Alaskans are wary of Palin’s return.

Alaskans are wary of Palin’s return.

palin-mic.jpgWhen Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) returns to Alaska today, she faces a far different political landscape than when she was thrust onto the national stage in August. Her approval among Alaskans has plummeted 12 points, and she returns to face mounting scandals including Troopergate and the dispute over her family’s travel expenses that she charged to the state. The Anchorage Daily News wonders, “Can Sarah Palin go home again?“:

In the 68 days since Alaska’s governor began her run for vice president, things have changed on the home front. Some of her former allies are fuming, and former enemies are lying in wait. Public perceptions of the governor have also changed. Has the governor changed as well?

Seeming to signal that she intends to return to the national stage in the future, Palin told Wasilla supporters last night, “I am neither bitter nor vanquished, but very confident in the knowledge that there will be another day.”

Mostly they’re just afraid that she’ll be naked when she steps off the plane.

She will replace Sen. Stevens as the Senator of Alaska.

    – - Really? How’s that gonna work? Stevens has won reelection and Palin has two years more as governor.

I really DO hope Palin is the GOP’s shining star because all she’s ever going to be is a lightning rod for the Dixie, Evangelical fringe right of the party. And as she ages, she’ll appeal even less to all the middle-aged white guys who wanted to vote MILF ‘08.

  8. dbadass says:

    Rapture Ready.
That’s a change of position isn’t it? Compare your first statement to your second and you will see my point. Nice try though… BTW: You have been wrong aboout every prediction I have every read that you keyboarded. Why would anyone bet on the dude that claims to talk to god but can’t get anything right?

    Right.

Just like god told you Huckabee would be the elected president.

  10. Buckie Boy says:

RupturedRectal – Yeah, sure she will, seems how she is just as corrupt as Stevens.

The hag has had her 15 minutes of fame, or should that be flame? (she sure burned McSame)

And it seems she used even more funds for her own greed…she sure likes to abuse those public funds, doesn’t she.

  11. Jackie says:

If that happens she’s not sure she wont have charges currently. This game will be played by the players and Sarah wont win this one either. Uncle Ted would be wise to fine someone else to take his Senate Seat.

She will replace Sen. Stevens as the Senator of Alaska.
    _______________________________________________________________

It’s possible. Ted Stevens will surely either be resigning or face expulsion from the U.S. Senate. When that happens, according to the Alaska constitution, there will be a special election to fill the seat.

Palin could decide to run. If she does, Alaskans may vote her in. And if they do, they deserve what get. OR they may decide to vote for someone who won’t make them a laughing stock on the national stage.

  20. Gregor Samsa says:

Apparently, she still has a healthy approval rate among Republicans.

Must be that they approve of her going on $150K-plus shopping sprees for her family and herself on campaign donors’ money. Talk about subservient, obedient sheep.

  21. Wayne A. Schneider says:

All kidding aside, would her being found guilty of violating Alaska’s State Ethics Law not be a disqualier to serve in the United States Senate? I mean, isn’t it sort of the reason that Ted Stevens will get kicked out? Technically, it’s not, I know. But until Alaska decides what to do about that charge, she’ll have the same kind of cloud hanging over her.

Alaskan’s re-elected Ted. Ted will probably have to leave his position. Therefore, they will have a run-off. I guarantee Gov. Palin will attempt to take his seat.

dbadass, I think you got your answer: no, Daryll didn’t learn his lesson with the “President-elect Huckabee” thing. Nor with yesterday’s “tonight will go McCain’s way.”

You see, my friend, Daryll doesn’t learn in the same way that you and I do, i. e., by observing and assessing verifiable reality. Nope, Daryll “learns” through divine revelation alone.

It hasn’t been working too well for him lately, but heck, even God has to run into a cold streak now and then.

I wouldn’t bet on it. They seem to revel in electing people who make them a laughing stock on the national stage.

Not that it will impress Alaskans much.

    From the latest Newsweek article:

One aide estimated that she spent “tens of thousands” more than the reported $150,000, and that $20,000 to $40,000 went to buy clothes for her husband. Some articles of clothing have apparently been lost. An angry aide characterized the shopping spree as “Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast,” and said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books.

I hope the good folks of Wasilla look into who actually built that 3,700 sq. ft. lakeside mansion, Casa de Palin. Call me a skeptic, but I’m seriously doubting that the First Dud and his drinking buddies built that in two months. Guessing that it is more than coincidence that the Wasilla sports arena was being built at exactly the same time, one mile away, and after Sweet Sarah, as mayor, had done away with all building permit requirements.

She’s one low down dirty b*tch. McCain got just what he deserved with this pick.

