Palin backtracks on call for Stevens to resign.

palinstevensweb2.jpgSoon after a jury convicted Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) on seven felony charges, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) called on Stevens to resign from the U.S. Senate. “Alaskans are grateful for his decades of public service but the time has come for him to step aside,” she said in a statement. But days later, when asked if she would vote for Stevens, Palin refused to answer. Now, Palin is backtracking on whether Stevens should resign:

Asked Wednesday whether she still believed that Mr. Stevens should resign, Ms. Palin was circumspect, saying only that the people of Alaska “just spoke” on the issue at the ballot box and that “they want him as their senator.” She said Mr. Stevens should decide “what happens next.” (Mr. Stevens could still be forced to step down, and Ms. Palin is widely viewed as a potential candidate for his seat if he does.)

No doubt she admires his ability to stuff his pockets, and home, full of goodies.

Mr. Stevens could still be forced to step down, and Ms. Palin is widely viewed as a potential candidate for his seat if he does

So the seat might go from one corrupt, incompetent, inept crony to another corrupt, incompetent, inept crony.

At least you cannot accuse Republicans of being inconsistent.

  3. fletc3her says:

I guess her earlier statement was a lie.

  4. Fred says:

Palen represents all that is wrong with America.

After Americans see how democrats manage our nation they probably won’t even look back at this failure.

  5. JosephP says:

Is Governor Palin busy packing up those clothes to donate to a charity?

This woman is one big liar.

  6. Uncle Fester Lurks says:

And you can bet your bottom dollar that the bimbo from Wasilla voted for the convicted felon Ted Stevens. The talkl that she is a reformer or an outsider is all bull, yeah she may live far away from DC but she knows how the politcal game works in regards to perks and money. She is as corrupt as the rest of them and all of the GOP and media spin in the world cannot hide this fact.

  7. Buckie Boy says:

But Alaskans are mostly Republicans which means they are part of the Mafia, and we know they love their criminals.

  8. stateofthedivision says:

Please let Sarah Palin fade into oblivion.

  9. raynman says:

The difference between Stevens and Palin is that Stevens is the one who’s been convicted…

    so far

  10. Witch1 says:

Who said what about the old felon.? Oh, that one….Isn’t she the crazy that took her party’s money on a shopping spree.?..The cheer leader with no brain’s, that one? Yah! we got it…Just another has been.Yawn!..Blessings

  11. misshusseinmolly says:

Palin knows that Stevens will have to resign or be expelled. She also knows (despite what she says) that Alaskans didn’t check the GOP square to re-elect Stevens, they did it to keep the seat GOP by forcing a special election.

My guess is she’s trying to keep Stevens from looking like a victim of bullying by allowing him to do “the right thing” on his own. It may be a last “thank you” to him for the support he’s given her over the years.

That’s why a lot of us are referring to Sarah as “The One” these days.
    ~Mann Coulter, Nov 6, 2008

Wait a sec — does that mean that wingnuts now see Sarah as “The Messiah”?

I thought that was a dangerous sign?

Indeed, the only good thing about McCain is that he gave us a genuine conservative, Sarah Palin. He’s like one of those insects that lives just long enough to reproduce so that the species can survive. That’s why a lot of us are referring to Sarah as “The One” these days.

    _________

Wow. So even Ann Coulter thinks Sarah Palin is a disgusting cockroach.

maybe the gop will buy her a goatskin coat for when she leads them out of the wilderness.

You know whats so frikking great about Tuesday?
NOW I can laugh my ass off at this idiot.

  16. Xisithrus says:

Both are ethically challenged I am not surprised that Palin has waffled on her convictions of reform.

Could we please stop, now, talking about the odd couple?

  17. lurker says:

Now she is trying to undo the damage she did when running
for VP. Ted has been bringing the pork for a long time
and has many supporters in AK. She has pooped on him
and the people of AK in her divine quest for power.
I wonder what happened to the “maverick reformer” and
corrupt republican slayer that we all came to know and
    loath?

All the flying monkeys who yammered on about Barney Frank should have been thrown out for not knowing what his roommate was doing? Y’all around?

Now that I think of it, where did this ordinary hockey mom and her stay at home husband get $500,000 to build a house on Lake Lucille?

  20. stewarjt says:

It’s a tough choice between the two, but I’ll take the convict over the nitwit.

  21. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

So, do you think that Uncle Ted will forgive her for calling on him to resign? Is he vindictive like Palin is? She may have made a big enemy by doing what the McCain campaign told her to do.

Oh please, don’t run Palin in 2012… we Democrats would have no chance in a Briar Patch, er, campaign like that… hee hee..

I just read through the thread about Bimbo Barbie not knowing about Africa. McPutz, the Rethuglic party, and Faux snooze tried to pull one big F.U. on America with that one.

I was wondering where Coultergeist has been…she’s been remarkably invisible these past months. It doesn’t surprise me at all that she supports Sairhead.

I wonder if Palin could field dress Coulter?

  25. pinget says:

Please please please no Palin in the Senate. I was really looking foward to never seeing or hearing her again.

  26. Lungman424 says:

Here is a first,(and probably a last) I actually agree with the Caribou Bimbo…if the people of Alaska are dumb enough to elect a convicted felon, than that’s their senator. Now I would rather watch the rupugs in the Senate vote against expelling a felon than to watch him step down..

