MY GOD. SENATOR SARAH PALIN? Is Alaska STUPID? Seriously, what is wrong with those people? If they’re going to elect a Republican, can’t they pick someone who’s knowledgeable about SOMETHING? Anything? AT ALL? ::sigh:: Someone who’s not corrupt, maybe? Is that too much to ask for, Alaska?

At least in the Senate she doesn’t have any executive power to ruin the state or the country, and she doesn’t actually have to do anything. Can’t she “spend more time with her family”, or at least find a profitable job being corrupt in the private sector?

If I were to commit a felony, wouldn’t the republican mantra be “law and order” with calls to bury me under the jail – the longer the sentence the more effective ?

So why does Stevens get a pass ?

On related news – Olberman has a film of Barney the Dog biting a reporter. By the laws of most states, that would brand him a vicious dog and result in a lot of unpleasant circumstances.

What are the odds that Barney will have a muzzle the next time ?

Much as I wish he had lost the election, he was reelected AFTER his conviction.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I agree with Palin. The Alaskans decided they wanted him. I don’t know if he could be reelected and serve post impeachment but IMO if he was going to be impeached it should have been before the election.( I do appreciate time limitations here). To do so now seems anti democratic to me.
If the people of Alaska want a convicted felon representing them they shouldn’t have that choice removed. If they change their mind let them recall him.

Stevens won’t resign, we already know that, he does not have that much honor in his old corrupt body to do the honorable thing.

I am so relieved she will not be the vice-president.

Now it is up to the Alaskan voters to demand she be held accountable for her sleazy job as Governor. Since they are stupid enough to re-elect a convicted felon, I have no high hopes that Alaskans have that much common sense though.

It’s incredibly unlikely that Palin would run in a special election should Stevens get his crooked, 84yr old, pork-barrel, curmudgeonly ass expelled from the Senate. She’s looking towards 2012; exposure in the Senate could only hurt.

Then again, she’s probably not bright enough to understand that and could be looking for the added exposure.

Hm.
Senator Palin might not be a bad target.

Actually, TPers, as I understand it here’s how Bambi McAirhead gets Teddy-boy’s Senate seat:

(1) Teddy wins re-election, but is booted from the Senate under the ethics rules for being a convicted felon;

(2) the Governor of Alaska would appoint Teddy’s replacement;

(3) since under Alaska law the governor can’t appoint himself or herself directly, Bambi resigns as governor;

(4) the Alaskan Lt. Gov. assumes the governorship, and appoints Bambi to Teddy-boy’s Senate seat.

Q.E.D.!!

Seeing how stoopid the Alaskan electorate is I wouldn’t be surprised to see Stevens booted out by Reid, Sarah run for his position and Todd try to take the Governor’s spot. Is it too late to let Alaska secede? Maybe Russia wants it.

The wholly unwarranted Sarah Palin idolatry/rapture is an undeniable indicator of how pathetically desperate today’s Republican religious right is to find someone/anyone they can deify and rally intellectually lacking and issue ignorant idealogues around. Now that she has no one to protect her or prevent her from having to address serious and complex questions from the national press, she will inevitably expose herself as an empty-headed pretender too ignorant, uninformed and superficial to be considered as a serious national political candidate. Frankly, I beleive she’s going to have a tough time dealing with the challenges of being the Alaskan governor let alone being taken seriously as a potential national candidate. Good looks may attract attention, but now she’s going to have to demonstrate under much greater scrutiny whether or not she’s more than a pretty face.

Here is a first,(and probably a last) I actually agree with the Caribou Bimbo…if the people of Alaska are dumb enough to elect a convicted felon,than that’s their senator. Now I would rather watch the rupugs in the Senate vote against expelling a felon than to watch him step down..
