Kristol Attacks Anonymous McCain Aides Dishing To The Press As ‘Paranoid’ And ‘Disloyal To John McCain’

With the final election results in, the traditional finger-pointing and back-biting of the losing campaign has set in at a furious pace. Last night, CNN’s Dana Bash reported that “three senior McCain advisers” were saying that senior foreign policy adviser Randy Scheunemann had been fired from the campaign last week for “trashing” other campaign staffers:

One of the aides tells CNN that campaign manager Rick Davis fired Scheunemann after determining that he had been in direct contact with journalists spreading “disinformation” about campaign aides, including Nicolle Wallace and other officials.

Scheunemann, campaign manager Rick Davis and top adviser Mark Salter denied that he had been fired. McCain press aide Michael Goldfarb told Bash this morning that while Scheunemann wasn’t dismissed, he was essentially excommunicated by the McCain staff:

However, Goldfarb did concede that Scheunemann’s campaign e-mail was cut off, and his blackberry was taken away late Friday. Goldfarb admits that senior McCain aides were mad at Scheunemann, and wanted to fire him, but he insists they stopped short of that, and instead simply turned off his campaign communication.

McCain aides claim Scheunemann was providing “a constant stream of poison” to New York Times columnist Bill Kristol, who has also been accused of advising Sarah Palin behind the campaign’s back. On Fox & Friends this morning, Kristol attacked the campaign’s anonymous back-biters as “paranoid” and “disloyal to John McCain.” Watch it:

Though Kristol never mentioned Scheunemann, he appeared to hint at why the aide’s “campaign e-mail was cut off.” Talking about the last days of the campaign, Kristol said that some staff “were going through other campaign workers’ emails…to try to see who was allegedly leaking stuff, negative stuff.”

Great segment on Countdown's Worst Person in the World last night.

Basically, Kristol (and Rush, and O'rally!) are insignificant now!

  4. liberal traitor Says:

    Rats, meet Sinking Ship.

Seriously, these are the type of people we almost had running the country for at least the next 4 years.

    That is FRIGHTENING.

Leaks. Reading other people's email. Backbiting. Confusion. "Spreading Disinformation." Sounds a lot like what we've had for 8 years.

  5. raynman Says:

    Libby had his Novak

    Scheunemann has his Kristol

    we're all "scooter"s now.

  7. ralph the wonder llama Says:

There are a few reasons that we can now look back on the Sarah Palin candidacy with some gratitude; she was nearly single-handedly responsible for the implosion of the McCain campaign, and her stunning ignorance revealed to the nation the extent to which wingnuts will choose party over country.

But one negative consequence of this whole episode is the unfortunate reemergence of William the Bloody into some form of political relevance. I think the nation is better off when he remains an insignificant figure of ridicule.

  8. celtic cynic Says:

Nothing is more enlightening than the raucous sounds exiting the holier-than-thou, self righteous garbage can of republican politics.

  9. Nevar Says:

Usually candidates who have lost an election have the dignity, and the common sense, to quietly fade into the background.
They then might have the chance to run another day.

Here we have proof positive of the immaturity, the ignorance, and the small mindedness of the generation of right wing politicians, and the media who are supported by, and support them.

Ronald Reagan ushered in the era of the show-biz president. At least he could act, albeit poorly. It degenerated to the point where we had a totally inept and bumbling boor propped up in the Oval Office, manipulated and controlled by a Vice President who skirted, scoffed and outright ignored the Constitution and the rule of law.
The facade of incompetent and unfit leaders; sold to the citizens on the basis of appearances, glamorized and gussied up biographies, has collapsed.
Fox News, their loyal pundits, and the poor spirited personages they tried to prop up have nothing left but to savage each other like a pack of stray dogs fighting over an old chicken carcass.

  10. unbelievable Says:

This could be the beginning of the end of the Republican Party. In order to becom relevant again, they will have to change - the very thing they fight against. Oh the conundrum...

Should provide hours of shadenfreude for those of us who have been abused by them over the last 8 years. :)

  11. Dr. Hussein Matt Says:

More proof that McCain is not qualified to be president. He ran an incompetent campaign, staffed with incompetent workers, and selected an incompetent VP.

