Yesterday, President-elect Barack Obama gave his first press conference since being elected, discussing his plan to move forward on the economy and other issues. In a poll out today, Rasmussen Reports found that a majority of Americans liked the tone Obama set during the presser:
Over half of U.S. voters (54%) say they followed Very Closely news stories about Barack Obama’s first press conference as president-elect yesterday, and nearly as many (52%) say he set the right tone in his remarks.
Another 26% say they followed news of Obama’s Chicago press conference somewhat closely, and just six percent (6%) say they did not follow news of it at all, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey taken Friday night.
Twenty-eight percent (28%) do not think Obama set the right tone in his remarks. One-out-of-five (20%) are not sure.
The poll also found that “over half of voters (52%) expect President Obama to do a better job on the economy than President Bush.”
Within the error of the poll, that is the percent of voters who opted for Obama.
November 8th, 2008 at 3:37 pmI saw it, I liked it, and I liked the shot at Nancy. I laughed out loud in my office. I also thought his comment about himself being a mutt was humbling.
From now on we need to seperate the Conservatives from the Republican, who should now be called the Religulats. They are the Rightwing nuttery, that wil put Palin up for Pres in 2012. I wonder if by then the Conservative party will eventually realize they have been had by these Religulats, and they will undermine ANYTHING in their endtimes cause.
Poor Goldwater Conservatives, he would NEVER support Proposition 8, and letting government get under the sheets. Are the Religulats kidding me. It was a Utah based rightwing program.
November 8th, 2008 at 3:43 pmPoll: Majority of Americans liked Obama’s first presser as President-elect.»
– - Oh, so the first date went OK.
November 8th, 2008 at 3:43 pmIt was nice to hear someone speaking clearly and intelligently. I’m looking forward to more news conferences.
November 8th, 2008 at 3:45 pmIf you were not near to brain dead (no offense to any families) then you could do a better job than Bush when it comes to the economy. And you would know better than to put your nose in the bedrooms and churches of America. Aw, hell, you’d know a whole lot more than our current lame-duck just by default.
November 8th, 2008 at 3:57 pmAnd 30 percent of Americans use the Fixed News Channel as their primary source of information. I wonder if these there might be a correlation here? (duh).
November 8th, 2008 at 3:57 pmWow we now have an educated President who shows respect and one we can be proud of. I liked the way Obama put Bush and Republicans in a corner to either help the American people or he will sign his bills on Jan. 20th to help Americans. He also did good by explaining to those who look for help now that it is Bush who is still in charge. If Republicans don’t support Obama now they will not be re elected next time.
November 8th, 2008 at 4:01 pm28% of those polled do not think Obama set the right tone.
28% is roughly the percentage of people who think Bush is doing a good job.
“…you can fool some of the people all of the time…” I’m guessing that “some” would be about 28%.
November 8th, 2008 at 4:03 pmWe need to get those 28% some therapy for their issues.
November 8th, 2008 at 4:06 pmObama’s speech, much like his campaign, was lacking in specifics. More like hoping things work out. He seemed more involved with the section of a new puppy.

November 8th, 2008 at 4:11 pmI like his think tank selections. I have seen the group and it’s impressive for the talents they bring with them, though not all are to everyone’s satisfaction, which is the point. I think he is feeling out all the viewpoints and making sure he listens to every one that he can. He knows the media is gonna put him under the microscope and he won’t screw up if he can help it. After all, he wouldn’t want to be the first black president AND a failure because he doesn’t have the luxury of fading into the background of presidential failures like Bush blends in with Nixon, Bush Sr., etc.

I should have high-lighted it the first time for arco’s sake.
November 8th, 2008 at 4:18 pmHe was “lacking in specifics” because he’s not president yet and didn’t want to overstep his boundries by dictating policies to the current administration.
It’s called respect for the current president. I’d think you who support Bush would appreciate this as opposed to harping on him for not saying enough.
Perhaps he should just take over in a coup? Would that make you happy?
November 8th, 2008 at 4:20 pmSo now that Obama is President, is the need for Affirmative Action over? A black man gets the top job in the United States. I should think Jesse Jackson is out of job now.

