Yesterday evening, James Dobson’s Focus on the Family Action sent out a fundraising e-mail lamenting the victory of Barack Obama. (Dobson had personally endorsed the McCain-Palin ticket.) The author of the e-mail, Focus on the Family Action senior vice president Tom Minnery, told his readers not to despair, saying that the right wing would overcome this situation just as Britons overcame Hitler’s bombing in World War II:
The spirit of Winston Churchill was alive and well on Tuesday night at Focus on the Family Action headquarters.
You may recall that in the most desperate days of World War II – when Great Britain was being pounded daily by Hitler’s Luftwaffe – that Winston Churchill called on his countrymen not to despair from danger but to rise to the challenge. [...]
As our incredible team of staff members watched the election results pour in on Election Night, an amazing thing happened that Churchill might have recognized. Despite some sobering disappointments, there was no mood of despair and no “bunker mentality.”

November 7th, 2008 at 5:34 pmFocus on the Family compares Obama victory to Nazi bombing.»
– - The Right is just scared sh*tless.
(…tenting hands….) Excellent.
November 7th, 2008 at 5:34 pmWow.
November 7th, 2008 at 5:36 pmThey’re such crackpots that they lose any credibility after the first sentence.
This is a disease of the Right called nazitis.
When wingers get stressed, they just start calling everyone a Nazi. It’s a sign of impotent rage and should be pitied.
November 7th, 2008 at 5:36 pmIt never ceases to amaze me the number of hateful people in this world.
November 7th, 2008 at 5:38 pmWhat the hell is Dobby the house moron yapping about now?
November 7th, 2008 at 5:39 pmIf this is what the right wing calls Christianity, I want nothing to do with it. If Christ does return I would not want to be in the shoes of these people. What a bunch of scumbags! It is obvious they know nothing of what they claim to cherish.
November 7th, 2008 at 5:39 pmThe Fool on the Hill, Dobson, is trying to rouse the rightwing evanglical base after having lost so many of them to “Reality”.
They are trying to “scare” up followers after the President-Elect Obama’s landslide election and the reputiation of everything Dobson.
The Fool on the Hill and his sheep are just trying to cover their losing way. Dobson is irrelevant, but still raking in millions selling “Jesus”.
November 7th, 2008 at 5:39 pmSo says the radical cleric James Dobson. That makes it pretty much a lie.
November 7th, 2008 at 5:40 pmThe so-called “Focus on the Family” is the biggest bunch of a**holes, who use Christianity as a front to spew their hatred and fear mongering.
I remember receiving a free book from FOTF in the mail once. The book covered the first 5 to 10 years of a boy’s life, and how to help him avoid the pitfalls. One chapter was titled (I sh*t you not): “Homosexuality and how to cure it”.
I had to laugh. How exactly do you cure someone of their homosexuality? Give them a playboy magazine? Give them a beer? Join the army? WTF??!!
Absolute lunacy is the best way to describe Focus on the Family and its a**hat founder, James Dobson.
November 7th, 2008 at 5:43 pmAs a Coloradoan, I find it so creepy every time I have to drive through Colorado Springs and all the wack-job AssKlowns that live there.
Dobson and all the other faux-Xtions are a scary bunch.
November 7th, 2008 at 5:43 pmHow much longer will it be before these it sinks into these cretins that Rovian scare tactics were neutered on Tuesday night? Personally I hope they keep this crap up for a long time – to eat up their finances if nothing else. However it would be nice to have this same example of lunacy around when Barack is running for re-election in 2012.
November 7th, 2008 at 5:44 pmI guess all that “praying” didn’t work so good.
November 7th, 2008 at 5:44 pmYep, crowds of 100,000 in multiple venue’s scares them silly doesn’t it?
November 7th, 2008 at 5:45 pmWe should all get out our hip-boots. There will be a lot of this over the next several weeks. It is an infantile backlash which everyone should have expected. The Right has learned much from Bush, Cheney, Rove and the fear factor and will use it to the best of their ability. They were unable to win the election by preachng the myth of white enslavement in the church pews of Appalachia, so now they will try this. It is unfortunate that mental mental illness goes hand in hand with mob mentality and progresses geometrically.
November 7th, 2008 at 5:45 pmthen again these idiots compare fertility clinics, which try only to create happy families for those who cant conceive naturally, with concentration camps. i’d say in that regard, Obamas in pretty good company.. Jesus would weep to see how these idiots have twisted and selectively quoted his word to their own twisted, powermongering ends…
give these guys a few decades in the wilderness without an entire political party at their beck and call, and they will start doing the exact same thing thier islamic fundamentalist counterparts do…which is why they should be viewed and dealt with in a similar fashion..
November 7th, 2008 at 5:47 pm“full of sound and fury, signifying nothing…”
Dobson and his ilk are rapidly becoming impotent. These are merely death throes.
In the meantime, we will have a REAL Christian in the White House — not a hateful war-mongering Christofascist masquerading as one. And real Christians are rejoicing (as are Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, and atheists).
November 7th, 2008 at 5:48 pmFascism disguised as religion. These freaks would not be recognized by Jesus were he to return. They are no different than those Jesus had issue with in the Bible and they cannot see it.
November 7th, 2008 at 5:50 pmAh yes! Another counterfeit christian spews more hate to fire up his blind sheople. Hell has a very special place for these false christians.