I f you haven’t caught the TP piece from last night ,you owe yourself a look , it is truly unbelievable what Fox news is willing to not report on inorder to keep their masters in in power .

  28. osage says:

The wholly unwarranted Sarah Palin idolatry/rapture is an undeniable indicator of how pathetically desperate today’s Republican religious right is to find someone/anyone they can deify and rally intellectually lacking and issue ignorant idealogues around. Now that she has no one to protect her or prevent her from having to address serious and complex questions from the national press, she will inevitably expose herself as an empty-headed pretender too ignorant, uninformed and superficial to be considered as a serious national political candidate. Frankly, I beleive she’s going to have a tough time dealing with the challenges of being the Alaskan governor let alone being taken seriously as a potential national candidate. Good looks may attract attention, but now she’s going to have to demonstrate under much greater scrutiny whether or not she’s more than a pretty face.

  29. Miles Tougeaux says:

Doesnt she realize she gets to select one of her Wazzila high school friends to replace him?

  30. freeman says:

Does this mean we won’t hear Senator Palin speaking in tongues from the senate floor any time soon ?

  31. A Patriot Acting says:

Seeing how stoopid the Alaskan electorate is I wouldn’t be surprised to see Stevens booted out by Reid, Sarah run for his position and Todd try to take the Governor’s spot. Is it too late to let Alaska secede? Maybe Russia wants it.

Hey Sarah, where are those medical records that you promised?

  32. Buckie Boy says:

    shoeless Says:
Now that I think of it, where did this ordinary hockey mom and her stay at home husband get $500,000 to build a house on Lake Lucille?

They stole the supplies from the Sports Center, Todd said that him and some “Friends” built it in 2 months, oddly enough those friends were the same contractor that built the Sports Center and were the same ones who built Ted Stevens house…and Shara and Todd don’t have any receipts for materials.

She is a criminal and a thief.

  33. paleolib says:

She knows he is toast. She wants his seat and can’t insult the voters stupid as they are. Just another throat cut along the path of the Wasilla hillbilly.

  34. The Dogfather says:

Actually, TPers, as I understand it here’s how Bambi McAirhead gets Teddy-boy’s Senate seat:

    (1) Teddy wins re-election, but is booted from the Senate under the ethics rules for being a convicted felon;

    (2) the Governor of Alaska would appoint Teddy’s replacement;

    (3) since under Alaska law the governor can’t appoint himself or herself directly, Bambi resigns as governor;

    (4) the Alaskan Lt. Gov. assumes the governorship, and appoints Bambi to Teddy-boy’s Senate seat.

    Q.E.D.!!

  35. belac says:

The Governor doesn’t appoint the replacement in Alaska, there will be a special election to replace Sen. Stevens if he is forced to resign.

  36. EnnuiDivine says:

It’s incredibly unlikely that Palin would run in a special election should Stevens get his crooked, 84yr old, pork-barrel, curmudgeonly ass expelled from the Senate. She’s looking towards 2012; exposure in the Senate could only hurt.

Then again, she’s probably not bright enough to understand that and could be looking for the added exposure.

    Hm.
Senator Palin might not be a bad target.

  37. Wayne says:

I am so relieved she will not be the vice-president.

Now it is up to the Alaskan voters to demand she be held accountable for her sleazy job as Governor. Since they are stupid enough to re-elect a convicted felon, I have no high hopes that Alaskans have that much common sense though.

  38. Wayne says:

    belac Says:

The Governor doesn’t appoint the replacement in Alaska, there will be a special election to replace Sen. Stevens if he is forced to resign.

Stevens won’t resign, we already know that, he does not have that much honor in his old corrupt body to do the honorable thing.

The Senate will be forced to vote on expelling him from the Senate.

  39. nigel says:

Much as I wish he had lost the election, he was reelected AFTER his conviction.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I agree with Palin. The Alaskans decided they wanted him. I don’t know if he could be reelected and serve post impeachment but IMO if he was going to be impeached it should have been before the election.( I do appreciate time limitations here). To do so now seems anti democratic to me.
If the people of Alaska want a convicted felon representing them they shouldn’t have that choice removed. If they change their mind let them recall him.

  40. Anacher Forester says:

“I lost? I really didn’t mean it, Uncle Ted. You know how we all tell little white lies in politics. Heck, gosh darn it, I learnt it from you!”

  41. ElBruce says:

Is there anything she doesn’t lie about? At this point she could say “hello” and I wouldn’t believe it.

There oughtta be a government program to help special-needs politicians.

  42. MapleStreet says:

If I were to commit a felony, wouldn’t the republican mantra be “law and order” with calls to bury me under the jail – the longer the sentence the more effective ?

So why does Stevens get a pass ?

On related news – Olberman has a film of Barney the Dog biting a reporter. By the laws of most states, that would brand him a vicious dog and result in a lot of unpleasant circumstances.

What are the odds that Barney will have a muzzle the next time ?

  43. mauro7inf says:

MY GOD. SENATOR SARAH PALIN? Is Alaska STUPID? Seriously, what is wrong with those people? If they’re going to elect a Republican, can’t they pick someone who’s knowledgeable about SOMETHING? Anything? AT ALL? ::sigh:: Someone who’s not corrupt, maybe? Is that too much to ask for, Alaska?

At least in the Senate she doesn’t have any executive power to ruin the state or the country, and she doesn’t actually have to do anything. Can’t she “spend more time with her family”, or at least find a profitable job being corrupt in the private sector?