But no specifics. The next four years are going to be very uncomfortable for you, my friend. And I will enjoy every moment of your discomfort, and pain. You righties have it coming — and the crow’s always served hot, here at the TP Diner.
November 8th, 2008 at 4:24 pmAs if 2 years of polls wasn’t enough? what’s next, Obama on “Rate My Poo”?

There’s still affirmative action — in Iraq.
We must help those poor oppressed Iraqis, and shower them with reconstruction gifts.
Now that’s affirmative action, my friend.

And all Americans. But it will be good for India and Asian countries. That seems to be where the free market jobs are going as socialism expands here in the US.
November 8th, 2008 at 4:31 pmThis has been running through my head ever since Obama won and I think it has it summed up pretty well. Perhaps you will recognize it–
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way

November 8th, 2008 at 4:35 pmI am so bored with this socialism bullshit. The inherent greed of US society will always offset any baby steps toward a more egalitarian society.

November 8th, 2008 at 4:38 pmThe economy went bad in 2007, shortly after Pelosi and Reid took over Congress. Look it up.
The Federal Reserve controls the economic cycle. Congress controls spending. The President of the US has minimal impact on the economy. As D’oh-bama said yesterday, he has to work with Congress to get a stimulus bill passed when he takes over. And will Pelosi and Reid bow down to D’oh-bama?
November 8th, 2008 at 4:39 pmI don’t know, barfly. He’s hardly worth the effort, but I’m so out of practice that I think I’ll take a few whacks just to keep my stroke sharp.

Over $700B in bailout money with no strings attached, that banks are hoarding and using to buy other banks rather than extend credit to a market that needs money.
Second, Congress refuses to act on energy. That’s the #1 issue facing America in the future. What do you think you’ll be plugging those future cars into? Unless we build nuclear power, there won’t be enough power. Congress also refuses to act on alternative energy (wind and solar) that is sitting idle in the southwest and in Texas because there are no transmission lines.
If Congress had acted on energy, you wouldn’t have paid $4 a gallon back in the summer. Only a global recession has gas prices down now. Wait until demand increase, as Congress does nothing again year after year.
Wait until you see your home energy bills in the future as Congress does nothing year after year. Expect those bills to triple very shortly.

November 8th, 2008 at 4:55 pmIt’s just a consequence of their utter inability to generate any empathy for others.
Maybe that’s why John Kyl is so suspicious of empathy:
Jon Kyl, the second-ranking Republican in the U.S. Senate, warned president-elect Barack Obama that he would filibuster U.S. Supreme Court appointments if those nominees were too liberal.
Kyl, Arizona’s junior senator, expects Obama to appoint judges in the mold of U.S Supreme Court Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, David Souter and Stephen Breyer. Those justices take a liberal view on cases related to social, law and order and business issues, Kyl said.
“He believes in justices that have empathy,” said Kyl, speaking at a Federalist Society meeting in Phoenix.

Actualy, this prolly isn’t even close to the real answer. The weakening of the dollar against other world currencies was definitely part of the price increase. November 8th, 2008 at 7:03 pmMaybe we can get some grant funds to research the troll genome… How hard could it be and the applications are so limitless.
I’m just in for a few minutes and would like to sign on to that study, dbadass. Some of the simplest creatures have the most complex genomes. Fascinating stuff.
I think that we can probably start with the assumption that the stupid trolls are full of autonomic systems that take the place of human intellect. I bet they can climb the heck out of trees too.
November 8th, 2008 at 7:33 pmI have a question for our idiot troll, if he can answer it.
What is wrong with socialism? There are many socialist countries on this earth and as far as I can see they are all peaceful, prosperous and happy countries. They take care of their citizens because they respect them and feel that the citizens of the country are a country’s greatest asset. They consider things like health care a right and not a privilege.
So, idiot troll, please tell us what is wrong with socialism (if you even know what it is).
November 8th, 2008 at 7:34 pmOf course. The fat ones probably gear their skills more towards burrowing and camouflaging themselves with litter. But I hear that they are attracted to talking windup dolls.
November 8th, 2008 at 7:35 pmI have to give you guys props. You handled that and didn’t leave any troll poop lying around after. I don’t think you were too tough it’s just that GOOPers are so weak.
November 8th, 2008 at 7:45 pmMy question is what’s wrong with paying taxes. When you pay taxes for services they’re deductible from your income. When you pay outright for services like garbage, sewers, etc. they’re not.