November 7th, 2008 at 5:53 pmListen guys, just because Barrack won the election doesn’t mean that we have won the war. I can tell you that where I am, these folks are coming out of the woodwork. Where I live, these guys have taken over the House and Senate. They have also sent Inhofe back. Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Wyoming, Alaska are still strongholds of people of this mentality. You can’t imagine what it is like dealing with these folks on a daily basis. I am SOO SICK of these people

November 7th, 2008 at 5:54 pmHas it ever occured to these idiots that Barack Obama becoming our 44th president may have been Gods will? Don’t we always hear from these religious zealots that God has a purpose for all of us? That things happen for a reason? Wouldn’t the same apply for Barack Obama, a christian man?

November 7th, 2008 at 5:57 pmRising gun sales at the prospect of an Obama victory wasn’t enough to stimulate the economy. Jobs disappeared at a record rate according to today’s statistics.
How many of those new automatic weapon owners got James Dobson’s fundraiser, raising the specter of a war beleagured country? And how might they react to a Hitlerian threat?
Also, it’s hard to tap into the “We shall overcome” of the civil rights era. That just helps Obama.
November 7th, 2008 at 5:57 pmApparently James Dobson didn’t get my fundraising mailer.
November 7th, 2008 at 6:02 pmAccording to Thomm Hartman of Air America, Mitt Romney’s former campaign staffers who since have joined the McCain/Palin campaign are the people behind the (much relished) Sarah Palin bashing.
It seems the Moron Church…Mormon Church is trying to position itself favorably with the reichwing Evangelical base (Pat Roberson, Reverend Hagee) behind the scenes and to destroy Palin politically to set Mitt Romney up as the top republican presidential candidate in 2012.
It is fun to watch the GOP at each others throats!!!!!!!
November 7th, 2008 at 6:03 pmYes, clearly this man is a monster.
November 7th, 2008 at 6:04 pmSurely charges can be laid for this sort of hatred. There’s freedom of speech, and then there’s spreading hate to 1000s of people. The latter should never be tolerated. Jesus, I’m sure, is watching Dobson & Focus, and finding them un-Christian and filled with hate. And as others have said, Dobson & his “family” are as close to Hitler as anything around these days. But he/they will never recognize those similarities, they’re too blinded by their bigotry & hatred.
November 7th, 2008 at 6:05 pmJeebus, I knew the ugliness would float to the surface, but I had no idea how truly nasty it would be. Wow.

November 7th, 2008 at 6:09 pmZooey, check out the articles at Alex Jones web site “Infowars.com” and read the comments. These people are delusional nuts!
It seems now that the Bushites and the neocons will soon be out of power, Alex needs to plant new seeds of fear into the minds of his ignorant followers so that he can sell more DVD’s.
November 7th, 2008 at 6:09 pmregarding the criticism of americorps: i thought conservatives cherished patriotic service to one’s country?
obama’s idea to get our youth interested in our country, and encourage people to dedicate some small portion of their lives to it, is precisely what any good conservative would want.
the more i think about obama, the more i truly admire him. he is hard not to like. sure, he has made some truly anti-progressive moves, but not many. and those moves were designed to gather support for his ascending political career.

AmeriCorps
That’s what I was wondering, because a friend of my son’s served with AmeriCorps and I’m pretty sure that Obama is not quite in a position to create programs and throw them into the time machine.
And it’s exactly the sort of program that “conservatives” always claim to favor. These are the same morons that FDR had to battle with to create the New Deal.
November 7th, 2008 at 6:14 pmanother thought: republicans loathe obama for not wearing a flag lapel pin, and yet criticize him for encouraging people to love their country in the form of volunteer service.
so, to get it straight: republicans tried to force obama to wear a lapel pin, but complain about being forced to be patriotic in the form of volunteer service.
blatant hypocrisy.

Again according to Hartman, 78% of the out of state financing of California’s Prop 8 which banned gay marriage came from the Mormons. This is seen as them trying to redeem themselves in the eyes of the Evagelicals.
Actually Lurker this is not that far fetched when you think about it. The rightwing Evangelicals and the rightwing Catholics put their differences on abortion aside to join forces.

