought to be digging in and trying to nail one for once instead of worrying about some bloggers who are supposed to be so irrelevant.

Kristol is used to spewing stupid shit and getting praised for it at Fox News. As he showed on The Daily Show if you call him on it he’ll pretend it was a joke. He doesn’t even have the courage of his convictions. He is a coward just like the good neocon he is. I long for the days of tar and feathering.

  72. Anacher Forester says:

Palin is exactly like FDR. That is if you take away Roosevelt’s intellect, vision, curiosity, fortitude, compassion and obvious greatness. We’d also have to ignore his experience as Assistant Secretary of the Navy during WWI (he created the Navy Reserve FFS!) and his lil’ stint as Governor of New York.

Other than that Palin’s a dead ringer for FDR.

  73. 49erDem says:

What does one expect from a guy who wrote an entire book on how fascism was actually liberal in origin?

Which brings to mind another almost forgotten historical tidbit from the early ’30’s. A group of wealthy industrialists who admired the “order” or Hitler-style fascism planned a military coup in 1933 to remove FDR from office. Their biggest mistake was to include WWI hero General Smedley Butler in their plans. He played along, but went to Congress and spilled the beans. The entire incident was covered up by the media. If you don’t believe me, Google on “Prescott Bush” AND “1933″ AND “coup” and find out for yourself.