I’m not sure how TP feels about linking to uncensored sights, no porn I swear, so I’ll just recommend that you check out FSTDT. Between the Fundies and the Freepers it’s pretty disturbing.
But, I figure that the worst of them will turn on each other when they can’t find any of the imaginary “communists” they fear so much. And most will sit in the basement and argue, on line, about who’s radical enough to attract the most insane people. It’s going to be fun if no one gets hurt.

An Obama Tilt in Campaign Coverage
By Deborah Howell, Ombudsman
Sunday, November 9, 2008; Page B06
The Post provided a lot of good campaign coverage, but readers have been consistently critical of the lack of probing issues coverage and what they saw as a tilt toward Democrat Barack Obama. My surveys, which ended on Election Day, show that they are right on both counts.
My assistant, Jean Hwang, and I have been examining Post coverage since Nov. 11 last year on issues, voters, fundraising, the candidates’ backgrounds and horse-race stories on tactics, strategy and consultants. We also have looked at photos and Page 1 stories since Obama captured the nomination June 4. Numbers don’t tell you everything, but they give you a sense of The Post’s priorities.
[...]
ad_icon
The op-ed page ran far more laudatory opinion pieces on Obama, 32, than on Sen. John McCain, 13. There were far more negative pieces (58) about McCain than there were about Obama (32), and Obama got the editorial board’s endorsement. The Post has several conservative columnists, but not all were gung-ho about McCain.

could it indicate that one candidate was BETTER than the other?

November 8th, 2008 at 11:09 pmOh, poo, did you guys chase off Lushie? Just when I was in the mood for a troll snack.
So Lushie, still around to play the game?
Let’s start with health care, since I just got back from the ER after taking my asthmatic spouse in for another bad spell. He delayed going in because of a lack of coverage. So if he had died this time, would you have been there to console my kids?
Item One: Obama will improve the health care system, something that the current president never dirtied his poor piggies with NOR did the Repug Congress, and which the slim majority of Dems controlling Congress since the fall of 2006 were unable to get by without veto or filibuster.
Next, you have a job and a 401K still. Good for you, since the rate of unemployment caused by the spiraling inflation and encouragement of jobs to move overseas with outsourcing has reached a high not seen since the Depression.
Item Two: Obama pledges to fix our broken economic system and infrastructure, create a better green economy by increasing growth in solar, wind and water technology AND to eliminate the tax breaks and loopholes given by Bushco for those who did the outsourcing and penalize them with higher taxes for doing so while encouraging them with tax breaks to hire more workers from the USA.
Obviously you have received tax breaks and stimulus from the current administration, since you seem to be above the $250,000 level
Item Three: You will pay a FAIRER share of taxes under Obama’s plan, to be increased only by the small percentage over the $250,000 on your personal or business income. Why should the working poor have to schlep the load for you? Talk about being a welfare queen, look in the mirror.
Post back and I will give you many more reasons to go smash your thick little noggin against a brick wall. I can go on for a long time and I am just warming up.
November 8th, 2008 at 11:09 pmit’s scary how delusional the bots are… making “jokes” about a most serious situation, all the time without a hint of comprehension of the reality…