    PEACE

this lady is a cancer, the conservative commentator who used this term could not be more correct…shes dangerously incompetent and aligned with some frighteningly psychotic religious cults..”Jabob’s Army” or some weirdness like that…

I think a bright light needs to be shined on her, and all her misdeeds, she needs to be charged and imprisoned for her crimes…her even being allowed to have a chance to be a heartbeat away from one of the most potent nuclear arsenals in the world is frightening, and we need to make sure that she is punished for all the misdeeds she has committed while in office, so as to send a message to all future sarah palins that no, if you are just a corrupt, hipocrtical, bible beating beating hillybilly with 2 brain cells to rub together, you should NOT put yourself on the national stage…the energy radiating from this woman and her twisted closet case preening queen husband truly frightens me, and people like her should be kept far away from any real power..

  36. Chocolate Jesus says:

    >Some say Alaskans are talking impeachment…

God I hope so…if Stevens re-election bid is any indicator,
the people of alaska apparently dont mind convicted felons running thier government..although I HIGHLY suspect electonic voting fraud/ballot box stuffing in the stevens case…voting fraud is much easier when the party trying to commit it has control of the government..

You can always fool Alaskans if you bring enough pork with you. Why do you think they reelected a convicted felon? It’s ridiculous that most felons can’t vote but a felon can hold a Senate seat.

That is the only thing that can explain the vast discrepancy in the polls and what ended up happening.

  42. loonwalk says:

According to Thom Hartmann (air am), for every dollar Alaska pays to US gov, they get 2 dollars back. Oregon (and I assume most other medium-sized states) gets 70 cents back on the dollar.

  43. MrSquirrel says:

Well I’m glad to hear she’s not “vanquished”. Did you write that yourself, Sarah?

  44. Gregor Samsa says:

That’s true. Her approval rating is due to those checks the Alaskan government sends to all the residents.

But please don’t call it “redistribution of wealth”. Call it “unique situation”.

“We also have seen some precinct anomalies that have to be addressed (one precinct shows hardly any votes for Mark and Ted, but large numbers of votes for the two independents – likely a machine calibration error).”

“machine calibration error” eh? gosh, what a charitable euphemism…well of course its just an “error” I mean, who woold imagine a convicted felon would incorporate election fraud as part of his campaign?

    investigate…

  46. loonwalk says:

Another number, Palin said that as gov’ner she was in charge of 24k employees. The state population is ~635k. That would be 1 in every ~25 people working for the state, or 25 people’s taxes support one employee- not to mention county and city employees- seems impossible.

  47. abarts says:

She doesn’t have to go home, but she can’t stay here! (Washington, DC)

  48. ElBruce says:

Although 12 points is a “plummet” for most people, that still leaves her at 68 percent there, which is not bad at all. Alaska likes her. She should stay there.

  49. blue state bob says:

Yes Bible Spice, there will be another day. Another day that you are even more exposed as a fraud, a grifter, a fundamentalist, and someone who takes a perverse pride in wallowing in her own stupidity and ignorance.

Oh, and you’re 17 year-old daughter will drop a kid soon, grandma.

  50. tarazan says:

She has an experience that no other candidate has,she has the experience of witch hunting with Thomas Muthee.

  51. MapleStreet says:

Sorry Alaska, but Constitutionally you can’t close your borders (interstate commerce yah know).

However, if you could prove some public health damage, perhaps you could justify it.

Otherwise, you made her. You get her.

  52. Hemlock for Gadflies says:

Judging by what we’re now learning, it doesn’t seem all that likely that she’ll be able to FIND her way back.

  53. MrSquirrel says:

Although 12 points is a “plummet” for most people, that still leaves her at 68 percent there, which is not bad at all. Alaska likes her. She should stay there.

Yeah, but that 68 percent number is from a poll conducted September 20-22. A lot has transpired in those 40 days, so the number might be somewhat lower now, for all we know.

  54. the Lone Voice of Reason says:

    Alaska:

  55. Chocolate Jesus says:

    > Another number, Palin said that
    > as gov’ner she was in
    > charge of 24k employees.

If that number has ANY basis in reality (a BIG if), i suspect that may have been the total amount of people alaska employed in her 2 year span as govenator

  56. IgnoranceIsNotBliss says:

“I am neither bitter nor vanquished, but very confident in the knowledge that there will be another day.” – Palin

I beg to differ: It seems like the American Voters in the lower 48 vanquished your ass right back to Alaska.

That’s what you get for underminding the intelligence of 67 million people.

  57. republicanSScareme says:

With any luck, Sarah Palin will be as hard to find as Bigfoot.
