So, I guess my vote in the blue state of Massachusetts, for Green candidate, McKinney didn't turn the election -- after all.

Congratulations to Senator Obama and his supporters.

Listened to his speech last night. The man speaks beautifully.

bit is praying that the country is as happy with its choice of President on Nov 5, 2012 as it is today.

Some folks are saying that McCain's concession speech was "gracious and warm." On racial matters, I found it ignorant at best and vicious at worst. McCain summed up racial relations in the past as having "stained" the country's reputation and "denied some Americans the full blessings of American citizenship," then he referred to Booker T Washington being invited to the White House by Teddy Roosevelt as having occasioned "outrage in many quarters." Thus did he trivialize almost to non-existence two centuries of slavery and a century of Jim Crow, lynching and pervasive and pernicious racism. Even Reagan did better than this, but I suppose to the all-white crowd in Phoenix (I watched quite a while and saw not a single black face or even a clearly Hispanic one) McCain's words were quite a revelation. Later, towards his closing, McCain added that "Americans never hide from history." Truly astounding words.

After trivializing slavery and racism, McCain got ugly. He suggested that the election of an African-American to the presidency should erase the "memories" of the past and that it showed that we are "a world away from the cruel and prideful bigotry of that time" (namely, the time when TR invited BTW to the White House). Then came these words: "Let there be no reason now for any American to fail to cherish their citizenship in this, the greatest nation on earth." This strikes me as a slap at Michelle Obama for having said that once she had not been proud of America. More broadly, it further suggests that African-Americans, Hispanics, women, gays, and other disaffected individuals have no reason to be disaffected. They have their token now, and thus have no right or reason to feel the memories of past injustice or the daily sting of present ones. Well if he says so.....

Thank God that this election is over and America's getting back on track! Compare and contrast the dignified, composed, astute campaign that President Elect (God, I Love the sound of that!!!) Obama to the screeching, shrieking freak show that the republicans put on. We've got a Statesman and a Uniter, a true builder of consesus heading in to the White House! Let's all keep up our efforts, send him our best and all pull together to cure the Nation of it's ills. It won't be easy, but We, The People of the United States can, and will get 'er done!

Dr. Hussein Matt Says:
Herr dubyah was a bipartisan president?

That article is a total load of crap. Is this going to be the new theme on Bush: saving his "legacy"? Bush was a self-serving, party-first partizan hack, and puppet for the neocon agenda. He is a traitor and a criminal, and trying to sugar coat anything about his administration is beyond bizzarre. I have no pity or sympathy for him or any of his toadies or pals. His legacy, as history will record it, will be one of the darkest times in American history (and that is going up against some dark times). The divisiveness that the republicans hve engaged in for the last 8 years will continue to scar us for many years to come.

But the healing has begun.

bettybrown

I know First Lady Michelle Obama will change that pronto.

Hillary wasn't the right woman for so many reasons, it had absolutely nothing to do with sexism. Hillary became the sameoldsameold real quick. Her demeanor after her lost proved volumes towards her personality. Her and her husband's lack of hustle for Sen. Obama (it wasn't needed after all; that was proven early) ended Hillary's presidential career. It's her fault.

Are we all so sure Obama won't just pander to sore-losing conservatives and turn into another Bill Clinton? Hardly progressive...

hussein toasterhead Says:

muzz Says:

Oh my God - President OBAMA - if I died right now it would be fine.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:28 am
________

No, it wouldn't. It really wouldn't.

There's still a country to fix and a planet to heal. This isn't the end of a journey, it's the beginning of one.

On January 20th we celebrate. On January 21st we get to work.

Ease up.

2/3 of the job is already completed (a real "Mission Accomplished.) The remaining 1/3 (us) will continue to work to make our nation a much better place for all of us (I hear Michael Jackson song coming on) and through our efforts we will inspire others to do the same.

take a deep breath and say President Obama.

I happier than happy.

Oh, and KKKarl Rove: the best thing you can do right now is to swallow a pack or two of mentos and slam down a 2-liter of coke. That'll make it all better......

Somewhere, in an undisclosed dark, damp cell there is a small group of programmers with "Diebold" uniforms screaming, "We did the best we could.....!!!!" While a shadowy figure, roughly Cheney-shaped, approaches them and says, "Bwaaawk! Begin the waterboarding, and get me some electrodes."

i must add, to democrat soldier, that i have always said - since about the age of 14, that i would see a black male president before a woman. do not get me wrong, seriously - i think obama is freaking awesome, and i have shed so many emotional tears over this election. and last night was a night i will NEVER forget in my lifetime. obama has opened the door for other minorities to be judged by their character first - and not their skin NOR their gender.
but, this is why i still believe i may never see a woman as president in my lifespan - or, if i do, it will be when i'm super, super old. the gender roles are no where near on a level of equality. equality meaning - judge me HUMAN first, FIRST always. that, and women in power, due to the gender roles, can not win. if a woman is tough, or "masculine" as men have titled that trait, she's a "ball-buster", and a butt of jokes. if she cries, or shows any sign of the so-called "weaker" emotions - she's too much an emotional wreck of a wimp to lead the country, and most especially the armed forces.
i know most men, and many women, might take offense to my opinion. but, i do think it's not only spot on - it's what keeps women from truly, truly being a LARGE part of power in this country. my god, we still don't even get paid the same damned amount of pay for the same freaking job as a man. sheesh.
ending on a joyful note, though: WE GOT OUR COUNTRY BACK!!!!

Above the Clouds Says:

The apparent GOP talking point (courtesy of Morning Joe) is that America should brace itself for the huge let down because Obama has been "deified" by the electorate and he is sure to disappoint.

HAHAHAHA his show is obsolete like his i'm-not-a-repug ideas. I hope MSNBC makes him stop being loofahboy long lost Asian brother. We already saw that episode on "King of the Hill."

Ain't nobody gonna tolerate 8 yrs+ of his incorrect, incohirant out-of-sync trash talking.

And joey, the kool-aid taste great. I would offer you a cool glass full, but I don't want you to wet your nappie.

It wasn't a dream!! It's real!!!! Finally had my cuppa joe and am fully awake and functional. I think I can quit pinching myself now.

i don't know about other cities - but los angeles was full of pure joy!!!! people milling about the streets downtown, tipsy, happy, the honking of car horns...oh, was this the riot the right was so scared of? ha!!!!
my favorite part of election night: i took a cab back from my polling place. i said hello to the cab driver, told him where i was going, then there was silence, with only npr naming senator obama as president-elect obama. a few moments later the cab driver says, "i am a 50 year old man, an armenian, i love so much about this country. but, what i love most is what i've been saying for months: for the most part, most americans do NOT have racist blood flowing through their veins."
melodramatic? maybe...but, i thought it was an awesome thing to hear right after hearing that obama had won.