November 8th, 2008 at 11:19 pmthe next evening, i got an email from the ditto-head in-law –
another clever use of color, type size and style, that he somehow things makes the message more profound… he wrote:
I know you have been very emotionally involved in this election. This is just a little humor relief from a Republican who still loves you.
the attachment read:
O (in huge 120pt times font, white on black background panel)
sh!t (very very teeny tiny, underneath it)
the “love” note didn’t work and i’d had it with the degradation -
my reply:
I can tell by that “humor” that you are not going to help. That means YOU are a “monster” too…
Last night wasn’t just a victory for tolerance; it wasn’t just a mandate for progressive change; it was also, I hope, the end of the monster years.
What I mean by that is that for the past 14 years America’s political life has been largely dominated by, well, monsters. Monsters like Tom DeLay, who suggested that the shootings at Columbine happened because schools teach students the theory of evolution. Monsters like Karl Rove, who declared that liberals wanted to offer “therapy and understanding” to terrorists. Monsters like Dick Cheney, who saw 9/11 as an opportunity to start torturing people.
And in our national discourse, we pretended that these monsters were reasonable, respectable people. To point out that the monsters were, in fact, monsters, was “shrill.”
Four years ago it seemed as if the monsters would dominate American politics for a long time to come. But for now, at least, they’ve been banished to the wilderness.

November 8th, 2008 at 11:42 pmGood grief, arco, try a bit harder to allow Omama, the PRES- elect, the opportunity to succeed. What specifics do you want when the petulant Bush is still the deciderer? Any Obama specifics are inappropriate and would be criticisms of Bush’s disastrous two terms so why go there. And what section of a puppy is best?
November 8th, 2008 at 11:46 pmkaty, no, you were no harsher than my child when she threatened to stick a fork in her uncle (unfortunately my older brother) for the racial remarks he made at a family dinner. November 8th, 2008 at 11:47 pmTo “freeman”, and any other doubting-thomas:
A book titled “Change for America,” being published next week by the Center for American Progress, an influential liberal think tank, will recommend, for example, that Obama rapidly create a National Energy Council to coordinate all policymaking related to global climate change.
The center’s influence with Obama is substantial: It was created by former Clinton White House official John D. Podesta, a co-chairman of the transition effort, and much of its staff has been swept into planning for Obama’s first 100 days in office.
I’m pretty sure Obama has his liberal agenda being well cared for, thanks for the “concern”.
November 8th, 2008 at 11:58 pmI don’t like the government giving my hard earned tax dollars to other nations to start wars or to keep an opposing country in “check.” But it happens.

November 9th, 2008 at 4:33 amFrom Frank Rich….
For eight years, we’ve been told by those in power that we are small, bigoted and stupid — easily divided and easily frightened. This was the toxic catechism of Bush-Rove politics. It was the soiled banner picked up by the sad McCain campaign, and it was often abetted by an amen corner in the dominant news media.
So let’s be blunt. Almost every assumption about America that was taken as a given by our political culture on Tuesday morning was proved wrong by Tuesday night.

US combat troops in Iraq battle to defend savings
US Lieutenant Colonel Mark Grabski has been busy on the computer over the past few weeks — not to follow the history-making presidential election but to check on his dwindling savings.
“I had a list of icons, my favourites, the funds that are working with Thrift savings programme. Every single day, their rates were just collapsing,” said the officer posted at Camp Speicher, north of the Iraqi capital.
“Virtually, I’ve lost right now tens of thousand of dollars,” said the 31-year-old who is in charge of criminal inspections of the base.
Grabski said a third of his salary goes into Thrift, an additional pension scheme for US civil servants and soldiers. “I’ve lost 30 percent of my savings in this programme due to the financial crisis.”
Army pensions are meant to pay out 50 percent of the salary of soldiers with 20 years of service and 75 percent for 30 years, but many rely on the Thrift programme to further secure their retirement.
Camp Speicher has been abuzz with the latest grim statistics of the crisis, often overshadowing the election campaign which resulted in Barack Obama’s triumph as America’s first black president-elect.
The crisis back home has dealt a cruel blow to combat troops who have had to endure dangerous patrols and firefights in the dusty alleys of Tikrit, former hometown of executed dictator Saddam Hussein.
The impact of the financial crisis on the savings and pensions of US troops in Iraq is difficult to estimate. But it has spared neither the young recruits nor the veterans nearing retirement.
“We’ve been encouraging young recruits to invest their money in that (Thrift) programme. When you arrive in Kuwait, before coming to Iraq, it is actually one of the first papers you are given,” said Grabski.
For Major Daniel Meyers, who works with the US military’s central command for northern Iraq, the losses have been limited to about 3,100 dollars.
“I’ve been only investing eight percent of my salary but it is still money for me,” he said, referring to his pay of around 5,000 dollars a month for serving in Iraq, compared to about 2,000 for an ordinary soldier.

