With the conservative movement in “dire straits” following Tuesday’s election, the right wing is embarking on a series of soul-searching meetings to figure out how to re-group. On Hugh Hewitt’s radio show last night, Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol said he was “resolved to ignore all these conservative get-togethers for the next month or two.” Listen here:
But Kristol doesn’t appear to be working too hard to “ignore” the conservative meetings. Politico’s Jonathan Martin reports that Kristol will attend a meeting of conservative intellectuals at the National Review Institute on Nov. 19.
With the GOP firmly pushed to the fringes where they belong, I, too, will ignore these “conservative get-togethers.”
November 6th, 2008 at 6:03 pmI’m sure those meetings are going to be a barrel of laughs — if you’re amused by a petulant show of finger pointing.
November 6th, 2008 at 6:07 pmi just luv the idea of “conservative intellectuals.” don’t need a real big tent for that bunch….
November 6th, 2008 at 6:08 pmI venture they all ignore themselves. How else would they be able to go forward with such hateful zeal?
November 6th, 2008 at 6:15 pmIsn’t the term “conservative intellectuals” an oxymoron?
November 6th, 2008 at 6:16 pmKrazny, you beat me to it. ;o)

November 6th, 2008 at 6:17 pmAnother possible terrorist organization. This appears to be spreading. Hopefully the FBI will be able to free up some of their undercover agents from watching the grandmas’ knitting for peace clubs and infiltrate these ‘conservative intellectuals’ gatherings. Unless, of course, they are already members!
November 6th, 2008 at 6:21 pmLets see, are “conservative intellectuals” people that can speak one sentence out of a paragraph coherently, as opposed to Bush, who cannot speak one coherently?
November 6th, 2008 at 6:22 pmWhy are we hearing more about Bill Kristol than Rahm Emanuel? One’s a conservative pundit, while the other will run the White House operation as Obama’s Chief of Staff.
Please consider helping progressives understand how Rahm will fulfill Barack’s agenda, especially when Emanuel’s history shows him to be corporate-owned, Pro-Israel hammerhead.
The NYT and WaPo have pieces on Emmanuel. TP (with its Podesta links) would be in a unique position to provide insight.
November 6th, 2008 at 6:23 pmSoooo, all the folks who ruined the GOP are now going to try and re-build the GOP? How about they just set fire to the dying party and simply begin anew – with a more human nature.
Kristols group were the ones steering this thing into the ground – why select them to fix things?
Is failing upward a GOP rule?
November 6th, 2008 at 6:47 pmrpopstar Says: #3
Conservative intellectuals. Two words that go together like caustic and ice cream, poison and Life Savers, Karl Rove and integrity, Fox News and journalism, Rush Limbaugh and truth, etc., etc., etc.
November 6th, 2008 at 6:50 pmConservative is good.
Neocon is bad.
Stay with me…
Let’s conserve the environment.
A conservative does not run up the debt at their house. They pay as they go (tax and spend) instead of running it up on the credit card (borrow and spend.)
Remember that Democrats were smeared as “tax and spend” during Ronnie Rayguns admin (and beyond). At the same time and for years since the RePugniScums have been “borrow and spend” — screw the future — traitors to our best national interest!
Should you tax and pay as you go or run a tab against our kids future?
November 6th, 2008 at 7:10 pmWhat is this “Bill Kristol Day” on TP? I for one have read enough about this a$$hat for a day, a week and even a year! Find something new to post, please TP.
November 6th, 2008 at 7:18 pm“Conservative intellectuals”?? Perhaps one of the favorite conservative hangouts – a bathroom stall – would suffice for such a meeting. And hey– why would Kristol be invited to any gathering with the word “intellectuals” in it? This guy is still promoting Palin!
November 6th, 2008 at 7:20 pmConservative get togethers ?
November 6th, 2008 at 7:28 pmNeo cons are not conservatives , they’re monsters who worship at the altar of the god of war ! Libertarians and any decent republicans (assuming there are any left) should put this bunch out of their collective miseries , they have destroyed the republican party !
um…isn’t that a conflict in terms?
November 6th, 2008 at 8:03 pmWas that whiny pantload that “the boner” dropped today an example of their strategy for “regrouping”? I hope so…
November 6th, 2008 at 8:25 pmI’m still waiting for some inside info to decide.
Are these meetings of finger pointing ?
Are they a hidden attempt by either neocons or religious right to grab power in the vacuum ?
Are they an honest soul searching ?
Are they an attempt of the traditional conservatives to wrest their party back ?
November 6th, 2008 at 8:56 pmThat’s the problem with Republicans like Kristol, they can’t do the math. Fuzzy economics and “the math” and apparently can’t read a calendar either.

It is best to regroup after getting your a$$ kicked…
… Lick the wounds, take a shower, bandage and get a good sleep.

November 7th, 2008 at 1:01 am“Conservative” and “intellectual” sounds kind of oxymoronic to me…especially after watching George W. Bush over the past eight years…and talking to people who watch Faux News and listen to Rush Limbaugh on a regular basis.