November 7th, 2008 at 6:41 pmAbsolutely mind boggling. A decent, truly compassionate, consensus builder who will unite this nation gets elected and thes morons take to the bunkers! A Statesman who wants to move foreward and heal the divisions, restore the Rule of Law and salvage this nation’s reputation as the Truly Great Country it is, is now the President Elect, and that makes them buy guns and get ready to put up the barricades. Un-be-lievable. This is proof that God loves stupid people, ’cause he made so many of them. Either that or proof that those whom the Lord would destroy, He first makes mad.

I think it’s time I sent those pseudo-bible thumpers some interesting facts about that King James Bible that they love to misuse–like the fact that it was commissioned by a known homosexual who had a lover named Steenie who he (King James of England)openly kissed on the mouth in public, that he dabbled in the “black arts”, liked to tromp in the entrails of the animals he killed until the blood ran down his legs and crusted his garments, that he NEVER washed his hands so they were like black satin, that a prominent Jew was enlisted to help them translate it to English, etc.
I can just hear their heads explode now. There’s a reason the Mormons and the JoHos don’t come to my house anymore. I think I have a new hobby…

November 7th, 2008 at 9:36 pmAnd they said Jeremiah Wright’s words were extreme.
November 7th, 2008 at 9:36 pmFTF is obviously an extremist far-right organization, having little to do with any rational interpretation of scripture, or national government. Mr. Minnery,Mr. Dobson, the bible does have many tips on wilderness wandering. Use them well.
November 7th, 2008 at 9:43 pmHeeheeehee…Just fired off an email round to a nut on youtube that is expounding the “righteous” lunacies of J.D’s FFA. I can hear his fat little head popping from here. I am such a “stinker”.

November 7th, 2008 at 10:26 pmTo channel my inner Sigmund for a minute here, all the neocons projections of Nazi’s, Communists, etc. to Democrats is sure telling considering groups like Focus on the Family say their “true” leader is an invisible deity in the sky whom has blessed them with laws and virtues that are based on pure faith, not fact.
And they can not deviate from those time honored laws and virtues handed down by God, but they sure can amend them on how the flow of money changes hands or when the flock strays. You can’t be gay outside the church, but if you pray the gay away…WELCOME HOME!!!
November 7th, 2008 at 10:35 pmMapleStreet Says:

Congress needs to follow up on the promise to put those tax evading leaders of the mega churches behind bars. James Dobson needs 2-4 years along with Peter Popoff, Don Stewart and friends to find God. Or give the IRS the same amount of time to empty their vast collection plates built on the vow of fraud and crap biblical products.
November 7th, 2008 at 10:46 pmMaybe there should be some progressive or moderate “family” groups to draw the support of these organizations away. They’re not going to go away as long as they’re the only “family” game in town. Like it or not, “family” people constitute a significant special interest.
People who are concerned with family issues or family values should have more options than rabid wingnuts who are going to exploit their vote.

November 8th, 2008 at 12:09 amSo James, just what kind of focus do you have on America’s families? Could it be the families that are losing their homes through foreclosure? Or maybe the families that are doing without more and more because the father or mother or both are out of work? What about the families that can’t afford health care for their children.
I know James. Its because you don’t give a shit! Unless someone pays you and bows down to your will you just don’t care at all because you are nothing more than a self-righteous, selfish, cold-hearted bastard! You and people like you are the problem and you’ll never be part of the solution.
November 8th, 2008 at 12:21 amThe stupid thing is, the better Obama makes the country, the more angry they will become.
To these people they don’t care if it’s right for the people or not, they just want to make sure its the conservative way.
November 8th, 2008 at 12:23 amWhat Mr. Minnery needs to know is that Americans fear James Dobson’s Focus on the Family Action more than they do Barack Obama.

I thought these churches have a tax exempt to operate as religious entities and not political ones.
These big churches leaders act, behave, and talk like politicians these days.
If they want to be politicians, then they should register as politicians, because they are now using their churches and God to interfere, manipulate and play roles of political parties.
Why should they get tax exempt for becoming politicians using God as means to influence voters?

November 8th, 2008 at 9:36 amFirst of all James Dobson is an azzhole who runs around claiming to be a chirstian, but he’s more closely aligned with Satan. He’s an abomination who uses religion to control weak minded people and turn them into hating racist idiots if they aren’t already. There is a special place reserved for Dr. Dobson in hell right next to Hitler and Sadam Hussein and all of the other evil men who mislead and murdered people for sport. Only an evil man like Dobson would try to turn people against their own President regardless of party. So I say Fock you James Dobson you racist low down no good dog face idiot.