Like I said, when the drunken state wears off, we will see Payback time, and these New Neocons have the potential to invoke the wishes of Likud Party, Surveillance, Perpetual War, and Wall Street the same as Bush. The difference is Obama is painted as the Second Coming, whereas Bush was likened to the Anti-Christ.
Have no fear, there are still some Real Progressives and even Eisenhower Conservatives that are keeping a very careful watch on Obama, and like Bush, will not let him get away with similar tactics to Bush, except now with a Smiling Face instead of snarling. What i want to know is, will Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul be offered any positions in this new Likud…….er…….Democratic Administration. Give us strong reasons why we should ignore the past treatment we have received. Political reasons, not “play nice” rhetoric. And explain how this won’t be turned against us, as being wimpy.

Now you do know that equation about Power and Absoluteness?
Rove is/was a prick beyond description. Rahm is a dual citizen who supports Israeli terrorists, including his own father. He voted for war with Iraq. He thinks all Palestinians should be killed. He was the largest corporate lobbyist. You think Nancy Pelosi was/is bad?
Add to the mix, Joe “I am a Zionist” Biden, you have a potential to be far more dangerous than Karl Rove and company. These Leftist Neocons have one thing going for them that the Righty Neocons didn’t………Intelligence.

Norwegian society
Norwegian values are rooted in egalitarian ideals. At the beginning of the 20th century, we began enacting fairly radical welfare laws, culminating in the post-war years’ sweeping reforms that turned Norway into the progressive welfare state it is today. The welfare state is still the ideal for most Norwegians, not least because it seems to be doing quite well.
Norway undoubtedly has one of the best welfare systems in the world, making sure that people who are sick and unable to work, or who are unemployed for whatever reason are not left out in the cold, but are given support so that they are able to live with dignity. this, coupled with a strong public education system and public health care system, has lead to a society in which it is easier to bounce back from a bad start in life, or a bad year.
We like to think that it is these ideals, and not just our monetary wealth, that has made the United Nations consistently rank Norway as the best country in which to live in recent years.

Right on fred, and in case ya’ll didn’t know, look who’s heading Obama’s first 100 day agenda!!!
Obama reviewing Bush orders on stem cell research and drilling, Podesta says
Associated Press
WASHINGTON — President-elect Obama’s transition chief said Sunday the incoming administration is reviewing President Bush’s executive orders on stem cell research, oil and gas drilling and other matters.
John Podesta said the president can use such orders to move quickly without waiting for Congress to act, highlighting the extraordinary powers a president can wield beyond signing legislation approved by Congress. Podesta said people should expect Obama to use those powers to reverse many policies of the Bush administration.
“I think across the board, on stem cell research, on a number of areas, you see the Bush administration even today moving aggressively to do things that I think are probably not in the interest of the country,” Podesta said in a broadcast interview.
“There’s a lot that the president can do using his executive authority without waiting for congressional action, and I think we’ll see the president do that,” Podesta said.