  12. GSD Says:

Kristol should have his name legally changed to Epic Fail.

The man is a human wrecking ball.

The aftermath of the GOP implosion is going to be a beautiful thing to watch. Who could have ever imagined these snakes would turn on their own?

Too bad they could not control themselves enough to hold off fighting until they get a pay per view event to earn a few bucks. It appears they will need the money after they are shown the door by JM. Who the hell else would hire these vermin?

  14. ElBruce Says:

Tip: there is no John McCain campaign today.

  15. Curlew Says:

Who cares what this idiot says? We have adult supervision in the White House starting on January 20 so whatever Bill Kristol or some other insignificant individual says or thinks should not matter. These boorish fools will continue to try to fire up their dwindling base until it sinks in that Rovian politics is extinct. As for me, I'm going to watch Barack's speech from Tuesday night and maintain my face-wide Cheshire Cat-like grin.

  16. lurker Says:

    Sorta OT
The rude pundit has a funny post about the Republican
    pundits.
    Sample:
Coulter rips into McCain, going at him for the very mavericky things that got him any attention in the first place and that he turned his back on during the election: "How could we go after Obama for his illegal alien aunt and for supporting driver's licenses for illegal aliens when McCain fanatically pushed amnesty along with his good friend Teddy Kennedy?"
    http://www.rudepundit.blogspot.com/

Funny how these things didn't bother them when he was running.

  17. stateofthedivision Says:

Ah, the usual Republican strategy of skewering whistleblowers. Never mind the core issue at question, candidate competence.

    Savage the leakers.

  18. tombaker Says:

I'm so glad the pilot episode of "Backbiting Righty Cannibals" got picked up for a full-season run.

Set your Tivo's - -it's going to be the biggest, best entertainment event in years!!!

  19. JosephP Says:

William Kristol should not have his contract renewed with the New York Times. This is because he is not an opinion writer---he is a propagandist. There is no original thought or research in any of his columns. Even merely biased opinions would not automatically disqualify him from being considered an opinion writer. Instead, Kristol's columns are vehicles to spread his propaganda, using any and all forms of lies and prevarications.

  20. livelongandprosper Says:

to try to see who was allegedly leaking stuff, negative stuff.”

Bill, the negative stuff wasn't "leaked". It came straight out of the mouths of your candidates.

  21. linda Says:

nah, william the bloodthirsty's movitvation to tamp down the criticism is that it reminds everyone how complicit in those decisions kristol was.

  22. stewarjt Says:

    Just playing with the headline.

"Anonymous McCain Aides Attack Kristol" has a better ring tot it.

  23. tom Says:

Ahhhh, Palinfreude. It's a wonderful feeling!

  24. republicanSScareme Says:

I know we will all remember Bill Kristol as one of the great minds of the Western world.

  25. fletc3her Says:

In other words, they fired him, but rather than make a stink a week before the election, they opted to just go ahead and pay him to keep his mouth shut until after.

  26. Nevar Says:

Verily, in the days following the rout of the McCainanites, the Palinites fled deep into the land of Todd, believing themselves to be safe from the persecution of the Kristolians.
The darkness, yea even the blue smog of the sacred snowmachines hid them not from the blaze of the media's bright torches.

  27. Xisithrus Says:

Politicians are servants and they should be loyal to the constituents and not vice versa

  28. Perry logan Says:

We should enjoy this while we can. The Repubs will soon regain their composure and go back to blaming the Democrats for all of their screw-ups.

  29. Xisithrus Says:

The bodies are piling up under the bus...

  30. CheeseFlap Says:

re: The bodies are piling up under the bus…

The bus is all jacked up with giant wheels, with flaming exhaust pipes. Yee haw!

  31. stateofthedivision Says:

Where will Republicans draw the Clinton-Obama line in the Bush Presidency? Whatever date they pick:

All bad outcomes before this date were Bill Clinton's fault.

After the Clinton-Obama line, Barack bears full responsibility.

The Wall Street McCain hope rally, fell into Obamanation (sounds like abomination) the last two days. Never mind the market went up over 1,000 points on horrific economic news.