The one thing I liked about his first news conference was that he called on all the major MSM except for Faux Noise.
I hadn’t even noticed that. My bad. Wouldn’t it be sweet if that becomes a regular thing at his press conferences? Billo the clown will be doing the thorazine shuffle by Easter :)~

November 9th, 2008 at 12:12 pm…um, how the fcuk do conservatives argue for less government in light of HUNDREDS of executive orders under Bush which did nothing if not INCREASE the size of government?
And with the compounded effect of lowering taxes AND building a bigger government, we end up BORROWING from our “enemies”???
This is how Republicans view good “stewardship” of our Nations best interests?????????????
November 9th, 2008 at 12:15 pmbarfly Says:
You’re sounding just like the drunken, crazy conservative lady I met in the bar, the night of the election.
And you sound like a doped up guy I met at the bus stop one day, and he said he is voting for Obama because he is black.
So when you also wake out of your Narcotic Stupor after 8 years of Fear and Hatred, let me know, I will still be as critical as I was with Bush.
By your definition, being Progressive means for war, surveillance, Israel, and Wall Street.
Do you even comprehend what you are saying? Do you realize that you have had your core values compromised and neutered? Don’t we dare question Jews and Blacks or we will labeled as Anti-Semites or Racists.
November 9th, 2008 at 12:16 pmi like what randi said about rahm the other day:
“nasty when he

poetry!
November 9th, 2008 at 12:24 pmYou know, I’ve been really civil with you brain and the above is the way you treat those of us who disagree with you.
You provide only speculation, fear and it seems hatred. You are so 2007 republican in your approach.
November 9th, 2008 at 12:32 pmkaty Says:
maybe i was too harsh…
I vote for not harsh enough :)~
November 9th, 2008 at 12:34 pmthe Lone Voice of Reason Says:
katy, no, you were no harsher than my child when she threatened to stick a fork in her uncle (unfortunately my older brother) for the racial remarks he made at a family dinner. Damn funny when my itty bitty grandma told him to STFU and go in the other room to sit at the kiddie table.
That is fantastic. Kudos to your daughter, and grandma too :)

You know, I’ve been really civil with you brain and the above is the way you treat those of us who disagree with you.
Fred you are a lousy example of what a Progressive is. What are your fellow Obamatrons saying to the few people who still can think outside of programmed reality?
When I was ripping Dubya, everyone loved it. Posting facts, positing logical opinions, and generally being Sarcastic on the Bushies.
Now, when the shoe is on the other foot, you all turn into the same brainless mob with pitchforks and burning torches, similar to the Righties.
November 9th, 2008 at 12:44 pmBrain From Planet Arous Says:
Brain, it’s been really good talking to you. I love the civil discussions you always offer. I love ya man.
When you start calling us
lousy examples of progressives
Obamatrons
accusing of of living in a programmed reality
etc.
you cross the line of civil discourse and present yourself as the all knowing dissenter when in fact you are just speculating.
You are entitled to your opinion and I encourage you to post it. Just stop acting like you know something that the rest of us don’t know. We are not LIV’s
Oh and if you want to be treated with respect…..try treating others with a little respect, that works with kids.
November 9th, 2008 at 12:58 pmBy your definition, being Progressive means for war, surveillance, Israel, and Wall Street.
Do you even comprehend what you are saying? Do you realize that you have had your core values compromised and neutered? Don’t we dare question Jews and Blacks or we will labeled as Anti-Semites or Racists.
I don’t think I offered a definition for anything, Bunky.
It seems you’re the one who isn’t comprehending what I’m saying, and instead offering a badly-constructed strawman of me, that you can knock down, like the bully you are.
I said take it one day at a time. Don’t condemn out of hand, without fully comprehending what you’re attacking.
Yes, Emanuel’s known for hard-ball politics, and has a few unsavory connections – but I’m willing to give Obama the benefit of the doubt, on his judgement in this matter. Obama’s going into a political arena, that will attempt to Clintonize him at every opportunity. The media don’t want him as president, because he has, and will, shatter all their preciously guarded shibboleths about race, the country’s current ideological slant, economic theory regarding tax cuts, and a whole host of others. That he might feel the need to employ a bastard, to deal with the bastards he will encounter, seems logical. I withhold judgement for the first six months; you’re judging him, and he hasn’t even taken office yet!
November 9th, 2008 at 1:05 pmI mean, Emanuel might not even be on the team in January, so lighten up, already.
November 9th, 2008 at 1:07 pmBarfly, two questions:
1) What is your definition of “Progressive”
2) Are the following stances Progressive or Cro-Magnon?
a – Pro-War
b – Pro Wall Street
c – Anti Gay Marriage
d – Pro Surveillance
e – Pro Drilling
of course in six months, Obama might surprise me.
But…..When Bush was at 91% approval in October 2001, I was saying he will be exposed for what he is…a fraud. I have the same reservations now as I had then. Of course, this is subjective, except for my opinions from 2000 on, which are still posted at various sites and blogs.
So, if you don’t mind, I will say if a person in the Obama administration is for the people or for corporations.
Thank you Thinkprogress for not banning me like FreeRepublic has.
November 9th, 2008 at 1:18 pmBrain From Planet Arous Says:
You don’t get to define progressives brain. You’re just one person with an opinion, that’s all. I will just take one of your items to show you.
pro-drilling: We have been handed an energy crisis situation where we must get away from oil asap. We must maintain our economy while seriously moving in that direction. What progressive would not be for drilling reasonably and sensibly under those circumstances.
You see everything as black or white brain. You have a childs mind.
You automatically asign Obama to the corporatacracy. The problem with your message is that it imply’s that all business is bad.
Sorry, I belive in successful businesses in America, I just don’t believe they should not pay thier share of the cost of running the country nor should they be allowed to have huge monopolies such as the oil industry has on us right now.
November 9th, 2008 at 1:31 pmGlad to see some posts here with real substance ! I HOPE that we can focus on the real issues like the posts have since I left .Dissent is not a bad thing and I do appreciate the Emmanuel may not turn out to be the ” Decider “.
November 9th, 2008 at 1:39 pmBut I believe it is important that the democrats know that we are watching them .
It is to me a great worry that Mr. Emmanuel thinks like a neo con in terms of foreign policy . He may well serve Obama well in his first hundred days with his reputation as a hard ball operator by keeping the democrats in line in the removal of the horrendous laws that have been passed under Bush , time will tell.
Fred I do remember that you told me that after the election if the dem’s won we would go about the business of pushing them toward the restitution of the constitution and ending the war the war . Please understand that many of the posters here are left of the majority of the democratic party such as brain and myself .Lets work together to do what Obama asked from us while running his campaign , Keep him honest .
November 9th, 2008 at 1:43 pmEmmanuel may well turn out to be a valuble asset , we will have to wait and see .
November 9th, 2008 at 1:47 pmHe may also turn out to be the watch dog for AIPAC at the presidents door . In either case let the OBAMA administration be aware that we are not asleep and are paying VERY CLOSE ATTENTION !

No MORON be you and the lure of trainwrecks lures me in the same way. Pathalogical stupidity is appealing in exactly the same way. You drink deeply from the well of stupid and I find it astonishing that anyone would be so clueless as to be proud of their idiocy
November 9th, 2008 at 2:04 pmBrain Obama isnt as progressive as I would like to see. His FISA vote, is just one example. He IS however as progressive as we could hope for at this time. He is actually pretty progressive. I would LOVE to have seen Dennis Kucinich be president but that would be an alternate reality. Baby steps. Dont let the perfect be the enemy of the good. We should keep Obama honest but lets give him a chance and let him actually screw up before we jump all over him. IF Obama does well that will be GOOD for progressives. IF he does well enough then maybe a couple of elections down the road the people WILL look at a Dennis Kucinich type liberal maybe a Sherrod Brown or a Russ Fiengold. Helping to hurt an Obama will NOT help bring that about
November 9th, 2008 at 2:29 pmI’ll give Obama 100 points for NOT being McCain. How miserable it would be to have him as president elect right now.
Obama is intelligent and thoughtful. I, for one, feel like writing statesmen again. I’d like to recommend Dennis Kucinich for the State Department. The people of the world would be in love. Crank up the Department of Peace. Appoint actual diplomats to key positions as Ambassadors—not cronies, children of cronies, or Salvador Option types.
I’m happy as a clam with the potential for an administration that is reasonable and not showing any sociopathic tendencies. The bar has been so low that that’s a BIG step, and one absolutely necessary to the restoration of national sanity and social/economic justice.
